OMG I need to check out the Storm Cloud ASAP. BRB hehe
Edit - Nope. Don't see it on my Crab Spider. -
I understand not having the money for commissions but perhaps you can try your hand at threads like these where the prize for winning is a piece of character art.

The contest happens each week so give it a shot! -
Congrats! I have a commission pending with him and I CAN'T WAIT. haha That got me even more excited. That's awesome work there.

I posted this in another thread but in case any Art peeps are looking at it:
I've been looking for an eye aura that's like the Glow aura but doesn't dwarf your face and the back of the head with the bleed out of the glow. The Firefly eye aura is VERY close to what I'm looking for but isn't *perfect*. In my particular case I want to use it for a guy that has a Duster hat on. The aura cuts horribly into almost all of the hats where as the normal Glow eye aura on the lowest setting doesn't cut so obviously into it.
Glow Eye Aura
Firefly Eye Aura
It's more noticeable when looking a bit over the rim of the hat or using other hats like Fedoras but the new glow cuts substantially into the rims of the hats. It's a nitpick but I really like this new aura and how it flickers and fades, so it's almost perfect and addressing that small detail - if possible - would make it 100 percent perfect.I suppose the fix I'd have in mind is that it doesn't bleed up into the top OR it bleeds forward like the older Glow aura does but retains its glow cut off point towards the back of the head.
Mind you I had to bump the color to 3 or 4 to the right from the farthest left in order to get the same intensity as the Glow aura on the furthest left. Even with the Firefly Aura cranked to the darkest color it still clips. -

Agreed. Unless they change the mechanic and allow it to unlock across the board - similar to what the other game does in some cases. I wouldn't mind doing the end game work but doing it for ALL characters I want it on and only during a limited time frame is the suck.

Quote:Maybe a Holiday pack? Halloween and Xmas combined? I could see Fireflies for a Halloween type of thing perhaps. zomg /swoonTake me out, to the black, I won't buy no party pack.
But if this is coming with a Super Booster, I'd certainly buy it for that Snow one. And the firefly one of course.
Edit - OMFG I'm so happy with the Firefly aura. The eyes by themselves are the type of glowing eyes I've always wanted for an aura. The kind that don't swallow your face or emit a nimbus glow that shows BEHIND your head. It's perfection! I'll put this puppy to heavy use.
I really like the snow aura, just needs a bit of fixing up. -
Hey gang!
I'm just now been bitten by the art collection bug thanks to the recent sketches by sythspawn (Nazghul1 on the forums) and have started an official deviantART page. I've uploaded the small amount of art I've gotten and just got my first commission! I have a couple more pending so hopefully in the not too distant future there will be more.
I've submitted some of the art to the CityofHeroes group too, the 3 a day restriction prevents me from getting it all there but soon enough! I think I'm going to be abusing my wallet for some time now thanks to this new addiction.
Feel free to stop by and take a gander at the art, find out about which artists did the work and watch/friend me - anyone in CoH gets an immediate watch right back, since CoH players are awesome by default.
http://thesteampunker.deviantart.com/ for my profile and other art pieces!
My first commission!

