Thoughts about claws brute?

Sup,

I've got a low level Claws/WP brute that I was thinking of starting to level up. However I haven't played claws since issue 4 and I was just wondering if claws are any good on brute later on? Also what other secondaries go with claws?

Claws for Brutes is an extremely well-rounded set. The ST damage is pretty good and it has great AoE potential. The fast recharging powers ensure that you always have an attack ready to go and the set just feels fast. Personally I'm going with fire because I can squeeze 3 Spins into a single Fiery Embrace for massive AoE damage.

But pretty much any Brute secondary will work. I'd say go with whatever tickles your fancy.

Claws/WP is a very popular combo.

Claws/Invuln is the only one I'd stay away from as the knocks in claws will reduce your benefits from invulnerability. But even then it's not a big deal.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Claws works less well on Brutes than scrappers because Brutes dmg buff from Follow-Up is less. However, Brutes get heavier damage out of Spin (and maybe 1-2 other attacks that might have been adjusted).

What this means is that for high-end DPS builds using FU-Focus-Slash or some variant thereof, you will be better off on a Scrapper. Which I learned the hard way with my tricked-out Claws/SR. But otherwise you should have a fun ride with a claws brute if that's not your goal (top DPS).

Claws/sr I still think is the ideal pairing, but I'm going with Claws/dark just because it can be a beast later on.

My advice would be the exact opposite:

Claws/inv on a brute is a fantastic combo. invuln toughness, and claws damage.

The key is simple:

DON'T TAKE THE KNOCKBACK POWER.

You totally don't need it.

I just don't get it. Knocked back enemies aren't doing damage to you anyway, so who cares whether they contribute to your defense? Jump away from the group for a second, knock them all in the same direction, and jump back.

I'm playing through a Claws/Dark and it is an absolute beast. I use Shockwave to keep my enemies where I want them. On their backs and in a tight group for my damage aura and Spin.

Knocked back enemies are out of range of your AOE attacks.

Every second spent moving is a second not spent killing. Every second spent not killing makes an angel lose her wings.

THINK OF THE ANGELS. (weeps)

With a taunt aura like Invuln, they run up and stick. No manuever required.

Focus, followup, spin, and one lowby filler attack is all that a claw/inv needs. Truly.

I'm siding with mauk2 on this one. On a blaster, defender or other ranged AT knockback is awesome. On a melee toon, not so much. I was teaming not to long ago with a player's MA/ Scrapper who used Crane Kick. ALOT. On the guy my Tank was smashing. Needless to say it was annoying, particularly since this was an Inv/Fire toon with two AoEs I loved hitting everyone with.

Nuts.

If you have a decent amount of +Jump(CJ and Hurdle), you can jump up in the air in the middle of a mob and use Shockwave, minimizing the scatter effect.
