Quote:Agreed & agreed. I also remember the days of enormous debt from the days of 2005+. It was a long hard road. Back then I initially played only tankers. Later I decided to try the complete opposite end of the spectrum to which i viewed to be the "Blaster." I immediately loved the concept. Riding on the edge of death as my damage output became greater & greater. A tip to the hat to Arcanaville, in that he/she helped me flesh out my first Energy/Energy character concept way back then, i.e Dr. Fear. COH in a nut shell has taken many changes since then, but i feel the Blaster out of all the other archetypes somehow fell behind. A facelift is definitely called for. Increased survivability I feel needs to be increased, at least to the point of Ice's secondary in my opinion. Why cant any of the other secondaries offer some means of soft control? Not so much to step on the toes of controllers, yet something similar Ice? I love my Blasters, but every time i'm playing mine, I feel like Kurt Russell in the Movie Soldier. An old model in a new environment.I see. You don't need to play perfectly, you need the ability to "shrug off defeat."
I don't hang out in the other AT forums much, but I don't ever remember seeing that specified for anyone else. Maybe Kin Defenders. I don't know.
I have the ability to "Shrug off defeat." I remember when the debt cap was twice what it is now, you got full debt indoors, and it took 10 hours to get a level, playing hard, in the 40's. If I remember correctly, after trying the Sewer Trial in 2005 or 6, it took five hours to burn off the debt.
What I don't have is the opinion that the "limitations and weaknesses" of a Blaster are just something to accept, given that they are so much greater than the limitations and weaknesses of EVERY OTHER ARCHETYPE IN THE GAME and there's very little benefit to counterbalance them.
30% more damage than a scrapper on a good day. 500% more vulnerability on a typical day.
I play Blasters- I've lost count, somewhere around eight at or near 50, a couple up-and-comers. I think I'm pretty good at Blasters. I don't believe Blasters are balanced. I have levelled up tanks, scrappers, defenders, corruptors, brutes. I may sometimes come to the wrong conclusion, but it's not from lack of research. -
Quote:A sound counter point & food for thought. With my slotting (5 Armageddons including Fire proc, Gladiator -RES proc), SC actually does more damage than Heavy Blow, Shin Breaker, or Spinning Strike. It seems to have better DPS than Shin Breaker (by a smidge), Spinning (by a lot), and just under HB. With the -RES Gladiator Proc, it also provides a second source of -RES for hard targets. If you really want to pump up your ST dps (for pylons or other hard targets), it may be worth keeping in your chain. It also costs significantly less end than Spinning for single targets. Just a counter point.

Quote:@Grim: You actually answered a lot of my questions regarding certain attacks. This past weekend I managed to get my STJ/NIN to 32nd lvl. After playing with a few teams I found myself questioning the need for Heavy blow & Sweeping cross in my build,..i found i simply wasn't using them. My other two questions fell on Placate & Hasten. Placate I was now finding I didn't really need. Most enemies were dead by the end of my chain. Hasten I chose simply because my MA/Regen had it (which is phenomenal on him) yet it didn't seem like a must have on my Stalker. I think many will be drawn to split paths on the choice. I feel i'm going to respec out however. I wasn't quite sure if i should go the Fighting pool again, but it seems only logical for the added defense & resist. What I found intriguing about your build is you chose the flight path. Since the creation of Ninja Run. But you answered yet another annoyance I was running into which is being knocked down. I'll look to invest in those recipes to help against it. My final problem to my build was the chain attack endurance issues. Last night before retiring, I purchased Miracle & Numina to help counteract, plus 3 performance shifters. I'm hoping todays run will show a significant difference. @Resolve: Keep up the journal, i am enjoying it big time!SC certainly has its uses, but the cone is very limited and the damage sub-par, so when I have a full combo ready to fire I'm always more inclined to go with CU or SS since either of the two or both will be refreshed with any decent amount of recharge. And while it does let you slot Armageddon, the power's lackluster performance basically turns it into a mule (hence the 5-slotting of Web Grenade for Grav Anchor, which I at least use on a semi-regular basis and is FAR cheaper).
I'd recommend six-slotting AS with Stalker's Guile since you pick up a nice 2.52% s/l resist and put the Hec proc in your quickest recharging attack. The proc is a static 107 damage at level 50 so you want it to fire as many times as possible. I put mine in IS which I use twice in every chain. Enhanced it does 107 damage itself, so with Hec it has a 33% chance to do double damage essentially with every hit. -
I went with STJ/NIN. The improvements are indeed gratifying.Coupled with the new ATO set I for once feel pretty strong on teams as a Stalker. Nice job COH, & two thumbs up.