Quote:It's from here:Is that an actual comics appearance or a piece of fan art? It's hard to tell.
http://www.collectortimes.com/1999_07/License.html
I took it to be fan art. I came across it too during the contest and was pretty impressed with the look! -
Congrats Henri!
I lucked out with a name that changes hands a lot on Virtue - Baron Boom. Think I'm going to adapt this costume to that toon.
Edit - oh and I like the boots being big. Better to crush the hopes and dreams of Americans! :P -
This is an awesome contest this week and a way difficult one. I really got excited tho since I've been wanting to make a Nazi super villain. Probably way too much information to follow, so apologies in advance!
I tried to retain some of the general concepts from the old costume but really changed quite a bit of it for a more modern look. For me, the Nazi/Fascist image is one of brutal and binding elements. Stuff like buckles, leather, metal and some shock value/scare tactics thrown in when possible. The overall look is not polished and smooth, it's more homegrown and raw - what an organization would piece together to portray a scary alternative to a super hero.
I used buckled leather, heavy metal gloves and a metal helmet that harkens back to the original design but differs.
For the gloves and helmet I used a flared design to give a nod to the word Blitzkrieg:
Quote:For me that means a forward attack, something with a swift aerodynamic movement - strike fast, inspire fear and clean up the leftovers. The flared metal gloves worked great for this and the Vanguard hat was perfection in its shape.a swift intensive military attack, esp using tanks supported by aircraft, designed to defeat the opposition quickly.
I left the face partially open to reveal some of his scarred face from when the concentration camp prisoner threw acid into his face. I also used the Plate face detail, which I've never used but always wanted to. It just freaks me out a bit and in conjunction with the scarred tissue, which I used the bio-organic armor for, it just conveys creepy.
I used the High Collar cape and the shoulder pieces to convey his aristocratic background. The boots, straps, etc. in the costume convey fascist military to me.
I used different colors, as the original costume had some unfortunate color choices (goodbye orange and magenta!) and focused the colors on the Nazi flags which are red, black and white and the German Eagle since, logically, swastikas aren't allowed in CoH.
Quote:The Nazi party used a right-facing swastika as their symbol and the red and black colors were said to represent Blut und Boden ("blood and soil"). Another definition of the flag describes the colours as representing the ideology of National Socialism, the swastika representing the Aryan race and the Aryan nationalist agenda of the movement; white representing Aryan racial purity; and red representing the socialist agenda of the movement. Quote:The Nazi party used the traditional German eagle, standing atop of a swastika inside a wreath of oak leaves. It is also known as the Iron Eagle. When the eagle is looking to its left shoulder, it symbolises the Nazi party, and was called the Parteiadler. In contrast, when the eagle is looking to its right shoulder, it symbolises the country (Reich), and was therefore called the Reichsadler. After the Nazi party came to power in Germany, they forced the replacement of the traditional version of the German eagle with their modified party symbol throughout the country and all its institutions.
And now for the actual Baron pictures!
Close up of the scarred face and the Plate!
Now in my attempts to get some action shots to show off his Superman like powers (eye beams, super strength, flight) I got carried away and thought to myself - what would the Baron do if he found himself in Paragon. So I suppose it's a mini comic strip.
First he would fly around town. Then he would find the Fifth Column as the closest thing he can relate to. Once found there would be some.. discussion on where the Column's leaders are located so that the Baron could discuss matters with them personally. Eventually, one of the Column would crack and spill all the details.
Once the secret location was found, Baron Blitzkrieg would go to the Fifth Column HQ and have some more.. talks. After everyone saw things his way he would have the Column supporting him fully.
Finally, the good Baron would fly around Paragon City, help rally the Column to take down the Council and of course cause some mayhem towards the country he hates so much. *fwoosh*

Quote:I love most of your ideas. Would be awesome to have access to some of those powers! I could see the seeing thru Stealth thing a slight issue negating an entire AT ability but otherwise I like the rest! Was running a task force one night and thought "I would like to see a tier 5 power for each power pool". Told teammates then I was asked what they would be.
So I gave it some thought. These powers wouldnt be available until lvl 26 or something. Maybe not til 30. I tried my best to make them balanced in regards to what they do. Some are meant for fun, some meant for usefulness, some for both.
Fighting
-Test of Endurance = Click: While Test of Endurance is active you gain limited protection from Stuns, Holds, Knockbacks, Sleep, Immobolize, Repel, and Teleport effects. (Was thinking Mag 2 or 3 Prot, not too much, but an amount that could help.)
Flight
-Air Mastery = Passive: Your control over the airflow created when you fly gives you increased chances of deflecting ranged attacks. Anytime you would be knocked back, your control of the air makes you land safely on your feat.
Concealment
-See Invisibility = Toggle: With this power active you can see through almost all forms of stealth. (Was thinking of Excluding Superior Invisibility and the Maelstrom Stealth.)
Leaping
-Extraordinary Leap = (Only available on Outside Maps) Choose a Location on the map and you do a running leap through several layers of atmosphere to the location you designate.
Presence
-Inspire Confidance = Click: Your presence inspires your teammates and increase their performance all around. +20% Damage +20% Accuracy, +5% Regen, +5% Recov, +5% Def, +5% Resist (All unenhanceable, And set to a time that could not be made perma)
Medicine
-From the Brink = Self Rez
OR
-Adrenaline Boost = Click: When you click this power you immediately regain 20% of your total health, and 10% of your total endurance and are protected from Endurance Drain, Regen Debuff, and Recovery Debuff for 1 minute.
Speed
-After Image = Passive: While you have Superspeed Active you move so fast it causes your enemies to think you aren't exactly where you appear, causing them to miss you more often.(This would take the form of a defense buff, unless its possible with current coding for a -ToHit debuff to be applied only when a power is used against YOU)
Teleportation
-Dimension Rift = Teleport to a zone of your choice that isn't restricted to you.
OR
-Greater Teleport = (Only Available on Outside Maps) Teleport to any marker on the map. (Would pop up a map and the player would click on the marker then teleport right to it.
Leadership
-Clarity of Mind: = Having your teammates around you, helps keep your mind clear from distraction and outside thought. Click: +1 Mag Protection From Fear and Confuse Per Teammate in Range, and +2% Psi Def per teammate in range. was thinking Range 15 ft. or maybe 20.
OR
-Maybe it lets you choose 1 of 5 Roles. The power would only affect you, and you can only have 1 Role power at a time. Not to be confused with having one active at a time. Once you pick one, you can't pick another until you respec.
--Damage = Build Up Like Power
--Buff = PowerBoost like power that affects buffs on the team.
--Debuff = Powerboost like power that affects debuffs on baddies.
--Shield = Taunt that grants you Mez resist because you are expecting the oncoming attack.
--Lockdown = Powerboost Like power that affects Mez effects on baddies.
Now I'm sure someone will find a way to break this somewhere and somehow, but how does it each one sound, and if you could have a tier 5 power for some pools. what would it be and do? -
I'm crossing fingers and toes that they announced a Halloween Booster Pack at NY Comic Con.

