  1. Start here, read about the issues you missed.

There are a lot of new features tied to the paid expansion, Going Rogue, that synced with Issue 18.

    Those include:
    • 4 new power sets.
    • Side switching
    • New starting zone, Praetoria, with branching missions. Level 1-20.
    • With Issue 19 is the Level 50 only content with the start of the Incarnate system.

    Before Issue 19 we got;
    • Power color and some animation customization.
    • High end graphic options if you have the hardware to enable them.
    • Player designed missions.
    • Various bonuses for parking characters at certain locations while playing other characters (Day Jobs).
    • Missions joining with or fighting against alternate dimension and/or clone versions of yourself.
    • Using in game email to send inf or enhancements/recipes/salvage, including back to yourself to use on your other characters.
    • Little things like animated tails.
    Also
    • Fitness Pool is now inherent. All characters get all 4 powers at Level 2, older characters already using the Fitness Pool need to respec to release those power choices and get the ones you haven't picked.
  2. Just be sure you aren't using a macro/bind that toggles SJ on/off along with hopping, I've seen binds like that talked about here over the years. Turning off SJ on the decent will negate any "ignore the first X feet of a fall when calculating fall damage" bonus that SJ gives you.

Also the jump jet from GvE is a great way to achieve maximum altitude while SJing. Do it over the pit in the Hollows for maximum freefall.
  3. Masculature Boost?? Isn't that what those little blue pills are for?

    Sorry, couldn't resist.
  4. Forgot about that, nVidia obviously needed a price point to fill and/or a big bucket of GPUs that failed the normal 336SP test.
  5. The problem with Verne is that most of his classic works nary had a woman in it as even as a minor character. The exception to the rule I can think of off hand is Around the World in 80 Days. Hollywood rarely if ever have an all male case, with the exception of war movies.

Now forcing a female or two into one of these all male Verne stories, if past attempts are any indication, didn't make the movie stronger or improved the story any.
  6. Just saw it a few hours ago, reasonable film, good music. Probably best seeing it on the big screen. Sam really does remind me of Anakin and liking Kevin rocking his light up Jedi cloak. But I think Jeff Bridges is channeling too much of The Dude.
  7. However you still need what's being called "Dx10 compliant" video card, basically one with a lot of unified shaders to be able to do Ultramode.
  8. I think that's a reference from a movie, Glengarry Glen Ross I think.
  9. Has anybody fixed the TRIM issue with RAID drives yet? Last I read TRIM didn't work with RAID.

Also RAID 0 isn't RAID. The R in RAID stands for redundant and RAID 0 isn't, lose either drive, you lose the entire array.

At the very least you will find out how long mission initialization on the server takes because the loading up the local resources should be nearly instantaneous compared to a mechanical hard drive.
  10. From what I've seen (page 3 of the comments) the Bulldozer will work only in their new AM3+ socket.
    Quote:

Bulldozer will work with AM3 MOBO?

    John Fruehe October 22, 2010
    Only works in AM3+

    Yuhong Bao October 22, 2010
So a new mobo will be required for desktop version of Bulldozer? Just to clarify.

    John Fruehe October 23, 2010
    yes
But I don't expect to see them until mid year the earliest.
  11. No, they bought Going Rogue. If they bought any other edition they can start where ever. Remember Praetoria is the game's current showcase of level design, high end graphics enabled zones and new branching mission design.

Of course this makes CoH and CoV areas look old and their missions rather straightforward.
  12. So even less amps at 12 volts than I expected. I'm focused on 12 volts because that's where the CPU and video card draw all/most of their power from. So it's really a 330 watt PSU that can take a surge to 480 watts for a few moments but nothing sustained.

Honestly PSU companies like Logsys who advertise that PSU as 480 watts should be put out of our misery. This PSU from Antec for instance can handle twice the 12V load as your current PSU, easily enough for an HD 5770 which can handle Ultramode at low to medium settings in this game.

Also, my bad. I had believed your motherboard takes DDR but it actually takes DDR2 which isn't as bad as I first thought. That said both AMD and Intel has gone to DDR3 a year or two ago. There are still motherboards available that support DDR2 but they are for the older Intel Socket 775 (well older relative to today's CPU sockets) and AMD Socket AM2+. While the AM2+ socket is compatible to today's AMD Socket AM3 CPUs, Intel's Socket 775 is now their primary "value" platform and uses the older Core 2 CPUs. However even a "value" CPU like the Pentium Dual Core E6500 would still totally crush your Pentium 4.

But still, letting one stick of memory determine what you can upgrade to is silly, especially when you want to be "smart about these choices". Right now 4GB of DDR3 memory, 2 sticks of 2GB, is under $60 and that's the good stuff.

The problem is over the next few months there is going to be a big shift in Intel's mid range products, new socket, new CPUs and a relatively quick phase out of their current mid range line. I expect that within 3 months I will have to completely alter the "guts" of my $1375 rig due to lack of availability for the CPU and motherboard.

    video card

Hardly need to look for the thread and then the post.

    Tom's Hardware Graphics Card Hierarchy - 12/21/10

Note there are also some laptop GPUs as well as integrated graphics in that list.
  14. The nVidia 7300LE is a somewhat old, low end video card. The next questions are how much are you willing to spend, does your case take full size cards (is it thin) and do you want to buy locally or online and are you looking to upgrade your core system (motherboard/CPU/Ram) sometime soon?

