  1. Someone tell me how great it is. I can't get off work to play so I need to make believe and have some vicarious Going Rogue enjoyment. =)
  2. While they live they are a significant source of extra damage.

I'm surprised Frosticus hasn't chimed in on this. All three of his insanely high (400 damage per second plus) damage builds use pets to achieve their full potential.

Really, there is a bigger issue involved. COV is not built around the need for a tank. All Villains have the tools and the expectation of being able to handle their own aggro. The role of "tank" is not needed in the rogue isles. this gets into the same camp as healing being the absolute worst/least effective way to keep your teammates alive compared to buffing or debuffing. Attempting to play villains as if they are heroes is not the most efficient or successful way to do it.

This I have to totally disagree with. I have run all three "treespecs" in the time it takes the heroes to do one. This is not always done with great toons.
The hardest of the treespecs is the lvl 24+ one. As there are 3 bosses to find, then ambushes at the Tree.
There is probably a guide on how to do these effectivly and effeciently.
I'm going to back sunstormer on this. The treespecs are among the hardest things out there.

I have been on over 18 attempts and have 1 success. You are correct in that they are fast, however the tree itself will slaughter whole parties, many pugs do not have the skill or patience to clear teh vines, and they respawn very quickly. It is quite common for squishies to step a little bit too far around a rock and get killed by the tree. Then a second goes over to try and rez the first and also gets killed. Do this a few times and people start to leave. One or two down and you can't kill the vines fast enough and the tree is invulnerable while even 1 vine is up.

By contrast, the hero respecs are easy, but slow. Outside of the LRSF the treespec is the hardest thing unique to redside. (Lady Grey, Hami, reichsman, etc are all available both sides, though Reichsman is different among the two sides).

Recharge Reduction is right up there with the others, especially in the level 50 range it is valuable. Heals and defense are close but a touch behind the ones you listed.

Exotics are almost always waste of time (interrupt, stun, hold, confuse, phase, etc).

To me the really fascinating thing was to learn how far outside the curve I am. Merits multiplied my ability to contribute recipes by far more than 30x. And yet the impact on the community was primarily negative.

Due to my schedule and lack on in-game contacts and particularly bad reflexes and character building skills, I have with my shiny 27 month vet badge, run about 40 task forces all total on all characters combined. under the old system, I had managed 1 Citadel, 1 Lady Gray, 2 ITFs and 2 Katie Hannons after I forget how long. This means I generated F#$^& all pool-c recipes.

With the change I have barely done more task forces over time, but now I get merits for story arcs. I generate like 10+ Pool Cs per character before Oroboros kicks in. With Oroboros I have multiple characters that have pumped out over 60 pool C recipes.

If this were the case for all players the market would be saturated with Pool Cs. And yet it is clearly hurt badly. I guess the Devs seriously misunderstood how many of me are out there. =)

Watching this change was very fascinating to me.
  7. So I'm running the Incinerate-scorch-cremate-scorch chain because it is easy on the recharge.

What is the next step up in damage? And what is the top end FM chain?

This seems internally contradictory. The harder the content the LESS useful healing is due o it being so far behind buffs/debuffs in effectiveness. Additionally, most of the top shields come in very early (FF, Cold, Sonic, Etc).

You can place them at pretty much any mission level. If you place them below their listed level they have vastly reduced rewards (all the way down to boss equivalent).

There are exceptions to this strategy though.

Sometimes you're better going with the Touch of Death over Kinetic combat for your build because the actual benefit to your attack from KC sucks (especially the accuracy bit), and therefore getting 1.5% S/L might be a better choice than 3%. Similarly with PBAoEs and Oblivion.

This is especially true for builds that have a lot of one type of defense already, much less true for blasters and others who have to build the defense from zero.

In the end, look at your options, try to follow Kendo's advice where possible, but also, pay attention to your final powers, don't weaken something critical just to chase a set bonus.

Every now and again you see someone slot knockout blow with a full set of Stupefy or Absolute Amazement. Sure they have nice set bonuses, but there's no damage in those sets!

If you mean a proc that has a chance to go of when an attack hits, like the Achilles heel, or many damage procs that is one thing. If you mean a proc that gives a chance to hit, like soulbound allegiance, that is different.

In the case of soulbound allegiance, it will check to trigger on you (not the pets) each time you summon them. It will also check to trigger on the pets each time they attack. It was bugged in the past, but is not bugged now.

