The problem with StJ is: It has one awesome attack, one good attack and a bunch of mediocre attacks.
That is why it seems to work so much better on a Brute by being able to stick an extra awesome attack in there in the form of Gloom.
The problem with this attack chain: RC-SB-HB-CU-RC-SB-SC is it is too long and doesn't accentuate the awesome that is CU. CU should be used on cooldown.
Take for example this simple attack chain: SB-RC-HB-SB-CU. That attack chain has 7.45% more raw damage than Combat's but it sacrifices the Fury of the Gladiator Proc for it.
The thing is, Combat's attack chain is over 10s long. Even if that proc had a 100% chance to fire, it wouldn't be permanent. To compensate for a 7.45% loss of DPS, it needs to be up one third of the time but it is going to be up less than one fifth of the time.

There looks to be a whole lot of complicated ways to go with StJ and all it's proc potential, the problem is that they all seem less efficient than simply beating down your opponent like you would with any other set.
  2. You should add Brute into your calculations. They get recharge a little easier by having a decent ranged attack to add into the chain and another opportunity for a +10% purple.
I was able to get enough recharge on a StJ/Energy Brute for the following attack chain: Shin Breaker -> Rib Cracker -> Gloom -> Shin Breaker -> Crushing Uppercut
for 215.51 dps. That isn't including reactive procs nor -resistance. Also Gloom and Rib Cracker are only 5 slotted, they could add another proc in there for more damage but I actually intend to use this build and don't really have any slots to spare...

  3. You only have two builders slotted for damage and not enough recharge to chain them properly.
Also, I have to ask about your slotting for Hasten. It is literally the strangest slotting I have ever seen on a power.
Also, you went absurdly overboard on the recharge.
It doesn't take a lot of recharge to achieve the optimal attack chain for a StJ Scrapper and you have blown way passed that. The only thing that recharge is doing for you is shaving a second or so off the recharge of Shield Charge.

Here is a build I toyed with for a while:
The recharge is a lot lower but it can still run the optimal attack chain and with spiritual, is 5s off perma hasten. It has better defense than your build, better DDR, better slotted attacks, it has the Achilles proc and it costs several billion less to produce.

  4. Sorry to say it but the odds of MA getting an animation revamp are very, very small.
The animations of a set are about 98% of the decvelopment time in creating them. Now that we are F2P, it seems far more likely that they would rather spend that extra 2% time and make a new powerset that they can sell than revamp the animations of MA for free.
  5. What happens if a ViP gets Celestial Armor and then drops to Premium status?
    Can they still use it?

Sure Sonic, FF and Traps will be fine but you can't create an archtype with the knowledge that it is only useful with a couple of very limited combinations. The devs create ATs like that by accident, never on purpose.

    Melee/Support AT

A lack of mez protection on a melee character would be an issue.

  10. One thing that hasn't been mentioned about StJ is the combo system isn't as constricting as Dual Blades but it still does have some significant drawbacks.
If you miss an attack in your prime attack chain, you either have to sub in a weaker attack to keep your combo level up or you have to use Crushing Uppercut with one less combo point. Either way, a miss results in a loss of DPS greater than what other sets have to deal with.
  11. Wow didn't realize Rib Cracker's debuff was so short lived - I made the mistake of looking at the taunt duration in Mids for Brutes...
That attack isn't nearly as good as I had once thought..
I worked out the Brute's optimal attack chain (Well it might not be, it suffers from Rib Cracker not lasting the duration again) and it seems that Brutes are the way to go for StJ with the attack chain of: Shin Breaker -> Rib Cracker -> Gloom -> Shin Breaker -> Crushing Uppercut -> Gloom -> Repeat
It does require significantly more recharge to get Gloom recharging in 3.168s though.
  12. Rib Cracker -> Shin Breaker -> Heavy Blow -> Crushing Uppercut -> Shin Breaker -> Heavy Blow -> repeat is your best sustainable attack chain.
Two Combo points are essentially being wasted but one combo point plus SC does less DPA than Heavy Blow and adding another builder in there lowers your DPS more than boosting another finisher increases it.
Brutes can do better by chucking Gloom in there.

As has been said, you are missing pool powers. Weave, Maneuvers and either Stealth/Combat Jumping/Hover are all useful. With average slotting, three of those net 12.2% defense right there. If you are prepared to sacrifice Hasten (not unheard of on a set like Willpower) you can also stick in a 4th for an extra 2.9%.

No because they both offer different values. Kinetic Combat offers considerably more than Reactive Armor.

Well assuming the damage v survivability of Brutes and Scrappers are balanced in the first place, then taking a little bit of damage away on one side and taking nothing from the other shifts that balance.

Whether the two ATs are balanced in general is the real question, it seems most people tend to agree that they are very, very close.
  17. Thanks for the info guys - with the knowledge that the issue is being actively worked on, I'll just let my points sit there unspent until the issue is resolved. Probably a good way to force me into not wasting my points anyway.

You are right, it is a poor analogy - part of my $15 sub goes toward that server transfer, so it isn't as free as the flaming bag of poo... But then again, you are paying for that poo with the punch .

Not to say it wasnt extremely effective as a Scrapper, but I like the Fury mechanic more than Criticals.

It is better on a Brute. The combo mechanic is enhanced by Fury but not by Criticals.

It might be best on a Stalker though, don't know a lot about those guys.

Big Day Out is coming soon, has a pretty nice looking line up too.

It is something the majority of the playerbase has no desire for. Sure it is something for nothing so technically a "gift" but the same can be said if I were to leave a flaming bag of poo on your porch.

Is the server transfer token a huge gift? No, it's not. But it's free along with your subscription, where we're already gaining more than we were before Freedom. So if you want to look a gift horse in the mouth, go right ahead. But For 15 bucks a month as a Preem, I don't think you'll get everything you'll get as a subscriber.
What do you mean? As I said, I lose nothing but Incarnates...
Well that and the signature story arc that I have no interest in.
The opportunity cost is whether Incarnates are worth the loss of points.
  23. I would have gone with a regen Scrapper or Brute...
They beenfit from recharge more than any other character and they benefit more from defense than any other character. They scream for cash.
  24. A server transfer isn't really a gift to a lot of us, it is a nothing.

The thing is, the Devs don't want to give you too many points, they want you spending extra cash. If they gave us more points that would mean they would have to raise prices to have us spend extra cash which just makes things more expensive and less attractive for the Prems.
The server transfer was given to us as a nothing to make it seem like we are getting $15 worth of free stuff a month to keep us subscribed: 400 points + 800 points worth of value = $15. Granted, as you said it is pretty much worthless and doesn't add up.

I do think the Devs need to do something to make subscribing seem more appealing though, if I unsubbed right now I only lose Incarnates but I gain 920 points a month. The decision to stay subbed is actually quite difficult and it really shouldn't be if they have done things right.
  25. Also, if SB is annoying you and you haven't taken the time to see Null yet, you can always click it off yourself now.
