I'd gladly take them things over skunks any day of the week. Skunks are truly useless creatures that have no redeeming factors. Even mosquitos have a use as a food source for birds. But skunks? I would feel no sorrow if they go extinct.

Well, be happy they´re from Africa. I they were australian, the rats would most likely be poisonous too.

And was that three feet long (with or w/o tail) or tall?
Three feet tall rats would be awesome and I´d definetly get myself a pair

If their so worried about the giant rats eating all the crops why don't they just get like guard dogs or cats kinda like scarecrows but actually scary to a rat. You know the eco friendly way nature vs nature instead of nature vs poison.

Cats would be no good, unless they were tamed Lynx's or wild cats or something. Your average cat is a giant coward. Dogs aren't much better, given what vicious gits wild rats can be.

Well at least we know nature already has a "clean-up crew" ready to go when the ZA kills all the normal humans.
Once there are only zombies left on the planet these hyper-rats will chew up all the hungry zombies.

Indeed, as the article mentioned, these rats can get as big as (or bigger than) the average domesticated cat.

Three feet in length. Probably including the tail; nine pounds seems too light for them to be 3feet without counting it.

Also, heh Australia. Why must everything there try to kill you?

My bosses keep fancy rats as pets.
The largest one they've ever had was a lab rescue.
We called her "Max" (and her runt sister, "Min").
Max was humongous by rat standards.

Most female rats weigh in at around 9 ounces.
Most of the rats my bosses have owned have been disgustingly healthy and large. Average weight 12-16 ounces.

We never really got a good weight on Max (she was too, pardon the expression, squirrely to stay seated on a scale), but she was easily half-again as big as the next largest rat they'd ever had. What's more, she had unusual upper body strength for a rat (who aren't known for it). She was actually able to pry the bars of her cage apart (though not enough to get out).

The thought of a 3 foot long rat is just...wow.

We always joke about the city rats here. You know, you're driving downtown around sunset, you flip your lights on and startle a rat that's dragging a VW beetle into the alley...

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

"I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home. They're not much bigger than two meters."

Maybe this is yet another case of sci-fi becoming science fact.

Go out there with a club or a basic bow. You should get about 10-15xp a piece for them.

Of course, then you have to find a tavern to continue with the adventure. And explain why elves are showing up.

So that's why Florida cats have been quaking in terror. Now it makes sense.

Don't we already have a Nutria invasion from Argentina?

I do find it funny how we are trying our darndest to keep Tigers alive, and yet we can't kill these little punks off. Maybe we should do something like convince the world that rat livers are performance enhancers, so then we'll get everyone killing them off for a placebo.

Well...think of it like a garden.

Your tomato plants will wilt and die if you look at 'em funny, but you could nuke it from orbit and the dandelions & crabgrass will still be there.

Clearly, they should have released eight pairs of tigers into the Florida Keys instead.

There's another thing, too. Nutria are going extinct in Argentina due to the leather trade, but thriving in the U.S. where they aren't killed for any sort of profit.

Which is sad, because their livers totally make your "stuff" bigger.

The skunks I've seen round here are pretty cute and hey, any animal that's making good (within its own habitat, mind you, not invading/damaging another) must be doing something right.
