Hmm, this was something I was pondering this afternoon. I have a level 24 BS/SD scrapper I was about to delete (last logged in 219 days ago) when I noticed he had 7060 AE tickets on him. I decided to roll bronze 15-19 as has been suggested, and have been outright deleting recipes that had 0 bids/0 listed as slow movers. Then I started pondering if this weren't a chicken-and-egg conumdrum: Are there no listings because no one buys, or is it that no one can buy what isn't listed?

on the flip side, some of those recipes were listed last night at 55 inf, and didn't sell.

Maybe I'll craft some and see what happens. LOTS of Crushing Blow and [whatever the other, similar-sounding melee set is] as well as Serendipity and resist sets. Oh and Triage and some Doctored Wounds. The holds/sleeps/etc still get trashed :P
  2. As he has said for half his posts on this thread, that isn't the point.

My hypothesis is that while random-roll-craft-sell is the optimal approach, random-roll-sell is "good enough" as an alternative, especially given the lower overhead and lesser time requirements, not to mention avoiding an in-game activity I don't enjoy, and minimizing contact with the market to boot.
He is simply sharing his experiment that he is conducting to prove or disprove his hypothesis.
  3. Wow, guess I was totally missing the boat on that. Thanks for the info!
  4. well, yeah, I only craft the *good* stuff. most of it gets vendored.
  5. Hey guys, recent returnee after an 8 month lapse, and just *had* to try out elect/. I chose /storm just because it seemed the most "logical" thematically, and I haven't played /storm in years.

I'm checking out the new Praetorian content, and since I'm soloing 80% of the time, I'm really liking Conductive aura to "recharge" with. However, at this point I'm picking all the elect/ powers just to check them out, though I've skipped over the mass sleep so far.

Since there's no elect/ guides that I can find, I wanted to get some feedback from those who've gained a lot of experience with the set to figure out a leveling build (we'll worry about the end-game build if/when I get there, my altitis being what it is.)

Thanks tons, and say "hi" to Trailer Trasher if you're in Cole-town!
  6. Congrats!

I'm still working on overcoming the initial learning curve on which subsets of IOs to research to spot opportunities. I've been just crafting my drops, and *maybe* working a particular IO I run across when browsing where the rare salvage doesn't account for 75% of the crafted selling price.

With the update of i19, it caps S/L defense with 1 enemy in range, S/L resistance, and runs the Smite -> Fire Blast -> Siphon Life chain completely gapless (going for the recharge alpha slot, she runs it gapless with just the T3! With the T4 I can even squeeze a bit more endredux in it as well).

I kept thinking "I'll get back to it once I've started the rest of my 50s on their way to alphadom."

    And I meant it too.

    I'd get on to it.

    Eventually.

    But...

    ...

    ...

I'm trapped playing my Dark/Psi defender.

I can't bloody help it! She's just made it to 32 and got Fluffy, too, and now I'm aiming to making it to 35 before next week's WTF and the oomp it'll give her (not to talk about being able to get into ITFs too, which will be the next WTF). She's incredible. Truly, utterly insane. She has the biggest motherf#<ing cone EVER in her arsenal, she makes everything I decide to fight with her completely helpless, I get through defenses like nobody's business (thanks, Psi damage!). She's not a fast killer, mind you, but goodness me - at that level she's the most amazing thing I've played.

    A defender.

I have some really cool non-melee-AT toons at 50 already. I have an almost-def-capped /Fire blapper (44.7% melee, 41% ranged, 44.4% AoE defenses), I have a ranged defense capped icy-icy-yummyicy Corruptor, I even have a human-form Warshade that runs around at the res cap and shoots death left and right (not purpled, sadly).

    But... This defender just... Woah.

    What's the world coming to?
Your ideas intrique me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. (build please?)

On some of the other items, it depends on what it is. If sale prices are large but the frequency of sales isn't every day, you probably want to let them sit for at least a week. For my experiment, I didn't do that since I had a time limit. Also, on characters that I play infrequently, I'll just let things sit until the next time I log on. It's nice to logon to a character and realize they have 500M of sales waiting for them.
This coming Monday evening, I'm going to be mailing the slow movers to my alts to free up space. I fell into the "OMG it sells for 15 mil!" and crafted stuff that only moves 1 a week or even less. It pains me, but I've been trashing recipes that have low recipe values but high crafted values, but has 3 weeks or a month's supply already listed. I've seen a LOT of stuff that regularly sells high, but only one a month or so. Maybe I'll devote an alt to listing those, instead of just ignoring them completely.
  9. Thanks, guys! Very insightful! I only have 150 mil on this toon, so will need to raise some cash (been busy trying to outfit a MA/SR scrapper and learn 2 market.)

