There's no way I'd toss in a 500 million buy in to something like this.
If you got rid of that you might get more interest. Not off me, but others might be keen. -
-
I'm going to vote for Citadel or Numina. They're both second stringers in the Phalanx who people tend to forget even exist. Especially Numina.
Though Numina is technically already dead so I guess she might get a pass on that.
Honestly I expect them to kill more than one. Numina and ... let's go with Synapse. Why not. -
Quote:One's a concept driven roleplayer who won't take skills that doesn't fit their theme, the other's an obsessive min-maxer who can't begin to understand the concept of sub-optimization.Sam, I have this hilarious image of you and Steelclaw trying to play together. You're all about concept while He's all about numbers. I can only imagine hilarity ensuing.
They fight crime! -
I'm pretty keen for DC but most of the new #1's haven't grabbed me all that much. Supergirl #1's pacing was painfully slow.
Spoilers coming. Though if you don't know who Supergirl is from the name alone then you're a little bit odd.
She lands on earth confused as to why she's there, she fights some robots because she's confused. Superman turns up. The end.
There. That's it. That's the entire comic. As pacing goes that is terrible.
Which ones would I recommend from the line you didn't ask? Well I quite liked Action Comics. It sets out the new world well enough and has Luthor being a marvellous ******* in it. Yes it's not the Superman we all got to know from before quite yet, but what's the point in a reset if you're not going to actually reset stuff?
Batman is fairly solid. But then it usually is.
If you like some goofiness in your comics (Which I do) then Frankenstein : Agent of S.H.A.D.E. was one I actually quite liked. It's a bit like GI Joe but with... well.. Frankenstein monsters. Yes it is as ridiculous as it sounds but I like it.
Resurrection Man is pretty good! Since most people will have no idea who this guy is that actually makes it a good one to pick up so you can read it as what seems to be a good story to start with without any preconceptions hanging on.
Batwoman was as good as ever, but seems to have just ignored the idea of a reset. Which is fine, I liked it before I still like it now.
Superboy is actually one of the best I've read so far. Which considering it's Superboy (Who has many, many problems before) is pretty amazing. It's the one comic so far which seems to have had some real thought put into it. A good Superboy comic. Wow. Didn't expect to be saying that.
Demon Knights was perfectly good sword and sorcery. Though Etrigan not talking in rhyme makes me sad.
Swamp Thing is your horror comic book. Was it good? Yep. Really all I got to say on that without ruining it.
Uh...
Batwing was good, not great but good. Worth a read if you're keen.
Legion Lost I'd recommend because I love the Legion and am totally biased. Normal people may want to leave this one. But not me.
Stormwatch was amusing and a good read. Even if it's blatantly flipping the bird to the rest of the DC universe. So no change there then.
Yep that's it. Assume any that I didn't mention are either 'Meh' or sucked. Especially Red Hood and the Outlaws. Dear god that was terrible. -
X-Men 3 was horrible, the fact they killed off half the cast in it did not make it any better.
I don't particular like killing off characters. Not because I'm soft or anything, just that it leads to a lot of wangst and depressing role-play in which everyone sits around being quietly angry at what has occurred and not really talking except to console each other. It's actually why I have Wrench, as she's enough of a ***** to not care about whatever black pall of drama is overhead and will keep roleplaying anyway. I can bring her out whenever someone's trying to drag out the drama by dancing about an issue or keeping quiet and have a giant argument instead. Which usually seems to fix it nicely.
I just don't think it works in the style of RP we have at GG. It works on Tabletop and LARP because hey, death is actually something that can happen to you regardless of your own plans. It's a threat and a worry that can make you scared of dying or elated when you don't. It works in stories because the writer knows what'll come next as well as putting it in some sort of context that'll be good for the story itself.
Generally in CoH death is greeted with a bit of a "Oh that sucks. Mope mope mope" and then two or three weeks later we never really speak of it again. -
It's the internet. You're pretty much going to get annoyed by people regardless of your sex, race or sexuality and a level of thick skin is needed to use it.
