Increasing the difficulty

What is the optimal difficulty to maximize drops with new incarnate powers? 0x8 high speed slaughterfest, or maybe +4x8?
How much does increasing the level effect the rate of recipe/salvage drops?

With the +1 shift won't it be the same as what +4 used to be?

It depends on the character but in general running at +8 and then adjusting the level to give a good kill speed is best. In terms of inf recipe drops are your biggest earners (either commons that sell for 80K-100K each or rare ones you can sell on the market).

Level does not impact salvage/recipe drops but does increase inf drops (I want to say it's about 30% but I'm not certain, it's probably easiest to just test it yourself).

I think his point was that you can't set the difficulty to +5.

Derp well +4 then though with incarnates a difficulty increase seems necessary for regular content.

For what it's worth, I was running on 0x8, but increased it to +1x8 with the level shift because footstomp was knocking some of the guys back instead of down.

Actually the +1 is making it as difficult as +3 used to be.

I've always found the quickest killing in the 52 - 53 range.

Level has zero impact on drops.

Now, if the level changes how fast you kill, that might alter the speed at which you get drops. But in and of itself, level is 100% irrelevant.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Level does seem to affect ticket drop rates though. Anywhoo, where is the test or word of god that says level doesnt affect recipe/salvage drop rates?

Does increasing level effect the chances of getting better recipes/purples?

No, except that if the enemies are lower level than your combat level, they won't drop shards, and if they're lower level than 47, they won't drop purples. A -2 enemy has the same chance to drop an item as a +50 does. However, you'll kill lower level enemies quicker, so setting your difficulty to +0 is usually best (-1 gets faster kills, but many recipe drops will be 49 instead of 50, which cuts their value WAY down).

Rank however, does affect drop chances. Lieutenants have a higher chance to drop items than Minions, and Bosses a higher chance than Lts. So if you can handle bosses, turn them on in your difficulty.

Does anyone know just how much higher though? Oftentimes you can end up spending as much time finishing a boss as it took to wipe out every single LT and minion. There's a major speed increase when you don't fight bosses, so it'd have to be a pretty major drop rate increase to make them worth it.

It is a huge increase, according to the data the wiki's mined up these are the numbers (I think in 10k trials)

Minion: 1/1000
LT: 1/150
Boss: 1/50

That's the reason the ITF is so popular for shard farming, the disproportionately high amount of bosses.

For salvage and recipes, a LT has three times the chance of a minion, and a boss has three times the chance of a LT. For inf, a boss will drop triple what a LT will, which is triple what a minion will.

Also, bosses have a chance to drop a "Gold" recipe (ie, a recipe from the Gold Ticket Roll/Merit Reward Roll pool). I'd say that on average, I tend to get 1-3 of these for each purple I get. Many of the drops in this pool aren't all that spectacular, but there are a few very good ones. Note that bosses that are scaled down to Lts will never drop these Gold recipes.
