I'm confused... is Windows 7 just 64-bit ready no matter what? All the pre-order things I've been seeing on Newegg and Best Buy don't mention 32 or 64 bit, and I was wanting to move up to 64 bit so Windows will see all 4 GB of my ram. Can anyone help clarify this?
[/ QUOTE ]
As I recall, both versions are in the same package.
[/ QUOTE ]For retail it is not oem. For that you have to specify. Either way if you dont get the one you want you can always request the other disc from microsoft directly for a small fee. Remember its the disc you use that determines whether its 64 bit or not, the key just determines what flavor of vista/windows 7 you get (home premium, ultimate, business, upgrade or full install). -
[ QUOTE ]
Hrm... might end up with the 32-bit version anyways, just because it's easier to find drivers and there's less worry about compatibility issues. I guess that's worth more to me than being able to use the other 768MB of RAM.
However, I know USMT is a command-line tool, and I have a dislike for command line apps (one of the reasons I've yet to really embrace Linux). I'll have to dig around in the documentation, unless there's an equivalent app with a GUI.
EDIT: It also seems to me that the documentation for USMT is written as though it's purpose is to migrate from one computer to another, not to a clean install of an OS on the same computer (i.e. wipe the hard drive and install).
[/ QUOTE ]Actually its the 64-bit drivers that are more stable. They may be a little bit harder to find but I avoid that issue totally by buying stuff that has vista 64-bit on the box. You should always check with the manufacterers site for drivers before you buy anyways. Besides that why would you want to sell your self short on ram by using the 32-bit version? CoX is ram hungry as hell and there is no telling if the requirements are going to go up when going rogue hits just like it did when cov came out. If you want to learn about custom vista/windows 7 installs you definately want to google or bing the WAIK (windows automated installation kit) Sure there is a bit of dos type commands involved but you can integrate all your drivers and patches right into the install media. That way when you burn it and reinstall (hopefully cleanly) you save a ton of time. Alternatively you can build an image specifically to your machine so all you got to do is add the patches overtime using the kit. So if you have a virus or something you just reimage but your up to date. You can even update CoX with this application as it lets you manipulate the files from windows explorer. Basically what I do is run virtual box, customize the install like I want it, run all the updates, install office and other apps. Capture the image, add in the drivers and put it to the side for later when I need to do a reinstall. -

To the OP you are one of the first players to post something worth reading when it comes to this. I commend you on what you are trying to do. -
I just want to mention that even if you buy the upgrade version you can do a "clean" install with it by selecting custom install. You just end up having to install it twice but it works just like in vista. When done you just delete the folder call "windows.old".

Disappointed to see that the "upgrade" from XP to 7 is actually a clean install. Of course I'm planning on upgrading to the 64-bit version (running 32-bit XP Pro right now) so I guess it's really a moot issue. Just gotta figure out what I want saved, and how I'm going to do it.
[/ QUOTE ]Why would you ever want to take the risk in doing an upgrade with a new OS? I understand some folks dont want to change settings again and what not but it simply not worth the risk of other problems from your previous OS turning up in your upgrade install. If it does you just end up having to do a clean install anyways. Besides dont you know doing upgrade is....you know dirty? -
I too can confirm it does stack just not from the same caster. Just as the other guy said you have to look at it from the standpoint of what the game calls a caster. I have it slotted in my jounin and my poison debuff power. The jounin power it self counts as 1 caster eventhough there are two of them so only one debuff gets applied there. If I used my mastermind debuffs on top of that we get 2 procs going at once because it counts as 2 casters. If the mercs slot it in all 3 pets and in the poison debuff that would make it stack 4 times because each tier of pet counts as one caster. I hope this clears it up because I have tested and confirmed this using that power analyzer thingie.

Microsoft is running a technet subscription promotion where its $100 off for a 1 year subscription to technet. Normlly $349 but with the code its $249. Basically its access to alot of Microsoft software for 1 year. This might be good for the people who have multiple pcs at home because you can generate as many keys as you need. Just remember its for "testing" purposes only
. This will get you access to windows 7 faster than anywhere else. Promotion code is "TEYFY09" for US residents only. Source

Also I wanted to add for those with a connect account, you can beta the antivirus that microsoft has. So far its been good testing it. It seems light and doesnt have that bloat feeling that some antiviruses have.

So what is the best primary to use with pain?
[/ QUOTE ]
I am gonna say ninjas for the following reasons.
Painbring is single target damage buff, ninjas have the best single target damage when kept alive long enough to use it. Add perma-smoke flash to the mix and you get alot of damage.
Aoe Debuff needs to be done in melee, ninjas are melee pets.
Aoe buffs are best used where all the pets will be in melee, might as well be there too and use the aoe debuff.
When slotted correctly and the resistance/defense IOs procs, and taking everything but the rez power you basically turn ninjas into wp scrapper/stalker hybrid -
I like the idea but it needs to put a power in your tray so you can know when to use it and not let it be automatic because there are sometimes when rezing is just bad and makes things worse.

