Really weird random slowdowns - memory leak?

Hi. As the title says, every now and then I'm getting really weird slowdowns. As in, my framerate drops to less than 10 and stays there (It's usually 30+ even in missions) Aside from that the game runs fine, just.... really really slowly. And it persists through restarting the game and all, the only way I've found to fix it is restarting the computer entirely.

Usually happens when the game starts up though on one occasion it happened while I was playing, and usually if I've been using the computer all day beforehand. Especially it seems to happen more often if I've been watching movies or tv shows beforehand. But it only seems to happen with CoH - I can quit after it happens and start something up another game and that'll run fine.

Anyone have any ideas? The fact that it only seems to happen when I've been using the computer for a while would suggest memory leak to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was something else.

Just wondering but do you have chat logging enabled in the game and do you use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus software?

If you do, disable chat logging or put the City of Heroes folder into your "excluded list" for Microsoft Security Essentials...

That might help resolve your problem

I have had something similar ... but for me the slowdown only happens when I go through a door but not change zones. IE the portal between the vanguard base and the warzone proper, entering/ exiting the university building, anything where you go through a doorway but do not physically change zones. I can change zones/ enter missions/ bases with no problems at all. The easy way I've gotten to kick it out of the slow mo mode is to go into options and move the FSAA slider. Just moving it kicks it out of the slow mode and yes the slow mode happens no matter how much or how little FSAA I have it set to.

It seems this is becoming the nVidia problem the crashes were for AMD/ATI... :-S

Turning down world details, and turning off ambient occlusion can help alot for slowdowns realted to graphics, as can reducing shadows. You both might want to try that to begin with.

Rebel, Toggle.com, that seems a little suspicious with some mixed reports of malware, trojans, etc?

Vlad, I seem to remember an issue with needing to force FSAA within nvidia control panel, or something similiar. Might wanna check guru3d.com forums and see if it's realated.
