The new method of claiming veteran rewards is 20x worse than the old one.

The awards are not quite in order. You start at the bottom. You should get sands of mu or ghost slaying axe first. Then nemesis staff or blackwand. Then one of the others. You don't, you get NS/BW then other then SoM/GSA meaning I picked SoM off the wrong one so had to take GSA when I wanted nem staff. It was so much easier with the months linked to the clearly displayed award before.

You can't view the whole title of the award without highlighting it (you could before), you can't get as many on the screen as once as you used to. I just find this current design takes 3 times as long and I never made a mistake with the old method. Please rethink this and either revert it or improve it. Being able to adjust the widths of the columns so you could see the whole title would help as would being able to expand the top part of the email window so you could get more than 4 titles in it at a time (I used to see a hell of a lot more).

The claim all feature is utterly useless because I don't want the extra sprints cluttering up my powers screen, no way to delete those and claim the rest.

All in all I see the way this has been implemented as a big step backwards from what we had before in both functionality and user friendliness.
Oh, and I agree that the new way is not entirely to my liking, Minotaur.
It seems to be better for people who like to "claim all" in one swoop, but for picking through it one-by-one, it is very unfriendly.

However you can adjust the width of the inbox columns to see the entire subject name. I know it doesn't look like you can, but go to the header at the top and pull it... voila! It does it.
I still agree that there are not enough shown vertically... it's very small and not great and I noticed the order as well.
At least we can change the width though.

    Fantastic!
Thank you for getting word on that to us!

I hope the SG emblems/banners get fixed by then as well!
  3. I think you will find many that agree that a lot of the prices are too high for their liking.
I am indeed one of them.

As one example, I agree with your assessment of the Costume Slot prices.
I'd love to have those, but not at that price and not at the current sale's price either.
To each their own, of course. I am hopeful that the selling of things will show them to shift the prices a bit lower. Perhaps they are even just grabbing what they can from the immediate crowd that is willing to pay those prices... and then we'll be able to get them some time soonish, down the road. I have no problem with that, really. I only know that *I* feel like some of the prices are too high (even if it is not large amounts of money, I still measure things by my personal value and won't budge on that).

You shouldn't receive any flames for your respectful post.
And you should check out the ongoing feedback thread for the market prices... I don't have a link handy at the moment or I'd post it.

It continues to give free content of a sort to the subscribers, but at the start they at least gave a few more perks and wanted a bit less money.
Just to be fair, they did give us bonus points to basically take our pick of "free" stuff.
Plus there are things that are free to VIPs that are not to others (Time Manipulation, for one).
  4. So, I see where the big divide is...
It works great for claiming all (so long as you cut out the Incarnate shtuff)...
But it is quite bad for going through and picking each thing you wish (and ignoring what you don't currently want).

As I fall into the later camp... My main problem with it is the Email Inbox window is just so damn small. And if I try and increase the email window size, it only increases the email section, not the inbox.
So, I have a small amount of tiny email subject lines to pick and scroll through.

    I hateses it.

So, yeah... maybe I'll just claim all from now on.

And yeah... I really dislike that the Incarnate bought account items are not applied to the account and that we have to select them on each and every character. Porquoi??? Porquoi????
  5. To, hopefully, add another little bit of fairness to this...

Just because it worked with the team makeup before, doesn't mean that it is the new tank's fault.
It sounds like the damage wasn't capable of taking things out before the enemies overwhelmed the group.
If the only difference was the trade of a Scrapper for the Tank... it is quite possible that it was the damage difference being the reason (many other factors, of course, could be the reason... players not doing enough can cause weird things, whether it is support or damage or control).

I'm only saying this because it has been tossed out there that the team was successful before with the same strategy, so it must be the Tank's fault... but, no. That's not true nor fair.
Regardless of who was at fault in this particular case, the fact that the only difference was the Tank does not mean it is the Tank's fault.

A SR/MA Tank can't make up the damage of... well, any Scrapper. And if enough people aren't making up for that lost Scrapper's damage... it could change the entire approach.

    It's not rocket surgery!

Exactly. I was hoping not to sound like I was focusing on the negative aspect of "clique" so much as just that it is difficult to find it.
And then, indeed, it can be difficult to sustain it when you've not formed a bit of a connection and share playing times and such.

Another aspect, the whole "these characters already have set connections and stories and new people won't fit in", is completely understandable and it does work that way with some players/characters, but I know that me and my friends always try to be inclusive and, honestly, I much prefer to focus on stories that every and all characters can feel a part of.
Then let each and everyone find their own facets of these stories that they may want to delve into deeper and such.

I don't know, I guess that is one reason why I enjoy sticking to super hero stuff with blueside (although, with the proper set ups and right approach, it works for any morality). The group responds to an emergency, they piece together some clues, they discover some diabolical plot (sometimes it will involve greater ramifications/connections with certain individuals and that can fracture off into sub-plots involving one, more, all the characters and their relationships), they encounter the main villain behind the plot... yada yada... Not like there is a strict formula to adhere to, but -more so- just some solid tie-ins for heroes to get involved in.
Then it is mostly up to the individual players to pull more out of it with (and for) each other.
We've had a history in our SG, but it never stopped others from joining in, because the history was just there, but not in the way of new, continued and more stuff to get involved in.

