If this works for you, super. I've got bids in on some of those purples you mentioned that are twice what you're offering, and they aren't filling. If it turns out I can buy for a substantially reduced rate by posting lower offers on the forums, that's good information to have.
I'm sorry if my post read that way, it wasn't intentionally so at all.

That sounded high when I first read it, but looking at the market I realize why: I only looked at recipes when I was making my initial offers... there is an enormous price discrepancy between recipes and enhancements (over double for the same slots in some cases). I can't even begin to imagine why since the crafting costs on a bad day will be 8 mil, tops, but, there you have it.

I think it would be mutually beneficial if you were to go ahead and shoot for the best price you can get on Wentworths and I hope to do the same with some low bids on the recipes. Thank you though for the offer.

This is also my personal opinion.

Time is going to be extremely powerful on a Controller. I'm planning on an Elec/Time as soon as I21 launches.
  3. Got all the LOTG: Def/End off the market overnight for 20m apiece, edited the original post to reflect this.

  4. Hi folks.
I'm a long time player trying for the first time to break through my own glass ceiling and progress into the marketing metagame and purpling characters, et cetera.
I'm looking to buy several purple IOs (recipes or enhancements, I don't care which), but I'm hoping to get some at reasonable values, as the Market is in crazy flux right now, apparently from the DXP weekend, and as I said, I'm very new to trying to turn any real numbers of influence around, so I don't have billions to throw around.

    I'm currently looking for:

Absolute Amazement: Starting offer of 40m each
    Stun/Rech
    Acc/Stun/Rech
    Acc/Rech
    End/Stun

Coercive Persuasion: Starting offer of 30m each
    Confuse/Rech
    Acc/Confuse/Rech
    Acc/Rech
    Confuse/End

Unbreakable Restraint: Starting offer of 100m each
    Hold/Rech
    Hold/Rech/Acc
    Rech/Acc

I'm also, in a semi-related note, looking for ((EDIT: PURCHASED: 3 LOTG: Def/End (L50) 8/18/11)) and 4 LOTG: Def (L50) which I will tentatively offer 20m apiece on.

I am willing of course to take counter-offers and negotiate, as I realize I might be setting my offers too low, having never tried to buy into the purple market before.
Thank you all for your time and hopefully business.

Edit: Just as a note, if on the off chance I get a lot of offers in a short amount of time, I may need a bit to collect the influence, but in that admittedly unlikely scenario I will do my best to be prompt.

Wow, congrats. Someone's probably gonna be posting about that sooner or later, haha.

I actually got exceptionally lucky and got 40m apiece for those LOTG tris I way overbid on the recipes for, after crafting and listing them for 20m apiece (which was high, at the time). I didn't end up making any notable profit after crafting and salvage costs and the market cut, but at least I got my money back.
  6. The Unbreakable Restraint set is listed as selling for 2-3 times per slot the value of the Gravitational Anchor set, so, probably related.
  7. I just had one of these moments tonight. I was working on putting in some bids for LOTG recipes for my new 50, and meant to bid for 3xLOTG defense at 30m apiece, and.. instead somehow managed to bid that on the tri... which is next to worthless, and of course got all three instantly.
I realize that's pennies compared to some of the market gurus here, but that was over half my current inf total and the crafted enhancements aren't even selling for 30m
  8. The only ones I'd even consider are the enhancement trays and market slots, both to increase my potential influence gains (and/or decrease losses).
  9. This is a cool idea, but I have one little nitpick...

    Don't things like this...

...sort of invalidate the idea that "anyone can manage this, starting from nothing"? The fact that you have /auctionhouse to use means you have years upon years of experience with the game (and it's economy), which, while kind of difficult to quantify in a thought experiment, is invaluable to your ability to actually pursue a project of this type.

First off, Warshades being "at risk" I feel falls apart after one softcaps defense with sets: something that's only getting easier with time.

Two, and more importantly. God forbid Peacebringer doesn't exist permanently in the shadow of Warshade. God forbid they get something nicer than you. Most of all, god forbid they turn into a viable character archetype instead of a joke. Try to have some perspective.
A thousand times this. Both Kheldian types are getting some long-awaited changes and Peacebringers have been the laughing stock of the Archetypes for a long time. This is not an appropriate time or place for a pissing contest or for griping about losing the insane power lead Warshades have... I mean, hell, really, Warshades built for their potential are one of the strongest single characters in the game. Complaining about Peacebringer buffs because they make you feel less special is just asinine.

