That is, when players point out something as a real problem, the devs ignore that feedback because everything else they do is greeted by players with the same amount of vitriol.

I have no problem with players reporting major issues, but I (and, I suspect, the devs and community team) am annoyed by the refrain we've heard constantly from the players lately that "the devs are stupid" and "the devs don't care" and "it's all the ebil marketing soots fault lolz." The more you trash the development team and insult them, the less likely they are to value your opinion. Indeed, I suspect that player opinions are now considered the worthless griping of a group of tantrum-prone infants around Paragon Studios. No wonder design decisions aren't based on them.

All of this just exacerbates the existing perceptual chasm between developers and consumers. (For instance, the team believes large-group raids are the foundation of a strong, committed player community, while players seem to focus on other kinds of community-building, such as global chat channels. Similarly, story-focused players are looking for a postmodernist, manga-like story, as well as having an idiosyncratic checklist of pet peeves, while the story team is more interested in telling a political morality tale. These are just examples.) Unlike many players, I recognize that I am not the one creating the game, so I expect to be subjected to the creator's own fixations, interests, and priorities. However, I think it would go a fair ways toward placating the increasingly angry player base if they were told in no uncertain terms that players do not take part in development or set priorities. Mechanisms like betas are designed for mechanical stress testing, not so players can have input on the game's published form. This is a fundamental truth that very, very few people seem to grasp.
I understand where you're coming from...
However, there is zero way you can paint this scenario and not have it be the fault of the development team/company.

I'm not excusing obnoxious behavior, but professionals in this industry know how customer feedback works... and they have to know how to handle actual bug concerns and the like.
I don't think it is remotely correct to pin blame on forum-posters.
If any development team were so out of sync to ignore actual bug problems reported in betas, simply because they're sick of forum whining... They're not capable of doing their jobs.
Anyway, don't anyone read that previous sentence as me saying this company is not capable of doing their jobs, hehe... I have no idea what is going on over there.

I am displeased with the quality of service after this last publish. Not sure what else I can say about it at this point.

Best of luck, Paragon Studios! We'll be here when you sort this stuff out!

And what is so odd about all of that is... Afterward, the critics killed him every time he tried to do comedies again. Hudson Hawk, especially, but also Bonfire Of The Vanities and North.
However, 12 Monkeys was a great role for him that may have helped him get some other dramatic roles later on.

I'll chip in with Harrison Ford doing Regarding Henry.
Not that I think this was an attempt to break a stereo-type, so much, but it was a true craftsman ditching his box-office cool-guy leading man mystique.

  6. Heroes quickly discover that, due to the number of psychics within Paragon City, the game of guess what number I am thinking of does not work so well.

  7. You'll find there are a number of people who absolutely love Electric/Electric Blasters (actually, Elec/Elec/Elec for the E3 Blaster)... And I am absolutely one of them.
I have not played Electric Blast with any other powerset combo, but I enjoy my E3 Blaster so much, it is hard to contain myself when I start talking about it!

I generally play my E3 Blaptroller all the time, so it's hard for me to give feedback as to how it compares to other blasters, but I find the damage more than adequate, the control (I have three holds) amazing, the sapping wonderful (Short Circuit and Power Sink and everyone is out of End and ready for me to finish them off), the melee from Electric Manipulation is superb...
The AoE is actually quite good (if not better)...
I use the first two blasts quite a lot, even in melee range (where I enjoy being).

    I love the versatility.
That is what it has over pure raw damage, I'm sure. However, it is STILL a Blaster set and it still brings the damage.
I can snipe, I can shoot holds from distance, I can leap in and drain endurance and punch and blast, I can toss ball of lightning for some nice AoE damage (along with Lightning Field, Short Circuit and Static Discharge... Thunder Strike for a tiny bit of splash damage and mitigation)...
And Voltanic Sentinel is actually quite a potent increase to your damage over time, if you're concerned about such things.
I've certainly found activating that before bigger opponents makes things go by just that much quicker.

Oh, and it is very nice to use the Thunderous Blast nuke, pop a small blue, Power Sink a survivor (or someone from the next group) and have all my endurance back.

I've been 50 for a long while, but I thoroughly enjoyed the powers all throughout leveling.

