Quote:Hi and welcome back!!I'm a returning player trying to figure out the Incarnate stuff. I have a basic understanding of the systems. I ran Ramiel's arc so I have the Alpha slot unlocked, and I started running some BAF and Lam trials so I have some progress towards Judgement and Interface and have some of the rewards from those.
Quote:But I'm having a little trouble figuring out how the different merits and components and shards and threads and whatnot all fit together
Hehe, I'm no expert, but let's see if I can help a little (and I'm sure there'll be a bunch of helpful replies soon (even before I finish typing this, no doubt).
Quote:What's the difference between Incarnate shards and threads? Do I make different things with them?
Shards were introduced first, when we just had the Alpha Slot and nothing else. And they were solely used for creating and slotting things for Alpha.
I've not converted any to Threads or anything and only ever used them to slot my Alpha abilities.
Threads only drop from enemies in the Incarnate Trials (and as reward options for completing certain tasks/TFs).
And Threads are needed to craft the many different things needed for the other Incarnate Slots.
I am a little unfamiliar with the bleed over, as I mostly finished doing Alpha stuff before the Trials came around (although, I'm just about to start a new guy through the Alpha stages... And I think I am just going to follow the same path I did before... Run some TFs with teams and collect a bunch of shards along the way. A handful of TFs and Weekly Strike Targets and I had my Tier 3 Alpha Slot pretty quickly. Tier 4 not that far afterward.
So, I've followed a Shards for Alpha & Threads for the rest, but it is not really limited to just that way (just makes it a bit easier for me as I still get lost in the sea of various components for the higher incarnate slots).
Quote:Is it worth it to convert the Astral and Empyrean merits to threads (I think that's correct) which I can then convert to the components I need for Incarnate abilities? Or are they better off saved for something else, and I just run the trials to get the components?
You can now buy some costume pieces, auras, emotes, Invention Enhancements with Empyreans and Astrals.
I've not used any Emps nor Astrals on Threads and have just tried to get what I need through completing the trials and with the threads that I've earned.
I'm not plowing through it and just taking it as it comes and I seem to be doing fine (although, I don't really like repeating these things over and over... so, again, I'm taking it slowly).
Quote:What about converting components, like downgrading uncommons, is that a wise thing to do?
So, if you find yourself struggling to get specific components to complete a slot you want, I'd go for however you can make that happening, without sacrificing something you need for something else/a later tier, etc.
Quote:Also, I'm thinking of the Alpha: Cardiac and Judgement: Void abilities. For Interface, I'm considering either Diamagnetic or Paralytic. Are those choices good? This is for my Dark/Dark scrapper btw
Plus, you can earn any and all of the different variations and slot and unslot them.
Quote:And is this the best forum for Incarnate discussion? I didn't see a specific Incarnate category so I wasn't sure
There is no Incarnate Forum.
Some may stick with the Going Rogue section, since only Going Rogue users can use Incarnate System, but that's not a necessary restriction for the forums!
Anyway... Just my quick, personal thoughts on your questions... Best of luck! -

Thou doth speaketh from the divine truth, brother!!!
If I may humbly submit the words I have also come to understand...
* Thou shall not commit thyself to only 10 commandments, for moar is better, verily.

Steelclaw....!!!!!! Fantastic!!!!
The thread title had me staying away a bit... but I couldn't resist checking it... And this is truly your most epic list... and I found it wonderfully entertaining!!
In fact... I plan to link this list in my sig... This needs to be a mainstay in all future and present operations to do with this game!!
Awesome!! -
My first character I ever created was a Dark/Dark Brute!
I had been playing another game for a long while, but then SOmEone destroyed it and I wanted to try the CoV Free Trial.
I wanted to see if I could create a real monster in the costume creator. Some sort of evil creature, bent on malice, to play as a villain.
I created a black shadow demon, of sorts, named Zethustra... Chose the dark powers (decided on Brute over Corrupter, mainly because I figured he should be tough and not squishy).
And it is my global name to this day.
He's been stuck at level 42 for a long while, but I always use him when I am editing my main villain SG Base.
My first character once getting City Of Heroes activated was the Electric-Knight, Elec/Elec Blaster!