Edit: On topic, I think one of the biggest issues I have with the Peacebringer AT is the overwhelming presence of knockback in their attacks. It's been a while since I gave up on mine, but as I recall almost every offensive power they have has at least a chance for knockback. In my opinion, all of their melee attacks should get converted to KD, not just Solar Flare. I can live with the ranged attacks KBing, but would like them better if they KDed instead... the presence of so much knockback on an archetype designed to melee is just mind boggling, I never understood the decision, other than 'BCUZ NRG POWARS HAS KNOCKBACKS K?' that was used as a justification when the AT was made.
I, personally, would also like to see the targeted AoEs (and this includes Bright and Dark Nova too) turned into KD as well, because they're incredibly frustrating to play as or in a team with, im my humble opinion, but I know some people don't care about that as much.

I'm kind of with Vanden here... especially since you're vaunting this in the name of roleplay... if you want electric powers, use Electrical Mastery. Mu Mastery is a form of magic taught by Sirocco and includes the ability to summon one of his decidedly evil lieutenants to fight as your servant. <sarcasm>Real hero-ey.</sarcasm>
  12. Coincidentally, my Ice/Storm controller is also conceptually tied to always flying, but even still, I wouldn't skip Glacier if I were you. My solution to the problem is to have an ALT+keybind "powexec_toggleoff Hover$$powexec_toggleoff Fly" on the same key as my hover/fly toggle bind, which I quickly tap, Glacier, and then tap the toggle bind again. Your AOE hold is a pretty critical ability.
  13. Things I always do on the way to or at 50:

Work on the Accolade powers, especially the passives
Do the first Vanguard story arc in the RWZ to get access to Vanguard Merit drops
If a Villain, do the Patron Arcs
Reaffirm alignment at least once for the power, via tip missions
Unlock the Alpha Slot to start collecting shards
Plan a good build for 50 in Mid's Hero Designer
  14. I don't recall reading anything recently about APP/PPP/Pool customization, with the exception of a Tunnel Rat post acknowledging that it's still a very common request and stating that the art department hasn't forgotten. I would definitely not take that as any sort of promise though.
  15. I'll add my vote for Ghost Widow being the favorite in looks. She's also probably among the most interesting and compelling character story-wise in my opinion.

Ice Mistral is also very cool looking, even though she isn't particularly exclusive on costume design.

Recluse is also up there for me, except for his frilly cloak that looks like it was stolen from the grave of a dead ancient King of England or something.

Romulus from the ITF looks awesome both before and after the Nictus takes over him. Emperor Marcus Cole/Tyrant is also very compelling looking (in and out of costume).

I can't really lie though, I've never found any of the in-game models for any of the Freedom Phalanx characters particularly compelling. A lot of the ART that's been done of Sister Psyche is awesome, but her model is about as bland as they come.
As far as those characters themselves go, I really love Sister Psyche, Numina, and Infernal. On that note though, I'm not a big fan of Numina's model and Infernal's looks pretty dumb.

Foreshadow's original look was cool too, but his ingame costume is kind of generic.

As for characters that I find aesthetically displeasing, the Statesman is my number one. The 'Star Spangled Guy' is so overdone, and his costume isn't even interesting looking in that narrow scope. He should be much more interesting and unique. Hero 1 (as done in the artwork) is a cool looking Patriotic Hero.

Black Scorpion also looks very 'generic crazy robo guy' to me.

Okay. Requests for the following 'I fly by standing on something' props:
    • A big chunk of rock
    • A big chunk of ice
    • If possible, an ice trail like Ice Man 'surfs' on
    • An energy trail, something as simple as Prestige Power Slide but flying would be neat
    • A flat, plain, metal disk
    • A surfboard
    • A broomstick could work if the feet are positioned right for it?
    • A missile/rocket/torpedo thing
    • A manhole cover and/or trashcan lid
    • A shield (maybe even access to the full shield customization options? Pretty please?)

  18. Wow, it's really impressive that you can manage ranged+psi capped and still have near-perma hasten, without using Spiritual even. I do have a few questions though.
Do you feel like, in a build like that, you get good enough performance out of Freezing Rain, Tornado, and Jack?
Does the gap in Hasten bother you or is it minimal enough that you don't notice?
Do you have trouble dealing with melee-heavy groups, especially ones like the Cimerorans who shrug off control effects much better than normal mobs, or the iTrial mobs who are effectively unphased by Ice Slick?
Do you think there's merit in using dual builds for ones this expensive or should I just finalize one that I like and go with it?