    Elec/Elec Blast

I have an elect/elect concept blaster, up to 25 now, and haven't really looked at what sets to work toward. I'll probably work in almost (if not every) power in the primary and secondary. Took Hover/Fly, and Stam of course, and not really looking at any other pools.

I'd be interested in hearing which sets others have taken and why. SC already completely drains minions, and I was wondering the viability of a end-draining tactic on EBs and AVs while on a team.

(Yes, he looks like a big robotic Uncle Sam)
  12. Wait, is there a special place to get PvP IOs? I thought they were just mixed in with the rest of the drops.
  13. Returning villain, and looking to IO out my old level 50 bots/FF. PVE only. My Pool powers are Leadership, Flight (for concept) and Medicine (because you just can't wait on Repair to recharge in a big fight.) I am probably going to use him as my main crafter/marketer once GR hits and you can send cross-faction emails, so he'll be soloing most times except for SG stuff. I have no idea really on what all the pet sets do or are better, and there's been sets added since I last played. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks!
  14. Eva, you're only wanting to ride a high horse to feel better than others. No one is an arbiter of how others can or should play, except the devs (and they've learned a lesson or two about being heavy handed at that themselves.) What does it matter that someone posts a story you personally don't like? I'm sure there are hundreds of players that don't like *your* arcs.

That's why there are search filters. Use them, and stop being some sort of purity Judge. It isn't like those stories are stealing hard drive space on the servers from you, or forcing you to change your playstyle (even though you fervently wish to do that to others.)

however i dont want to be a stick in the mud, but how i see the merger things will go sky high. that only the rich can afford. i have a hard time getting rare io slavage at 3 mil now itll go upwards of 10 mil or higher. and recipes that go for 5-10 mil go for 20 mil or higher. im not saying this to be anti merger, im just pointing out what might/will happen.
does that mean ill not go to the market no but itll give me pause. to go there.
these are just my thoughts. im glad yall that wanted a merger got it. im with ya on that.

now for beinging able to give things to villians or heroes thats a great move. and im happy about that.
I had sticker shock when I returned to the game, but it is SO easy to sell drops, craft recipes for millions in profit, that I can usually afford every night to either buy a couple set IOs outright (if I'm lazy/in a hurry) or buy the recipe, jump in the base portal and craft it.

I spend maybe 15 minutes total (per character) crafting and selling drops, vendoring crappy recipes, and putting reasonable bids in for the salvage/recipes I want. Next time I log in on that character, I check what's been sold/bought, then go play. When I get ready to log out, I just hit the market again.
  16. Yes, Virginia, there IS a Santa Claus!
  17. I was thinking 32, to get that last power, but I see several people go 31 and some go 33.

Guess it doesn't matter THAT much, then?
  18. So...

Returning player, going to make my level 41 Spines/Dark my MA farm/ebil marketing character. What build should I be using for this? I have no problem using generic IOs then overwriting them as I build sets.
  19. I have a BS/SD scrapper and a Fire/Fire scrapper gathering dust, and was pondering parking one to make MA rolls. Do you park at 31? 32? 33?

Thanks from a member of the "Li'l Ebil Club!"
  20. Wow, what a huge difference between level 24 and level 30! My level 24 scrapper was making bronze 10-14 rolls, and the resultant recipes in the same sets were dead at 24 compared to 30. I understand why level 30 is the sweet spot, but... wow.

I'm making well over 10 mil a night just selling salvage and crafting IO recipe drops that look promising. I sell the recipes for generic IO and crappy sets at the vendor.
  23. The only serious complaint I have is that it sometimes takes 20 or MORE attempts to register a bid or list something. No wonder there's little salvage on the market- who wants to spend 20 minutes trying to list anything but rares? Due to the atrocious and inexcusable market system (the part having zero to do with the AI) I spend almost as much time listing and placing bids as I do running missions. :P

Get the system running at an acceptable level of performance, and a lot of the UI frustration would be forgiven. I can't see how NCNC expects to handle any more traffic when GR hits, if they can't handle the player and market traffic they have now. A large part of the money spent on GR will be wasted if people log in and have skating mobs, and can't list or bid on the market after entering the numbers in a dozen times.