Pricing and Upgrade Info. Just so you all know its suppose to go RTM (release to manufactuers) this week. Right now the final build is in escrow and is being signed off on so the final code can be given to royalty oems (dell, gateway, hp, etc...).

I do think at some point in time defenders and corrupters will get another look in the damage department. I say this because the devs now realize its possible to create or alter a support AT and not have them do suck [censored] damage. Just look at VEATs and Doms (issue 15) respectively. So I guess the defender inherrent will get altered and scourge might change to happen more often.

I know people that have been actively playing for 4+ years and cant play worth a damn. Not pl'd. No farming. Lots of hot cat girl ERP. RPers seem to be the players that cant figure how to play.

What a load of stereotyping, discriminatory hogwash. Good job on generalizing RP'ers solely as cat girls and ERP'ers too.

I know exactly why they use it on the towers (Negates the buff) but it doesn't change the fact that the power is utterly useless for the other 99.99% of the game. Can you really say the same thing about Benumb, Infrigidate, Sleet, Heat Loss, and Snow Storm?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not particularly interested in your silly game but I'll play along. It amuses me. [Warning: Not for those with the inability to logically disassemble another person's point, particularly when the author of said point is simply satirizing one fanatic's nature by introducing another fanatical argument.]
Snow Storm:
On a fast team, toggle debuffs are meaningless as everything is dead by the time the power finishes animating. Against AVs, meaninglessly small debuff. So I guess it helps subpar teams? The power isn't useless, just not as useful in some situations.
Heat Loss:
Every been on a team with a particular vicious Brute? How about one with every base covered and no weaknesses? Yeah. They actually make using Fulcrum Shift hard because they kill everything but Bosses in their first two hits...and the Bosses are gone in follow-up. Without the FS buffs. Heat Loss has the exact same mechanic in play. The power isn't always necessary but it's very nice to have.
Benumb:
-Regen is largely meaningless in any setting. Particularly when it's ST and on a long timer. If your team needs the -Regen, it's either poor in general or playing beyond its means. Unless you're fighting a long-duration target, Benumb's other debuffs are extremely pointless except for particularly fragile meatshield situations as nothing else hits hard enough to justify the power's long recharge. On top of that, most enemies that would justify the power's use tend to resist the same damage they deal, reducing its strength just by association, ignoring what purple patch AND resistance does to it. The power isn't useless but it can help provide that extra edge when it's needed.
Infrigidate:
-DEF is pointless past the early levels. Even then, it's questionable through proper slotting (doesn't mean IOs, just knowing what to slot and how to slot it in which powers) and Beginner's Luck effects. Fire damage is surprisingly uncommon. The same ST debuff problems from Benumb persist with Infrigidate where the debuffs are not really an efficient use of endurance because of their miniscule effect. Better when your team is low in level and questionable efficiency as the team gets higher in level. It's an okay power, it just happens to not age very well for a Tier 1.
Sleet:
Again we come back to the "fast team". It unleashes some potent debuffing for 30 seconds. But what's the point when the team is already gone and done with the spawn? Unless your team is inherently on the weaker end, the debuff isn't applying to enough of the spawns, enough of the time, that are being attacked to justify waiting for it. Great power but when your team hits the critical mass point, it's just not fast enough or passive enough to justify while you're rolling along.
[/ QUOTE ]Castle should see this so maybe he can finally buff the set by lowering the recharge of the powers. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Which they'll never do because the buff portion is too damn good.
[/ QUOTE ]
Does Heat Loss buff anything besides recovery? Because if all we're talking about is infinite endurance for the entire team, Kinetics already provides that with Transference (and to a lesser extent with Speed Boost). If infinite endurance is too good, Transference needs to be nerfed a whole lot.
Personally, I figure they don't think infinite endurance is too good, so I think they should bring the recharge down by a minute or so. Either that or make it like Fulcrum Shift with regard to recharge and duration, but lower the target cap.
[/ QUOTE ]For me the turn off to this set was 2 things. One is the lack of self protection powers (sorry but arctic fog doesnt cut it against smashing lethal damage) and the stupidly long recharge on the really good powers. To me there is no reason why heat loss, benumb, heat exauhation, and melt armor need to have those stupidly long recharge. To me it seems like they did it because they were afraid it would pwn too much in pvp or something. The single target debuffs should recharge fast enough so that they are perma on at least 2 targets before slotting recharge. And the aoe debuffs should be on par with fulcrum shift. I agree with you on that infinite endurance shouldnt be an issue at all since kins already do this. I dont see it making us do uber damage even if you put both debuffs on when kins are still going to make the teams do more damage -

