My main stalker is dark/dark (I also run spines/nin but he sucks so bad I like to pretend he doesn't exist).
It really depends on situation for me. AS is a lot of damage fast, but it is not always the right choice. In groups I don't use AS much, but if I see a boss under 50% with his attention elsewhere, placate bu AS = dead. Faster than if I cycled a round of smaller attacks.
In general play though, a crit with midnight's grasp will kill a +2 minion even without buildup. Buildup plus crit will kill with siphon life. MG + SL will kill a lieut if the MG crits. With buildup AS will not kill a boss. BU + AS+ Placate + MG still won't kill a +2 boss who is at 100%. So I really save it for opportunity shots to kill something annoying and tough. In general fighting I rely on MG - Smite - SL - Smite and it has never failed to do a solid job. Especially timing placates for right before MG. -
It's not just the 7.5% recharge, many go with Basilisk for the ranged defense as well.
I like 5 from the PvP hold set plus a damage/--- Anything from a ranged damage set. Works well for me, but I do also run Musculature so I'm not missing as much damage as if I had another alpha. -
Or triple or quadruple dip depending on build. As Grey mentioned, a /fire has two toggles in their AT powers plus tough. /Dark has three plus tough.

Quote:You are correct. The IO is a "global" so the bonus is present as long as you are within 3 levels of the IO itself, even if the power is greyed out.I have a low level Aegis: +Mez resist) and I want to slot it in "Tough"... other than that enhancement (and maybe one more like it) tough is pretty much worthless to me.
I read that it doesnt matter when I acquire tough (can be greyed out) as long as the enhancement is low enough level. so when I respec and I put tough in at 50 and slot Aegis +mez resist is lvl 25, I will get the benefit from the +mez resist it all the way down to level 22? or am I misreading that? -
Quote:Can't be said often enough. Very, very true.If the customer were always right, this game would have died years ago.
The customer always being right would have meant the devs would have been obligated to implement every idiotic suggestion anyone ever made for the game.
The truth of the matter is: The customer is very frequently dead wrong. -
Quote:Well, keep in mind that they are unlikely to put out content that requires the players to be mind-controlled slaves of the well (hence no "short path" for us). And Cole may be/appears to be the only incarnate in praetoria with his henchmen being given excess power as part of what the well gives him, not via them becoming incarnates. So, when do we get to play the Praetorian role in the Pra/Pri Earth War?
We've already played 20 levels in which we could side with the Loyalists but beyond that it's all been anti-Loyalist content.
I would be disappointed if Praetoria didn't get the full immersion treatment that comes as being part of a major expansion.
Thus, the lore is somewhat against players ever joining Cole at this level. That said, the Devs have control over lore and can write anything they want into it. I'd certainly be interested to see something like this, but I strongly doubt it will come to pass. Especially with so many people for so many years complaining about villain side making you a servant of arachnos when they wanted to be a villain on their own -- back-stepping and just replacing arachnos with cole seems the exact opposite of the current trend for story arcs. This is true whether you think such a proposition would be heroic or villainous.
I really don't see it happening. -
My first and favorite character is BS/Regen, has more time logged than all my other 30+ characters combined. But I can solidly say that I'll never make another BS or Regen until both get seriously reworked.
BS is so far behind Katana that I wouldn't complain if they pulled it out of the game completely.
Like all others, I agree that WP really steps on /regen's toes and does it more reliably and with less fuss. Combined with a sword you also end up having redraw issues that WP ignores.
So, go Kat/WP have no regrets. -

Shards I think were handled fine, what surprised me is that the notice of the well is not used for any of the new stuff. That would keep people interested in the WSF.
Also, we don't know what will be used in later slots or newer recipes. They added thread recipes for alpha slots, might add shard components for an upgrade to a thread-based very rare or who knows what else. -
I REALLY hope it gets made the weekly target very soon so people find out about it. but looks like the trials are taking precedence even over WSF.
It'd still help somewhat. -
Claws/WP is a very popular combo.
