You (in general), of course, may play the game any way you wish, as long as it does not interfere with others' enjoyment as well.

Don't assume: it makes an @ss of u & me.

There have been many times when I was simply testing out some new enhancies or looking for build holes, and an unasked for buff will interfere with that process. I will not thank you for your unkind kindness.

Also, for those who are saying go to instanced missions, not all missions are instanced. "Hunt x number of such-and-so" mishes are not instanced.

When I'm on a TEAM, I welcome all buffs. And as a kin, I hand buffs out to teammates indiscriminately unless otherwise requested. If I see a solo hero seeming to struggle with a group on the street, I ASK if they would like help... always.

    This.

For the most part I don't mind buffs in combat situations, and like Impish I ask if buffs are wanted.

IF I do resort to doing drive-by's then I restrict myself to dropping inspirations on the person I see in need. That way they are free to use them or not as they see fit, and it doesn't interfere with what they are doing.

This whole silly argument could be rectified if players had the ability to block buffs.
    • Accept all buffs
    • Allow buffs from teammates only
    • Block all buffs
Then players could choose the setting they like and no one would be bothered again. And since Fortune Teller can be blocked we know that a feature like this isn't beyond the mechanics of the game.

Activate the code on your second account and subscribe for 1 month. Then your main account will be credited 1 month free time. So actually you didn't loose any money.

Then use an toon on the second account to transfer inf, put toons from your main account into your SG.

Best of all you can redo this every 90 days as an "invite a friend back", and the second account will also be live on Free weekend promotions.

The second account can also be used to help pad your main account with badges as well. Such as PvP badges, mentoring, or healing.

The OP really doesn't need to go to all that trouble since his son already has an account. If he knows his sons login and password he can use that account to do the invites and transfers.

Just because he uses gadgets doesn't mean he's tech.

You are born to normal human parents. Except you can trow ice. Due to a MUTATION of your genes, you have super powers. If you pick up a flying disc to get around, that doesn't mean that the source of your powers - your ORIGIN - has changed. It just means you have a flying disc.

You are a normal being from Planet Bubar. Normal beings from Planet Bubar can jump long distances on Earth because their planet has a heavier gravity, meaning Earth's lighter gravity lends itself to longer and higher jumps. Normal beings from Planet Bubar can manipulate others mental state. You are a natural origin, because every one of your race/species can do this. As another example, a demon could be considered natural origin.

You are a normal being, but utilize gadgets and other items as almost the SOLE REASON you can be considered a super hero. Iron Man, for example. You are technology origin, because if you took away those gadgets, you wouldn't be a super hero. Note that weapons can count as technology or natural, depending on level of skill or what kind of weapon it is.

Your power comes from a magic sword, an amulet that grants magic powers, or you utilize spells and scrolls to do your job. You are, obviously, magic origin. If you take away those things, you no longer can be a super hero.

The Joker does not have any super powers. He fell into the chemicals, but that only altered his appearance. It didn't give him any powers. He uses guns and explosives and sheer ingenue. He's a flippin' psychopath. He is natural origin or tech, depending on your take on the character.

All the things you describe can be easily RP'd and do not need to be attached to a game mechanic. The only thing Origins does in the current version of this game is decide what starting temp power you get at level one, and restrict what stores/contacts you can buy DO's/SO's from.

In fact I have characters with multiple origins like my character the Toxophilite GeoAdept whose dual origins are linked to his primary and secondary powersets of earth control and archery. And even tho Archery is his secondary power he was practising it long before his latent ability to control the earth manifested.

However someone that does recognise it has every right to petition it if they feel it's inappropriate. Then it's up to the GM's to decide if the gen-stick is warranted

When we choose to use a risque name we have no right getting upset if someone else doesn't share our sense of humor. We know the rules and we have no one to blame but ourselves. It's our decision what name we try to get past the censors.

I think this would be hilarious. I can already see some idiot changing his Origin and then has to sell all of his DO's and SO's for a fraction of what he spent on them because they no longer match his Origin. Then he comes here to complain about it.

    They could accomplish this as:

A Day Job temp power or accolade that allows for a longer duration per duration spent logged out at a specific destination

A single-use craftable power with a set duration.

[Or through a permanent portal at a specific location... maybe Pocket D?]

[The player would need to have an open character slot on the destination server]

At the end of the duration, the player's toon would be auto-shifted back into their home server (unless they are in an instanced mission; then the auto-shift would occur once the mission was exited)

Logging off would also auto-shift the player back.