Yes, this is annoying and it shouldn't be that way. But there is literally no way to stop this kind of behaviour before it happens, the GM's aren't able to tell the future so it's down to you to report and ignore.
Which is the beauty of MMO's, in real life I have to put up with people who say things that I honestly don't care for either because of work obligations or that I'm willing to let it slide to not be a total downer. In CoH? I can ignore them forever more in around five seconds.
The problem is some people get offended and then simply don't take the steps to stop being offended. Use the ignore function instead of arguing with these people, it's there for a reason and you'll feel a lot better. -
Quote:Indeed! I did actually say that earlier on that I didn't really feel it. However I disliked the bouncy PvP even more. I am very consistent in not like CoH's PvP!The only conclusion is that you don't actually like PVP as it is.
Quote:All travel suppression does is make it easier for ranged characters to kill someone. This is because melee characters are suppressed by their own melee attacks...so it becomes a crawl for two players. So the melee characters have to crawl to their suppressed opponenet before TS wears off to land another attack. Alternatively: the ranged character, while crawling, just fires ranged blast after ranged blast.
So yes. Travel Suppression does not help melee characters.
Quote:I never die in zones on my tank. Back before Issue 13 I used to die a lot more.
Quote:If I walk into broken glass should I step backwards and rethink my path, or should I soldier on, through the broken glass?
Vague metaphors with moralistic leanings aren't useful when it comes to system design.
Tweaking Travel Suppression, sure. It's a good idea that's flawed as it activated on too many triggers in my mind. Throwing it out returns us to the bouncy PvP style which, as I may have said once or twice, I absolutely hated with the fury of a thousand suns.
I have no idea how you managed this. Aren't you invincible in Hibernate? It's pretty much the point of it. -
Quote:I can bring back the silly pictures if needs be. The point was I was saying "I don't want this to turn into a 'Real PvP'ers aren't affected by suppresion" which you none the less decided to argue even though I didn't want to talk about it. Hence the silly pictures.Well you didn't go into detail about it as I requested so I had to make a guess. Apologies if I was wrong!
Quote:The idea should be that PVP is fun enough that a lot of people want to play it. .
Neat! I did not know that. However that's just one more power to add to my silly list of 'Needs' now.
Quote:If someone is in hibernate you simply wait until they come into it. Also Hibernate has a 1.5 second animation time during which the player can still be attacked.
Quote:Oh I agree completely. Melee characters should be able to do a lot more than they currently can. Who wants to level up a superman or wolverine inspired character just to end up a tauntbot? I know I didn't. My point was that melee chaacters were taunters both before and after Issue 13. Travel Suppression and Heal Decay haven't changed that. (Which is why i was confused you think they had made a difference...)
Quote:Well that's just your personal opinion. I used to feel the same way when I was a casual PVPer. Once I got into PVP a bit more I started liking the fast paced combat more.
And of course it's my own opinion! Who's else would it have been? -
Well don't tell me how you don't want to sound like a Pro then immediately say I only got kills because they were 'easy' kills. I respond to silliness like that in kind!
Also the idea of being forced to take Super-Speed or Super-Jump to PvP isn't all that appealing to me. Nor is being forced to get Web Nades (Which you need to control Siren's Call for), take Teleport Other to counter Teleport or play powersets with -Jump and Slows. This is creating checklists that you need to complete before you can have any fun and that is not a good thing for enticing new players, especially as these checklists aren't spelled out.
There's no counter to Phase Shift or Hibernate but I've only ever faced someone with either once (Hibernate) so it wasn't really a thing I ever worried about. Okay I may have played a Fire/Ice tank in the PvP zones once, but unlike my SS/WP they really were absolutely useless beyond taunting.
I'd like to be able to take a character into PvP and have at the very least a middling chance of being useful in ways beyond pressing Taunt. Rather than fresh meat for the murder machine as I don't have the powers 'needed' to survive.
Heck maybe if on entering a PvP zone I was given free web nade temps and a Temp Power that gave me Super Speed/Super Jump I'd find it less of a hassle to PvP. But I'd still think bouncing about like jumping beans looks and plays in an absolutely ridiculous way. -
That's good!
