Ummm... I dunno what to say to this. Are you implying that the people who design the interface are the same ones that add products (which are already created) to the database? Or are you, perhaps, implying that adding items to the market somehow requires a change to the market's UI?

Quote:My husband's account just dropped to premium, and we're confused.
We were under the impression tokens were being awarded at the end of the billing cycle. He didn't get his last one.
We were under the impression that dropping to Premium loses you 10 character slots (basic VIP is 12 slots, Premiums get 2 free slots) in total, so if you'd bought or had vet rewards enough for, say, 36 characters on one server, you'd drop to 26. He lost 12. Why is that? Yes, he purchased GR before it became awarded per-VIP.Quote:I have no idea why he didn't get his last reward token.
However, dropping to Premium grants you 2 character slots TOTAL across any servers. (As opposed to taking away a certain amount of character slots, you are simply granted 2.) Then, you also get to unlock any slots that you have purchased separately, or that came as part of a package (i.e Going Rogue). If your husband has not purchased any other slots, he should have FOUR slots available to him, two default slots and two more for having purchased Going Rogue.
In my case, I have 6 extra slots, 4 of which are applied to Freedom already, and 2 on Virtue. If I were to drop to premium, I would be able to access 8 characters, but at least 4 of those would have to be on Freedom, and at least 2 on Virtue.
As for the reward token, they are not awarded at the end of the billing cycle, but rather a more convoluted date that has to do with the amount of time the account has been playable. As mentioned in this post by Zwillinger, it is a little more difficult to pinpoint this date. -
Quote:Transferring SGs to other SERVERS is something that the developers (specifically Positron) have said they would like to see made possible. Beyond that, there is no word on when this may be made possible. As for transferring them between factions, I don't think any mention of that has ever been made, and given that the alignment system already takes SG membership into account, I don't know that I would be too optimistic about it happening.after an hour or so of looking around i could not find an answer, so figgure i would make a post see what anyone elses thoughts are or if i am just blind
when i first started playing CoX i made a Mastermind hitting level 10 i made a super group one thing leading to another and i have a rather mass amount of prestige...
Now i am wanting to switch all of my toons to Blueside but i dont want to leave my SG behind all of the other members agree with me on this and we are using the tip missions to get everyone to rogue
do we know of any plans for transfering SG's over to the other side as it were? or do i need to try to "sell" my SG to someone so that i can buy a chunk of prestige on the blueside so i dont have a net loss of time -
Going to echo Catwhoorg on this one. The only ones who may be able to help are the folks in support. There is no mechanic in place to allow players to rename their SGs. Not sure if it's difficult for support to do, but at the same time, I don't think they want to be inundated with requests to rename SGs either.
If you are forming a new SG, I would play it safe and choose a unique name that you don't think is likely to violate anyone's intellectual properties. Calling your SG "The X-Men" or "Dr. Xaviers School For the Gifted" is probably a bad idea. Of course, some time ago, I saw an two different SGs that were named for TV shows and all the members that I saw lurking around were taken directly from those TV shows. Not sure how long either one of these lasted, of course. -
Quote:I don't think there's any "if" about it. There's no reason, looking at historical evidence, to expect that it would NOT be invaded. As for giving some indication that they are trying, I think that's part of the motivation for trying to rekickstart the "Devs Choice" arcs by selecting new "Devs Choice" arcs on a regular basis.Obviously some from this same niche would tag their farms as story arcs but I very much doubt most farmers would want to. Regardless, it would at least be a step that would, presumably, require very little coding time. If it gets invaded then it does, but at least it would show that they are trying, something they have failed to show for well over a year now.

