  1. It will certainly perform, as it were, with IOs in place, as will any set in CoX ... but, yeah, elec blast has long been a topic of complaint for many players (and also features a core of die-hard "leave my set alone there's nothing wrong with it dammit" supporters) as a set which doesn't quite spread the mustard the way other sets do.

And no it doesn't really sap an enemy to uselessness by itself - it helps to pair it with more elec or power boost or some-such. Unfortunately for you, you paired it with dev, a set which was never a top performer even *before* ED and which possibly suffered more than any other *due* to ED (its distinct advantage was allowing one to six-slot damage to make up for a lack of BU: ED gutted that but gave it no advantage to replace it) - so you're running on two cylinders.

But, like I said: the game is really easy as far as content goes - with a beefed up IO set or two you should still be able to plow through with relative ease, even if other blasters might plow through faster.

Goodness. I was angry last night.

Hamidon and mitos so far, nothing else. And I fully support that - it makes Hami an "Oooh!" special event.

*Poofing* PA into a killable target for such a large thing as the 50+ incarnate game would fall into the "hey! it seems we're still in beta!" category that such things as the global def nerf and ED fall into - while it's certainly possible (after all, lucas arts showed us that beta never really ends, no matter how much you pay!) it wouldn't exactly reflect well on a dev team that's trying to show us it's spicy mustard.
  4. Got that message on the second to last mission on the LGTF. We weren't worried at all. Hammi was almost down. No issue at all. And... complete!

Then... "Ten minutes until server shutdown...". Everyone on the team immediately says "What...?" According to the TF clock, it hadn't even been ten minutes since the first message.

"No worries!" says I. "To the final mission! I will port all to end, pull AVS, someone take down generators!"

"Sure thing!" says my awesome, flawless team. We can do this in ten minutes easy!

I speed to end, port team, pull AVs. First AB is down in a heartbeat and I pull honoree as he is going down. Blaster offs generators in seconds. There are easily five minutes to take down the Honoree.

Yes! We're home free! He's at a sliver of health and it's only been three minutes by the TF clock! According to the game's own mechanics, we have a full 120 seconds and his Invinc has already worn off!

And the server shuts down. Exactly 23 minutes from the first "it will be 30 minutes!" message.

With 80 seconds left on the clock the server itself provides for the tf.

    Yeah.

I want to congratulate our devs for finding an entirely new and original way of making an entire group of players scratch their heads and wonder why the hell they're playing. Even your own damn server clock doesn't agree with you. No, I mean this: congratulations. I've been playing MMOs for years and this has to be one of the best and most humorous "F-U"s I've seen. What could be more effective than having your own server clock tell a team it has plenty of time, then shutting down?

    Nothing, I say.

Well played, good sirs. Well played.
  5. Hey there - revisiting my widow lately now that I've a chance to really tweak her out with the new alpha slotting, and I've stumbled onto some questions. It's been a long time since I've been on the widow, so....

    1) Do the def/rech set IOs in Mindlink still give +rech to the power? It doesn't seem to be *quite* perma anymore, and it was when last i played it. I keep noticing it going down before the power recharges.

    2) ... I'm scattering enemies? With claws? Maybe this is some sort of bug, but I finally got enough global recharge into my slotting (thank you, cardiac alpha) to keep Spin up quite a bit... *finally*, I think to myself, I can go AoE with my widow at a decent pace! So I take the new build out and... everything scatters. I get the mob down to maybe 20% of its original number and *poof* everyone runs to the four winds. Ironically, it takes me *longer* now to off a mob set for 6 than it didn't *before* I put in all the recharge, because I'm having to chase down these mooks. Is this working as intended? I've never noticed my claws scrap scattering enemies no matter how often he busted out the spin.

    3) Are we screwed in the BAF and beyond thus far? Anyone tested this? I've hard a rough row to hoe on the new tip version DE... and was being told last night that the enemies in the new incarnate content make defense a running joke. If this is so, what are we defense-based folks to do?

Er... wha? Given that regular IO recipes along the lines of damage and recharge drop like rain when sololing, and each can sell for up to 100+k per, and one easily gets ten+ in a short run, what in heaven's name are you doing with that influence? I *never* play the market and 80 mill is next to nothing due to this game's inflated economy.

