I would love to see the Devs take another look at Dark Armor.

Cloak of Fear: The accuracy penalty and the endurance cost together are excessive.

Dark Regen: I *love* the recharge but the 33.8 points of endurance at level 16 is excessive. Ideally, I would love to see the end use based on the number of critters hit. But I don't know if that is possible.

I have a level 50 spines/DA which is great on teams and solo. It is such a unique powerset. But it was such a pain in the *** to level until I was able to slot it up with IOs. Make Dark Regen and Cloak of Fear a little more SO friendly and I'll roll some more.

At the very least do something with Cloak of Fear...it is such a cool ******* power.
  2. In the future it would help (me anyways) if you specified PVP or PVE.

I also went for +12 kb resist
Typically, for PvE, you want to shoot for 1 KB IO (4 points of protection)
or 3 KB IOs (12 points of protection). Having 2 KB IOs (8 points) is a
waste in my opinion. On my melee toons 1 KB is fine until I fight certain
EBs. If you plan on soloing a lot (especially EBs) then I would
    recommend 3 KB IOs.

Superspeed *never* added any stealth in PvP. Superspeed will not make you
"stealthier" in PvE if you already have Hide.

suppose I do pvp...do the prestige sprints suppress in pvp? If so I guess

Since you are somewhat new to Stalkers, I would strongly recommend
you focus on getting a PvE only build before worrying about PvP. Forget
PvP for the time being and make sure you understand what goals you
want to achieve in your PvE build. Once you are happy with you PvE
build then you can focus on your PvP build...which will be *very* different.

Example 1: As a stalker in PvP, you need to get to the stealth cap. Getting
to the cap means taking the Concealment Pool. And unless you are an old
school stalker, getting to the stealth cap also means slotting a stealth IO.
Adding extra stealth does nothing for you in PvE.

Example 2: In PvE, 4 or 12 points of knockback protection is fine.
In PvP, you want to shoot for 41 to 42 points of KB protection (The build in
question is Rad/Psi, but the KB Protection discussion is good).

Once you have a PvE build you are happy with, then go to the PvP section
    and ask questions.

I meant more of Hide breaking though...is it not like invis where
you lose like half the defensive bonus? Or do you lose all def bonuses
    when hide breaks?
    From City of Data:
    Quote:
+3.75% Smashing Defense, Melee Defense, Ranged Defense for 0.75s
    +37.5% AOE Defense for 0.75s
The numbers above are the portion of hide that is suppressed when you are
attacked, when you do damage to something, or click something.

    Quote:
+1.875% Smashing Defense, Melee Defense, Ranged Defense, AOE Defense for 0.75s
The numbers above are the portion of Hide stays with you even when Hide breaks.
When you are attacked, or when you do damage you will have ~1.88% to
melee, ranged, and AoE (and smashing for some reason).

One more suggestion. You can set up MIDs to only show the suppressed value
of hide. I am unable to check exactly how to do that atm. But it is useful
when planning builds on a stalker. Or you could just plan your build
without having hide on (there are some annoying escort missions where the
follower can't follow you with hide on).

Finally, help us help you. Describe exactly what you want to do with
a build when asking for help. PvP (Zone, Arena, Fiteklub)? PvE (mostly
team, solo at +0x2 with bosses, solo EBs, solo AVs, solo incarnate
missions at +4x8)? Are you powerleveling this up to 50 or are will you be
playing up to 50 (what level is you toon atm)?

I have a level 50 Nin/Nin that I just finished IO'ing out for the second
time. I've been doing story arcs redside. I normally do missions at +0x2
with bosses. I mainly want to test myself against EBs. I don't have an
incarnate level shift and have found the DA missions...challenging
    (but fun).

I was reluctant to post earlier. You only asked "whatcha think?", and your
build was so all over the place. I guess I shouldn't be so crotchety.

    Good luck.

Yesterday I did a little street sweeping with my level 50 Spines/DA scrapper in Perez Park and got 1 or 2 Enhancement Converters. I won't be doing it again though. I would rather run level 50 content/farms and get influence and other drops in addition to the chance of getting ECs.

I am curious to hear if folks are farming gray conning critters for ECs and if they are happy with the results.

The point is to discuss challenge in mission content and how to make things challenging for solo players, small teams, and large teams, without just turning on and off the AV button.
    Add a "Farm" Challenge Setting.

    Quote:
Little to no impact on the art team or powers team. The goal here is to come up with ideas that are easily applicable to several scenarios.
Buffs and debuffs trivialize a good portion of the content in this game. The best solution to making content for solo players and teams more challenging is to make the AI smarter. The easiest solution is to allow the players to do what farmers have done and are currently doing in the Mission Architect.

    Farm Setting = 0
    No change from regular settings.

    Farm Setting = 1
Random spawns trigger random number of ambushes.

