Wonderful People on the Help Channel.

Hello all.
I know you cannot see me but if you could you would see my face is still red from all the blushing I just did.

Today, not long ago, I did the first "Who Will Die" Story on my level 26 Street Justice/Willpower Brute.

I leveled to 27 on it, and at the end gnashed my teeth as I was still on cooldown for the Villain A-Merit.

So, I chose another reward and zoomed off to (1) level up, and (2) craft four pieces of Mocking Beratement.

I had all the salvage collected from my day's adventures, and the crafting went as smooth as silk. I slotted them, then went to personal Info to see how large the system considered the bonuses...the bonuses were not there!

I went to combat attributes window to see if they were there...they were not.

I logged out and logged back in, still no bonuses...hmmmmm.

I sent in a petition and waited a bit. Never heard from anyone, so I typed in my problem in the help channel wondering if this was a known issue....I am still so embarrased I do not recall what I wrote in the Help Channel exactly, but some very nice people tried to help.

One person, who has a future in Tech Support, decided to start at the obvious, and, asked "THE QUESTION"

Are you Exemplared????

I looked up at my level bubble and my jaw fell open, my eyes bugged out, and I could feel my face burning when I saw I was indeed exemplared down to 20.

I never went back to the ghost, but went straight to the Trainer!!!!!!!

I wish I knew who these players were because they were very nice, very polite, very helpful, and did not tell me I should stop playing the game because I am so dumb.

As I type this, two things stand out to me. We have friendly players here, and the Help Channel does indeed work.

A big hug to everone reading this.

Lisa.

These days... you actually got help on the Help channel? As the unofficial LFG channel for free players I've kinda stopped monitoring it lately. But great to hear that some helpful folks still do. Oh, and hey, I've never done what you just did before... er, I wish.

Yup, people still get help on the Help Channel. There's a lot more chatter than there used to be (on Champ anyway, Freedom and Virtue seem about the same ammount of clutter). I don't mind for the most part. I turn on that and my global channels when I solo for the background noise, and if anyone needs help I answer as best as I can, especially if nobody else seems to be helping. I'd rather tell them what I know, or even that I don't know, vs having them being ignored.

The only time I mind chatter on Help is when there's so much of it folks needing help get ignored, or when abusive or trollish individials get riled up. Almost as bad as folks just complaining about how this or that aspect of the game sucks because they don't like it. Don't want help, just want to tirade in the channel about it, which of course usually leads to an argument.

But it's worth it to keep the channel open when I solo, for the ones that need help I can answer, and heck, I've passively learned a number of neat things myself just by lurking around the channel... and at least one or two good jokes

"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.

glad to hear "help" worked for you. i've always found it useful over the years i have been playing, always someone to throw out a useful bit of info when i get myself confused or whatever. but over the last 6 months or so, at least on Virtue, it has turned into prepubescent, angsty, chat channel of choice. with idiots blathering away about inane TV shows, arguing over comics lore, or just randomly trolling. i've frequently dropped my 2cents worth and said "hey, think maybe you could chat somewhere else? this channel is for folks who need to ask questions." to which they reply, "this conversation IS help" and reference a lame question posed 20 minutes ago, which somehow justifies the rampant troll chatting.

freaken annoying if you ask me, and anyone who is guilty of using "help" as a personal chat channel should be very ashamed of themselves, you know you are wrong, you know you are annoying, but you know you are safe behind the anonymity of the interwebz....

Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

screw your joke, i want "FREEM"

Glad to hear that you got the help you needed, Lisa! One of the great things about this community is how friendly and helpful the players are.

And while the Help channel is sometimes used for things that aren't Help-related, it has always been my experience that if a player needs help and asks for it, they receive it. Off topic discussion stops for a moment, questions get answered, then right back to other chat.

First after a red-named, yay!

Anyway, yes, I've always tried to help out people in anyway I can. But last night I got called a troll for sending a player a Statesman Mask.

I was told that I was using the Help Channel for "unintended purposes" and I was being put on /ignore for using the Help Channel to actually help.

Admittedly, the person I sent the Mask to, immediately went back to whining about needing Halloween salvage and was "pumping my stress ball so I don't get angry!" to the people that were trying to help him out.

But yeah, ignored for 'unintended purposes' for sending a new player an item he wanted.

Grin. I am so very glad I am not the only one.

Thanks for that

Also, that's not that bad of a mistake, hehe. I could see myself failing to notice that in such a scenario!

The other day I was on, and some poor frustrated new soul calls out in Help, "Does the tram ever arrive for anything OTHER than Steel Canyon?!"

I replied, "Just click on the doors, you can select where you want to go."

Long pause.

PFNS: "Oh... next question, when do I stop feeling like an idiot?"

A bunch of people LOL'd and started sharing stories of "my stupid moment in COH"... which in turn had more new players going, "oh thank God it's not just me."

Great fun.

Two things you can do with that.

One is mention the other big tram mistake (trying to zone through the exit) and mention the bit of lore that the readerboards above the doors are from when you had to zone in order (so that one mentioning Steel Canyon? It used to only send you to Steel).

Nope. Never done that, at least twice on each character I have ever made. And I definately did not do it Tuesday night. ~whistles~

Just the other day a new player was asking about enhancements and how many SO's you should have in comparison to DO's because of the high cost of lvl 30+ SO's. Remembering how frustrating it was on my first couple toons to "properly" slot them when you dont have any lvl 50's to fund your alts I promptly sent her a couple million inf.

Good things do still come out of the help channel.

I've actually removed it because it's nonstop chatter for the freebies.

I know I always try to send a mil or so inf to new players, just as another player did for my first toon.

And yeah, help can be annoying, but there are also plenty of people actually asking for help there.

I've done this a few times. Five millions seems like so much on someone on their first level 30
