Recommend Me An Email Program

Like the subject line says.

I like to use two different clients on my home computer - one for work email and one for my personal email. Previously, I was using Outlook Express for my work email since that's the program I use at the office. Now, under Windows 7, Outlook Express is gone. Since I need to change programs anyway, I figured it was time to ditch Microsoft.

So, what would people recommend? FYI, no need to mention Eudora as I am already using that for my personal email.

I've been using Thunderbird for several years. Handles my multiple emails (POP and IMAP) pretty well, and I use Mozbackup to back up both it - emails, account info, etc - and Firefox (though, admittedly, I've pretty much migrated to Chrome.)

I use Thunderbird across the board too, works well and behaves itself mostly. Use it in work too as our primary Email Client.

I also use two email clients like you, Ironblade. One is for friends/family (everything else is blocked), and one is for paying bills, ordering merchandise and for business.
I have tried Thunderbird, Incredimail (kinda cool) and Zimbra. I went back to just keeping the email proggies in the 'favorite' bar. I can open them both if I need to in different tabs in the same window...don't usually need to do that. I use AOL (not installed, just the web version) and Hotmail. AOL has just introduced Project Phoenix, a souped up improved version that's quite nice.

I've been wondering about this myself, I have 5 different email accounts that I check constantly; right now I'm using Outlook '03 and have each account going into it's own folder. Does Thunderbird have that functionality also? How about calendar, can it sync with the Google Calendar (I have to use that in order to sync with my Droid)?

I recently upgraded to Office 2010 but found that the new Outlook sucks in it's handling of multiple accounts so I've been using the old 2003 Outlook instead. I have my email set up so that messages from my personal account go into one folder, the messages from my gaming account go into another, my business account goes into a third and so forth. All of these folders are in a master email folder so I just have to sync one folder between my desktop and laptop.

Well, I know for sure that you can add other email clients to Hotmail...and the calendar is awesome. You can sync with both AOL and Hotmail, and both will import personal calendars.

I used to use Thunderbird myself (I use 8 e-mail accounts), but when I got my new computer I started using the Web Mail set ups that my e-mail accounts have. I was so happy with the Web Mail functionality I had I never got around to installing Thunderbird on the new computer. I was not looking forward to setting up the 8 accounts in Thunderbird, too much tedium.

See if your e-mail accounts have a Web Mail set up and if it has the functionality you need. Nice thing is, all my e-mail is stored on their servers, I don't have to back them up myself.

Outlook Express isn't COMPLETELY gone. It's been mangled into a new program Windows Mail. You can even import your OE address books and mail into it if you want.

Still, I'd recommend looking at something else. Like the aforementioned Thunderbird.

Ive used outlook express for years, just because I was to lazy to install an open source client. but with the upgrade to win 7, windows live mail blows, IMHO.

I am forced to use Outlook at work. so, since i like the control over my email that outlook can provide, and it comes with my office install, why not. i use outlook for all my pop mail accounts now.

I could use a better (read: opensource) client like thunderbird, but I'm at a point now where learning new software just puts me in a boat where people ask me questions (read: parents tech support) and i like to avoid that ...