The S/L capped/recharge heavy build I was working on is now looking like this:

(I doubt it would make much difference tho)
It's a passive "power." Since you didn't seem to get the comparison to Supremacy, imagine it as if it were a Leadership toggle aura on you... that you don't have to do anything to make work. Any pet that you own (yes, Lore pets included), benefits from the effect of that aura power, regardless of what the IO that grants it was slotted into.

I find most of the time its guys shooting me from outside AA that are a bigger problem than things coming after me inside it. The Psi APP specifically grants mezz protection and +defense to Psi, which is the main form of ranged attack that tends to ignore Ranged defense (and s/l for that matter). Ranged defense also seems to deflect the Carnie endurance drain ability that sends a lot of characters into the floor. AoE attacks are a crap shoot either way.
I see. I think I'm going to have to end up utilizing a second build if I feel like I need to go that route, looking over the current one it looks like I'd have to start from scratch with that goal in mind anyway to get anywhere near capped ranged defense.

I focused on S/L because I assumed Ice's dependance on being relatively central to combat to utilize Arctic Air would limit how much safety only having ranged defense would provide. Do you find that in practice that isn't actually a concern?

Gladiator's Net is actually not nearly as bad as most of the PVP sets, I've pretty consistently been able to pick any of the recipes except for the proc up off the market for 10-20mil each if I'm willing to wait for a couple days to let the bids run their course. I have used it before because several pieces of Basilisk run that much anyway, and Gladiator's has better enhancement values as well as better set bonuses that ignore enhancement level when exemplaring.
That said, if you think I need to work damage into those powers, could you suggest some specific slotting combinations?

Arctic Air is autohit, so you can use that last slot for pure endurance reduction. If you get your endurance under control with Cardiac, you could slot Hami-O: Macrofilament Exposure to increase the run speed debuff on +level enemies.
I hadn't realized it was auto-hit, thank you. Do you think, considering the plethora of slows available to ice/storm(/ice) that enhancing the slow on this (or any other specific) power is going to make much of a difference? I was under the impression that ice/storm could reliably cap movement slow out-of-box with only a few power uses. Is that not really true?

I would drop Assault. That's extra endurance you probably can't afford to spend. You can pick anything you want to replace it. I would go for a one shot wonder power like Recall Friend.

Same for Tactics. Great power but its pushing the limit on a character with so many toggles and high endurance cost powers.

I would replace Vengeance with Combat Jumping. Or, replace Assault or Tactics above with CJ and keep Vengeance. It's a toggle, but a cheap one. More importantly, it keeps you from being immobilized, and allows to loosen up on your slotting for +defense elsewhere.

It appears you are taking Flash Freeze for the cheap purple slots. IMO thats fine but long term I would consider spending money on a purple stun set for Thunderclap instead. Flash Freeze is a real dog of a power, at least in my experience, but more importantly if you slot damage proc Interface incarnate abilities, Flash Freeze breaks as a power due to its damage component automatically triggering a DoT, which breaks sleep. Thunderclap isn't the best power in the world but much better than Flash Freeze.
That was exactly why I had Flash Freeze, yes - I had no real intention of ever actually using the power (barring it being fixed, of course).

Assuming I dumped Assault, Tactics, and Vengeance, picking up Combat Jumping, Thunderclap, and... something, I'm not sure... O2 maybe? Where would you suggest I look at for slots to pull?
I could put the three from Tactics into Thunderclap and only need one additional slot to pick up the +recharge boost from Absolute Amazement (EDIT: I'm currently thinking I could remove the LOTG def/end/rech from Steamy Mist without it hurting my actual defense enough to matter), and still be able to keep the Fortunata's Hypnosis mule, but that leaves me with a power left over that I'm not sure what I'd do with... is O2 Boost even worth using with only, say, a Golgi in it? Should I consider Shiver? I don't have a power pool left to take Recall Friend as a 'meh' pick (I'm married to Flight for this character's concept).

The Ice APP is fine but if you find yourself wanting more damage, the Earth APP is a terror for this combo. You can also stack stuns between Fissure and Thunderclap, stunning bosses 50% of the time, and stunning Lieutenants 75% of the time (base mag 2 from TClap plus two 50% chances to stun in Fissure). I'm usually more of a Psi APP guy for the mezz protection, but if you find yourself not wanting that this would be a possible way to go.
I actually really love the powers in the Earth APP, but it doesn't conceptually work for this character (an ice elemental/ghost creature, essentially), am I really going to regret Ice Mastery? I was thinking that Ice Storm would have strong synergy with the build. Does it not work out well in practice?
  24. It's because your pet has no target. It should work fine if you use $target through petsay while they're attacking something.