In the case of all damage procs, they will check to hit when the pet attacks WITH A POWER THAT ACCEPTS THE SET THE PROC COMES FROM. This is infinitely important. Mercenary Spec Ops can slot the Achilles Heel proc, but very few of their attacks can benefit from it. I think one, with a second if fully upgraded. Similarly if you slot the chance for negative damage, they only have the exact same attacks that can accept it. So it is generally a waste. Both work good in the bottom tier mercenary.

Which specific proc were you thinking of and which pet?
  12. Thanks for all the answers!

There's a lot of reasons people don't supply them ("What's a reward merit?", lower profit levels, slower movement) and fewer reasons people don't demand them. This is my experience too. I only have one character left under level 30 with less than 100 million inf, and all of them have far more IOs than DO/SOs slotted. As in 90-10 split.

If you post them, and leave them up, they will sell. And while they may not sell for 10 digits, if I'm level 17 and I sell five IOs for 65k to 200k, that's way better than the 600 (no k) I would get for selling a TO, or the 250 for vendoring salvage. But there are plenty of IOs I move for over a million before level 30.

    So LOLbat

This makes me sad, it was one of my favorites. Fun story, good jokes, and some creative mechanics.

Alignment and fame points are pretty much the same thing. When you get a fame point, one "box" that can hold a tip gets filled and locked. That box doesn't empty for 20 hours after you get that fame point. Morality missions do not use the fame point "box".
So if your alignment degrades in 20 hours, and it takes 48 hours to acquire 10 points, how is that even possible?

What about the casual player who does 1 tip per week. Will they ever be able to change sides? I only play each of my characters once or twice a month for a couple hours. If my progress is expiring, how do I switch sides?

    Quote:
You cannot at this time get any tips/contacts in Praetoria, only in non-Praetoria zones. You can dismiss any tips. Tips in the Rogue Isles will always be geared to making you a villain or rogue, while tips in Paragon City will always be geared to making you a hero or vigilante.
aaaaaaand now I'm completely lost. If tips in paragon are only positive, I thought the whole point was each had a choice and you can go positive or negative?

Personally, I like to buy mine on the market.
  18. It will never have as strong a secondary effect as a powerset that only gets that secondary because you have flexibility that they lack. An ice blaster can only do cold and -recharge, they can't ever deal toxic or fire, and they don't get dots or -dam. You can pick and choose as needed, and in exchange for that flexibility you lose some of the potency of the secondary effect.

I think it is a pretty fair trade. I will also mention that they did leave you the ability to slot for any effect and the bonuses and procs will work regardless of what ammo you are using. So that is quite nice.

So, I still don't get it.

What are alignment points and how many do we need and what for?

What happens when the fame point goes away?

In Praetoria, when you get a tip if it is villain and you want to go hero do you abandon it or will there always be a hero option?

Do we have an idea how many enemies to grind for a tip?

From the mention of city zones I'm assuming only street sweeping counts not in missions.

How do teams affect tips? Random who gets the tip or everyone or no one?

You can do up to 5 Tip missions per day, which are dropped in the course of your regular leveling, and once you have completed 10 Tip missions of the appropriate alignment, you'll get a Morality mission drop, and completing that will change your alignment.
As Derangedpolyglot pointed out earlier in the thread, we have a developer quote saying only those with Going Rogue can change alignment. Now, whether they need to access Praetoria or not is a different issue, but since both the ability to alter alignment and the ability to visit praetoria both require Going Rogue it seems a moot point.

Per DP, here is the link to Ghost Falcon's statement.

It's a vicious circle. With supply people will place bids and use them. With demand people will sell. Either one lacking will hurt the other resulting in a downward spiral of suffering.

Demand cannot be generated. On the other hand supply can. Fixing one half of the cycle will positively impact the other.

That is way too complex a mechanic. I think it puts too much burden on the devs for the tradeoff. Now, adding small amount of DDR into some pool powers (weave and maneuvers are the obvious ones, but another thread did open the idea of adding new powers to existing pools like was done for APPs and Patrol Pools) an enhancement station buff, a temp power and/or a new unique IO with a small amount of DDR?

that is much more do able, and that would make a fair portion of what you are looking for happen.

besides isn't pve/pvp bad enough? Do you really want 4 different mechanics for the Devs to have to balance independently?