It's funny, because both of those sets are a little (or, maybe a lot) different from the rest of the powersets within those ATs. And I really enjoy them all the more for that. -
I hate to just lose the zone. I thought we'd have a new damaged zone. It seems kind of weird to just blow it off the map and remove it from the zones...
However, this could be a clever move by the Devs to show that they don't hate villains...

Quote:All of my time role-playing as immortals will pay off!! Take that, oh mockers of me!!!Old people don't usually complete everything they want to do before age catches up with them. Imagine a point where you have done everything that you can think of and want to do. What is the point of living when you have accomplished everything you have set out to do? 100 years is not enough to accomplish that, but what about 500 years or 1,000 years.
Try living for 100,000 years or even 1,000 years and see if you aren't contemplating to end your life. The people that lead productive lives after 100,000 years are the ones that learn to adjust their thinking for the long term instead of the short term. Thinking about plans that take 1,000 years instead of just 20 years. -
About Galaxy City...
I've seen a few other people wondering about this:
Will the new damaged/destroyed Galaxy City be a persistent zone that can be entered?
I know it won't be a starter zone and that there will be a Tutorial in it... but will it be an open zone to enter (to possibly fight stuff, zone events or just to visit and see the damage first hand)?
Or will it strictly be a Tutorial Zone (and possibly some mission maps or something)?
I don't recall seeing anything specifying these things and was curious if it had been mentioned or if it could be made clear yet. -

Thank you for such an honest and revealing post, Super Oz.
That's not exactly easy stuff to talk about and I respect that you have. It is such a great thing to share that level of stuff with other people, because there are absolutely others who have similar experiences.
And I understand those sorts of reactions, as I have dealt with people very close to me who have similar reactions to things. And, in fact, play with someone who has similar reactions to intense video game experiences.
While video games don't elicit such responses from me, I have actually dealt with tremendous amounts of anxiety as well and, as you mentioned, it stems from other bad stuff that's happened and then finds its way into other places for you to deal with at wonderfully fun times.
Anyway, you're completely right in not making this about sympathy or an attack on the trial system or any such thing...
What it is a realistic expression of, however, is how it is simply not fun to limit really nice, silly and fun rewards behind a single type of extreme/specific content.
People all have their different paces that they may enjoy moving through this video game we all share an enjoyment of.
I just don't like seeing one single aspect of gaming getting rewards that could easily be available across the board, for all types of gamers.
I don't need special rewards, earned from my chosen enjoyments, to be cut off from others unless they do what I enjoy.
Anyway, your post is a very extreme example of how we're all different and nobody needs to feel better or lesser for it.
It's just silly fun time goodness... let's try and keep it that way for everyone.
*friendly hugs for all*
EDIT:
Also... I meant to say that I share your desire and interest in not racing through, but also in taking care of my fellow gamer, team/leaguemates.
Nothing in the game is so important to not allow us to take the time necessary to get everyone up-to-speed, make sure we're all having a good time and to spread a feeling of camaraderie.
If we're not going to bother doing that, then why wouldn't we just play solo? Heh.
I'd rather run out of time and fail than rush through and succeed, if the difference is sharing the moment with others and making sure people are learning, understanding and, most importantly, having fun. -
Quote:You heard it here second! Towel Cape and Panhandle Helmet will be available for $500!!!!For example, if we wanted to release a Towel Cape or a Panhandle helmet (NOTE: WE ARENT!! THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE!), Paragon would not have to create an accompanying thematic power to justify the release of a Towel Cape or Panhandle helmet.
Seriously though...
Quote:...also allows Paragon the Freedom to release items, powers and costume by themselves without having to create a thematic bundle.
I also hope that this plan works and that they are able to kick out more stuff for us VIPs without charging us for it, as they hope to be able to do.
And thanks a bunch for re-posting all of this, Unknown_User! -
This is not a comment about how the art looks, but I wanted to comment on the idea of Sister Psyche being overcome.
I am not familiar enough to know if she has displayed the powers of empathy, mind reading and/or any sort of telepathic link to others.
Psychics who do have such powers may be a bit overcome in such enormous situations, due to a sudden flood of panicked cries, thoughts and feelings of anguish from the large number of victims.