    Farm Setting = 2
Random spawns and final boss triggers random number of ambushes.

    Farm Setting = 3
All spawns and final boss trigger random number of ambushes, add in a ridiculous number of patrols.

Again, adding a "Farm" setting isn't the best solution. But if you cannot make the AI smarter and you can't give the AI tools to deal with the massive buffs and debuffs it will face, then give it more numbers.

Some people don't like the word farm so you would need to use a different word. But people, in general, feel super when they can mow down huge amounts of enemies.

Can you pack in enough enemies so that IO'd out soloists and "Super Teams" feel challenged (without defeating them with lag)?

Yeah, I just suggested the devs help me pack more Behemoths into my demon farm.

It seems something happened and the maps I used before are nerfed to hell from what they were.
I kinda liked this just to kill time with a brute and fill space between groups by leveling quickly.

Are these no longer around? Guessing they nerfed reviving enemies?
Is there another option to this method? A way for low level brutes to farm fairly easily and crank up the exp?

    Thanks.
The low level farming that you remember is gone. That being said, search for TopDoc in the AE window. There is a mission involving "Roboslicers". Nothing like what you are probably accustomed to in terms of Tickets and XP...but good enough IMO.

    >>my Regeneration Brutes seem to have a solid blue bar most of the time, so I
    >>think they need less.
    >>

I failed to mention that that the Regen powerset (as well as Willpower) gets a
great ability called "Quick Recovery". This power is *superior* to Stamina. You
will want to slot Quick Recovery with 3 x ENDMODs. One even level ENDMOD SO
will have a value of 33.3% and three will have a value of ~95% after ED.

Fully slotted Quick Recovery + 1 slot in Stamina + Slotting END in your attacks
and "Armors" will eliminate any endurance issues you might have during normal
gameplay. For more *extreme* builds and gameplay, you'll probably want/need
    more end.

    >>

I would like to clarify one thing (and forgive me if you are already aware of
this information). Common IO recipes can be purchased directly from
Universities. There is a tutorial you can run which will give you one free
    Common IO.

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/University

The price of the Common IO recipe will depend on its level and whether or not
you have the recipe memorized. The salvage you can get from drops or the
    market, or MA tickets.

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Common_Invention_Recipes

I believe that you can also use Reward Merits to purchase Common IO recipes. In
my opinion, you should save those merits for better things.

MA tickets can also be used to purchase Common IO recipes.

    >>
    >>If a power has Knockback, disorient, stun or -tohit, or something like that,
    >>is it advisable to put an enhancement in for it?
    >>

In my opinion, as a Brute your slotting priorities should be:
    1) Accuracy: You need to be able to hit the enemies.
    2) Endurance: You need the energy to finish the fight.
    3) "Armors": Resistance/Defense/Regen - the stuff that makes you hard to kill.
    4) Damage: "Debuff" your enemies hitpoints faster.

Knockback (KB), knockdown (KD), and knockup (KU) can be useful. But I wouldn't
use a slot for it. At least not initially. Note that KB and KD are really the
same mechanic. If the magnitude of KB is less than one it becomes Knockdown and
the enemy stays in one place. When the magnitude of KB is greater than one then
the enemy position changes...it flies backward. The level 32 power pick in
Super Strength is Foot Stomp...a wonderful power. It is a Player Based Area of
Effect (PBAoE) that does good damage and has an 80% chance to do knockdown. If
you slot KB enhancements into that power then you would turn that KD into KB. I
think many folks would advise against slotting KB into Foot Stomp because it
would cause many critters to scatter. There are probably some situations where
you would want to slot for KB as a Brute, but it is not a priority. The level 8
power in the Super Strength powerset is called Knockout Blow. It does great
damage and *KU*. Knockup causes enemies to go flying up into the air. My
understanding is that slotting KB enhancements into Knockout Blow will cause
enemies to fly higher up into the air. Fun to watch, but not a priority...and
there are better "extras" you can slot.

Disorients/Stuns, toHit Debuffs, mezzes in general I recommend not slotting, at
least initially. You will probably find that as you are leveling up you will be
starved for slots. Stick with the basic stuff first. When you hit your late 30s
and early 40s you will have a lot more slots to play with. At that point it is
easier to add things...of course at that point you will probably be focused on
    stacking set bonuses.

    One last link: http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/powers/

Great site for getting real numbers for powersets.

One last thought...if you feel overwhelmed with the all of the websites and
numbers then I suggest just IGNORING ALL OF IT. I started playing this game
a long time ago. It took me 1-2 years before I had my 1st level 50. I had some
really horrible builds. I would 6 slot brawl (this was before IOs). This game
is very forgiving to those with bad builds, especially if you team a lot. I
learned about how to slot my toons by teaming with other and asking questions.
I also spent time, reading the forums. Don't get too hardcore with your builds,
at least not in the beginning (unless that is what you enjoy doing).

