Store Item request

I had put in the is request on the costumes thread but here is probably more appropriate:

I would love to see the CoH/CoV DVD edition items put up on the paragon market. this way those of us that want those items aren't stuck trying to find an unused serial code on ebay and paying more then is needed.

I know some one might be thinking "if you wanted those items back when they came out why didn't you get the DVD editions?" and quite simply my computer at the time Did not have a DVD rom drive and i couldn't afford a standard and DVD edition. So i would now like the option to the in game items in the online market.

Been asked for many times and we've been told no. If I recall correctly I think this was the topic that we were told that certain people would have to stop working at the company before this would be reconsidered, and that comment was made after I21 went live.

This isn't an issue about players shooting the idea down.

well I'd like to see a dev post as to why not. cause honestly at this point they loosing out on an opportunity to make money, they have given away DVD edition prize packs for free why not sell them and make some money? Cause I just looked on Ebay and i can get it for about $5-$10 + $5 s&h new so really they could offer it at $5 for in game items only and come out on top since there is no S&H

Well that's not gonna happen. We were lucky to get that much of an answer. Being told that the people that make the decision would have to leave the company before the policy gets changed is a clear indication that it's a management decision from somewhere higher on the corporate ladder than the devs. It's out of their hands, and they aren't in a position to demand that their bosses justify their decisions to satisfy a disgruntled customer.

If you can get it that cheaply on Ebay then buy it. The cheapest I've seen the collector's edition sell for is $99 bucks.

And personally I find the companies continued refusal to sell some things to be proof that they aren't solely motivated by making money. If their only concern was nickel and diming their customers things like this would already be on the market.

Yea, in all likely hood when I do have an extra $15-$20 if they are still around I will probably get one, thing is if that is the case that some corporate boss is (word rhyming with rock) blocking them from putting it up for sale I guess I'd like to hear that from a dev... yes I am aware that is not very bloody likely, Does change what i would like to see :P

thing is while I get the explanation given, I have no idea how old that intel is and if things, even the reason why its not for sale may have changed or if that is completely accurate.

Also I have a propensity for being kind of a dick when I want to be, and if I was told by a dev "We can't sell the DVD item pack in game items on the store cause some one in corporate, doesn't want to allow it." I'd be more then happy to locate the company Info get a petition send it directly to corporate and bug them a little, maybe they can't question there bosses motives, but I can. :P

Any way then what I'd like to know and maybe I will have to contact a dev directly, is if I do buy a DVD edition of CoV second hand brand new still in the box from some one on Ebay that using said serial code will be okay, I'd hate to get in trouble or to not be able tou use the serial code with the new system in place since my major motivation would be the in game items.

Using the old box set codes should be fine, as long as you don't use 2 codes from the same edition on an account. They don't stack so you can't get 60 days free time by using 2 CoV codes.

Now some of the perks from the old editions don't apply anymore. I don't think you get the 2 extra character slots like you used to get with the old Going Rogue Edition, and I don't think you can get the free booster pack from the Architect Edition because boosters don't exist anymore. But you should still get the in game perks from the collectors editions.

And I believe using those codes on a Free account is an automatic upgrade to Premium once the free 30 days expires.

The only reason the collectors edition is that expensive is because of the "real world stuff" that comes with it i.e. the hero click figure.

You can buy the City of Heroes Deluxe (EU version) for under Ten English Pounds (I paid less than £6) and the nice people in Customer Support will apply the code to your account (since the web upgrade no longer works for these). The Deluxe version has everything the collectors edition has except the Statesman Hero Click, I believe.

PS: My account is a NA account, in case you are wondering.

PPS: Yes, I bought it solely so my Ice Controller could Power Slide

I remember the comment you are referring to in one of the dev webcasts, I believe it was made by Positron or perhaps War Witch. If I recall though, they were addressing the question of whether the DVD edition stuff would ever be made into Paragon Rewards (ie. Free).

I think part of the issue is the fact that the stuff in the DVD editions was sold as "exclusive". Unlike pre-order items (which are already Paragon Rewards now), there was additional money paid for this "exclusive" access. Those making the decision aren't willing to give those who paid that additional money the proverbial middle finger, nor are they willing to compensate them.

THANK YOU!!

There was something niggling at the back of my mind saying I was forgetting something about that conversation. I just couldn't remember that the question was about making the perks Paragon Rewards.

I hope they do one day offer the perks in the store for people that want it.

i mostly only want to get the coh collector edition for the badge that comes with it lol, but i cant justify spending $100 to get a badge

personally i think the badge from that (VIP/destined one) should be awarded to you if you have a VIP account (ie make it a tier 9 VIP paragon reward)

the other stuff in the collector edition (heroclix figures, ect) i dont want anyway

yea I in no way would ever ask them to give to us for free (as a paragon reward) that which others had to pay extra for. I am willing to pay

As I said above everything from the Collectors edition (except the Hero click) is also available in the Deluxe edition which can be had for under £10, probably under $10. That includes the VIP Badge.

how do i buy something in UK moneys with my american moneys? O_o

also, i think their reasons are ridiculous for keeping the in-game perks like badge, costume pieces, slide power, from players even if each could be an individual purchase of actual money...

to me their withholding it is lame and elitist and unfair to other players who honestly couldn't obtain or use a dvd copy at the time, seven years ago, but have been playing for just as long or almost as long.

to leave it as forever unavailable and say "you can buy it online still" [at outrageous prices or across the ocean] is a cop-out excuse to justify the decision. saying that those certain devs would have to stop working for the company... really disappoints me.

it's like saying "we wont give you buttcapes because they clip." everything clips. just do it. uuuuuuugghhhhhhh.

If you use a credit card (which you would need to do anyway in order to order online), it automatically does a currency conversion based on the current exchange rates at the time of your purchase.

You might want to check that you can apply an EU code to a US account before buying. I'm guessing you can't.

nope, Amazon wont let me purchase it from overseas because of shipping. O_o

equals: i cant reasonably get it.

equals: super lame that the particular devs have such qualms about not keeping those who got it so long ago favored above the rest of the player base.

What part of it's not the devs decision do you not understand. The decision to keep those items exclusive comes from some person or persons above the devs in the corporate ladder.

Nothing bi-polar about it. What I personally would like to see happen has nothing to do with the fact that the devs have told us that the decision to keep those perks exclusive won't change until certain people at the company no longer work there. The only thing I can do is add my voice in support of the suggestion and hope that whomever makes that decision at NCSoft changes their mind or leaves the company.

Edit: Oh and as an FYI I personally hate the policy where management and executives remain anonymous and let their subordinates deal with the brown smelly end of the stick. I've been fired from several CS jobs for giving upset customers the direct office numbers and names of the people who made unpopular decisions.

Corporate is always worthy of disdain.

City of Heroes Deluxe Version on Amazon

Ideal for starting a new account. If you want to upgrade your account you have to go through Customer Support because (as I said above) the web site upgrade no longer works for these items. Customer Support with want the serial code for your original account and a scan of the serial code from the box.
Heya Jagged,

When you called customer support, did they apply the EU code to the same American account and upgrade the one that you've been playing [which is what it sounds like but i just want to confirm again]? OR did they tell you to make an entirely new CoH account under your NC master account?

cuz that's what they just told me lol. They verified that my code was good and EU, but he said that the only way he saw to use it was to either create a new CoH account, or upgrade a Eu Trial account. Which makes sense but it sounded like you or the support member who helped you found a way around that.

is there any more information you could give me of your experience, who you talked to, or what exactly they did, or a reference number, or something? it would be greatly appreciated because the guy i spoke to said all he could do was walk me through making a new account.

thanks
