Disappearing Costume Pieces

Recently I took an old toon and went to ICON to get a cape. When the costume screen appeared my costume had changed. A mask I had disappeared and left the toon bare headed. When I got the cape and exited the mask did not reappear so I contacted Tech Support. One guy had no idea why so escalated me and the next guy said the costume part had been discontinued! WHY?! Once a costume part is created at ICON it should stay. People develop costumes they use as identity for their toon and if they are mucked around with the toon becomes something different. My toon's identity is lost and as I played it after that I found I was playing a toon I did not identify with The look was just wrong. It matters not that there are costume change available with each issue. The look I chose was destroyed because someone decided to delete a costume part. That is just not right to do. Why delete it anyway? Was the database full? Did the piece cause crashes? Or did someone just F-U?

Our free choice is being ***** by devs who do not seem to care about players as they throw their weight around deleting things, creating new content rather than fixing problems in the game that people have reported for over 6 years now.

Unlike many who are playing this game for free, I pay a monthly fee to play. I deserve better than this. So does anyone who takes time to play this game.

Hang on and relax, I don't think the costume part is gone!

This is most likely just a simple (yet, somewhat annoying) case of having to reset/re-choose the same piece you had before.
You shouldn't have added anything and moved forward with the costume without fixing the mask first, hehe (you can back out of the costume screen without making any changes at all).

Here is the gist of it:

They recently changed the Head options, removing "Mask With Hair" and just combined it with the "Standard" head category.
So, everything is still there, but, if you load in a character using the old "Mask With Hair" head option, the tailor screen doesn't recognize it and defaults to the "Standard Head" with no masks selected.
All you need to do is reselect everything the way you had it and you should be good.

Also, make sure the option "show only free costume pieces"(or whatever the little white check-box says) is unchecked because it may hide things you really do have access to.

This had happened with a few other costume categories as well...
Basically, every time they do a major resorting of the costume options, the re-categorization of things isn't entirely compatible with previously made costumes.
It has a new organization and categorization process, and it doesn't match the old costume... So, it reverts options you've chosen to certain defaults and then you have to go through the options and reselect them.

Chest Details recently had a nice amount of reorganizing (creating a bunch of subcategories that you can easily scroll through), which is a good thing... but the bad side is that we have to reselect the chest detail we already had, if/when we want to visit the tailor.

Just remember though, that nothing actually changes on your character unless you accept the changes. You can back out at any time and no changes will actually be made to your character's in-game appearance.

There are a select few costume pieces that have been taken out of the game (either because they were changed/"improved" or because they were only available due to a bug [Malaise Pants]). And these can remain on your character, so long as you never accept any changes at the tailor for that particular costume (alternate costumes can be edited without affecting the other ones though).

I hope that made sense to you... and, hopefully, you can remember what options you had and return your character's image to true form!!

I thought changed/deleted pieces were removed if you so much as opened the tailor window, whether you accepted the changes or not. I think that happened to a few of my oldest characters when I went through a deleting spree before I unsubscribed for Freedom.

Nope. The game doesn't alter your "real world" (errr, "virtual world") character model until you accept changes within Icon. Until you accept the changes, everything is reversible, even if you are wearing something invalid.

If the game altered your "real world" character model in real-time, you'd see a lot more amusing sights at Icon as people try on different clothes.

The tech support people said the costume piece was discontinued.

What was it? I suspect the above poster is correct. It's not "gone" it's moved.

No offense meant to our GM team, because they work tirelessly for a bazillion players playing multiple games, but... they work for a bazillion players... playing multiple games.

They're likely wrong. What part is it that is missing? You've yet to actually say what's missing other than "a mask" (unfortunately, there's about sixty masks).

I wouldn't put it that way, but technically they do have the right, since it all (including your characters) belongs to them. And you agree with that right every time you log in.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

You know, there's a good chance that nothing was actually removed. If you dedicated 10% of the words you spend ranting to just tell us WHAT mask, maybe someone can tell you where to find it or if the name has been changed.

I'm trying to load a saved costume, but it seems like ever since th3e last update came through, there are pieces missing.

When I attempt to load the costume, is says in red "Failed to Load: Could not find a match for parts (1,Pants)(3,Head)(5,Boots)(7,Hair)(p,Eye Detail)(14,Neck)(19,Aura)(23,Cranium)(28,Tail). Costume Creator may not have access to costume parts."

The funny ting is, that games is displaying the character perfectly including the parts it "can't find".

It wont let me continue unless I click on "Attempt Costume Fix" which sets the "missing" pieces back to default.

Furthermore, in the creator itself, There seem to be whole sections that just don't work right. I could be almost done re-creating this character without the pieces it can't find and if I click on "auras" and select anything, it resets the entire costume back to default.

It seems to me that there are mistakes in the database of costume parts that the Costume creator is attempting to work around. I tried reparing my COH install but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Sometimes they replace a costume piece with something that's in a different place in the costume editor, so it's "gone" but you can still create a character that looks the same.

Your character still looks the way it used to, right? So the game can still display that costume piece, it's just not set up the same as before.

Make a screen copy of the character and post it here so we can see what you have, and maybe figure out a way to re-do with the existing costume pieces.
