Quote:I have used in the past a GTS 250 (good for 1280x720 game rez, can do full HD but need to tweak a few settings down)I saw that thread, but I was hoping for a more specific recommendation.
A GTX460, works nicely, does run a bit hot though, so make sure that your cooling is decent
GTX560: This is my current card... i upgraded my cooling as well, as i find it hard to hit above 60c with everything up. Will get around 30fps at full HD resolution (I dual screen as standard so the game gets shoved into windowed mode), and with most "ultra mode" settings up to average i get a decent frame rate...
The one thing that i do turn off though to keep a more stable framerate is the bloom/ambient occlusion/depth of field effects...
And i keep AA to x2, that helps just enough to make things look a bit smoother, without really stressing out the graphics card. -
How many *normal* veteran badges do you have (not counting the yearly ones)...

Quote:I normally close the launcher fully, and then restart it and then hit update...I just want to log on! I don't know why it is going so slowly for me, it is at 5 KBs/sec and is at 1%.
Most of the time this resolves the issue and i am then able to patch up at full speed...
If that doesnt help me, then i know i have exceeded my limits for my ISP, and will go at a slower speed for a while (still enough to play the game though) -
So after that wall of text all that you are asking for is a more "muscle defined" base pattern option (similar to what males can actually get with the "muscled" option), because I feel that with the exception of a "body builder" physique the game covers most "sports physiques" for females fairly well (unless of course you wanting the 7ft tall small/flat chested female...)
Granted a smaller chest option can help on this front as well to help with the impression of better "weight" distribution. -
Quote:Look at Nanny Flambeau (Pratorian Version)"Is that what a fat lady looks like?" Without having seen your character, I'm going to go with "no," because you can't actually make a fat lady in City of Heroes
You can make one that doesn't look like she could catch wind and drift away, not one that's actually "fat."
And the *edit* Steampunk version
((These are not my creations, but my girlfriends))
From what i can tell, the "Huge" body size can be used quite nicely for this, although you are stuck with male costume pieces, there is still *some* possibility of using Huge for female characters -
I generally do this if a website that i have used recently starts playing up...
1) Clear Cache
2) Use different browser
3) Go to 1) if problem still arises
Once i have ran out of browsers/computers, i then start complaining about the website via their support. -
Quote:Which strangely enough is why we had the *VAST* majority of the "annoying downtime" before Freedom actually started (see the previous 2 weeks).Sensible or not, understandable or not, it does not change the point that it is probably bad timing since players that left the game are returning.
This was not the time to be having these problems. I do not expect players to be as understanding as you are.
Todays downtime came with a 200MB patch, which to me at least, signifies one of 3 things..
1) New signature Story arc being loaded
2) The new Halloween Trial being loaded up ahead of schedule to be started over the weekend
3) A new power set being loaded up (Street Justice more than likely)
Of course, we cant get that stuff downloaded and the servers updated without a small bit of downtime... -

If you right click on the Game entry, you can select "repair/consistency check" and that should repair any damaged files (even if they are inside the piggs)