I am not saying anything about the pose or the face, nor any social commentary about the woman panicking and the male standing strong and resolute... I am just commenting on the concept of a psychic's possible reaction to such things. Some times, even, the more powerful a psychic is, the worse. I'm not saying that they can't compose themselves... or even keep themselves composed and functional the entire time... but they still often may have visible indicators of the emotions they are sensing from others.
It's a fun, and dramatic, aspect of psychic characters that I've seen in many works of fiction.
Anyway... just saw a lot of people scratching their heads about that specific aspect of the situation being depicted in that picture and was surprised that no one seemed to think of that angle. -
Oh, and Moo...
I would like alternate options for gaining incarnate rewards as much as anyone... However, your original post here is a bit off the mark...
In referring to 6-7 months as a HUGE amount of development time and making the case that it's way too long and all of that.
I understand where you're coming from, but, unfortunately, it's going to take some time.
Again... I wish it was part of their design plan to include such options before it ever went live.
Unfortunately, it wasn't. And it's going to take a bit before they get to it.
I don't think that means we shouldn't ask for it and let them know that we want it ASAP.
I just don't think it is realistic to expect actual solo content to have been designed and created for it yet.
They have plans that go pretty far ahead into the future and it is very rare that they can add new things in in such a short amount of time.
The best reasoning I've heard that satisfies me about not getting solo and small team Incarnate content right off the bat was due to the Devs finding the right balances and realities of what these powers will do for such content... The big multi-team content is easier for them to work out and then they can scale things down from there.
Something like that, anyway...
Still... I definitely want to see this happen soon... i just think "soon" takes a bit longer than you may be hoping.
Just remember that I really (really!!!!) want to see some options other than the trials as well.
I always thought that the "endgame content" was going to encompass all aspects of play... Not just large trials. I hope that, one day, it will!
I thought that the Alpha Slot was just the beginning for how ingeniously they were tying it all into all content throughout the game.
I thought it was going to go further across existing and new content of all types. -
Quote:It's funny how you see this kind of post for any and every subject of debate.I don't need a citation when I can observe for myself. Currently, the most vocal people on this forum are those that are soloers or players disgruntled with the incarnate trial emphasis. They tend to come to these forums for their socializing, and play the game predominately alone and in an instance. You would probably fit this archetype, Bill Z.
The people that enjoy iTrials and teaming are out there playing the game, using global channels, and forming Super Groups and Leagues. They only come to these forums for information and occasional participation. I have rarely if ever heard players call for solo content in the busiest global chat channels in the game, but it is a daily event on these forums with a string of recycled names leading the charge.
If the forums were emblematic of the broader player base, at least with regards to desired solo content, I should hear more than a ping while playing the game.
We need to strike all specific references to the subject matter and copy and paste it any time more than one forum member posts the same feedback. -
Quote:I appreciate your calculations and you offering your thoughts a bunch....
If you solo 10 hours a week averaging three shards per hour at BillZBubba's pace, and then run one WST a week separate from that, you'll be earning essentially 70 threads in about 12 hours (assuming two hours total to run the WST). It will then take about 34 weeks, or about 410 hours total to fully slot tier 3s, assuming you don't even get any shards or component drops convertible into a shard during the WST run. If we assume you get a few shards in those WSTs, the time drops to under 400 hours.
Still long, but not astronomically long. That's for tier 3 powers.
...
I just see these types of time expenditures brought up now and then and usually passed over and passed off as "not as long as..." and I get the feeling that a lot of people file it as "not bad".
And I just wanted to say that... That's crazy!
But yeah, we all know the soloish path is crazy.
And that was interesting insight, in a previous post of yours, about the reasons for the shards. Thanks!
I've been wondering if they'll do a big Incarnate Salvage/Stuff consolidation some time after most of the Slots are live. However, I can see them leaving Alpha as separate. -

Okay, I don't buy into this plot at all, and I am not certain that Cactus Brawler was being entirely serious...
But several people are misunderstanding the specifics of the alleged plot.
(Again, I don't believe this plot to be true) Correct, the Incarnate system is only for VIPs... However, this alleged plan is to lure the players who've only had experience with 2 characters (no Master Minds) and get them interested enough in becoming an Incarnate that they plop down the money (becoming a VIP) and use one of their 2 characters, who has reached 50 (not a Master Mind... or controller... <.< lol) to focus on the single character uber content of evil... haha.