Quote:Wow...& I thought this was only my perception. I have been playing COH for quite some time. Made a stalker when they were initially created & really enjoyed playing the class. When teaming, I often felt quite useful back then. I shelfed the character in its early 40's, not for disliking it, just that my SG needed a Defender for a short time. Today, I've been running a TW/ELA, to which I love playing. Got him to 40 & decided I needed a quick break from him to break up the monotony & to try something new for a week or two. I remembered my old Stalker based off of SnakeEyes who was since deleted back then due to limited character slots & decided to create "Taki" after watching a Soulblade trailer. I played the hell out of this character, and got her to 30th easily within a week. I know this is a long read, but bear with me. One night I'm about to retire for the night when I get a /tell requesting a team up. I say sure & soon meet up with a carbon clone of my TW/ELA. I'm kinda psyched, because ive actually only teamed with two other TW's. We enter the mission & he's got it set to +0/x8. I was 30th & he was 37th lvl. We ran room to room, and every encounter was the same. I'd set up for AS, he'd ready a Rend armor I kill mine & he'd kill his,...PLUS go into a Whirling smash, AOD, smash, smash, smash, dead. I felt no animosity to this, i actually just laughed. We continued on & more insued. At certain points he'd even say, dude, dont worry, seriously,..relish in all the XP your getting. I wasnt worried, and I actually took no offense to his comment. I know I'm a solid player, but I couldnt shake what I was seeing. I ask this question to all Stalkers without flame. "Have the dev's forgotten the Stalker's role in COX? I suddenly felt like Kurt Russel in Soldier. An obsolete model, compared to newer and more advanced models. Maybe i'm over thinking this & maybe that lvl 37 player was simply tricked out to the gills, but my perception from that game really made me reflect on the future of the Stalker. Perhaps give the Stalker an animated extreme AOE of some sort. In the end I honestly feel this class truly needs more love/attention from our devs. /rant OffWelcome to issue 6. Its been like this since the begining and nothing will ever change till we get a dev with balls who actually plays stalkers and not pretends to play them. Just be glad they let you join the tf. Normally on servers the typical response is "lol stalkers" when you try to join anything. Its only gotten worse since freedom since its easier to start villains on heroside now.

"A couple of questions: What are the advantages of Crane Kick over Crippling? With the Ghost Widow patron pool, since you don't have Melt Armor and Fireball, don't you suffer from a lack of AoE damage? Finally, I understand that Shadow Meld pushes you into that long-favored softcap, but is it possible for it to be perm'ed without sacrificing enough defense that the change is no longer as favorable?"
I prefer the animation & damage mitigation of Crane Kick. It does slightly less damage than Crippling Axe, but allows me to send a foe flying a few feet back onto their butt, drop down to a sweep for Dragontail on those surronding me, then go straight into single target damage. I'm never worried about AOE. The Dragon tail resets fairly for me, and I only have slotted 3 Luck of the Gamblers. Working on 2 more, but so far everything is running fairly smoothly and fast that its almost not even a concern at the moment. I have Judgement "Ion" blast as an additional AOE. It's nice if not awesome, but i'll probably switch it to Void for theme & concept plus its ability to reduce incoming damage. My Shadowmeld isnt perma, but its up often & quickly. As Xyzor said, Moment of Glory is often ready if not IH & im often not using them all that frequently unless its a massive alpha strike coming in or im diving into unknown groups of enemies. Most often it's Shadowmeld, but if i start to sweat, i'll hit MOG & finish the fight off with that. I dont think I would ever want SM running permanently becaus eyou turn into a shadowy energy form. I need to see my costume most of the time lol. Either way, you'll have a number of safety buttons at your disposal at all times. PS: I also went Musculature & Reactive tier 4, so single targets drop very quickly. Maybe overkill, but im going to Destiny slot for Rebirth. Sounds to me like an extra regen power that'll fit nicely in my build. -
Quote:"This." Once my TW/ELA obtained Whirling Smash it became a game changer for me. I was on an 8 player team with another TW one day and as we played the other TW kept sending me /tells saying "Dude, this is insane!" The AOE's had us cracking up. TW is not for everyone, but I do think you should at least get Whirling Smash before making a final verdict first. Good luck ya.My TW/EA Brute just got Whirling Smash and when I first used it I swear I wet myself.
It is the BEST looking power in the game IMHO.
I use it whenever I can - even to kill the single Lt/Min hanging around.
Im running at +0/x3/Bosses (level 26??) and find that my blue bar at the end of each mob tends to have approx 25% remaining. This is only an issue if there are 2 mobs very lcose by (hello Taunt) or I get an ambush (like in the Crazed Wardens Villain tip [Longbow]).
But as others have said as soon as I get Energy Drain this will become much more managable.
Also if I turned off the bosses would be less of an issue. -
Very good build, in fact it's very similar to my own, however I use Crane Kick instead of Crippling, and for epic powers I instead chose the Patron powers of Ghost Widow for Shadow meld. Welcome back

Quote:Just when I was about to delete my 34th lvl Warshade, this build is really nice if not inspirational. You should really create a guide that reflects your theories on the forms, common tactics to approaching combat, and maybe even a piece that discusses most hated enemies to easily defeated villains. Good luck & thanks.I have updated my build.
I have told some about it and I have had others ask about it.
In keeping with full disclosure I now re-release it to all.
Ignore it, criticize it, or use it. Whatever you choose.
Have a nice one.