To top it off... As great as all of that is, I happen to think it looks and sounds fantastic as well.
Just my opinions, but I am extremely happy with these opinions!

If any of this sounds fun to you... go for it!

    ZAP ZAP!!

    EDIT:
A common complaint about Electric Blast is that it is lackluster without its companion secondary. That may be true... but I do know that the flipside of that is that it is wonderful with its companion secondary!

I'd say all that was missing was confidence/conviction in your costume.

I make the bestest costumes in the world ever (I keed, I keed!), but I don't always win every costume contest (I've filed a few lawsuits over it, but no victories yet)!

You probably know all this though and are just looking to redesign, but whatever... I've been away from the forums for a bit and felt I had to post something!

    Emotes question

What you are referring to is probably people using the strafe key instead of the forward movement.
If you use A or D (by default), the character walks somewhat to the side, which would make them appear something like what you describe.
    Hope that helps!
  10. I don't go trying these games these days, myself, but you remind me of some of my past experiences (albeit brief ones!)...
And I think the worst problem for most other games is how you not only have to piece together your new armor, bit by bit or whatever... but you need that upgraded/better armor in order to take part in the content that will earn you the next needed upgraded/better armor... and so on and so on...
I've never stuck with a game like that.

I really only enjoyed one other mmorpg before CoH and it was very much a sandbox and nonlinear.

I happen to love the basic gameplay in CoHF (cough cough) and that is a very large reason why I play it... But another large reason and great thing that they did here is not only do you not have to earn some precious loot to keep your character on par... You're not going to be locked out of playing at your level because you didn't follow the mandated progression to get there (If you didn't get the loot to make the BlahBlahBlah Armor, then you can't survive fighting the Booglar Monsters -whose hides you need- in order to get the Greater Booglar Armor).

I guess this is why the Incarnate system chafes a bit for many of us.
It skirts this very line, that some of us detest.
Fortunately, it's still not as extreme as what we're referencing from other games... Plus it is only at the endgame as well, which makes it more tolerable.
Anyway, I'm not looking to attack the endgame system with that... just saying there's a bit more of a similarity between it and other games than the rest of the game's enhancement system.

Maybe try playing non-mmos for your other games, Sam? Space Invaders is fun!

Haha, I was thinking about that when I typed that... But it is called the "Spring Fling", no? (Am I misremembering?)
And it's not that far away from Spring.
Still, it does indeed start in the winter. I'm not sure how long they leave it running though...

    (No, not seriously).

While we do wish to maintain a certain amount of exclusivity to these items, we also believe that everyone should, eventually, have an opportunity to share in the fun. We're going to remain very watchful as to how soon is too soon to offer these costume powers outside of events, but I would expect to see any future Convention/M&G/Player Summit codes offered in the market...eventually.
I've gotten codes by attending some M&Gs, but I've never gotten to spend time with you, Zwill... Unless we use a time machine to bring you back to the two East Coast M&Gs! That was an awesome time... Hope Biff doesn't get into trouble for letting us borrow Marty's car!

  15. I think a bunch of people are reading way too much into that comment.

The Pirate costume could be made entirely through the use of existing costume pieces (minus the parrot).
People used that as a point of contention (harsh criticism) when it was put into the store for a sizable amount of points/money (what many expressed was over-priced).
I believe that what Ghost Falcon was saying is that they're not going to be trying to sell costume powers that are costumes that we could replicate already. It's not that complicated and doesn't create a whole slew of rules or problems or open up any can of worms... Hehe.
I don't believe they'll be concerned about designing new costume parts that may eventually break the "rule" of the comment he posted.
  16. I almost get what you're saying, the way you're saying it... Possibly, maybe, sort of... Although I am not entirely convinced that the reasons you state for WWF/WWE's success are accurate (they may be, I'm not sure it is just that).

