Demons/Storm
Don't know how it looks at higher levels. I started to play a Demon/Storm a few Days ago. And up to know (lvl31) i found it more fun to play and easier lvling than with my Demons/Fire.
I am at lvl 37 with my Demon / Storm and I really have enjoyed the storm secondary. Keep in mind that this is my first stormy so it may have less value for you. I have 50 MMs with /traps /dark and /FF. Traps just has a special place in my heart but they really all have been fun.
I will add that /FF is similiar to your point on the buffing. While in the mix to 50 it wasn't that bad - but I will say that when I got to 50 I was glad to shelve the toon and move on. If you haven't played traps or dark those would be mu suggestions.
Murph
Murph's 50s:
H: Tank, Cont, Def, Scrapper, Blaster, Bane
V: MM x5, Corr x2, Stalker, Dom, Fort
That sounds like a really tight build since all the storm guides i've seen usually say to take everything but thunder clap. Did you skip the DS attacks, or just accept that it's tight but worth it?
Also if I can get it to work I think ds/storm will be one of my first rolls when GR goes live, and I'd love it if someone could toss up a sample build that could get me going in the right direction
I'd have the same problem with /dark - everything but Blackhole is worth taking.
For /storm I take everything but Thunderclap (except for my Plant/Storm/Earth Controller since I can stack stuns with Fissure). With City Traveller I can get at least one power free'd up. I just usually go with the Fitness pool and one travel power in that case (w/o the prereq).
Very tight but fun to play. Granted, I've not gotten high enough with this Demon/Storm but I plan to do the same thing - all powers from both pools except for Thunderclap.
I'd love to see a build too.

Starting playing a DS/Storm and love it. Only level 20 atm, but not my first Storm. It is indeed a tight build, but the combination of the Demons and Storm is pretty darn cool. Thunderclap is worth skipping, but I think I'm also gonna skip Thunderstorm... haven't decided yet. The unique damage types delivered by the Demons helps in early lvl progression and combined slows and -recharge from Storm and the Demon Prince make me giddy.
I do know for a fact that when my DS/Storm is teamed with her companion DS/Storm toon played by a friend the carnage is most chuckle worthly.

*yeah, I quoted myself.
Think it only gets tight if you wanna take all 3 worthwhile Powers of the Fitness, Fighting and Leadership-Pool. For myself i skip Thunder Clap and the Leadership-Pool. Atm, i only use SOs and haven't designed a IO-Build up to know, but here are the Powers i take(I'm not sure if i should take Tornado instead of Flight, i will decide it later on):

Yes, sorry, Lightning Storm... the reason I may skip it is due to my play style. I'm a push/steamroller. I don't camp long enough in a spot (with the exception of AV or tough EBs) long enough to have a static pet. Especially since this is a toon a regular with it's doppleganger and we tear through maps at break neck speed. Don't get me wrong, I like Lightning Storm, I just am on the fence about taking it at this stage of this toons progression.

I suppose thats one way to build it, but it skips Tornado, most of the DS attacks which I'd like to pick up at least to try, and no travel power until level 47. I'd hate to try and Ninja run or save temps until much of the way through Grandville. Not sure about the Tankermind direction either.
My quick and dirty attempt at something more the way I was thinking has every power from ds and all but clap from storm, which leaves 7 spots, 3 for stam, 2 for travel, 1 for patron shield, and one for whatever at 49. I think its a bit more my direction than Atago's even if the travel problem is still there.
I usually suck at making my own builds without a little something to go off of though, so hopefully this will give other people ideas, or at least let someone that's actually tried either of these sets or both to fix it for me.
Also ignore when slots were placed, I just went for number per power. (oh, and Hell on Earth, I don't know much of anything about it so I left it blank, if it doesn't deserve 6 slots then there are good places to add more)

That's probably about the same build I'd have - one less travel power so one more APP/PPP. Icky tight. hehe
Will just need to figure out the slotting on the Demon stuff, slotted Storm enough times. :P

Tsuam, I am not sure what you meant by saving your temp powers until you are halfway through Grandville. If you raptor pack expires, you can always purchases another one from contact near the Arbiter in the center of the square at the feet of Lord Recluse's statue. Any villain that can make the Cap Au Diable ferry should easily get to the vendor in Grandville.

