Quote:Careful... don't go gettin' him in trouble!!There's one famous case of a player becoming a Dev because of his hawt AE skills, and so, many of us know his personal account global. He still plays on that account and I've had him a few times on my speed iTF runs. Of course, I'll use the opportunity to make winkingly joking comments aimed at him during play like, "If they Devs knew about this they'd nerf it to heck!" and he'll reply winkingly, "Therefore, we must keep it secret!"
(And it never got nerfed, btw.)

Leprechauns for EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hiya, Goat!
I like the Lizardroid! Very nice!
I'm also enjoying reading your take of things from a newish start (funny, Goat never looked newish).
Eventually we'll run out of new things to tell you that make you go, "!!!!"... but, for now, we're still holding a few things back for fun.
Oh, and welcome back! -

I'm going to avoid the absurdity a tad and just mention (in a complete open-for-discussion-for-everyone sort of way, with zero attacks and defensiveness) that I find it a bit odd to talk about the Incarnate Powers as something you have to flat out prove why the character can be so powerful... When my main example would be my Electric/Electric/Electric Blaster who gained Ionic Judgement, but could already release a much more powerful AoE of Electric devastation beforehand.
Some of it really is just... more powers/options for representing a character.
I'm not saying this as though each and every character can work quite so well into it, but I just don't see anything as absolute, especially not this stuff.
Why can my character do this or that at any given level?
I do agree that the Well has basically been used as a be-all of human (and possibly the universe's) potential.
So, it is there, whether we want to acknowledge it or not. I know others have mentioned this as well.
Whether the sentient aspect is something that is truly a part of it all, who knows... who knows how much will turn out to be true or whatever... But I just don't see anything within the Incarnate Powers currently available as rationally requiring anything beyond what we've already come to know and expect within the CoH universe.
Of course, I have zero problem with going along with the story either.
From my experience, thus far, it doesn't really change a whole bunch. I could succeed before and I can still succeed. Sometimes I use new options, but it hasn't been anything that I've felt slaps me across the head as requiring further explanation.
That's just my perspective on that line of thought. -
I'm looking forward to seeing the winners from the later contest as well.
I didn't get a chance to see them, but, based on the name, one of them had the same theme as mine.
I saw some great costumes and received a lot of very nice comments (thank you!).
It was nice to see WW walking around Pocket D too! Oh, and Posi and the others as well, of course... -
This had happened with a few other costume categories as well...
Basically, every time they do a major resorting of the costume options, the re-categorization of things isn't entirely compatible with previously made costumes.
It has a new organization and categorization process, and it doesn't match the old costume... So, it reverts options you've chosen to certain defaults and then you have to go through the options and reselect them.
Chest Details recently had a nice amount of reorganizing (creating a bunch of subcategories that you can easily scroll through), which is a good thing... but the bad side is that we have to reselect the chest detail we already had, if/when we want to visit the tailor.
Just remember though, that nothing actually changes on your character unless you accept the changes. You can back out at any time and no changes will actually be made to your character's in-game appearance.
There are a select few costume pieces that have been taken out of the game (either because they were changed/"improved" or because they were only available due to a bug [Malaise Pants]). And these can remain on your character, so long as you never accept any changes at the tailor for that particular costume (alternate costumes can be edited without affecting the other ones though).
I hope that made sense to you... and, hopefully, you can remember what options you had and return your character's image to true form!! -
Hang on and relax, I don't think the costume part is gone!
This is most likely just a simple (yet, somewhat annoying) case of having to reset/re-choose the same piece you had before.
You shouldn't have added anything and moved forward with the costume without fixing the mask first, hehe (you can back out of the costume screen without making any changes at all).
Here is the gist of it:
They recently changed the Head options, removing "Mask With Hair" and just combined it with the "Standard" head category.
So, everything is still there, but, if you load in a character using the old "Mask With Hair" head option, the tailor screen doesn't recognize it and defaults to the "Standard Head" with no masks selected.
All you need to do is reselect everything the way you had it and you should be good. -
Putting this into a separate post, because I feel it calls for it...
Actually, my main villain is a Mind/Psi Dominator and his powers were only of the psychic variety and not the physical/telekinesis types... So, no Levitate and Telekinetic Thrust or whatever it is called.
And then... in game-play... when dealing with trying to break open vault doors or attack robots... I would generally avoid using his psychic powers and just brawl or use any temporary powers (that fit the concept), such as baseball bats, guns, grenades and such.
Funny enough... after reaching 50, he did end up developing his powers somewhat and I respec'd those telekinetic powers in. I still don't use them often as he doesn't quite have great control over it. That makes it all the more fun, though, as... when he does use them, it plays off as so much more of a GET OUT OF MY FACE burst of anger, resulting in powers that he doesn't have a hold on yet.
Ahhh... good stuff (for me).
I don't think this really counts, but Amazing Ape (my only real Tank) is deathly afraid of water... and it has gimped him a few times (especially in those dank, tight caves with large puddles of water with no other way through).
He has spent many a minutes growling and fussing at the edge of a pool of water, while the rest of the team has rushed ahead.
As a player, I feel badly... but my character's phobia extends so greatly to me that I really have a hard time sending him through the water. Most often, someone on the team learns of his phobia and will teleport him through such obstacles, haha.
This tends to result in a lot of fun.
Not sure that this really counts, but it is an example of how gimping can come from different angles, I suppose. -
It's interesting to me, because (when reading the thread title) my immediate thought is that I do.