Quote:If your tank is only capable of killing easy targets then i's not exactly fair to say that travel suppression is helping him do that. Easy targets are easy targets regardless of the system. -
Hah! Well that isn't a set up to you going "Well obviously you're playing it wrong/everyone you played sucks as I'd never die to that" is it? I'll pass, we don't need to turn this thread into me defending my experiences over yours. We both think PvP isn't very good now, I just think it wasn't very good before either.
I'm not an experienced PvP'er, I drop into it infrequently and give it a try, do okay(Ish) and then leave because it's still not doing it for me. This isn't that I hate PvP, god no. I love PvP in games and played the heck out of it in practically any one you care to name, but CoH is more focused on the Power Sets of the person than the actual fun parts of PvP.
I've tried it Pre I13. In fact I made a Thugs/Poison/Mace Mastermind just to PvP with and they did pretty good (Until people learnt to just go absolutely nowhere near me lest they be TP'd, webbed and killed). Post I13 they were even better but I was also able to try it out with my SS/WP tank or my Sonic/Rad Controller and have something resembling fun. Was I playing really bad people? Probably! The vast majority of any PvP community isn't very good and I'm sure I'm just as much of a hopeless newb as the rest.
I don't think the current system is great. It's still really kind of bad but it's more fun than everyone bouncing around like Mexican Jumping Beans firing off powers at range or diving down to gank the unlucky sod who got nicked with a Web grenade. So I'd prefer they didn't take a step backwards if they did anything at all to PvP. They need to make it more appealing to everyone, not just a small group of people who are keen enough to level up new characters everytime the FOTM of old is nerfed/changed/found to have a flaw. -
Quote:Yes I am! Admittedly it's only because Rage in Super Strength rocks the house but it works nicely in flattening out people if I have a little time to wail on them. Which I do because they can't run away incredibly easily. If we're back to the bouncy, chasey game then no I can't because Melee is pretty useless in that playstyle.Issue 13 did not change your role as a tank though. You are pretty much still just a taunter. I know this because one of my main characters is a tank. Outside of Fossilize they do awful damage. You are not suddenly capable of killing because of Heal Decay and Travel Suppression.
-
Quote:For some people. Personally when I want to PvP I want to do it with the characters I've made and enjoy playing, not the "Spines/Regen" or whatever is FOTM so I got a chance of winning. This is what I've been talking about, the PvP metagame. One thing gets popular because it works, but then a counter is found and that becomes the popular thing until people stop doing the first thing. Or find a new way to do the first thing that's not countered by the second thing. Third and fourth and fifth things come into play, even if the game itself isn't changing, the tactics still do. That's what makes it fun.
Of course this will never happen, so PvP simply doesn't hold a lot of appeal for me. It holds even less appeal without travel suppression though, at least with suppression I can have fun with my SS/WP Tank. -
Quote:Fighting people who can instantly get away does not sound very fun to me. Yes you can counter it with Teleport Other, but it's still not all that much fun (And easily countered with a single Insp)I just want to be able to legitimately take Teleport again. My Bane Scout made a habit of jumping in behind someone, clout them over the head with the mace, and then teleport out before they even knew what was happening.
Then I13 hit. And suddenly I was simply making very loud noises and flashy fx while going smegging nowhere. And dying quickly. Not cool.
I do think now, if ever, is the best time to seriously look at PvP again. Heal decay can also go to hell. -
I don't want either removed but I would like thier effects toned down or narrowed.
If there was no Travel Suppression then I'd be back to being a Taunt Bot as a Tank, rather than someone who can actually kill. No Travel Suppression is great for Blasters, Stalkers and people with powers that suppress travel in thier native set (Rads, Spines and all that). It sucks for everyone else though. However Travel Suppression should activate when it's sensible for it to happen, not on practically any action. Similarly while degrading heals isn't a bad idea, it's currently far too high.