Seriously? lol I literally never knew that. Has that always been there? I might have missed it in one of the stretches of time I wasn't playing
My overall experience with /storm as a MM, coupled with my new (lvl 20) Demons/Storm MM:
On Demons
The various MM personal attacks on the demons set are quite nice. The damage is respectable and the secondary effects are nice. I've taken all three, and use all three with frequency well beyond what I've done with any other MM build.
On Storm
o2 boost on a MM is more worthwhile for the status protection and +perception than the heal. The heal is nice for topping things off, but your Ember Demon (lvl 12+) can cover the bulk of your healing needs even with just its single target heal. For this reason I see o2 boost as delay-able until higher levels as a stun-breaker for your ember.
Snow Storm on MMs in general is a bit of a mixed blessing. Its requirement to be toggled on to a target is often a liability - especially with the amount of damage being thrown around. Useful more for its -fly, it synergises very well with melee-heavy minion sets (ninjas, I'm looking at you). Demons have pleanty of ranged damage, so it is less useful. Nice, but I find it very situational - and you get ample -speed and -recharge with freezing rain. I'm not yet sure how just FR + demon prince work together, but I'm expecting it'll be nice.
Steamy Mist doesn't synergise quite as well with demons as Shadow Fall, since Shadow Fall covers the resistance holes that the demons own resistance has. That said, outside of psi and negative, your demons resistance with this running is very nice. The confuse resistance is also extremely lovely on any MM, for obvious reasons.
Freezing Rain is a staple of any stormy build, and if you don't take it you're just being weird.
Hurricane I find is a lynchpin of any controller, corrupter or defender build, but more of a emergency-defense for a MM. The knockback it invokes can be difficult to work with, given its pulse nature, making it - for me - less appealing. Nice, but not essential. Can be skipped.
Thunder Clap is, as has already been mentioned by many, extremely skippable. I found it useful for my ninjas because they are so squishy so a minion-stun was useful, but demons are made of sterner stuff than ninjas...
Tornado is a love it or leave it power. I love it, but many don't. If you have some form of -kb effect, Tornado is a brutal damage dealer. Demons has no immobilise effect, so unless you pick one up in your epic pool it'll be throwing things around a lot.
Lightning Storm I personally love for the damage it deals. There's reasons not to take it, but that doesn't stop me!
YMMV, of course. This is just my own observations.

Snow Storm- Yes the Slow-Effect is less important for Ranged-MMs, but Snow Storm halfs the Damage Income for all MMs not only Melees, for me it is one of the essential Powers of the Set. OK, if you kill the Enemy very fast it might be less important. I play mainly at /x6-x8 and there it makes a huge Difference. It can be a Drawback that it is a Toggle if you don't take enough control of your Pets Target-Selection or play in a not well organized Team.
Hurricane is a very nice Power if it fits your Playstyle. Every Storm-MM should test it a while and decide on his own. For myself i would never skip it. It has a nice Debuff, it's nice to help your Pets out of trouble and it's nice to control/hold the debuffed-NPCs in a Corner where your Pets can kill them(especcially if you solo and fight larger Groups).
My Demons/Storm is sitting at 24 right now, and I am loving it.
I just respecced into Hurricane and Snow Storm(Ditched the one whip I had, and Hell on Earth.
My survivability skyrocketed. I went from desperately healing my Demons with o2 all the time, to pretty much only using it once in a while. Hurricane is synergies perfectly well with Demons. Just need to tap the mobs with them and their acc plummets.

With regard to -recharge, FR, the demon prince and the cold demonling are all contributing -recharge on top of (or instead of) SS. While I doubt a solo MM is going to hit the -recharge cap, I'd be interested to see how close you come. From memory, the -recharge cap isn't super-low - since the objective of -recharge isn't to make it better than +hold.
Of course, for MMs under level 32 the demon prince isn't going to be bringing his full whammy to the party. I'd be interested in seeing real numbers from someone with more spare time than I have on the -recharge each one brings - and whether a demon/storm MM is in any danger of hitting the -recharge cap.
I'm debating on the secondary to pair with Demons and I know you can't go wrong with most, if any, of them.
I love /dark but I have *several* Dark toons on Blue and Red side. I love Storm but I have about three Storm toons too. I was trying Thermal but.. good lord I hate buffing all the time - even just doing SB on my Kins gets on my nerves after a while. Maybe if Cold Domination ever came our way I'd give that a try.
My question is - is there any special synergy between Demons and Storm that would help make me feel less guilty about running yet another Storm toon? :P
