I don't want to approach new and dangerous enemies worrying about what they can do and fearful of the danger. I want to approach them excited that I have found a worthy opponent and itching for a fight.
I both agree and disagree here. I like facing the confussion of what is going to happen. That [imo] is a true test of skill, that even when something suprising happens that you can overcome your worthy opponent and still come out as the victor.

If i had my way with creating enemy stats, i'ld make AVs vary totally with some of the following to make them a challenge.
    • Only some will have a high regeneration rate
    • Some will have very high attack stats but a lower def/acc/resis.
    • Some will have very high defence/resistance stats but low/medium attack.
    • Some will use tactics like be entirely flight based [give the user a temp flying power in the mission].
    • Some will be entirely of speed/range.
    • Some will transform into even stronger AVs once almost defeated.
    • Some will have their "type" change during the battle [start off resis to nothing, at 3/4 health become resis to say psi + fire, 1/2 health become resis to neg / nrg etc etc]
    • Have multiple copies spawn in the room [just like decoys but all looking the same] with you having to try and defeat the correct one [the decoys do little to no damage however].
That to me would be an awesome battle! When facing a boss, they are the kind of things i want to be facing against [and i think our engine could easily handle them!]

When I quit FFXI for this game, some of my old guildmates actually argued that things like quick travel times, solo gameplay, flexible build options, mild penalties for death, lack of competition over outdoor spawns, and a loot free (at the time) system of character improvement were bad ideas.

And yet... these were the same people who would complain constantly over Linkshell Chat about having to wait 20 minutes for the airship to show up, or ride a Chocobo for half an hour to reach some obscure camp in the middle of nowhere. Or about the number of hours they'd spent sitting around in Jeuno trying to get a team going. Or about the number of months it took them to obtain all of the gear, spells, level-cap unlocks, secret zone unlocks and faction reputation necessary to be considered worthy of team invites within even a 5-10 level span. Or how much of a hassle it was getting a good camp location where you could effectively fight the monsters you were grinding for EXP without having to compete with a dozen other teams over the same spawns. Or the Notorious Monster system, which encouraged all kinds of ridiculous griefing and drama, and was the main way most players encountered RMT farmers in game. Or about how many times they'd died enough to de-level entirely, and how wary that made everyone of trying out any new content without following someone else's fine tuned strategy to the letter. Or the incredibly low drop rates of the high-end raid content, where you could go for months at a time without successfully completing an event, and even when you did, your chances were less than 1 in 100 of actually getting a reward. Or about how we'd been camping King Ranperre's Tomb for six hours, but some other guild was able to get the Vrtra legendary dragon spawn because they were using taunt bots, or because of server latency, or because it's just crummy design to put something like that on a 3-4 day timer and then load it with some of the best loot in the game, if you don't want players getting pissed at each other over it.

What they didn't seem to realise was that these problems could all be summed up as Time Sinks. The game developers needed to keep subscriptions going by making everything as time consuming as possible. There was a lot of excellence and beauty in that game, but it was clear that it only existed to provide a minimum effective incentive to put up with the rest of it.

This game... the developers seem to respect our time. And more importantly, they get involved. I haunted the official FFXI forums pretty much around the clock, and I didn't even know the names of any of the developers. Maybe that's because they were focused on communicating with their core audience, the Japanese players, but it's still a pretty unfavorable contrast to the way the developers here operate. They respect us and they listen to us. They may not agree with what they hear, but they bother to check in the first place.

    ...

That said... MORE STORY CONTENT IN ISSUE 17, INDEPENDENT OF WHAT'S CONTAINED IN THE PAID PORTION OF GOING ROGUE, PLEASE!!!

Initially yes, whether or not it may become "free" like CoV became after a few years remains to be seen. But for now it is indeed a paid for expansion. That is why, as the beta/release date gets closer, you'll see more and more threads asking/demanding for more content for the players unable to pay for the expansion [one of the main draws for Co* was the fact that quality updates were indeed free].

It is highly possible though that a few of the main features of GR will indeed be available to all players from launch. Ultra mode graphics is a prime example.