    Good luck.
  7. Hello, I'm going to talk about 2 things in this post: slotting to get your endurance use under control, and using the MA to get salvage you want/need.

    >>
    >>I would appreciate advice on the following:
    >>- Numbers to aim for.
    >>

When slotting attacks, you want to enhance Accuracy (ACC), Endurance Reduction
(END), and Damage (DAM). Often you will see folks on the forums discuss
enhancements in terms of even level Single Origin Enhancements (SOs). For a
power like Scorch, "typical" SO slotting would be:
    1 x ACC: 33% Enhancement to accuracy
1 x END: 33% Enhancement to endurance reduction
    3 x DAM: 95% Enhancement to damage

Note: An even level "schedule A" SO = 33.3%. Three even level "schedule A"
    enhancements should equal: 33.3% + 33.3% + 33.3% = 99.9%. The actual value
turns out to be closer to 95% due to a diminishing returns system called
    Enhancement Diversification (ED).

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Enhancement_Diversification

Your attacks should have at the very minimum 1 even level ACC SO and 1 even
level END SO. In my opinion these are the numbers you want to aim for 1st.
Slotting for damage on a Brute is a low priority, *especially* at low levels
    because of how Fury works.

Your "armors" (toggles like fire shield and plasma shield) should have at the
very minimum 1 even level END SO. I will have 2 END SOs if my build has several
toggles. Then add your resistance/defense SOs.

For Damage auras (like Blazing Aura) I always slot 2 END SOs. Then add your damage SOs.

Your inherent power Stamina is wonderful. Three slot this power with endurance
    modifications (ENDMODs) ASAP.

I glossed over many details but you mentioned ParagonWiki, so you know where to
find answers (and of course ask more questions here). If you follow the general
slotting outlined above (at least one SO of END in each attack) then you'll keep more
blue in your end bar. One random thought..make sure to turn off travel powers and
    sprint during combat.

I also didn't mention Invention Origin Enhancements (IOs). They are better than
SOs because they don't weaken as you level up (and in many cases they have set
bonuses). I think there are others who could do a better job of explaining the
IO system and recommending IOs for your builds. If you can understand how ED
works with SOs, then understanding IOs will be easy.

    >>
    >>As a new player my resources are limited. I'm specifically interested in
    >>solutions that require little Inf. and/or Prestige. For example quite a few
    >>of the Invention Sets I've come across, need Rare Salvage that is too
    >>expensive for me to buy, and I'd rather sell on the Black Market than use if,
    >>I do have it.
    >>

I know that you don't want advise on how to make money. But I have to mention
that you don't ever have to buy salvage. Any piece of salvage you need to craft
IOs can be purchased with Mission Architect (MA) tickets. I have a
Claws/Electric Brute level locked at 30. I use that brute to run MA missions.
After I reach the ticket cap (9,999) I generate "bronze roll" recipes and the
salvage I need to create these IOs.

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Ticket

Anytime you need salvage for a recipe and you don't want to pay market prices
then use the MA. You will need three pieces of information to get the salvage
    you want using MA tickets:
    1) The type of salvage (Tech or Arcane).
    2) The level range of the salvage (low-level, mid-level, and high-level)
    3) The rarity (common, uncommon, rare)

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Invention_Salvage

You can run farms or you can check out the MA section of the forums and find
    some player generated stories.

    Hope this is helpful.

What I don't get is why some procs like LOTG +7.5% recharges don't work in sc level unless they are 33 or below but Numinas, Miracles and Perf Shifters do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I *think* the deal with the LotG +7.5% is that it acts like a set bonus.

With things like the Stealth IO, Numinas, Miracles, and P. Shifters *something* happens every 120? seconds. It doesn't care about level...if it is "on" then it is going to fire. This is why if I slot a level 50 stealth IO in sprint it will work even if I ex down to level 1. As long as the power is available the stealth is going to be applied every X seconds. If I had put the stealth IO into superjump then as soon as SJ goes away so goes away my ability to use the stealth IO.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I will do these same tests on other characters after some reslotting, but it seems pretty clear to me that the character is not getting the bonus 6.25% recharge bonus from the Call to Arms set when in Sirens Call, even if the real numbers feature says he is.

In short, it appears that the real numbers are not accurate.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    1) Keep in mind how your enhancement values can change when you exemplar. I believe a level 45 in siren's call would have a multiplier of 0.935 (from link).

    2) Diminishing Returns affects +recharge. If you are going to test +recharge then you need to account for DR if you are in a PvP zone. Test using the O-portal if you want to investigate +rech without the hassle of DR.

