Best secondary for a solo Dual Pistols blaster?

New player here! I've had the game for a few days now but I'm still in the process of trying out a few archetypes to see what appeals to me.

I haven't done a ton of research, mainly because I don't understand a tenth of all the terms you guys use, but from what I understand Dual Pistols are kind of underwhelming performance-wise.

However, I find it really fun to play, so I was wondering what the best secondary would be for a Dual Pistols blaster who wants to see as much of the game as he can solo?

Thanks in advance!

For a new player damage mitigation (to keep you alive) will be the thing you want most.

The safest secondary is /Devices. It is also the slowest secondary in terms of dealing damage.

For decent mitigation and decent speed /Ice is your best bet.

Just to note... devices is "slow" because it lacks build up and trip mine/time bomb take time to lay. /Ice has little more than BU to add to your damage. He's absolutely right though, you want one of those two sets.

I'd recommend /Devices and say you make sure to take smoke grenade, cloaking device, and trip mine. Then you can sneak in and bomb enemies, and follow it up with Hail of Bullets or Bullet Rain. Not much will survive.

If you take /Ice just make sure you get Ice Patch, and you could take Freezing Touch to stack with DP's Suppresive Fire... and hold bosses.

Everything the posters above said. Devices adds great solo ability and great utility regarding +perception & accuracy. Stealth built into the set, crowd control with Caltrops, (enemies running away from you arent attacking you) so blast away.

OP here, thanks for the advice.

I'm having a blast with dual pistols. I'm only level 6 but it feels really satisfying to shoot up my enemies. Plus, recharge times are low. One problem I've had with the game so far is that early levels are really boring, with combat mostly spent waiting for your most powerful attack to slowly recharge while pinging away at the enemy with a rather weak second attack and brawl.

So far I have 3 powers from Dual Pistols and they're rarely ever all on cooldown at the same time, so I always have something to do. Plus, even the 'weak' attack in the set does decent damage and lowers enemy defense. So I'm loving it.

I only have Smoke Grenade from Devices right now, but I'll pick up Caltrops soon. So far I have yet to have any survivability problems.

For what it's worth, Dual Pistols is more a middle of the road set, doing decent ST and AOE damage. There's some good debate over whether it gives up a little too much for Swap Ammo, but it's still pretty solid. I'm actually wishing it had a bit more of a knockback chance from its regular rounds, but maybe that's because I'm spoiled by the Energy/Energy Blaster I've been running lately.

I started up one in Praetoria (finally, I have access!), and I'm enjoying it as well. Went with Energy on mine to have good melee to fall back on, and Boost Range to help out with the couple cones it has.

Pretty sure you mean WEB Grenade, not Smoke. At level 6 it's the only power with "grenade" in the name you have access to.

Smoke Grenade is a very underwhelming power in my experience. I usually skip it and use the power pick at level 16 to put Health in so I can get Stamina by level 20. I do that wth blasters because the level 18 power is usually worth picking up ASAP. (I usually take Swift or Hurdle at level 6 or 8)

I personally hate Caltrops, but other people love it, so the only thing I can say on that is to try it out yourself and see if you like it.

Good luck with the blaster!

I couldnt agree more. It seemed cool at first choice, but I feel a respec maybe in order for something more useful for my build, and there are several candidates I can think of.

That is a problem that many of us had early on, but have now gotten past thanks to Vet rewards. I know that doesn't help you, but trust me when I tell you, we have all ben through that and yes, it can be a little slow. But the great thing about CoH is the fact that you level rather quickly and gain new powers quickly as well. You'll be cycling an attack chain before you know it and really be rockin and rollin.