    Regardless...
Going along with what you're saying: A huge factor for the WWF's launch into major success was the talent... the very unique and somewhat extraordinary talent that arrived in the 70s and 80s. Physical specimens and/or super charismatic talents such as Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, Iron Sheik, Roddy Piper, Randy Savage, John Studd, Bundy, British Bulldogs, George Steele, Brett Hart... The huge, agile, remarkable and charismatic showmanship gave them a roster of characters that you dream of...
Here's a big difference, and one greatly in CoH's favor: They control and create their superstars (game features, additions, stories, anything and everything) into anything they could desire.
They need to take those pillars and make the right moves with them and not give up with them
    Easy to say. Mistakes happen.
Mission Architect should be a great pillar in this game. That's a tough situation, as things kind of got twisted and turned with the way some of the playerbase took to it. Maybe some mistakes were made in its delivery. I'm certainly not saying it isn't a great thing, but maybe it should be focused on to be made even greater. If that's the kind of thing you are saying... I hear you. I agree with it.
And I'm not saying that as though I think the Devs are failing nor the game is hurting or anything. Better is better and that's always the best way to go, hehe. Even if better means making sure you stay the same. As staying the same doesn't always happen by staying still.
When they released the Mission Architect, they had the focus of the video game world on them. And rightfully so. It drew a lot of attention, especially from potential subscribers who sought a way to create content for such a game. I'm not sure (honestly "not sure") how many of those people we caught and maintained... and how many left because it didn't match up to their expectations, or the overwhelming farming disappointed them or the lack attention towards improving the creation and story aspects of the MA by the developers and, instead, the focus of curtailing and limiting the quick advancement achievable through the system.
And where is the MA/AE focus these days?
Power Customization? Similar, on a far lesser scale, but perhaps equal or greater popularity (Power Pools, Epic Pools, EATs? Ever? Soon? Some day before Golden Girl goes grey?)?

Anyway, I'm saying this from a point of improving/maintaining a great thing, not from a point of criticizing and calling for improvements if they want to succeed, hehe.

Not sure this reply is worth it, but... what is?

  18. Hrm, I just always thought that the Voids were so resourceful, determined and adept at working their way anywhere and everywhere Khelds may be.
And, since you are a Kheld in Praetoria, I'd say that they can be there too.
Just my thoughts about it, but don't take my quick reply as though I'm completely dismissing anyone else's personal opinion about it.

"Hey, is it easier to just have them summon existing models, or to tweak the models so they're transparent and add ghostly auras to them? Easier to just leave the models as is instead of changing them? Hey let's change them!"

    What are you guys thinking.
I could be wrong, but I think the history is actually that... With the initial selection of Lore Pets (It was, what... only four branches? And all Praetorian NPCs), the ghostliness was added in during beta to actually help
them fit into the concept. I am not sure if they planned to have them transparent or if it was something that came about due to feedback during beta.
Don't get me wrong... I, personally, feel that all of the Incarnate Powers break this aspect of the beauty of open customization vs. shoehorning all of our concepts into one specific path within the lore.

However, I believe that the ghostliness was actually a successful attempt at helping (as having straight-up normal-looking Praetorian NPCs as your henchmen was weirder than ghostly images from the well...).

    Anyway...

I would LOVE to see non-ghostly pets since there is a wide selection available now.
  20. Oi! You know what... I misread the last bit of your post, your royal Gobliness!!

  23. Hehe, side-tangents!! Woohoo!
Yeah, you know, it does have a lot to do with what character (and I mean character concept) you're experiencing the game through and what level of capability you imagine they should have.
The Electric-Knight is more along the lines of Spider-Man, who dodges, avoids, leaps, curses why these crazy villains exist, gets beaten up now and then, but manages to push through and win out eventually.
So, I don't mind bumps in the road and all that.
If he was more of a Superman, then I'd certainly have more troubles with how things play out as an Elec/Elec Blaster, hehe!

Then again, I try, a bit, to tailor my ideas to work with the medium provided.
I don't suggest utterly limiting yourself to that, but I suppose the fact that E-K's concept works so well in this game is why I enjoy playing him as much as I do and why I ended up sticking with that character (and this game).

    Also, beards are under powered.
  24. I use plenty of old stuff!
I'm not saying I wouldn't like a lot of things to be updated, but there's plenty of old stuff that looks perfectly fine and result in costumes that I get complimented on regularly and, more importantly, that I love!

Also, Sam, I hear ya and I think it is largely a case of happenstance.
I was recently around the Virtue Steel Canyon Icon, two nights in a row, and I just happened to see a number of outfits that made me do that second-take look further at them.

It's all out there...the good and the bad!