I don't want to be boxed into that. My Bots are retired, as are all my MMs, until this is fixed.
Same... it's not that I couldn't rework my build's IOs to place more def on the bots so they could handle AoE splash damage next to me as I taunt... but that's not the way I wanted to play my MM. Plus, it hurts to see the mindless buggy things in melee sending their cones off in three different directions, hitting one person each.
  8. Fie! I thought all of the existing tiers were unlockable for the "alpha" slot only, and all the others (judgment, etc.) would come in later issues.

Well crap. Lots of shards and nothing to do with them.
  9. Quick question:

I've unlocked the first two slots of the tree I want (rech/heal) but I don't see the third tier unlocking to tell me what I need to make the next level - why is that?
  10. 2 questions actually:

I just slotted the 1st tier of spiritual into my alpha slot on my troller - I had his combat attribute for overall recharge being monitored at the time and I noticed that when I slotted it the number didn't move at all - why would that be?

Second, on an SR character, if one is at the soft cap for defense is it worth slotting the alpha for defense anyway? Since so many teams run vs. +3s and such I notice I am getting pounded even at the soft cap. Wouldn't the extra def help against DE, AVs, etc?
  11. After that many views and no replies in City of Min/Max (tm), I'm assuming most are simply thinking "What, you didn't pair it with /shield? Not worth a response."

    Ah, well.
  12. So, without getting into major overall build posting:

My brute, as it stands, sort of focuses on +rech and def where I can get it - I'm *almost* capped for all types (am capped for ranged already) but I am working without Jacob's Ladder or Chain Induction - I have good AoE cycling Dark Oblit, Thunder Strike and LR... I've been going without a travel power or aid self.... now I am respecing for the fitness pool changes and here's the question:

How tasty are chain induction and jacob's ladder these days? What's more important - grabbing both or one of them or working aid self into my build? I've been riding on a couple of chance-for-heal IOs slotted in charged brawl and havoc punch - if I take Jacob's Ladder I can slot another but until I get my recharge through the roof the procs won't really go off enough to keep my on my feet vs high lvl mobs without aid self coming in....

What are you Elec/SR brute's thoughts on this? Is soul mastery real necessary or can I go without an Epic pool and put in more AOE from these two missing attacks? Is not having a ranged blast too irritating?

    Help!
  13. Howdy folks. I've been away for quite some time (hello to those who recall me) and, having just returned, I am trying to get used to some changes.

One of the things I'm doing is trying to update my Ill/Rad for I19 fun (thanks to Local Man for his advice which is pretty much everywhere one looks for it) but I am having an issue...

My Phantasm no longer acts like he is a ranged pet. Used to be he and I would hover above the action and blast away together, which was perfect as it made good use of his decoy phantasm, allowing it to take aggro during those brief periods which PA wasn't up...

No he just immediately rushes into melee (to blast... weirs) and, in almost every fight involving any AoE or what not, dies, thus removing his decoy and pretty much centering attention on me.

Is this par for the course now? Is it a mistake? I hope it's a mistake.

    Back to Basics

Be sure to slot 1 acc 5 dam in all your attacks!

Go out and get LUCKY tonight. Hell, don't wait til tonight. Get lucky now... If you don't have a freebie that the devs were handing out, you may have to pay for it. It will be the best 10 bucks you spend getting lucky- I can almost guarantee it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heh... I'll just take it as my last power (I'm lvl 47 currently) ... no need to drop a power or respec.

Edit: I can't drop any attacks anyway - The first two tier attacks are my bread and butter with their procs, and gloom (which rounds out my ST attack chain) is needed to get Dark Obliteration... which rounds out my AoE attack chain and makes me a herding beast.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
drop havoc and get chain induction (same damage, faster animation, aoe potential.)

    [/ QUOTE ]
No can do. There's a proc in Havoc which keeps me on my feet, and CI won't accept it.
  17. My gawd...

High global +rech bonuses from IOs... soft capped defenses in all save AoE (because I'm lazy and wanted more +rech) ... hasten .... a primary that doesn't use much endurance and, thus, can support non-stop spammage of those attacks... and gloom added in for a decent ST attack chain in addition to its incredible AoE potential.

I ditched both JL and Chain Induction and chose to go with GW's patron pool for gloom and dark obliteration - now I have a decent ST attack chain with just gloom and the first two elec attacks, and DO rounds out my AoE nicely (and has a 16 target cap! Woohoo!) when combined with TS and LR... and all that sweet, sweet recharge...