I can't help but chuckle when I see people gripe about KB because of melee. A vast majority of the KB I have seen in recent teams comes from melee ATs. I really think the answer may be, instead of removing or reducing KB, to add a damage component to it. It would require extensive work on the physics calculations though. How much additional damage should be applied if you slam someone into a wall? How about a crate? How about a floor? Is it different if the floor is carpeted or cement? How about slamming them into the ground covered with snow?
A lot of that could be simplified by not taking so many variables into account, but you would still want to take some things into consideration. Distance and velocity are a bare minimum. Ideally, object type (if not material) would also be taken into account. Even better if said object is made destructible.
If this were done, instead of the endless debate as to whether KB is good or bad, it would be a discussion on the most effective ways to make use of it. -
Quote:I remember the comment you are referring to in one of the dev webcasts, I believe it was made by Positron or perhaps War Witch. If I recall though, they were addressing the question of whether the DVD edition stuff would ever be made into Paragon Rewards (ie. Free).Been asked for many times and we've been told no. If I recall correctly I think this was the topic that we were told that certain people would have to stop working at the company before this would be reconsidered, and that comment was made after I21 went live.
I think part of the issue is the fact that the stuff in the DVD editions was sold as "exclusive". Unlike pre-order items (which are already Paragon Rewards now), there was additional money paid for this "exclusive" access. Those making the decision aren't willing to give those who paid that additional money the proverbial middle finger, nor are they willing to compensate them. -
Quote:I have seen the idea of a flag expressed by others as well, and on the surface, it's a good idea. The problem with a "Story" tag is moderating it. Who would assign the tag? The author? People who play the arc?I have to disagree with you on this. To me it shows that the devs have given the middle finger to the story players and writers. Just looking over the patch notes, and the 6 or 7 MA changes, did I see even ONE thing that helps story players/writers? Nope. Is even a simple fix, such as adding a Story Arc tag to an already existing tag system in the build? Nope. I'm sure stripping buffs and reducing rewards for ambushes took far more coding time that adding a new tag.
If it's the authors and story arcs show up more frequently in search results, then what's to stop farm writers from marking their farms as stories in order to game the system? Have someone in charge of moderating use of the flag? If they are going to do that, why not have someone just lock the farms altogether? Initially, that's what they did, and they realized there was simply no way to keep up with the number of farms being put into the system, so human moderation isn't really an answer either.
Okay, so let's just reverse it. Have players have the ability to flag arcs as farms. The flaw there is, once again, if the story arcs get better search placement, what's to stop other authors (either farm authors OR story authors) from flagging a story arc as a farm just to get better placement for their own arc? Please keep in mind, this is the same system where story arcs already get 1 star ratings for not being farms.
Bottom line, if some people can see someway to game the system, they will. The whole reason the farms are in the MA system to begin with is people looking for the shortest, easiest, path from 1 to 50.
So what's the answer? Haven't figured that one out yet. -
Quote:Assuming that by "normal missions", you mean normal contacts, outside of MA, you still CAN do it on normal missions. The change was specific to MA. What did notice is that this also affects Non-Self Cast buffs and DEBUFFs. Essentially, if you go into an MA arc and get debuffed, you can exit, re-enter, and the debuff will go poof. That's not to say you won't be debuffed AGAIN, but hey...So, because *I* do it on normal missions, as well as story missions, but you don't, it's a farming issue.
It's nearly as good (but not quite as good) as the way missions in general used to work. When you exited, you were instantly healed to full health, so you could duck out for a quick heal at low levels if your rest was on cooldown. -
I agree that the bug is a pain in the butt and has been lingering a bit long now. However, the previous pet bug was far more annoying than this one, and while I did come up with a work around for that bug, it wasn't 100% reliable. For those who don't remember it, if you went through any sort of in-map transition in a mission (ex: Going up/down any elevator or entering the bank in mayhem mission), your pets may or may not actually come through with you. Usually only happened while soloing OR if the MM was the first to go through the transition. I think it was actually caused by a pet going through into a map that had not yet been exposed to the player, but that's simply by observation. Certainly made solo mayhems interesting on my MM though... fight to the bank to rack up extra time, get to the bank and trigger the longbow ambush, duck in the bank to get ready...here they come...wait..where are my pets...aw <bleep!>

I would agree with you except that we know that whatever content involves the target has already been rewritten to account for said character's demise. With Back Alley Brawler, this would mean revamping the starting experience again. While that may get a nod or two, I think it's a bit early to be revamping that already, and BaBs is an integral part of that story. Not only in artwork and story, but he's there fighting in the zone.

Quote:That's really all this is. Heroes teaming up for a task that is of a magnitude that requires it. This is nothing new to CoH. Since their inception, Task Forces (not including MA arcs, Ouroboros Flashbacks, and SSAs, none of which are actually Task Forces) have always required a team in order to start them. That's why Spiderman can team up with The Avengers for a few issues, yet still go back to being Spidey. Because teaming does not always mean fun.
Yep, you can find a group willing to help you start a TF and ask them to leave the team after it starts so you can solo it, but that hasn't changed either. If you can find 11 people to help you start the trial and leave, and you are up to the challenge, go for it. If someone does though, please don't whine that it's too hard to solo. That's already a known fact. It's intentional. It's the way it's designed to work. -
Quote:What you fail to acknowledge is how the developers envisioned the MA system being used. They intended it to be a storytelling device. A way for players to create their own stories, from their own imaginations, and share them with other players. If their original vision had been accurate, MA would have been a boon for the game. It would have been the source of a constant influx of new content coming in from the player base without any additional staff costs for development. At this point Paragon just needs to go "**** it, we lied about being able to level in AE" and remove rewards from AE so that it can become the Ghost Town system they intended it to be from the beginning, to be removed from the game 2-3 issues from now..
The ability to level from 1 to 50 does not mean, nor should it, the ability to level from 1 to 50 in a few hours.
In the beginning, they attempted to identify farms and lock them. For that reason, those who created the farms usually asked that they NOT be rated, it order to avoid calling attention to them. They realized this was a futile effort since weeding them out simply required too many man hours, and was therefore too costly, so they stopped bothering.
This, logically, lead to the conclusion that using MA for farming was perfectly acceptable. This lead to the creation of even more farms. The number of farms far outweighed the number of actual "story" based arcs, so those players who are more interested in story content stopped bothering. A good number of casual story writers slowly gave up as well, as it wasn't worth the time and effort to put together a solid story that no one was going to play. There are a few exceptions to this, but most of the people who loved the idea of creating actual stories have had their hopes dashed. -
My guess is that Arc 7 will bring about the death of Statesman. The name was retired as a dev name after Jack left, the current devs have their red names already, and it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to give any future "newcomers" the name. In the eyes of many players, seeing it reappear may cause nightmares of days gone by. The name is, effectively, retired.
This could be a way to retire the character to match the retirement of the name.
I also agree that this fits with what we know about the Coming Storm. We were told from the beginning that the heroes would be unable to deal with whatever it is because of "other events". The death of a leader would certainly fit that bill. -
Oh, I used to be allergic to chocolate as well. In fact, when I was younger, I was pretty much allergic to EVERYTHING. Including eggs, chocolate, peanut butter, all forms of milk (including my own mother's milk..as an INFANT you pervs!), bees, cats, poison ivy (my reaction was far worse than most), ummm... I am sure there is more that I can't recall right off. The cabinet under my bathroom sink was always stocked with sample cases of liquid benadryl given to us by my pediatrician.