Claws/Invuln is the only one I'd stay away from as the knocks in claws will reduce your benefits from invulnerability. But even then it's not a big deal. -
I could have been clearer when I used the 5% example as the top but that is to a specific type of resistance. Whereas Cardiac gives it to anything you currently have a power for. Making it almost global if you have the right AT and power choices. And in some cases, like Invulnerabliity, it can be far more than 2% for S/L resist.
The only global resitance bonus I know of is the PvP unique. All the rest are 1 or 2 types at most. Far inferior to what cardiac offers. -
Quote:The devs have also said that more incarnate content is coming. There are two trials now. I assume more in i21, and 22 and 23 and 24 etc.I apologize for not dropping by here earlier. Nice points. But there's one thing that I don't get.
If you're not going to do any incarnate trials - you won't have any of the Judgement, lore, Destiny, interface slots unlocked.
They unlock through Incarnate xp. No clobbering baddies in the trials, no ixp, no slots, so, no need to try and fill them.
That is, of course, unless I missed some other way to get ixp?
Just like originally there were very few ways to get alpha components, now there are all the thread recipes as well as the old shard recipies. -
Nukes, Shivans, & HVAS. People used this combo to do a 3 minute Hami Raid. The Devs wanted these trials to be a challenge. Nukes and other temps make them trivial. Same reason they disabled them for the Cathedral of Pain.
-
I can say that my one complaint with Praetoria is that it moves too fast and I kept missing out on content. But overall it is really a melee-players dream. I loved scrapping through it.

Ambush farms are in AE and you can do those anywhere, there's no need to be in Paragon at all. If you want to farm in a team with your hero friends, then use the AE in the Rikti Warzone. But in general, Farming works better solo anyway.

Quote:Actually it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a 2% resistance bonus from any IO set. The closest is the PvP unique that gives 3% and that sells for over 3 billion inf. You can get 1% or less resistance to a specific type of damage from a set. And Winters Gift gives 5% resist to cold. But the ability to increase toughness plus every AT-specific power by 2%? doesn't exist in the set bonus world at this time.Im not sour on it, just, skeptical really. Given that its obviously a tremendous amount of effort to do the incarnate stuff naturally.
The numbers, don't really do it much justice, I mean, you can get that 2% out of an IO set quite easily rather than go through all this. -
Quote:I see where you're coming from and to an extent I agree. But all the same, I appreciate more and more damage.Eh. DPS reaches a 'pointless' level at certain points, just because in much of the game the enemy health threshold is pretty easy to reach. What Blasters do pretty often is easy to access Burst AoE damage. I also wonder- do many of the blaster DPS calculations include defiance damage buffs?
Being able to solo DE Monsters in under 3 minutes is pretty cool, and not pointless if you want to prep for a hami raid and don't have time on your server's raid day so you want to do it early (I've done this a few times)
Smaller groups doing the mothership raid is cool and not pointless.
Ensuring that reichsman isn't impossible to defeat because your only MM/Defender dropped off your barracuda team isn't pointless.
Living with as many lethal-based characters as I have, there is no such thing as "pointless" damage when buildup + headsplitter at level 50+1 with musculature core, only hits for 200 damage against robots, Malta, Council, 5th column, freakshow, and generally speaking everyone who isn't Carnies and DE at level 50.
And, for me, while I have builds that in other players' hands can wipe out a spawn in less than 20 seconds, my reflexes are so crap that I need over a minute to do the same thing with the same character. Upping my damage substantially will be a tremendous blessing to my game experience.
Then there are the people who just enjoy the big numbers and faster times.
Maybe scrappers will finally get to solo diabolique before she can phase and run as beyond the player speed cap until she regens past 80% and comes back just to do it again. Maybe there will be more GM soloing builds out there. I'm looking forward to the day my stalkers can solo Lusca, not because I actually want to but because I want to be able to.
And most importantly, more damage means that smaller teams can do what used to take bigger ones. This is more casual friendly.
Edit: there is the whole e-peen contest of my toon does more DPS than your toon hahahahaha worship me. But I tend to think that is pointless. -
Quote:No, not even close. Getting a notice of the well was 100% guaranteed in about 2 hours or less. You ran the WSF 1 time, and boom. Some of them only take 30 minutes (ITF, Posi though that was buggy). Even if they make Doc Q the WSF for three months straight, that's still less play time than getting the 8 Empyrians to craft a very rare. The difference is you can get only 1 notice a week. You can get 1 empiran a day and as many astral merits as your willing to earn.