I'm in love. I've come to the point that I herd up to the aggro cap just to see how much I can demolish in one go.

So, a question: I lack "Lucky". So I lack the full scaled damage resist that comes with all three passive (and, of course, my AoE def remains sub capped.... it's sitting at 37%.)...

Since i'm soft capped in ranged and melee (46% and 48% respectively, or near it)... do I even need Darkest Night? Is there any reason short of "it'll take a bit of damage off the one or two hits that get through"?

Or should I just take lucky for that extra AoE edge and more resist scaling?

Whatever the case... this toon is already a god. It's sick.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Do not try to tank with a blaster.

Do not try to herd the entire map, even though thats not possible anymore.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well... you're just no fun at all. :P

My MMs get bored if they can't exceed the aggro cap and nothing sayis lovin' like scaring the hell out of your team by running your blaster up to a mob and opening up with a cone from 20 feet away... only to have them realize you're sonic/* and everything is now asleep.

See, it's the neverending blatant trollish posts like this that ensure people from freedom and virtue continue being hostile to those of the other servers, ensuring they remain barren wastelands. Some people just can't empathize with others I guess, who just wanted to play their favourite guys and were having troubles with it, I guess

    [/ QUOTE ]

At the same time, did you see the posts from people on Freedom?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I've seen a lot of over-the-top whinging posts covering the connection trials and tribulations over the weekend. I'm not myopic enough to spin them into a respresentation of the whole of the complaint (not to imply you are, but it's been the overall reaction to the complaints). However, doing so is a great gamer passtime, so expect more "Crai moar". It's easier than thinking.

I have to admit, as a Virtue player, when I experienced the performance over the weekend I expected many forum posts of many sorts, but I didn't expect the general "Oh, just shut the [censored] up about it, most of us had fun" that the whole thing received. (Well, okay, to be honest, it's a gaming forum, I expected that a *littel bit* for every post.)

This is just one of those "Shubbie took the helm" issues wherein people have an easy quotable scapegoat to address whenever the complaint seems to valid. "Yeah you may not have really gotten the same benefit from the weekend as other paying customers, but... look! Over there! Shubbie posts like an idiot!"

Meh, if double xp weekends were a more common event it'd be a bigger deal. I just didn't expect quite so simple minded an overall reaction on the forums - you usually have a smattering of posters who don't go the facile route of quoting Shubbies and posting lulz over and over. Instead, even the most evenly-worded posts are getting spun into "whining" - it's very WoW. Reminds me of the "I catch your tears in a cup" fad over there.

Anyway, as it looks as thought it's not viewed as an issue worthy of a nod by the powers above, players will know in the future and won't go in blind. They'll know, depending on how future transfers go, that if they play on one server with their friends exclusively and it's a loaded one, they'll either need to roll on a new server with some PuGs for the weekend or just chill out until Monday.

In hindsight, I spent it trying to play my 3 "in play" alts on Virtue, and spent most of the weekend getting dropped during zones ins, having my team wipe under heavy server lag, and watching my mates drop right and left.

It was "Double D/C weekend" - If I'd had any alts currently in play on a smaller server, I guess I would have had a positive experience. Unfortunately, I had the misfortune to roll on Virtue at release and I keep developing mains there.

I gave up Sunday morning - it wasn't worth the hassle. Here's hoping that the next double xp weekend will occur on hardware able to handle it, so those of us on big servers don't get shafted.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow, I find that really surprising,

    [/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't surprise me at all - a friend of mine here in CHicago ran all weekend on Virtue and only got dropped once. Another friend in Australia couldn't run on Virtue at all, he never got on, but he could get on the other servers just fine. Apparently different peeps experienced different things: those friends of mine with poor machines had a very hard time.

My experience wasn't positive, but I'm going to cease posting about it, as all laments over those on Virtue and Freedom have been firmly labeled under "Shubby" and are getting laughed off - people first reaction is to say "Well it was fine for me, stop whinging."

It's not a huge deal, it's XP in a video game. I'm just disheartened to know that the next one will be the same, that if I want to play what I like I need to transfer it to a server where I don't have an SG yet, etc. Multiple people have mentioned getting dropped repeatedly, being unable to log on, and trying to complete TFs and missions under killer rubberbanding. There was obviously an issue.

This is one of those times when enough folks had a good time that no one really wants to hear from those who had an issue.