    Issue 13 PvP Powers Changes
    [ QUOTE ]

    Diminishing Returns
Nearly all attributes characters have are now subject to Diminishing Returns. The specific numbers vary from attribute to attribute, and from class to class (it's easier to Buff Resistance and Defense on a Tanker, than on a Blaster.)

    * In general, a single buff will have near full effect, while additional buffs begin to offer less and less benefit. Example: Under the old system, Aim + Build up might provide a combined 67% To Hit buff, while under this system it provides a combined 49% To Hit Buff.

    * The calculation is based on the sum of all buffs, so the order the buffs are applied in does not matter.

    * It is important to note that the Real Numbers tool will not always report the results of diminishing returns accurately, at least initially. This is specifically true of Damage Buffs, which always display the Pre-Diminished value.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Download Mids Hero Designer and check out City of Data (under Power Quantification). That should get you started.
  17. I didn't believe it at first.

Best thing you can do is have your level 50 buy 2 IOs from the same set (pick something with a set bonus that is easy to spot when you open your combat attributes window). Copy your 50 to test and then slot the IOs in your level 49 power.

If both IOs are level 28 or lower the set bonus will appear in BB (I think you are 25 in BB so +3=level 28)....actually the set bonus will appear in every PvP zone.

If both IOs are levels 29 to 33 then the set bonus will appear in SC, WB, and RV.

    34 - 41: WB and RV

    42+: RV only

I always get confused with the zone level ranges (I'm always in SC), so they may be off. But the point is, if I slot a power like Elude with IOs from the same set (level 33 or lower) then I can get that bonus in SC.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
You're wrong. I absolutely promise you they do not work. The exceptions being the already mentioned purple sets, PvP specific sets and certain uniques. Those will work at any level.

As a note, there is a bug of sorts that allows some effects to carry over when zoning. If you are checking your numbers when you first enter a zone you will see numbers that are not meant to apply or are stacked from the previos zone. Wait at least two minutes for any previous applications to wear off before checking real numbers.

If you are still experiencing those effects, please take a screen shot. I'm sure we would all love to see it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes..they work that way. I slot powers that I get in my 40s so that the set bonuses work in Sirens Call (+HP for example). I've done this on *many* toons. And the bonuses remain for the *entire* time I am in the zone.

I'm not going to post a screenshot b/c it is easy enough for you to prove it to yourself (test server).

It's not working in the way the devs explained it to us originally...but 4 slotting Eradication in your level 49 power will give you +2.25% HPs in Siren's Call as long as the IOs are level 33 or lower.

I've played this game for 4-5 years. I've taken a break here and there for deployments and such, but I love it. Getting ready to make a stalker, but my question is, how do you make a succesful stalker for pvp and pve content? I have heard that for pvp you need leadership and stealth, and a second travel power? Whats the trade off pve side? Do I just make a second build now that thats an option?

    [/ QUOTE ]

For PvP you have to get to the stealth cap (Hide + stealthIO + Stealth OR Hide + Invis). You will have a difficult time in zone PvP until you get to the cap. In PvE, having Hide is enough. So if you can afford it a second build is nice to have.

Having two travel powers is nice but not needed. Superspeed lacks vertical movement but it lets you ignore slows. Superjump is perhaps the best all around travel power for PvP. Fly, by itself, is not a good travel power for melee types in PvP...it is too slow. TP used to be a great escape power in PvP, now it ain't so great (thanks to travel suppression). If you are going to have 2 travel powers in PvP then SJ + SS is the way to go IMO. On most of my PvP toons I just take SJ.

How can I calculate the effect of diminishing returns? How did you arrive at 45% defense in PvE turning into 34% in PvP?

There is a guide on how to calculate diminishing returns, but it doesn't provide a way to convert PvE numbers to PvP. Well, maybe it does and I just don't understand it.

I got the numbers by using inspirations. Enter your favorite place to PvP with a tray full of purples. Open your attributes monitor and display defense. Pop a purple and record the number being shown. Continue to do this for as long as you can before they stop stacking. Enter the numbers into your favorite spreadsheet and plot PvE vs PvP (you know what the PvE value of the purple is). Repeat for any other ATs you are interested in. Getting toHit info isn't as straightforward b/c toHit has never displayed properly in the combat attributes window (shows PvE base chance tohit). But I have seen a couple of folks mention that 30% is the cap....and you can pop yellows and see how the number starts to plateau (then subtract 75% to see the bonus). Damage numbers are also wonky...I don't know if the numbers are just wrong or if it is off b/c of your enhancement values.

I guess you don't have to go hardcore with the spreadsheet. It just made it easier for me to see how the toons I pvp with compare.

THen what does 'clamp' mean in your formula? I am still trying to figure it out and perhaps I will on my own. But knowing what you mean by that may accelerate the process.

Check out the link I provided. Clamp means that the number calculated cannot be higher than 95% or lower than 5%