EDIT: I guess what I am trying to say is...
So long as everyone involved is trying and willing to be open, include others and be there for open RP that involves everyone, having history between some of the characters really only helps to provide a greater backdrop to continued RP.
To me, it is somewhat like Star Wars: A New Hope. We are shoved into a story/world with a ton of history that we don't have force-fed/explained to us at all. Yet, it is just that which makes it a marvelous experience... to be thrown into the middle of things that has such depth and history, yet is still moving forward.
I guess that is the trick... people who have history and such have to make sure to keep pushing it forward and being active with new characters and new stories.

Of course, I haven't been playing a lot nor making any RP events/AE stuff in a while, so I'm a bad one to look to in order to pull things together these days.

My apologies if my rambling is not on-topic nor helpful, hehe.

    Out of curiosity

I don't have solid/concise answers for you, but I think what has gone on for a long while is that most RPers are somewhat locked into their group of RPers (often times SGs and/or coalitions) and difficult to find, locate, interact with.

The "roleplayers" and "Virtue RP" (I think) are two global channels to join to hopefully OOCly hook up and meet people to RP with.

Of course, none of this is absolute.
As the population on this server increased, the amount of nonRPers seemed to increase a bit more (as far as in-team PuG RP and/or out-and-about/free-form interactive RP).

I'd guess that there are more blueside RPers, but it is also possible that the concentration of redside RPers are higher percentage.

I hope that my non-answers may help you figure out how to find what you're looking for, hehe.

RP got a bit segmented into cliques... although, I don't think people refuse outsiders... there are just so many places/zones to be in and go to... including bases!

Atlas Park is a place people sometimes go to try and bump into others.
Pocket D is there for both sides to do the same, but carries the nightclub connotation (and I never seem to have characters that have any interest in such places).
Every Thursday night, one of my SG mates runs an RP mission event that begins with open RP in the Midnighter Club on the Steel Canyon side.

I just recently attended a nice RP event at an orchestral concert that someone posted on the forums. A few people have been trying to get events up and running to initiate more RP interactions and help the RP community connect and have fun.

    As always, I suggest...
Be the RP that you wish to see in the game.

Best of luck and I hope to see you around!
(Feel free to check out the Paragon Universe... although, we have indeed shrunk in size and activity... we still have some great people... and more have been returning recently too... and we're always welcoming more)

The same goes for Khelds and VEATs... their powers come from a distinct source of Lore outside of the player.
    While I understand your position...
I disagree with the developers' idea to pigeon-hole the incarnate powers visually.
That's fine that they chose to go a route that had a concise lore aspect, but allowing the adherence to that lore to be a decision on the players' part is a beautiful thing for giving the freedom to the player and allowing them to craft the untold tales within their minds and make those greater connections to the game that they play, vs. following the strict doctrine of how and why they got the new powers.

Seeing that they did go with that storyline direction... they really didn't have to tie it into the visuals as well. It wouldn't take away from adhering to the lore, if there was no visual tie-in. And it takes away from disconnecting from that lore tie-in.

    Obviously we disagree!
Opinions are opinions and ours differ on this.

And I'd say it falls into the category of unobvious!
  11. While there certainly are some people who are pre-fabricated jerks...

Often times, what happens is a combination of misfired intentions and interpretations and hasty assessments/judgments made that are often unfair/incorrect assumptions.

People often do this as though they never make any missteps of their own.
You know how it is... that person who just pulled into your lane when they really should have let you go by first... There wasn't even anyone else behind you! Bah! What a complete and utter moron I can't believe they let these people drive!!

Hey, there sure are a ton of terrible drivers...
But not every person that cut you off, left their signal on, didn't notice the light turn green, and so on and so forth... is always making those mistakes.
You may have just been behind Mr. Smith who's never made a single driving mistake before. Lucky you!
How many people have been behind you when you made a little mistake... and probably was cursing your name? It happens!
Grown ups, mature, level-headed people, recognize these truths and get over the immediate frustration.
All is well... maybe that driver in front of me doesn't always make mistakes! Maybe they just came back from a funeral! Who knows! It's all good. They didn't side-swipe me, it wasn't even dangerous, let's move on.

Try not to make over-arcing assumptions about people just from very small missteps,

Many people seem to love trying to put others in a box. As though they have this excellent ability of profiling other people... It is quite phenomenal when this ability is so potent through casual chat in an mmorpg.
Then they apply those assumptions into their further interactions.
    It can get ugly quickly.

I like giving people the benefit of the doubt. I like giving people another chance.
I like being open-minded and allowing people who've made a mistake or misspoke or whatever prove themselves and I like it when they relax and have a good time right alongside everyone else having a good time.

    It's really not that difficult.
  12. So...

We're getting space combat, but it is on rails?