So since I don't want it do you now have to say "All PvP'ers except Fanservice" or am I not a real PvP'er? Curious! -
I never have any idea what I'm doing, so the fact anything at all gets done is fairly amazing in itself.
While I don't do a lot of plot for CoH (It's my relaxation RP really! I plot for games I GM in other places) there's still a lot of mental stuff that's come out of throw away references or jokes and storylines that have taken lives of thier own. -
Well if we're ressing it I might as well chip in.
The problem with most "Super Evil, Mwahaha" villain and RP is actually quite simple.
No one really wants to talk to them.
Sure they want to hit them, or lock them up, but no one wants to talk to that guy. He's got nothing interesting to say other than "I'm evil, I'll mess you up. Insult, jibe, hate."
No one with half a brain talks to someone who's full of nothing but venom. Unless it's directed at someone else.
Pumice is a fairly evil Villain who I had who had no trouble getting RP. Yes they were an unashamed thug, killer and crook. But they had fun doing it and liked to let other people in on the fun. She found it all a barrel of dark laughs and generally people were happy to talk to her because despite being a horrible person, she was still interesting to have a drink with and had some good stories to tell.
I disagree with the "A Hero is only as good as his Villain" because let's face it that's rarely true. Spiderman's Villains suck, but Spiderman himself is great. Batman's Villains are great, but Batman himself is a fairly flat character unless 'very' well written. I love the Birds of Prey, but I'd be really hard pressed to name even one Villain of theirs. Except Lady Shiva and she really doesn't count as she's not really a Villain as such.
And the best kind of 'Real' Villain is Lex Luthor or Doctor Doom in my opinion. Classy, but evil. -
If you want to roleplay, everyone else has to be doing it too.
I'm not against Zwillinger messing about, but by their own admission they weren't roleplaying and just messing about. If Pocket D had no power suppression, people would buzz in not looking for roleplay, but a fight.
It's like trying to play tennis at a football match. Kind of interesting for a while, but ultimately not really what anyone came to see. -
Shards do feel like old currency right now, be nice to phase them out. So agreed!
-
A big name hero dying in the Ultimates universe really shouldn't be any kind of shock by now. It was doing well too until they started killing them off left, right and center.
-
I take my little brother to the cinema for two reasons.
1. He really loves going.
2. I get to watch the latests CGI kids film
Now they're usually very good, the guilty pleasure is how I go about it!
For clearly kids movies love, How to Tame your Dragon and the original Disney Alice in Wonderland, which probably does count.
For more grown up films, I admit I rather like Jingle All the Way as a silly Christmas film and True Lies or The Last Action Hero as absolutely ridiculous but still amusing action films.
They all star Arnie. This isn't a coincidence.
Oh and let's not forget Starship Troopers! For it's over the top machismo. -
<Sarcasm> Durray as a Mastermind sure is fun. </Sarcasm>
Seriously. Masterminds cannot fight these random drop, mega AoE bosses. It's frustrating to try get my pets to behave long enough to not get splatted by AoE's. In the end I had to pull them back on passive and wait for him to give it a rest with the airstrikes before going back in thus missing about half the fight.
Which is about as fun as it sounds. Not at all.
The rest of it was good! The bomb ghouls didn't give me the trouble I thought they would. But Sutter was just irritating.
And why don't the Heroes get a buff from this TF? The Villains do, it'd seem only fair! -
Don't worry, we'll get a Haloween event out of this for sure.
-
People hated Issue 6 because it was a big nerf and if there's one thing I know about MMO's it's that nerfs always go down like a lead brick, especially if everyone is getting hit by it.
Issue 20 brought in content that's fairly popular. I've teamed with more new people in the past week than I ever have before and the vast majority of them seem to be having fun. So trying to make Issue 20 out as a huge mistake is just not ringing true, some people don't like it, those people are in a minority.
Yes it sucks to feel you're not being catered too, but as the old adage goes, you can't please everyone. I'm sure they'll loosen up the Incarnate block for small team and solo players with time, but they shouldn't stall the drive they've got going to focus purely on that. Next Issue is going to have new Incarnate abilities in it, pretty much a dead cert.
