  1. Here's what I did with mine. I like CoF better than OG because it doesn't cause mobs to wander, and the visual effect is cool. Rage helps with its inherently low accuracy. I had OG on a previous build, I found the slow patch from earth mastery helped slow their wandering a bit. The build below really needs t4 cardiac to manage end, and it's not cheap, but I really like it

    Why not? Softcapping s/l/e/n is a stretch, but certainly doable. (do-able? is that a real word?) Especially with all the new shineys we've been given, like agility and another 3% def IO.

    For example, here's a fire/dark build that caps s/l/e/n, has good recharge (around 7-10s off perma-hasten), good recovery (2.4 end/s net recovery), 11 pts kb protection. Admittedly, it's not cheap. I said it was doable, not easy.

    As an aside, the build I went with for my staff/da has 45/35/35; I could've capped all positions but I felt the sacrifices were too great. I got my recharge up to 3.5ish seconds from perma-hasten, which has the side benefit of bringing my heal up really quickly.

    As to -kb, I think 10 pts should be fine for most situations. There's actually quite a bit of variation in baddie kb magnitude, check this out if you haven't:

  7. I'd want more accuracy if you fight up-level baddies. Vs +3s, you're 63% to hit with scorch (which does bruising, you want to use that on tougher opponents), 68% with blazing aura, 72% with fire sword, etc.

    I'd also want more kb protection. I usually build to 12 pts to keep me safe from Nemesis staffs, but 8 pts would keep you safe from an exploding ACU (4 pts won't) which you could easily get with a BotZ in SJ.

    Really? I was aware of non-positional psi attacks, but not positional not-typed attacks. Where does one encounter these? The closest thing I can think of would be 'special' attacks like the crystal titan or hamidon (which also bypass positional defense?) or autohit patches (ditto).

    I do agree that positional defense tends to work a little better, as toxic attacks usually carry positional tags, and it's usually impossible to cap all types. That said, of my 3 DA toons, one is built for positional (staff/da, as I can leverage the +def to melee), the other two for s/l/e/n. I feel like e/n defense helps cover the low energy resistance of DA and results in a sturdier feeling toon. (on my ma/da scrap, i got 45% s/l and 38% e/n with no pvp io, it's a very sturdy toon imho)
  9. Looks fine, the only changes I'd make would be personal preference (1 slotted nuke would be replaced, maybe a snipe? is slightly more useful with just 1 slot. And I respecced out of thunderstrike on mine as I didn't like the scatter; I'd probably swap that for charged brawl or maybe even lightning field, as I like to mix it up in melee... like I said, personal preference). You might look at squeezing some end redux into hoarfrost, granted it's not used often but that's a big chunk of end.
  10. Using boosters on the D/R in the purple dmg sets will get both those aspects ED-capped without the Dmg piece, which mostly gets eaten by ED anyway. To that end, the two dmg IOs in energy punch and bone smasher aren't benefitting you as they're way beyond the ED cap, you'd be better served by putting a proc in that slot.

    Personally, I feel like building recharge much beyond perma-hasten has diminishing returns, but I can see what you're chasing here. Personally, being stuck in a 3s animation every 22s would drive me a little nuts, even putting the power on auto, but ymmv on that . If you use MoG, you can chain SM-MoG-SM. To that end, you may find a couple of recharge IOs useful in MoG. Also, Mids seems to be showing the 'large part' of the destiny buff, so keep that in mind as well as cast time when figuring your 'downtime'.

    If you're made of money, you could use panaceas in place of the dw sets; this gives a wee bit more global rech and opens up more opportunities for 5% rech bonuses.

    I'd slot Total Focus as an attack, even at a loss of recharge. If you decide you 'have to' have that purple set there, put a boosted Heca dmg IO in the 6th slot.
  11. I took a swing at this, for another point of view. It's still likely pricey by your standards with all the kin combats, but certainly doable for most folks -no pvp io.

    I like to have both the sweep and AV combos, which means taking *all* the attacks on a tank. Sweep is not only nice AoE dmg, but the kd provides some mitigation. It certainly tightens up the build. Hasten is nice for healing flames, so I put it in there, but you could easily swap it out for something else. You can run BF-AV on this build, more recharge than that isn't really necessary (except, again, for healing flames). Net recovery is around 2.3 end/s, so consume is only for end drain resistance, recharge is fine there, too. Energy mastery won't be needed, in fact I skipped the epic pool altogether. 12 pts kb protection. Accuracy is capped in all attacks vs. +3's (after level shift, it's pretty rare to be fighting above this, but if you have to hit +4s you could tweak it a little). I built mainly for s/l/e/n, and got 36.7% s/l 33% e/n.