I wanted to show off the sketch prizes thus far to 1) show just how good Naz is and 2) maybe get even more people involved with the contests.
Here is my namesake, Goblin Queen:

I'll give that a look in the power window.
Is KM/Elec better than KM/DA? -
I'm making a concept build based around a dead hero that came back to the living but is still tapped into the netherworld. I didn't want to use Dark Melee but instead wanted to try Kinetic Melee and conceptualize it as soul energy that the hero is using. Dark Armor is the closest thing on Scrapper side that I'd want to use - if it was a Brute then *maybe* Energy Aura. I also thought about Shields for the various visual combinations I could do but I really like Cloak of Fear (or some Fear powers) for this concept. I guess I could dip into the Presence pool if need be (if I didn't take Dark Armor).
I've not seen much at all after my searches for this combination. Has anyone tried it out? What's it like? Is it a hot mess or untapped awesome?
Thanks! -
Disappointing that there aren't more APP changes for Villains. I had hoped Masterminds in particular would get addressed - shields and a Munitions set.
-
I hope so. It annoyed me. I've tried twice now (forgot it wasn't there the first time). Doesn't make much sense to me for it not to be included.
-
Quote:Agreed. I do hope they try their hand at it. Like almost everything else, they'll probably do it better than CO if they bother to try.I'll add my voice to the "stances in this game should have been handled like they did them in CO" crowd. This game is superior to CO in many ways, but one of the few things that game still does better is its stances.
What we got here last month are really nothing more than "motionless emotes" and they suffer all the restrictions other emotes suffer in this game. They are better than nothing, but as pointed out trying to use them in binds is problematic at best. There's really no way to cleanly do things like the auto "Hover+Stance" bind without cheating it.
Also on the related note hopefully we'll get a choice of pose options with the travel powers eventually. -
No screenies but from years of use I can tell you if you have any female toons then you'll get a lot of extras from the wedding pack. The female pieces are SO good. The moving tail tuxes are of limited use but aren't too bad and you can get a few moving pieces on one costume now (cape/coat tail/wings, etc.).
You do get a few emotes as well (throw rosepedals, confetti, propose, etc.).
So if it were me, I'd get the wedding pack and eventually the party pack. -
Quote:I'd LOVE the old pointy ears back!Going back to actual 'lost' items again, I've been wanting the original Pointy Ears of the old 'Heads with Pointy Ears' head back ever since they replaced them with the new ear system. If you could make some 'Pointy Ears' for the new ear system that are shaped like the old Pointy Ears, I'd be grateful. (They might stand a -little- refinement -- the old ones really did have a very sharp point that made them look a bit low-poly, but very small tweaks only!)
I did see one other post earlier in this thread about them, but the ears in the shots were mostly covered by hair. Here's a shot showing the original 'Pointy Ears' as well as one showing the current 'Elf Ears' for comparison. Looking at them from the side, with the head in profile, is the way to really see the differences that make the Elf Ears unappealing, as a substitute. (To me, anyway.)
First, the old, original Pointy Ears:
Then the new, current Elf Ears:
And don't you DARE take away the ability to use this hairstyle and the tiara together! I can accept the slight clip, really. I'd be really, REALLY unhappy to suddenly not be able to use these to create this look anymore. -
Quote:I had asked Naz a while back about entering the contest again after winning the first week and he said there were no restrictions and I could enter every contest if I wanted. And as Naz said, I didn't win last week. If you're going purely by the blog it may not show the winners yet from last week but they're visible in this thread. With all that being said, however, I will not enter this week. Seems counterproductive when the judge of this week's contest brings up me not being allowed to enter.Goblin queens won twice in a row... Maybe there should be a rule against such a thing? Being left out of the competition for a week+ if you win?
Ah well! Thanks, Naz. I really enjoyed the challenge this past week, it was the hardest yet! Thanks everyone for the comments, all of the entries were great designs as usual.I really like these contests as they get me out of my normal costume making rut and make me think differently on how to put something together. I never would have created anything from the last three weeks for my normal day to day playing but now I would consider using these type of costumes for new characters, it's rather cool.
