Phantasm's behavior....

Howdy folks. I've been away for quite some time (hello to those who recall me) and, having just returned, I am trying to get used to some changes.

One of the things I'm doing is trying to update my Ill/Rad for I19 fun (thanks to Local Man for his advice which is pretty much everywhere one looks for it) but I am having an issue...

My Phantasm no longer acts like he is a ranged pet. Used to be he and I would hover above the action and blast away together, which was perfect as it made good use of his decoy phantasm, allowing it to take aggro during those brief periods which PA wasn't up...

No he just immediately rushes into melee (to blast... weirs) and, in almost every fight involving any AoE or what not, dies, thus removing his decoy and pretty much centering attention on me.

Is this par for the course now? Is it a mistake? I hope it's a mistake.

As far as I know, there hasn't been a confirmation of whether it's a bug or WAI, but it's not just Phantasm. All controller and MM pets seem to like melee much more often now whether they have any reason to or not.

I sent a PM to Castle. He acknowledged that Phanty's behavior of running into melee is a problem with a LOT of other pets, too, and that it is "on the radar to be fixed." That means they know about the bug, intend to fix it but have no promises on when it will get fixed.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Its a problem that is making Masterminds a headache to play also. Pets are just charging into melee to punch AV's then standing there to die. Sometimes they will respond to a goto command for a few seconds until their brawl recharges, sometimes they wont and sometimes they decide that the best thing to do would be to ignore all of your commands and run past the next 2 groups to go punch a guy in a swarm 3 groups over and then run back pulling all the agro onto you and your now very upset team even though you had your pets on Defensive/Follow.

They really need to get this bug addressed ASAP, its really killing the fun of pet classes.

Of course, back in the day, Rocky stood at range and heaved boulders, Jack Frost pelted baddies with snowballs and the Fire Imps attacked everything on the map in a manner calculated to cause maximum aggro.

Okay, two out of three of those examples were problematic because the pets never went into melee unless tricked. The AI was adjusted and voila! pets who should stay at range, like Phanty and Singy, rush into melee and Hilarity Ensues.

Look for Pet AI Mark III, being the third try, hopefully to be the charm. Or not.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