You should get a nice kick in performance from, well any videocard made in the last two years. However your limiting factor will still be a relatively slow Pentium 4 with HT CPU with little chance of upgrading without a complete guts transplant (your motherboard is Socket 478 using DDR memory, both long since obsolete). Then there's your power supply. While 480 watts seems a lot, I believe it may be from an older generation of power supplies that do not have a lot of amperage available at 12 volts, maybe only 18a (I'm guessing here based on the age of the core system).

I would say a GT 430 or HD 5570 would be sufficient, affordable while still providing a very nice boost in performance. The HD 5570 is a tad faster and uses a tad less power as the GT 430 but close enough that either are good choices.

I hesitate to suggest faster more power hungry cards without a better handle on the power supply, like make and model number or the power distribution across the various rails.
  15. Calm down and breath.

That is the base portal. It'll take you to your super group base if you belong to a super group (guilds in other MMOs).

Note your mission is in a different zone, Cap Au Diable, you need to take the ferry or black helicopter to get there and then the location will appear on your map.
  16. It's linear within the generation. However the marketing department gets this notion that changing it up shows "innovation".

Fortunately nVidia seems to have dropped the plethora of suffixes. At one point there was the 6800, 6800GS, 6800GT, 6800LE, 6800XT, 6800 Ultra and 6800 Ultra Extreme.

At least ATI/AMD has so far kept their Dx10 and up cards using the same naming convention, HD xxxx where nVidia changed it up from the 8xxx-9xxx to the GTx xxx series.
  17. The problem is your actual question should be "Why don't the devs use the tools they gave us?"

The answer may simply be that's not the procedure in house to do that. It's likely if a mission developer wants a new group, it will have to be scheduled with the departments that create the artwork and animations, even if it's simply a color change. Then the inclusion of the arcs with that group becomes dependent on development departments other than mission development and becomes a scheduling pain.

Software development, especially if anything other than code is required, if a fairly formal process if you want to get anything out reasonably on time. It's not like the mission developer shouts over the cubical wall to art asking someone to knock off a clone of the Council in grays instead on blacks the next time they have a free moment. The mission dev has to ask his/her boss who then brings it up in the next department meeting and the boss of the art group will say they are already buried working on new groups for the next issue and schedules are consulted and finally War Witch has to decide is it worth delaying the time it takes to make a gray Council clone which I would guess 99/100 times is going to be no.

I'm guessing that AE missions are stored differently than official game missions and the same goes with groups. I'm guessing official game groups aren't tweaked to allow AE style color mapping, settable by the mission developer so the Art Department needn't be bothered.
  18. And sometimes you just want to brawl low level mobs to see how many levels apart you need to be to one punch them.

It's a shame you can't stick a knockback enhancement in it for laughs.
  19. You have to remember, or maybe you didn't realize, that this game came out originally in 2004, been under development probably two years before that so the game minimum specs come from way back then.

Both ATI/AMD and nVidia changed their numbering schemes a couple of times over that period.

    ATI/AMD
    9xxx series
    Xxxx series
    X1xxx series
    HD 2xxx-6xxx

    nVidia
    2 - 4 series (GeForce 2, GeForce 3, GeForce 4)
    5xxx-9xxx series
    GTx 2xx - 5xx series

The link SerialBeggar gave you ranks all these series relative to performance. It is a handy guide if you every consider upgrading from old to new to see if you are actually upgrading. Occasionally we get a post from someone who accidentally downgraded they video card because the numbering schemes change between generations.
  20. The Rogue Isles is a great place to train how to weave (not the power) around the much higher level mobs between you and your contact or mission door. One point I simply swam around the isle to avoid the nastiness until I got high enough level.

In CoH we call that zone The Hollows, but they took most of the fun (read certain death) out of that zone since it was refurbished. They rarely send level 6 characters into the level 15 area of the zone anymore.

At least you are conditioned to what the detection radius of hostile mobs are.
  21. Well CoV side is a mix of story arcs and newspaper missions that will give you a contact (3 missions + a bank job will unlock a choice of contacts).

The CoH side of things was originally structured as a series of contact chains that may have a story arc or not, the police scanner (CoH version of the Newspaper) was added later to provide a way to get short missions on demand.
  22. I have a feeling that my original thread didn't garner enough attention due to a poor choice of title.

In short this year's special will be shown on BBC America about 7 hours after it is shown in the UK, uncut, not sure if commercial free (somehow doubt it).

Christmas, 9p EST, BBC America. Amy dressed up in her sexy police women outfit, but that doesn't have anything to do with the plot.

Oh and to make this thread special. Matt Smith was on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson middle of November. Well Craig Ferguson did this elaborate opening of the show, a Doctor Who song and dance number with puppets, a pantomime horse, two hot women in 60s garb and a Dalek. Of course it was cut and not broadcast.

But when did that stop any video from getting out onto the interwebs.

Edit: YouTube play list of the cut opening and Matt's segment.
  23. However I fear I messed up the title and not enough Who fans know about it.

Here's a page with a few short clips and a BBC holiday commercial with a randy Dalek.

I did find a video earlier with all the clips, some extended a tad, edited together in one clump, can't find it now. GRRR.

    Anyways, enjoy.

Edit: Oh, and notice they didn't budget any new outfits for Rory and Amy. Just a little harmless dress up.