So...
Dear F2Pers...

Internet forums (and really most "discussions" with unreasonable people) always remind me of playing tennis with someone...
Where the other person hits the ball.. it lands out of bounds, but they claim it was in... there is no judge to make the call... you hit the ball back in their court... they let it bounce three times before hitting it back... it lands out of bounds (but you still hit it back into the far corner of their court) and they just jump up and down with their arms stretched out above them proclaiming victory.
A bunch of people all gather around for this "match" and some chime in with their opinions of what did or didn't happen, right or wrong, and some just like to fuel the fire and side with the person who is blatantly wrong (just for sport).
Tennis is a fun game.
Communicating and conversing with intelligent people is a wonderfully fun thing to do.
Having inane back-and-forths with people unwilling to be reasonable is absurdly annoying. -
Quote:Wow, GG...It's important to read what the devs say, so you can get a handle on their thinking and where they're coming from.
Perhaps it is important to read it. Go ahead.
Next time, I'd suggest reading the developer quotes and the actual words in the conversation you are using those quotes to make a point... and make sure that it says what you want it to. -
Quote:If Incarnate Powers didn't exist/function at all outside of Trials, this line of thought might make sense...Would you mind addressing the rest of the post? I would seriously like an answer to it. Why would the devs want to make access to near-gamebreaking powerlevels easier for those that don't want to do trials, when trials are the only content currently designed for that power?
Never mind the fact that the fact that people are continuing to make threads about the (intentional) inefficiency of solo-earning incarnate stuff is akin to asking for it NAO (even though all involved should understand the basics of how PS developments content and the kind of timeframes they deal with)
That, however, is not the case.
Add in other people's logical responses and I think you've gotten your answers. -
Quote:Ok, I am glad you asked this question.
It works kind of like this: You have a lvl 50 character, who has gone through trials, and has accumulated much power. He or she can grant some of this power to a very low levelcharacter, sort of like "taking the low lvl character under their wing", or "uplifting" them. Now, the low level character has a fraction of this power, and can don the costumes, and have an aura. But they will not be able to shoot giant fireballs or call down lightning until they go through the trials themselves, and accumulate further power.
Well, I can make anything up to make this not work or any number of things to make it work or not work or whatever I'd wish to do.
So, I think it is time to stop any attempt at a conversation here. -
Another perfect example...
How do you handle the fact that these auras and costumes unlock globally?
You say it shows the increase in power by earning that power in-game...
How does The Electric-Knight unlocking these auras for a level 30 Mastermind that player also plays fit into that in-game-world reasoning that you use to explain things to me?
Again, all of this is with respect and I apologize for not replying directly to the post you made in reply to me... These just inspired the exact thoughts I wished to express. And I honestly only express them because I think you'll understand. -
I'm just quoting this as it is a great, concise example of what I was going to say to your reply to me...
Quote:It is the ridiculous" things that many people have been offering their negative feedback about.Bubbles are not the only options available. It is simply an option. What if someone has a bubble-themed character in mind? If they start at lvl 1 with the ability to only have small bubbles, how is it wrong to assume that as they level, and gain power in the incarnate system, they now have a trail of bubbles that come off them?
The problem with this argument is that it's fixated on one thing, be it bubbles, or something else people think is ridiculous.
And your post was pointing to this particular negative feedback as being wrong/unnecessary.
You keep acknowledging the actual points of the people expressing negative feedback... and then dismissing them as you go back to saying that there is no overall problem.
That was my point in my first reply to you and your reply to me and replies to others continue to do the same thing.
It's cool... everything is okay.
We both agree about this.
There are reasons for the negative feedback and it is not hyperbole and doom cries.
It's just people, actual people, with different playstyles, preferences, enjoyments, tastes, amounts-of-time, interests, etc. that are using these forums to express their opinions.
They are not wrong.
And no one is wrong to enjoy the way things are. -
Apparently, people trolling in this thread see nothing else between these two points on a line:
NAO <-----> 600 hours for a single tier 3
But whatever... insanity is a prime component of the natural human condition, so I'm hardly surprised.