...Looks over his many characters to play tonight, hmmm who will it be?? Ms. Bubbles? I got you to 32 Forcefield defender! "Delete-eeet" Made two Dual pistols...delete-eet. Three empaths...delete-eet, Storm..who? Delete. The Presence Pool has been wiped from my mind like Robo Cop 3. I dont even notice it when making characters. That pool shouldnt even be an option

Through the eyes of a scrapper, I light up when a Controller or Dominator joins. They control the battlefield. This stems from duoing to major teams. My team make-ups generally consist of tank, +(me-scrapper), 2 blasters, 2 controllers, & 1 or 2 blasters. As my team breaks down, afk's or whatever, im ALWAYS happy the Controller is left on my team.

Quote:I can't speak for /Invulnerabity. I went MA/Regen. MA is really fast damage. It doesn't disappoint. Grab tough, weave, & hasten. At 50, I rip through missions. I would also suggest maneuvers to add to your build....and so far I am impressed. I have no compliants at this point. This is a new combo for me so I wanted to touch base with those scrapper affectionatoes on some tips.
First, I plan on adding Cbt jumping, super jump, and spring attack. And adding either super speed or hasten.
Second, I'm toying with adding boxing, tough, and weave; however, I'm not sure that would be a good fit. I'm not even sure it would be worth it with the power sets I'm using.
Anyone have an opinion or run something similar can share with me their experience? Thanks. -

Apologies in advanced if this question has been asked numerous times. But does anyone know if there is a "Chainsaw" template out there for any of the weapons in COH???
-
/Regen has become one of my favorite secondaries on melee characters. That was not always the case until recently, when I finally started exploring Invention sets & Luck of the Gambler global recharge slotting. After playing a Martial-arts/Regen on the Hero side upto incarnate level, I soon wanted to see how a Brute/Regen would play out. I can say this, i have a friend who only plays hero-side tanks. His belief is that no other class can survive like he can, and that's fine. Over the last two months of playing together I think his pride defenses suddenly started to break once he noticed I was generally the last player on the team still alive and wading through the enemy groups. If I happen to die with /Regen, it's because I get too comfortable with my hitpoints and not realize I somehow had taken a massive amount of damage all at once. I dont find it to be super clicky only more so you just need to be cognizant of your surroundings & enemy types. /Regens has great Hitpoint management tools. Consider also grabbing "Shadowmeld." It's not a must but does help as a backup to your HP management. With enough recharge most of your tools will always be there for your disposal.

Combat, your killing us man! What's the word? Any udates to your build findings? Inquiring minds want to know. I just created one based off of your notes (only level 24) and I'm really liking it so far.

[QUOTE=ClawsandEffect;3150506]Smoke Grenade is a very underwhelming power in my experience. QUOTE]
I couldnt agree more. It seemed cool at first choice, but I feel a respec maybe in order for something more useful for my build, and there are several candidates I can think of. -
Everything the posters above said. Devices adds great solo ability and great utility regarding +perception & accuracy. Stealth built into the set, crowd control with Caltrops, (enemies running away from you arent attacking you) so blast away.

Great Odin's Raven! He returns to the forums?
And how can this be? For he is the Kwisatz Haderach! -
Some of things I'd like to see added to the place to keep me coming? "XP events" / XP rewards for interaction, but im not sure how it could be implimented without someone trying to find a way to abuse it. Like XP for different Toons that you entered "carousal mode" with, not much and with a max cap per person talked to on that mode. Maybe even more if the characters converge near the bar & more so on the dance floor. Another suggestion would be to blanket wipe all Player names in Pocket D & names/identities & levels only being given out if said player accepted. this could add an air of mystery, & get more people talking. I can also see the aspect of trash talking coming about with this. "wha?! You talking to my lady?! Lets step out to the kiosk! And for added pleasure, have some of these matches displayed on a big screen for people in the club to see. You could flash a big "Winner and Loser" across the screen afterwards like they do badges.
Yeah i know, it'll never happen, but thought these would be hysterical options. -
Far from over powered we are as a whole. And as stated above, the thrill of being so low on hit points, and having a huge fury bar, is an extreme rush, regardless if you win or lose. Thats what compels many of us to Brutes. The thrill of victory riding on the borders of death.

Guild Description: The League of Shadow is dedicated to restoring "balance" to a world in which criminals have been thriving on the indulgence of society's understanding. The city has become a breeding ground for suffering and injustice under the wings of Statesman. It is beyond saving and must be allowed to die. Atlas must be destroyed.