  13. I tinkered with planet J's build a bit, trimming out some of the more expensive stuff, and building around cardiac rather than agility. I'm not happy with the accuracy in titan sweep, and even less in CoF, but them's the breaks. I ended up with similar numbers, though you'll have a bit less recharge due to the different alpha and a bit better end sustainability thanks to 60-100% end redux in each power (courtesy of cardiac), and better resists. Just another point of view.

    I think you'll want to work scorch into that chain every 10s or so for bruising, accuracy in scorch is a bit low if you fight uplevel baddies. Accuracy is also a bit low in OG, though not as much.
  16. I tinkered with the OP's build a bit.

    Dropped touch of fear for hover (combat jumping would work just as well). I short-slotted shadow maul, if it were mine I'd likely drop that power and pick up hasten. I might drop darkest night for maneuvers, too. I left them in place as the OP is enjoying his powers.

    I think the OP has overvalued regen for a tank that has dark regen and siphon life. And stamina is overslotted. I built with more emphasis on s/l/e/n defense, and landed at 45.1% s/l, 38.2% e/n. I also increased -kb protection to 12 pts and squeezed in an ATO proc.

    Fair warning, CoF will mess with your streakbreaker in unhappy ways if you can't get it's accuracy up- which is really tough, even slotting for acc and building for global acc bonuses. I managed on my DA/SS tank, but that's got rage and a ton of global accuracy...

    I expect I'll go Barrier. This latest, lower defense build has enough recharge to chain the 3 aoe's or run the top ST chain as the situation requires. The DDR and recovery were kind of tempting, but the DDR numbers just weren't all that... though maybe if I go with the 'Take 2' build...

    I know some people swear by Darkest Night, but... I've found it to be pretty situational. Gloom's DPS advantage is diminished with weapon redraw, too. I have a couple of toons that took it, it's useful on itrial AVs (which are already awash in debuffs on most leagues) and I've also found it gives me a fighting chance to burst down Master Illusionist's Dark Servant pets before they cream my to-hit -sometimes, or at least helps mitigate incoming dmg a bit while I wait for them to vanish if not. The cast time just makes it not that useful in most team settings, not to mention a not insignificant end cost. My 2 inf, ymmv, and all that.

    It's a tight build, for sure. I'm still considering giving up a bit of recharge to pick up taunt.

    Level 50 build, Take 3
    or: I have no idea which way to go with this.

    So, I felt like I was sacrificing a lot of little goodies chasing the positional softcaps. I put together another build with 45% melee/32.5% ranged/32.5% aoe as the goals.

    And here's what I've come up with. First question: should I swap the slotting of Precise Strike and Sky Splitter?

    Also, I'm torn as to which alpha I want to pursue. Cardiac adds a nice chunks of resists and makes any endurance worries disappear, but I'm about 12s off permahasten. Agility bumps the end a little, and adds a similar amount of dmg mitigation via defense (and I could tweak CoD and weave for more endredux and less defense enhancement) and brings hasten's downtime to 3.3s (I'm leaning most strongly towards this, I think). Spiritual is another interesting option, as it drops hastens downtime to .5s, and the heal enhancement would let me retool Dark Regen a bit, freeing up a slot or two for more recovery.

  20. I think the dark/dark will be easier to solo, as it has more mitigation in the primary. Beam will deal more ST dmg than dark blast, but /dark will probably cover that with soul drain.

    I may be biased, though. I have a dark/dark/soul that I enjoy quite a bit.
  21. Personally, I'd like AR/NRG more. Boost range is nice for your cones, and /NRG gives you a build up power. Devices has some neat tricks, namely the stealth and the gun drone, but it's a playstyle that doesn't suit me- if I want to place trip mines I'd rather play traps.

    If you're willing to burn a few enhancement boosters, hasten can get by on 2 slots. I'd swap the regen tissue and the numi +/+, and add a numi heal to health with the saved slot, but you may have a better idea.

    I tweaked precise strike to include the brute fury proc and a heca proc, so had to change guarded spin as well. Kinda made sense since I won't be relying on guarded for defense, I won't be using it as often so not the best place for the fury proc. Picked up a little s/l (now 43.8%) and a bit of recovery.