So 7 empirans a week at 8-10 threads = 56-70 threads. Thats 2 or 3 components a week just like the notices.
Unlocking the slots takes longer than Alpha, but once that is done everything else is much, much easier.
8 Empyreans, if we assume 1 week, you're looking at 4 and 4. My expeirence with BAFs is about 30-45 minutes, and Lamda a touch longer. You're honestly saying that 4-5 hours is less time than 30 minutes to 2 hours? As I read you, that appears to be your argument.
Especially once you factor in wait times and gathering, 1 WSF compared to 8 league formings, there's no contest. 1 WSF is vastly faster.
Not only unlocking, but also getting the components is more time consuming on these newer ones. -
Quote:My dark is a stalker, but what I like is being able to ignore sappers. I believe Dechs Kaison summed it up best in the tanker forums when someone complained about them and he said "this is where I say neener neener poo poo".Been reading up on DA and agonizing over how to make a fun, powerful toon. I know Werner loves his Kat/DA.
My problem is that I've always used the other scrapper secondaries. Right now I'm *this* close to rolling up a BS/SD ... but I'm really trying to see if DA could be the awesome scapper secondary I'm looking for.
What do you like best as /DA toons and why?
-G.A.
The endurance issues aren't nearly as bad as people say if you manage your attacks properly.
It really has so many options and abilities that it does a little of everything. You can build defense onto it, it has very respectable resistance, the heal is amazing, it stuns, fears, resists psi, becomes nearly immune to end drain, etc.
It is not godly out of the box, but you can customize it to be almost anything you want it to. For me, that is really the appeal. Now, if only I didn't suck so bad at builds =) -
Quote:I feel sad that stalkers and blasters don't rank higher in the damage dealing. In both cases that is their primary function and both are out-done at it by other archetypes.Does anyone else find it sad that almost nowhere in this thread is a blaster brought forth as being the best DPS (except for I think Combat's post). I mean since that's pretty much all they have to offer.
Admittedly the thread's not terribly big yet, but it's kind of sad that when someone asks for best DPS the first thought isn't, "Ohhh a blaster." -
Quote:I disagree. I make a lot of money selling purples that drop, I have a bit of a stockpile, and I can get anything I want, even the PvP recipes that cost more than the inf cap of 2-billion at the drop of a hat.Quoted for truth.. getting purples is harder then unlocking this stuff with Trial runs.
I have not been able to unlock a single slot, much less put anything into it, in two weeks of playing.
Some people can earn over 1 billion inf a day on the market. That buys 2-8 purples per day, depending on set and specific piece (the sleeps are down at 50m each, some of hecatomb are over 500m). The market forum has guides on how to earn 1 billion per week. Even I playing less than 9 hours a week manage to pull in a couple hundred million a week just running tip mission and selling luck of the gambler's and kinetic combat bought with hero and villain merits.
It is far easier to get purples because the only limit is inf. The new slots require experience, specific drops, and inf. And not a small amount of inf either. If you want to unlock a slot 100% using threads for experience you need 85 million inf to unlock a slot (assuming you have the 34 threads available). You can buy anything from Fortunata's hypnosis (possibly two of them) and almost anything from Absolute Amazement or the Confuse set for the cost of 1 slot. There are 4 slots, I don't know if the second tier slots are more expensive or the same because I haven't gotten the basic ones opened yet. and that's not counting putting anything into it, just opening it. If you want to buy a tier 4, you're looking at an inf cost equal or greater to any of the top-purples. Plus the time spent getting the drops.
Purples are easier. I've succeeded there, repeatedly. I have yet to succeed at the new slots.
Finally, if you're patient, you can solo grind any purple you want by killing level 47 enemies with a 50+1 character. There's no limit to what will give you purples except stay out of AE. Hell, I've seen three teammates get purples while on the new trials. =)
Please note: I am not in any way shape or form saying I think the slots should be made easier to unlock. I am simply disagreeing that getting purples is harder. -
