Summoning random gladiators for PVE
Future Vet Reward - Your years spent in the City/Isles have earned you an incredible repoire with nearly every organization, hero and villain. Each day (24 hour recharge), you are able to summon a nearby entity to assist you and your team. (temp pet would be a random roll going off of the gladiator pets your character has already earned - you'd always get something different).
.. I don't know many people who use gladiators for Arena. This may be a fun way to recycle the concept of earning combat pets. |
I've been asking for this off and on for years so /signed.
While I like the basic premise of this idea, and would like to see it implemented, making it a veteran reward is going to make a lot of non-veterans angry. Veteran rewards are supposed to be useful, but should never be useful to the extent that other people will decry a veteran award as unfairly distributed.
Make this a feature, but find some other associated feature to connect it to apart from Veteran awards.

Maybe they could make two versions of this. The one that everyone has access to could be a temp power that makes a random selection from the players list of unlocked gladiators, while the Vet reward version allows the vet to select the one he wants from his list of unlocked gladiators.
The temp power version could be part of a future booster pack.
How's this for a compromise . . .

I personally like gladiator matches, but nobody glad matches. So their usefullness as of now is absolutely zero. We need something like this to make them at least 1/2 way useful from time to time. I would say make it where the pet always stays alive and zones with you unless you.
1. Die
2. DC/log
3. Pet Dies
I would like this to be part of some sort of "Faction" system.

I like this idea, but I think it has potential to be OP. Especially now pets can travel through zones.
Freak tanks, Shivans, Night Widows, Longbow Wardens, ... are all quite strong npcs, especially when buffed and healed by players. Now have 8 of them on a full team.
So some restrictions should be in order. e.g.: mak them unbuffable, put them on a short timer, ...
(On a note: I personally feel the Summon Shivan temp power is rediculously overpowered and wouldn't mind seeing it removed from the game.)

I like this suggestion, but as True Metal said, they can be OP.
Make them unbuffable and maybe weaken them depending on their rank? Sort of how henchmen work, I.E Tier One Henchies are always one level below you etc.

The Devs obviously disagree with your take on the Shivans.
Given what you have to do to get one and all...
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

*Ahem*
In any case, here's another thought. Being able to select any NPC from the gladiator list you have is going to end with everybody always picking one specific pet, E.G. the one they think is the most powerful. At the same time, we can't have a system that creates overdpendency on the power to much. What if somebody specifically makes a hero or villain with the least possible amount of gladiator badges, and then specifically farms all of the boss-and-beyond gladiator badges in order to throw off an equally random selection process? A Shivan Decimator having the same chance of appearing as, oh say...A Lucent of Light is somewhat disconcerting, to say the least. Implement a system that acts more like a lottery, where getting NPCs gets harder the stronger they are.
Minions should stand the highest chance of being selected. All minions should stand the same chance at being selected as another minion. They should have a higher chance of being selected than lieutenants and bosses. They should be selected within the realm of 75% to 80% of the time.
Lieutenants, while not appearing as often as minions, should still appear frequently enough to expect them. All Lieutenants should stand less of a chance than being selected than minions, but a higher chance of being selected than bosses. The chance of any one lieutenant being selected should be somewhere around the 15% to 20% range.
Bosses should appear rarely. That is to say, somewhere within the region of 5% to 10% of the time. This way, they do occasionally appear, and when they do, fun is had by all. But most of the time, not so.

But really, what are you saying? That a team 8 buffed up night widows wouldn't be OP? Use them in gladiator matches, they demolish everything you pit against them.
