The WW's Hall of Shame

I have seen lots of people post about over bidding for items on accident, and always thought to myself how do you do that? Why not just be more careful? Today I have joined the WW's Hall of Shame. I am not even sure how I did this, but here we go:

Yup, 500 million for a Nevermelting Ice when I was trying to purchase an Apocalypse... Still not sure how I managed that but oh well, life goes on.

LOL at me!

See post #9 for how it happened, thanks dog fur!

That's a pretty epic goof. I wish the programmer for interfaces would fix that. I've managed to catch myself before making a huge mistake (made some smaller ones, though, mostly bidding on a stack of rare salvage when I only wanted one). I'm guessing you have the "Are you sure you want to bid this much?" alert turned off?

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

I did indeed. I was gradually upping my bid on the Apoc that is pictured so I shut that message off. I honestly am not even sure how I bought an Ice as I was not trying to buy one.

The best thing about making such a monumental error is that you tend to never do it again.

I've accidentally paid a billion inf for a common IO once.... ONCE.

Nice memory Umber. Thanks!

OP. many have done it and many will do in the future. Thankfully money is easy to earn so it doesn't smart much.

Although if I was a "just craft drops" player that would be a huge amount and I would be pi$$ed.

Haha, thanks for the replies. Makes for a great story to my CoH buddies. I wasn't going to think about it any further but I was cleaning and bored. I believe I know how I did it.

I had the Apoc I wanted selected and upped my bid to 500 mil then went to click on cancel for my previous for that Apoc. Instead of clicking cancel on it I clicked find on the nevermelting ice I was bidding on for 1k, or whatever. Then I hit enter. The reason I clicked find on the ice is a fun little annoyance that happens sometimes. A piece of dog fur gets under the mouse by the laser and causes the arrow to jump. If that is all the dogs cost me I would be a happy person, lol.

Sure, you laugh now. But if you caught them when they're in there with the tweezers, PUTTING that hair in there just to vex you, then it won't seem so funny.

I have never overbid.. YET lol but I am guilty of another classic screw up. After a successful TF I headed to the RWZ to sell off the enhancements I'd collected.. with every slot IO'd I really have no use for SOs. While there I usually just get rid of any unwanted or worthless recipes as well. Yes you have probably already guess I got carried away and sold off a PURPLE recipe I probably COULD have sold on the Black Market for 300-400 Million for ?? I can't even remember but a WHOLE LOT LESS!

Now on the other hand I have been the benefactor of a few bidding miscues... I forget what it was I was selling but it was a rare piece of salvage I was asking 1.5 Million for and instead someone obviously hit one too many zeros and I earned 15 million.

I was the beneficiary of a 1.8 billion overbid once. I posted a screen of it. Had a Panacea : End/Heal for sale. Someone bid 2 billion, instead of 200 mill. lol. Either they typed an extra 0, or they confused it for the +hp/+end. I'm going with the latter, because since they were sitting at inf cap, they were probably planning on bidding 2 billion, just they chose the wrong io. Ironically, if the first case is true; if they were not sitting at inf cap, the bid wouldn't have gone through at all.

Thanks, that is extremely nice of you! I got the Apoc I wanted, so no worries. Thank you very much for the offer though.

UNION @Flitz 50, Lead Hose 50, Red Rag 50

My worst - extra zero on a stack of 10 400K salvage items.

I have fallen foul of a bug that would have cost me far more had I not got the cash back from support. Basically before the inf cap checking, you tried to list an IO for say 300M. Everything went through normally, but you found you'd actually listed a stack of common salvage for 300M each.

It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba

I had to delete some salvage while in WW last night, making room for others I needed. I must have had mouse pointer focus on the open recipe window instead and ended up deleting a 150MM Kinetic Combat recipe I had just bought with hero merits instead of the crap salvage I was trying to remove.

Not as bad as some on here but still hurts.

You can send a petition for that and get it back.
I did the same basically with a Panacea:Heal(worth over a billion) and was so relieved when they returned it.

^^ I did petition it. Haven't heard back yet.

...and they restored it! Still, good reason to turn the prompts back on again so I don't do this again.

Hurray! See? GMs are still useful for some stuff

They actually didn't restore the same one I lost....it was a dual and I had a tri. But better than nothing. When I asked them why they didn't restore the exact same one I lost they said it was policy to restore a "similar" one, not an exact replacement.

Worth less but hey...I only lost half my money. Better than nothing considering the fault was my own.
