    I'm sure your wondering why.

Here we go, "My internet sucks." I'm puting that out there as a given. However in comparison to other MMO's I.E. EVE Online, Age Of Conan, Guild Wars, Star Wars Galaxies EMU. The COH updater SUCKS! In the above games I can start them up and be in game in 10 min at most, COH tho? An HOUR IF I'm lucky and that's useing the only workaround I know of. (That being opening about 30/35 insistence's of the updater I can open about 150 before I run out of memory but that just slows down my internet more.)

As I understand it and please corect me if I'm wrong, but all its doing when you launch it is checking for an update. First for the updater itself, then the game. It will also verify the integrity of all the files in case of a crash. (A utility that could be locally done with out an active connection). We know when a patch will hit its posted on the forums and on the server down time page for those like me who are living in the dark ages in the middle of nowhere being able to skip the updater would be a tremendous help.

Missalnous info I don't know where else to put.

Why can't I get a good conection? It's called "Ping" or "Latency" I have Satellite Internet when my computer asks the update server "Hea anything new man?" That mesage makes a 10,000 mile long round trip from my house in VA to the Satellite siting in orbit and then to Kentucky and then on there fiber-optic/T3/whatever line back to the east cost prolby NYC to the Freedom server the server says "na man go on throu" Or if I had crashed it says "How long have you had these droids?" No wate that's not what it ... any way it checks you papers and then sends the message back... to Kentucky back up to space and then back down to my house in VA. It takes to long, literally the speed of light is to slow. For what ever reason this action is timed and if your computer takes to long it doesn't connect.

Well I don't have this problem I don't think the dev's should wast there time on this. Yea your right I just thought I'd put it out here and try to drawl some attention to the fact that the COH updater is showing its age.

I don't expect this to ever happen. I can dream tho. As I sit here watching the connecting #'s go up, I dream of a better future.

    All of them better futures...

Just an FYI, your numbers are off. The satellites you are referring to are 22,223 miles above the earth. They have to be that high to achieve geosynchronus orbit. So a round trip would be 44,446 miles.

What makes me laugh is that I see someone has used the tag I created and I wonder if they know what it really means. When I first coined it I told Power what it means in the thread I first used it in.

Keep up the great work posting coherent suggestions Power.

We are going to be able to bring Masterminds over from villains when Going Rogue goes live and that's the closest you are going to get to this idea.

Gullywash. This isn't a roleplaying game, it's a graphical representation of a roleplaying game, and thus the importance of visual aesthetic is, well, unimaginable.

Would you prefer a sheet of paper, a pencil, a set of oddly shaped dice, and if your lucky a miniature you painted yourself that represents your character? Cuz I still play those games.

This is a roleplaying game. He can learn to use his imagination.

When my Ninja uses his temp power it's a shuriken.
When my Cowboy uses it it's a Bowie knife.
When my Indian uses it it's a tomahawk.
When my Soldier uses it it's a K-bar.
When my dirty fighting mutant uses it it's rock salt, dirt, ground glass.
When my Faerie/elf/whatever uses it it's faerie dust.
When my cyborgs/robots/pwoer armor guys use it it's an arc-thrower

The OP's suggestion is that the devs fix his brain. That's not their responsibility it's his. If the only thing he can think of is that it looks like flinging feces then he needs to see a therapist to figure out why that's the only thing he can imagine.

Heh heh. Yeah but as one reads the subsequent replies it quickly becomes apparant that the people here are far more civilised than the barbaric hoarde of trolls that infest the STO forums. Even the people that Zombie Man pointed out were making the same mistake the OP did were far nicer about it than the trekkies are.
  10. The OP's post sounds suspiciously like some of the threads that got people banned from the Star Trek Online forums.

    Population?

Let me also add a welcome back. Now I didn't read all the responses so I may be repeating what others have said already but yes there is currently a dip in the number of people online. That doesn't mean they cancelled their subs tho. Please be aware that we are currently going thru I17 and Going Rogue closed betas back to back. There are people over there rather than on the live servers.

Last year they held a loyalty program and everyone that kept their accounts active from August thru November earned the privilage of getting an invite to Going Rogue beta testing. The Devs also told us that the people with over 60 months would also get in. That's a lot of people.