Shifted players would not be able to create or join S/VGs or Coalitions; or alter their current S/VG or Coalition.

Shifted toons would have their names temp-tagged with their home server ID (ie. A toon named Jack Spad from Infinity that shifts over to Justice would have their name appear as Inf.Jack Spad) [Actually, having all toons tagged as such, as a regular thing and then just making that tag visible while shifted might be easier].

This would enable players to, hopefully, take their favorite toons to various player events that may be spread out between different servers or allowing their toons the chance to PvPummel players from different servers without having to commit to a permanent move each time they wish to do so.
Sure. Why not, and I bet they can even program an automatic $10. charge to your credit card for each server you transfer to.

    Lifetime Access

Income is worthless if you're letting it sit in a bank account. Do you know why banks give you interest? As incentive to keep lots of money in their bank. Because if the bank (or rather, banks in general) doesn't have a bunch of money stored up in various people's accounts, then they can't function properly. They can't give out big loans to people (or other banks), who then pay the bank back, with interest. That interest - the interest on loans being paid back - is how the banks (as businesses) make money, among other endeavors depending on the bank.

What are you planning to do with this bank account that is building up "subscription fees" in interest? What are you going to pay the programmers, customer service representatives, and support staff with? What's going to back further development of the game?

When an MMO is first released, someone has been spending a lot of money on the game for several years in order to get the game created in the first place. whoever is playing the role of financial backer to the game is in the red when the game is released. A herd of people flocking in purchasing expensive lifetime subscriptions helps put the financial backer back in the black, while subscriptions keep the game afloat.

Expensive lifetime subscriptions make monetary sense when the game is first released. Starting up a lifetime subscription program 5 years later does not. Anyone with the City Traveler badge (60 months = 5 years) has paid somewhere between $660 and $900 in subscription fees alone, depending on what subscription plan they're on. If they had bought a $250 lifetime subscription in 2004, NCSoft would be out over $400, for that one player.

Consider if CoH started a lifetime subscription program tomorrow. People would buy it, and NCSoft would get a spike in revenue. Which would then drop like a stone. If CoH lasts another 5 years (not improbable; Ultima Online is still active), it would be unlikely that NCSoft would be making a profit off the game, with so many people playing for free.

If CoH shuts down on Friday, a lifetime subscription plan starting tomorrow would be a great idea for NCSoft, financially. Hell, it'd still be a good idea if CoH is going to continue for another whole year before shutting down. But since neither of those events seem likely, a lifetime subscription at this late date in the game's lifespan can only hurt.
    This.

Make this a feature, but find some other associated feature to connect it to apart from Veteran awards.
    How's this for a compromise . . .

Maybe they could make two versions of this. The one that everyone has access to could be a temp power that makes a random selection from the players list of unlocked gladiators, while the Vet reward version allows the vet to select the one he wants from his list of unlocked gladiators.

The temp power version could be part of a future booster pack.

.. I don't know many people who use gladiators for Arena. This may be a fun way to recycle the concept of earning combat pets.

There was an SG badge bug about a year ago where every single SG badge was unlocked. If people were aware it was happening and were capable of taking advantage of it they were able to grab beacons and restricted base items. You could even get things that were restricted by faction. After they fixed the bug any base items purchased remained.

That's exactly what some people don't like about it. The vet reward system is unbiased and fair. No one can manipulate it to their advantage, and no one gets special treatment.

And that's what this really boils down to. Some people want to be able to go up to long time vets and wave the reward they bought in their faces because it will make them feel special and superior to the veterans that have been here longer.

Doesn't that last short statement sound stupid? It sounds almost as stupid as this.

Because it gives the wrong impression. The statement at that time was made to address the issue of refunds, and when that part isn't included it subtly changes the context of what was said and why.

The devs rarely come out and say, "No. This will never happen", and this was one of those times. What they were saying was that even if one of those two situations occurred the purchase of server transfers are final. Refunds will not happen.

If there hadn't been a lot of wild speculation and arguments going on odds are they wouldn't have even made that statement because to most rational people it's obvious. Of course rationality isn't often seen on the internet.

Just curious, would my response have sat better with you if I had said "Not entirely correct, what they actually said . . ." instead of "No. What they actually said . . ."

If so, I'll try to keep that in mind for the future.

No. What they actually said in their warning was that IF at some point in the far and distant future there ever came a time that the game was changed to a serverless enviroment the company would not refund any money spent on server transfers.