Okay, okay, clearly the message has been decoded! 'Bout time!
    Err... 'bout justice, I mean.
  13. I understand where you're coming from, Liquid, but it's simply based on your billing date (or, it is supposedly going to be, after the 11th).
Remember that the Rewards Tokens have taken care of a vet's length of prior subscription. The points are just tie to our billing date. Plus, people with late billing dates received their first allotment early!
So, that concern goes both ways, I suppose.

Some of them I know I'll never want - like the prestige sprints, which I only use on certain characters. The toons who use plain old vanilla Sprint don't need those cluttering up their enhancement screen. But unless I claim them, that red indicator will keep staring at me forever. Eventually I'm sure I'll learn to ignore it, but still if someone emails me I won't know unless I happen to open the email menu for something else. ARGH!!
I think there is an option, somewhere in the general options, that will prevent the red-letter notice from unclaimed account rewards.
I've not checked it myself, but I recall it being mentioned.
  16. It appears that, due to the dates of the Head Start and such, no one will get points until October 11th.
This is according to a customer service response that another person received and shared:

    Quote:
    Hello again,

Due to the launch of Head Start in the middle of September, the next Paragon Points rewards for VIP accounts have been pushed back to Oct. 11. Any accounts that received bonuses on Sept. 14 will need to wait until then, regardless of their monthly billing cycles.

Paragon Reward Tokens should continue to be granted based on total monthly activity for an account, including referrals and other bonuses granted in the past. This could cause this reward to be granted on an irregular schedule.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.
  17. Agreed! This has always bugged me. When I enter a zone with a mission, I'd rather not have to switch my waypoint back to my mission, thank you! And it is only worse now, in regards to new players under Freedom.

Now, I honestly believe that getting the radio is important and should be clearly presented to the new player.
I love using the radio/newspaper. That's just my preference and enjoyment (not to use it exclusively, but I do love generic content as I explore my own character's story outside of greater story arcs... again, just my brand of fun). There are bound to be other new players that will feel the same way... So, keeping a way to properly introduce the radio/newspaper is important!

And, here we have a great additional suggestion/solution:

Nerfing implies a Status Quo has been changed. There is no Status Quo here yet to be changed.
Perhaps it is just me chafing against my outdated definition of "nerfed".
If you replace nerfed with reduced to under-powered-ness, you can see that those lines of live/beta have no bearing.

Regardless it still makes no sense to describe a pre-release beta test modification to a powerset as a "nerf" in any context.

Hehe, "objective standards" was coming from a point far outside that of "as players".
Of course developers craft and fine-tune their games as they see fit.
Just as a king may off his wives' heads and have it be legal, outsiders can still have objective opinions on it.

I could go into why the term could be applied to a beta period, but... do any of us really want to bother?

    Exactly.

In fact, more importantly, I recognize now that it has become a standard distinction and, while I may disagree with its conception (so-to-speak), I cannot debate its acceptance!
And, since I am within the realm of this accepted usage, I adhere and adapt to it!

I honestly had never heard/read that distinction, but having read these replies and searched about it a bit more, I see that it has taken these meanings.

Of course, the idea that the beta period does not count could still be debated, haha.

Again, none of this has the slightest importance! Merely a tangential conversation of semantics and such.

And I was behind the times on its accepted usage.

The word you are looking for here is balanced. When something is in beta it is being tested.
When something is created, tested, then changed, it's been balanced. In other words weighted against other powers in the set, and in whatever values it's meant for in use within the available character choises (in this case ATs), and weighted with its use in game.

Nerf happens only after players have been using a particular power in a live scenario and its believed to already be balanced or working as intended. Even then, since placing something in a live game environment can still end up utilized in previously unforseen ways, the devs can go in and continue to balance it.

To the devs, they're balancing the power, to the players its a nerf now, only because its been live and being used that way.

You can't nerf something when its in beta, that's what beta is for, testing things out.
See, this is exactly the incorrect usage of "nerfed" that is now going on further and to create more odd "rules" of its misuse.

Nerfing is not simply when things have been reduced. Yes, overzealous players use it as such... just as people regularly misuse many words of their languages...
Nerfing is a rare instance in which the developers actually did go too far (by objective standards) in the reduction of something's effectiveness.

Only by holding onto a false meaning of "nerf" do people connect it to time and emotional investment.

    Weird.

Anyway, I'll likely be the only one adhering to any such thoughts, so I must be wrong.
  24. I've never heard the definition include the underlined part of "...that worked one way for a while".
And, honestly, based on the origin and meaning of the term, I don't agree with that.
Haha, no big deal, but yeah... If something was awesome in beta and then got changed to be vastly under-powered, the term "nerfed" applies by any standard of reasoning I can think of as well as any urban dictionary references I've read. I've never applied emotional and/or player-time-investment into the judgment of "nerfed or not" and I think such inclusion makes things messy (which, maybe, is why the term gets used when it shouldn't... any time somethign is reduced people use the term "nerfed", as opposed to only when it has truly been made under-powered).

Anyway, honestly, just another interesting distinction I'm seeing people make in this thread that I'd not seen before and (thus far) don't agree with.

I challenge thee to a nerf duel!
  25. Agreed, Forbin.