Quote:Time would be my vote.
Power Build Up + Farsight = loads of defense.
The -Recharge from Distortion field adds a large amount of mitigation too. Plop a Lockdown proc in Distortion Field and watch them zzzz. It's lovely. Especially when you stack two.Quote:I vote Demon/Time, simply because I have one and she's a ton of fun. And was able to solo double-spawn trick or treating in the teens, which I count as a big plus on survivability.Quote:Both are great combinations. From a theme standpoint, it's really hard to beat Demons/Termal but I have completely fallen in love with how Time plays and how well rounded it is. Buffs, Debuffs, and even a heal for my fragile minions.
If it was my choice, I'd go Demons/Time but Demons/Termal would be one of my other 2 choices. (Demons/Dark being my third choice)
After reading this thread, however, I think I may have to come up with a good concept for a Demons/Time MM. One more for my list of "toons to create". -
While we are on the topic of problems with the UI, for the love of God, can we fix the issue with mouse movement sporadically triggering an interface click when you stop moving. It is downright frustrating.
For example, it is not uncommon, when teamed, and using the mouse to move, to see "You have quit your team," when I stop moving. Lately, it actually seems to have gotten worse. Twice within the past week, I have suddenly found myself in the "Combine Enhancement" screen with no reasonable explanation of why the UI would register not one, but two, interface clicks while I was moving around with no cursor arrow in sight. -
You can't find it cause I burned it. I am highly allergic to peanut butter, so if I were to accidentally steal a peanut butter cookie while I was stealing all your OTHER cookies, it could be fatal. You wouldn't want my death on your hands, now would you?

Yes.
While, the dev and community teams at Paragon Studios definitely enjoy poking a little fun with fake news on April Fool's Day, this is November, so that's not the case here.
Quote:I swear I thought they'd learned not to do this stuff.
Sigh.
This should serve as an indication that whatever they are patching is something that needed to be addressed quickly. As there are no glaringly obvious major bugs directly related to most recent patch, this probably means they discovered some sort of exploitable hole which they felt the need to plug quickly. This is further evidenced by the fact that there haven't been any "Check Out What We're Giving You Today" announcements, as far as I have seen. -
I understand your pain. Personally though, I have always find it substantially more annoying to have melee ATs with powersets that focus on Knockback instead of knockdown, and we are talking straight out of the box. Continuously knocking your own target away from you so that you have to chase after them seems a bit counterproductive.

Top of my list is actually the two extra Enhancement trays. Beam Rifles is a "maybe" as are some of the scaling enhancement sets. Rocket Board and backpack are not really priorities for me at the moment. The enhancement boosters just don't seem to give enough of a boost to make that much difference. With all the characters getting a freespec, I don't see an immediate need for unslotters either, so will buy those only when and if I see the need.

I was having this same problem, but was also unable to login to my Master Account. After I was able to get access to my Master Account, I was able to reset my game account password to gain access to the forums. Like some others posting here, my game account and master account used different passwords, and they still do. So to confirm, you do NOT need to set your Master Account password and game account password to the same password. It appears that something in the forum auth list got corrupted, so simply resetting (or even re-entering) the password through the Master Account panel seems to do the trick.

If I am not mistaken, that is the same account wide badge that was given at the end of May during the first Praetorian invasion event. Looks like this is a "second chance" for folks who didn't have active subscriptions at the time.

One thing to keep in mind in regards to crafting is that it was added to the game relatively recently. Unlike many MMOs, crafting in CoX is not skill-based. Anyone can craft anything, provided you have the recipe and the materials. There is no real reason to sit and skill grind for hours on end. The single exception to this is if you are trying to earn the crafting badges.
Some of the drawbacks you mention actually have work-arounds. For example, there is a vet reward that gives access to the /vault command that lets you open up the vault from anywhere. This makes the distance between crafting stations and the vault reserve a non-issue. Similarly, if you acquire the crafting badges, you can earn the ability to summon up a portable crafting table anywhere (and anyone around you can use it).
Another solution to the problem is the one I use. Create a small SG base, drop in a vault and a crafting table right next to each other. Now, not only is it convenient, but you can craft without the noise and lag from powers being spammed all around you, bots clanking around, demons roaring, etc.