Quote:Agreed, and i know Rock/metal/goth music fans *love* "Rocky Horror" Themed nights at dance music orientated nightclubs even though they dislike the music that gets played.... strangely enough this is normally the night where the Rockers/Goths go out to the mainstream nightclubs, and then have their own "Rocky Horror" nights a few days later at their regular Rock Club2: Goth chicks are apparently "hawt." And by "hawt," I of course mean widely fetishized. Incidentally, Desdemona wouldn't look at all out of place at a goth club.
((Noticed the above from working in rock/dance clubs as well as doing promo work for them)) -
Quote:Yes you can do this, although you would need his master account login details to buy them for him (so that is the element of trust here). At some point, I'd like to possibly buy points for him just because it's a nice thing to do, but I have to ask - can this be done without actually registering my card or PayPal account to his PlayNC master account? Not only can I not actually do that (and Support couldn't help), but I don't want to do more than one purchase with said card.
I know Steam lets me make one-off purchases for in-game goods without having to have a "card on file," but does NCsoft allow this?
You dont need to put a card (or even paypal) on file before hand... i have had friends pay a month sub for me here and there with their cards and also via paypal... and none of the time have the details stuck (because i unticked the "keep card on file option")
To buy points though, once you are logged into your NCSoft master account, click "City of Heroes" on the right hand side of the screen.. to take you to the CoX account page, and then you will see the option to "buy more points".
Once you click that link, you choose how many points you want to buy, click next and then you have several payment options...
I am in the UK and the options are as follows:
Credit Card
Credit Card on file
Paypal
Paysafecard
Worldpay
((Payment options may vary according to region though)) -
Quote:Well as you didnt state what "not that long ago" meant, it is actually hard to qualify...Actually your figure for how long MMOs last has been changing quite rapidly.
As far as my definition of "Not that long ago". Yeah, I guess you have no idea.
I mean, NCsoft actually tried the hybrid style of transactions with one other game, and it closed "not that long ago" (granted coming up to 21 months now)...
Hell, World of Warcraft launched "not that long ago" in the grand scheme of "graphical online roleplaying games" (evidence stretching back all the way to 1985 with LucasArts "Habitat" title), but it is still a 7 year old title.
But saying that NCsoft picked up CoX "not that long ago"... when it covers over half the life of the game... is more than a little misleading i would imagine. -
Just wondering but do you have chat logging enabled in the game and do you use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus software?
If you do, disable chat logging or put the City of Heroes folder into your "excluded list" for Microsoft Security Essentials...
That might help resolve your problem -
-
Just wondering, but how long does it take for the game to crash when you have the launcher running, and when you have the launcher *closed* (not even sat in the task bar)?
I ask this, as i actually havent suffered this problem yet (have had others at one time or another, but not this one specifically) -
Quote:/lfg should do it, but only if you are already queued up using the LFG interface apparently (http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Communication_Channels)Unfortunately this was predicted months ago. IMO the lockdown on freemium talking is a pretty serious disconnect with common sense. Of course they are are going to talk in the Help channel. That is if they bother continuing with the game after discovering they can't talk (I wouldn't if it had happened to me in the games I've free-played).
Anyway for some reason there actually is a filter for a LFG channel but no actual mechanic for chatting on it that I know of. -
Quote:Believe it or not, there are actually quite a few costume pieces that are *not* free to VIP players, so you would still have to buy them if you wanted them.yeah , the idea of selling costumes , auras is nice .....but not worth it
why buy an costume set while u are f2p? if u are really interested in having fun go VIP and u get 400 points that u can spend on whatever u wanted in the 1 place.....
- Barbarian Costume (36 pieces)
- Magic Costume (25 pieces)
- Animal Costume (18 pieces)
- Cyborg Costume (16 pieces)
- Mutant Costume (18 pieces)
- Steampunk Costume (43 pieces)
- Superscience Costume (21 pieces)
- Valkyrie Costume (20 pieces)
- Vanguard Costume (23 pieces)
- Wedding Costume (10 pieces)
- Origins Capes (5 pieces)
- Circle of Thorns Costume (12 pieces)
Those are *not* available from the get go for new VIP subscribers (there are also all of the Aura's and Capes pieces to go with it on top)
BTW, the 400 points that you get each month as a VIP customer...
That will buy 1 of the above sets.
For every 1200 points that you buy, you get a Reward Token as well, so that means (for example) that by buying all of the above costume sets you have actually unlocked Global Chat channels... Hell buy a few of the power sets, and you are 1/4 of the way there as well... Buying all 6 power sets costs the same as buying all of the Costume sets
(Note: Beam Rifle is a "Pay for" Power, it is not free to VIP customers)
As i said, i do believe that at least at the start a VIP customer is probably better off, but there is still enough stuff on the market to make it viable for a new player to start off.
Hell, with the exception of "Incarnate" content, you can pretty much get by with buying everything off the market that you need as you need it, and you would probably end up saving money in the long run... -
Quote:Well, you have to remember that you can actually end up spending a bit on costume pieces (if you wanted) as a "f2p" and end up with this as an extra... it really is a decision of "how do you want to get there".lol oh well....who as F2p is going to go as far as t3? for the $ u spend going up to T3 u better go VIP for some months :S
Hell, just buying a few costume sets/aura's/power set and you are getting close to automatically having this as an extra...
I personally think that actually just going "Subscription" is better in the long run (at least until you get to the higher tiers and most stuff will be available when you are "premium status"), -
Quote:At Tier 2 (First purchase of Paragon Points OR having a retail code applied to your account- Two Reward Tokens Total) all Premiums gainthis
anyway can premiums use goblal channels? tells?
or are just as restricted as f2p?
Additional Chat Channel (Tells)
At Tier 3 ( $45 above Tier 2 - Five Reward Tokens Total) all Premiums gain
Access to all Chat Channels (Global, Broadcast and Request) -
I would go with what Hyperstrike said, as in "choose one of the systems and then start knocking components off/downgrading them" to save money.
You dont *need* liquid cooling, so you can save £23 just by choosing the stock fan option...
The one thing you will have to remember with the CyberPower stuff... you have to pay extra for a monitor and your operating system on top (so add roughly £160 to the price) -
But a Wi-Fi adaptor is an inexpensive extra (and you can get USB versions as well)
-
Quote:Even easier questions... how much cash have you got available to spend, and have you ever put a computer system together, and would you feel comfortable doing so?if i bought this pc
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/acer-x...52257-pdt.html
would i be able to run CoX on recommended settings without crashes?
or do i need to get better specs etc?
Or would any of the below PCs run on recommended also?

Quote:I remember pulling something similar on my Fire/Psi dom, who i was half way through respeccing when i got a call from friends over MSN to join in on the LRSF...I should point out that other than that one mind dom, everything else can be just reasonably good, although one really strong tanker or brute (or lots of defensive buffs) is also very helpful. I actually got MoLRSF on a blaster that wasn't range capped or anything stupidly powerful, and given how that run went I could have easily gone in with an SO build without being a detriment to that team.
I agreed to it, and when i got there, discovered it was a "Master Of" run.
I actually forgot that i had about 1/2 my powers actually empty slotted with nothing, and the remaining were half slotted... somehow we managed to have zero deaths... even after accidentally pulling the whole group of heros (Statesman couldnt kill me!).
It was only when people were posting their recepie drops that i chimed in with "I just realised that I did that with half my powers slotted, and we still didnt die"...
Just proves more than anything else, that 95% of what a character does is actually fuelled by the person at the keyboard and not what the character is slotted with. -
How much money are you willing to spend (give a "would like to spend" and an "absolute maximum"... somtimes people are just unable to spend the extra 30 or 40 to get something that is considerably better, other people are willing (but are wary) of spending more than their comfort zone allows..
I would definately recommend getting a new PSU... 250 Watts will end up limiting you possibly more than you would like (especially if you get the "upgrade" itch)