I blame full moon fever, GR hubris, chocolate overdose, or something

    <ducks>

Ok i have just actually viewed all the links here and i have to say . . . . take those away and your left with WHAT exactly? The GD section would be dead if it wasnt for these type of threads! The large majority of those belong in the GD forum imo and if the large majority of us thought otherwise then we'ld mention it in our post!

Remember about a week ago there was a new poster suggesting a new powerset within the GD section? The people that replied, said nicely that the suggestions forum was that way. Not in ANY of the threads you mentioned is there a large group of people saying that it doesnt belong here.
  9. Well who knows really GR really is either the start of the revival of the EU servers or the end of them as we all know

We've all said that GR will be the issue that gets population numbers back up and it should do in theory, however if it doesnt . . . . i guess its safe to say that we'll all be transfered to the US servers

As much as i prefer and love the EU servers, i just cant say to a friend of mine to start in the EU rather than the US servers. All my friends who i got to play this game played the EU for a bit before getting a US account and play there instead.

*Not naming and shaming so don't cry.

Well i havent been INGAME for a good while properly now and probs wont be for another week at least so no harm in throwing channel names out i suppose

But yeah sals personally is a great person [only spoken to him a few times ingame though] and the channel is great . . . . . . apart from a handfull of mods who seem to be VERY power hungry. I saw one person got SILENCED in the channel simply because he replied and answered to an ingame question [something about powersets i think] that somebody asked, simply because it wasnt badge related.

I dont really do tfs/badge runs as i have zero patience with them but still . . . . . . . for a server with a very unsteady trigger finger, a little lee way [thats how i spell it drunk hehe ] is OK!

Is sayin the channels name allowed? im not sure :S
  11. Question: What is a unique snowflake and where on earth is it snowing right now? We're having a mini heatwave here!!!!

Question 2: New topic/question DESERVES a new thread I wouldnt want a thread i created to be sidetracked onto something totally unrelated to the OP.

Question 3: Why did question 2 seem more of a statement than a question?

Question 4: What kind of threads do people think SHOULD be in this section then?
  12. I'ld just like to add that just the other day i was thinking how much better the forums are now with the merger and how the large majority seems to be getting along!
  13. I'ld use the

"control time" cheat where you get to either speed up time or slow it down to a snail speed!!!!

You just opened a whole can of worms there That makes us ALL roleplayers then, since your playing the character you made in a certain way that makes you a roleplayer

Also since you joined a supergroup that makes you roleplaying into their specific style

Also since . . . . . [could go on and on and on We have discussed this subject to death and even roleplayers say that true roleplaying is having a back story, character, settings etc NOT what you describe ]

BTW im NOT a roleplayer and i 100% dont see this as roleplaying, i see this as players having "friendly banter" with eachother.

Lamentably, the devs don't have much time to stop and pet poodle posts.

This, of course, is just IMPO.

Honestly, the last few days in the general discussion section has been more active and vibrant than it has been in a long time. Does a player saying he supports villain side instead of heroes make him a roleplayer? Nope. Does a player saying hes going to be a loyalist [the RIGHT side ] rather than the resistance mean hes roleplaying? Nope.

Also imo, open ended questions which can be turned into discussions do belong in this section too imo

If these threads werent here, there would be . . . . 2/3 threads active?

    Let us have our fun!
  16. Issue 17 = a good content issue or one helllll of a tease into future issues, theres only so much QOL a player can take before he needs something new to play it on
  17. There has been confirmation that there is indeed no confirmation on the information you seek

There is bound to be a bunch of generic maps for a large majority of missions, but as long as they're a bit new/tweaked to the old ones then i think the majority will be pleased. Anything that suprises a player is a good thing imo.

Same here, i personally cant see how so many people can stand playing a game that to me personally looks THAT bad. Then again though i do still play some good old classic games with really bad graphics!

Final fantasy 7 + 8 [8 is my all time fav!]
    Dune
C & C [the original, not red alert!]
    Cruise for a corpse
Monkey Island [again the originals, not the appaling remakes we got today]