Also we are dealing with the recent release of Star Trek Online and people are still enjying the newness of that game. CoX players have formed the Paragon Fleet and the Arachnos Fleet and set up a private Cox channel for our players to communicate with each other.

We've also had a lot of changes to the game since ya'll have been gone. Some of which allow players to hide from RMT spammers. When you get a chance just type in /hide and take a look at how it can be customized to suit your needs. You can hide from searches yet still be seen by your friends. We also have an email filter that lets you block unwanted spam.

Super sidekicking makes it easier to form teams since one person can SK the entire team.

The AE has people in the AE buildings rather than standing around outside.

Level restrictions were taken off of most of the zones so players now have unrestricted access to almost every zone which again makes teaming a lot easier.

I'm sure you'll like the changes and be thrilled as the rest of us when we finally get to see what Going Rogue adds to the game.

Doesn't work. Too many people refuse to take that as an answer and instead makes pests of themselves until you throw them on ignore.

Too bad. That's the responsibility that comes with the star. The people that pass off their leadership roles onto other teammates are the losers that get one starred and thrown on my ignore list. I ain't their gorram secretary.

I love this idea and it should be implemented as soon as possible. I also like the flag feature Twilight_Snow suggested and I would like to add it would be great if the search automatically filtered out full teams from the search list so people running 8 man teams didn't get bothered. Also it'd be nice if TF's got filtered out.

Kinetic Melee!! I have had a toon in mind for something like that but could never make them due to energy melee not quite fitting the bill.

In any case...this sounds like good stuff. They just need to market this well now.
GR isn't an Issue it's a paid expansion. Just like CoV wasn't Issue 6.

Go look at the STO forums for the answer to this question. Every single time the STO devs release detailed info about upcoming releases and sales their forums collapse into a festering cesspool of venom and bile.

Keep the trolls in the dark. They can complain all they want after the stuff is released. They'll do it then anyway.

What if there were sub versions of the existing powersets. Sort of like how they set up the Soldiers of Arachnos. Level to a certian point. Do respec force (so it's not just some willy nilly deal), and unlock the chance to keep the current set up even when you respec or switch to a more specialized version of the chosen set(s)?
They could probably do that but they would be Epic powersets since the only sets that do that sort of thing are the Veats and Heats. They could add a new EAT or two, to the Neutral Preatorian side but I doubt they'll go with guns. They'll probably do something different. Maybe focusing on magic or mutation.

I do it all the time. It doesn't take me that long to decide if I'm enjoying a character, and if I decide I don't like it I use the respecs to pull out my IO's and throw them in SG storage for the next character.

To be honest I haven't done a trial respec in almost 3 years on any of my characters. The vetspecs and freespecs have been more than enough on each alt.

Nope. Shotguns are fine just as they are in the Assault Rifle set. whether they be the main weapon . . .

Amazon has the CoH Collector's Edition for as low as $11.90 and the CoV Collector's Edition for $11.72 Figure in the free month that comes with each box and you'd be coming out ahead of the game.

Gift them some inf, organize a sewer team for them, help them get to their first missions if they don't wanna sewer, answer any questions they may have, explain about Enhancements, Inspirations, etc.

The hardest part of fishing is getting that fish to nibble on the bait.

Once that happens, you just gotta "set the hook".

The Trial Account is doing the hard work of attracting new players, we just have to follow up, in-game, by highlighting what sets this MMO apart from the others - its super-amazing player base.

Be "heroic" to newbs and they're that much more likely to become Vets, paying it forward to newbs down the road - a positive feedback loop, CoH-style.
No offense Rob but I think the OP is talking about recruiting people who don't have accounts yet. What we can do as individuals to advertise the game. What you're suggesting are fantastic ways to convince people to stay once they decide to check out the game.

The store side of the store also has limitations, but these seem flexible because I've purchased two codes with the same debit card one day and been denied purchasing a second code with the same debit card the next time around (forced to purchase with my boyfriend's debit card tied to the same bank account).

The only problem I ever had was with my limit being too low. Once I raised the amount I've been able to make multiple purchases at one time. I'm sorry to hear you've had this problem.