However, after reading the actual questions and examples, I realize that I really don't tend to go to any of these lengths.
The reason, for myself, is that it seems as though most of my concepts keep the elements of CoH in mind. I often take a long while before I actually make a character (they might sit as saved costumes for years before they become an actual character in-game... or, you know, of course some times they happen over night too... anyway).
While I absolutely pick and choose a character's powers entirely around concept, I don't tend to find any incongruities between my concepts and what the game provides for successful power selection.
If and when I do have such incongruities, I'd certainly choose for concept, but I suppose that I tend to build my concepts around working somewhat well.
Of course, by some definitions, not taking Tough and Weave and Combat Jumping and Maneuvers is "gimping" your Tank or Brute or Scrapper... And I not-only don't take those combinations (unless the concept REALLY calls for that level of performance AND I have room for those powers - which is the biggest rarity), but I'll eagerly take and use Jump Kick and Hand Clap and so on, if the concept calls for it.
Powers are pretty much on the same plane as emotes, auras and costumes for me.
However, I tend to design the whole thig to work... And I shouldn't take all of the credit... CoH seems to really make it possible for me to have solidly represented concepts that actually work successfully within the game.
The one thing that I have often thought of doing was to limit a character's level based on a particular zone... But I never have.
My main character's main haunt is Kings Row, but I don't mind pummeling Skulls with one shot each... I actually find it enjoyable.
So... No, but yes... maybe? Not really... but I would... -
Buy things at prices that you are happy with and never look back.
Look ahead, if you like, but don't bother looking back.
If it felt like a good price then... all is good.
Thems my words of advice for ya. -
<--- Is a fan!
Very nice. I especially like the shading and texture on the cloak and hat.
I very much like the style and appreciate how it fits with the character.
Also... I want those sideburns in game! -
I honestly hope that you can distance yourself from this thread and then come back to it and read it through and see that you're incorrect about what you keep insisting Dechs did and, more importantly, realize that Dechs said nothing that should be taken in any way that you keep insisting.
It's really coming off rather oddly to me and I honestly hope that you can just see the truth eventually.
Also, the whole thing about "respect after it is proven to be deserved" is exactly why we have so many problems from people (and, no, you are far from the only person who holds to this process). The worst part about that angle is... If you only give respect when it has been proven that you deserve it... when and how exactly do you think you'll be proving that you deserve it?
Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.
It doesn't work if you don't do the first part.
I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to everyone I meet. I'm strong enough to handle being wrong, because I know the beauty in having others prove me right.
Anyway, I'm not harping on that philosophy too much... I just felt like sharing my view on it, since you mentioned it. -
Quote:I appreciate the response, Zwill, but -in that case- I'm not sure I can do better than this:I understand your stance, and appreciate your viewpoint, however I'd ask you to please ballpark it based on our established pricing.
Thanks!
480-560 points is my opinion. I don't really feel comfortable offering a false opinion based around prices that I, personally, find to be too high... I suppose I could just tell you that I think powersets should be 400-500 points.
(Still love ya, Zwill)
I honestly just don't agree with the price points, compared to what we used to get for those price points. An expansion cost X amount and now powersets cost a third of an entire expansion? And an AT costs an even greater percentage?
I'm not complaining. I'm simply explaining my slant.
I know prices go up... but when are wages going to go up along with? -
I've said it before and I'll say it again...
As someone who bought the collector's edition, and a few Hero Gear Kits for friends, I absolutely want them to release the Prestige Slide (and the Cape of the Four Winds) on the market.
Options, options... open up the options.
And... the new people can "pay extra" for these items as well.
What's so exclusive about something that you can still find for sale anyway? -
Well, for the data point, Zwill...
I, personally, think that 480-560 points is the correct price for a new AT.
Before anyone tries to compare this price to existing prices... I happen to think that many current prices are greatly overpriced. -
Agreed with the above and Nal throughout this thread as well.
And that signature/disclaimer is a load of bullocks.
I am a highly opinionated person who does not hold his tongue... And I don't get people reacting negatively to me all the time... The likely reason? because I have respect for other people and I tend to post, and speak, respectfully (some people prove that doing so won't get anywhere and I may fire off a little more roughly, but it is rare).
The reactions to Reppu's posts (and it is not just within this thread, from what I gather), are not because of some strongly opinionated, "aggressive" stance that the person post with... it's because of the egocentric stance and disrespect towards those who have different views. That's not aggressiveness... it is self-defeating.
Reppu may think that other people are upset, angry or hurt by the views expressed... as opposed to seeing that people were just trying to point out the inherent flaws in the holier-than-thou approach to things, in general.
Within the confines of the super egocentric, any such responses mean that the all-important opinions of master have been met with disappointment in witnessing that the little snowflakes aren't as important as they had wished.
Sadly, it is the egocentric that are the precious snowflakes, living in their crystal tanks, firing off public dismissals as though they were fireballs and seeing intelligent responses as nothing but burning corpses-to-be.
Haha... apologies for waxing somewhat poetically... -
When you think of new ATs, what do you think of?
Honestly, this:
I'm serious. Yeah, I just don't seem to come up with much regarding further AT ideas... beyond shapeshifters and Mechsuit type things which theoretically could be done via ATs.
Anyway, my apologies for the pic... now back to your good-read, productive thread. -
Rodents Of Unusual Size?
Oh, I don't think they exist...