I know that Stalkers lay down the hurt on stuff, but is there a reason to role a Stalker if one isn't interested in straight solo play or PvP? What do Stalkers bring to the table that makes them worth partying with?
[/ QUOTE ]
Taking out troublesome LT's and even minions can be very helpful to many teams, especially if those Lt's/minions happen to have alot of debuff powers. Also, assisting in taking out the bosses of the spawn is another very helpful attribute to a Stalker.
All that said...however....I DO believe that somehow (I'm not sure how yet) we should be able to actually "defeat" bosses better than we currently do in the late game. Sure, in the early half of our careers we're taking out bosses within about 2-3 maybe 4 attacks, but that quickly goes away the higher in level we get. Personally, I just think that stinks. I've had many times were I've gone in to AS a boss, only to have a couple of Brutes and/or Corruptors deal just as much damage as I have and kill him before I can even get off a second attack. To me, that's a little disheartening.
I think it'd be nice if somehow the dev's gave us a little "boost" in our boss killing ability. Like I dunno, maybe give us an extra 50% chance in pve to deal a "double" AS or something, but only on Boss classes and above. I don't think that'd be asking for too much, and it would definately increase our usefulness while on teams for boss killing. Just a thought.
[/ QUOTE ]They tried this once before on test server but too many folks whined and said it was overpowered, and at the sametime it made it harder to kill stuff with lower hps. Because of the limitation of game engine they couldnt do it based on critter rank which would have totally made this a non-issue for us. Sigh...someday, maybe in CoH 2 we might get scaling AS or something. -
1. As many as you can summon at once.
2. will attack which target it has aggroed on. Will switch targets if multiples are around
3. you mean stun critters? Yes they do stack but its not worth the health drain on a defender. Damage buff is some what lower than that I am sure of. Its not going to be good as the scrapper version. -

Invisibe is a bad idea because not all mobs can get shifted based on how the person slots the power.
[/ QUOTE ]
1000 Stealth to target if target if PhaseShifted after a .5 second dellay
[/ QUOTE ]Its still a bad decision for invisible. I can see the team totally freaking out after the phase duration is over and all of sudden more critters appear.
For those who have this gawd awful power let me ask this, does domination boost it at all? I know this power is a bit screwy because the duration is fixed and enhancements increase the mag of the phase but shouldnt domination do the same thing? I just find it kind of retarded that it doesnt. While it would lead to the whole perma phasing of freedom phallanx I dont see how this is any different than just perma sleeping them. Its still a viable strategy. -
works but totally not worth it in this game. With -recharge its either all or nothing. So unless you got a powerset that can floor critter recharge I wouldnt even bother with this proc. You come out better with positron blast, impede swiftness proc and the purple target aoe proc that causes knockdown. This sloted with a few damage/slow enhancements from various slow sets actually makes caltrops into some nice aoe damage.

Team Teleport and Ninjas are made for each other. I set them on agressive and let them go as I TP from group to group with them. I rarely lose any and they melt mobs.
I do not have to do any ninja micromanaging with Team TP. They are exactly where I put them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ninja on aggressive?! *shudders* I have seen ninja run rampant if put in aggressive. It's rarely IMO worth doing.
[/ QUOTE ]I can agree with that. Due to the retarded AI I have to use goto aggressive on jounin and oni otherwise they never use their swords, all while keeping the genin on defensive follow. It might be different with team tp because they would already be in melee and use all their attacks. -

But i think all the AE farming really is making really bad players for the other content.
Don't get me wrong. I love PLing, farming, and IO'ing out my characters. I don't RP, i don't like telling anyone how to play there game. I just thought id say maybe those of us farmers out there can take a little more care in who we invite to our teams.
Last night i did a synapse TF on Freedom. A pretty well rounded team, balanced, and pretty fluent in terms of moving along at a good pace. Well, 8 people started, only 5 finished. We went down to 5 after about 45 mins. Players that were invited to a TF, who knew there were being invited to a TF that were going to be exemplared down to level 20, had no idea why they were getting no XP, and didn't even know the benefit of the task force commander accolade and 50 or so merits you get upon completion.
It's unbelievable what people get themselves into, with no regard for the team or task at hand.
I hate to blame AE, but it's hard not too.
So, all i am saying is....don't pl with the n00bs, they are probably leaching in your farms anyway.

[/ QUOTE ]This is why I ask and explain in very good detail before starting a tf with non-lvl 50s that are above the level of the TF. If they still dont understand they get booted from the tf before we even start. Now if they tried that [censored] with me and quit in the middle of the tf and its not a life threatning situation you better believe all of those folks would be black listed from here on out on all tfs. I will go the extra mile to ensure those players never do a tf on that server again, you better believe it. TFs are srsbns!!!!! -

A wild idea popped into my head today. What if Gravity's Dimnsion Shift power, not only rendered mobs intangible, but invisible as well? The biggest problem that DS has on teams is most people not understanding that the shifted mobs have been removed from the fight. Basically, players aren't sure who to attack and who to leave alone.
If DS removed the shifted mobs from sight (and un-targetable) then that confusion would end. Only the mobs that are visible would be available for attack. Those shifted mobs should probably become visible again, a few seconds before their intangibility drops. That way the team could prepare for the fight without being caught by surprise. Also perhaps turning this power into a toggle, so the caster can control exactly when the mob re-appears.
[/ QUOTE ]Invisibe is a bad idea because not all mobs can get shifted based on how the person slots the power. This power already causes hell on teams, they just need to make it so that shifted critters are untargetable instead then it would cut back on all the chaos this power creates.
