quick reply:
I'm not a fan of paying for so little content. A few costumes and emotes is not much for the money. If it was $1.99, I might buy it, but not at the price of $9.99.
I don't like microtransactions and don't play games that use them extensively. I'm all for monthly fees and paid boxed expansions, but those expansions better have some decent content, not just a few costume pieces. -

My problem with the original system was that it wasn't designed to be some grand balance between the SG-haves and havenots. It was designed to be an influence sink, period.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. And that was when influence had very little value; before the invention system and auction houses.
[ QUOTE ]
And the problem was that it squeezed an inappropriate segment of the player population, in my opinion. Large SGs that could pretty much tolerate any cost, were fine. Solo players that didn't bother with SGs at all were fine. It was the players who were, in effect, "starting up" SGs that were hit the hardest. And those players seemed to be the *most* inappropriate players to penalize: the ones actually *trying* to start something.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep. That's a very good reason why the penalty should go away. Let the SGs have prestige and let the players have influence. No one is restricted from joining an SG or starting a private SG of their own and creating a personal base.
The influence/prestige penalty is part of an outdated system and needs to be removed. -

In Issue 12 (no release date yet, sorry), we are going to have you never dropping below 50% Inf. earn rate when in Supergroup mode. We will look at the impact of that change and base future alterations on that.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's good news. Hopefully you'll get rid of the influence penalty completely in the future. Players should get 100% influence and SGs should get 100% prestige all the time. Toggling between the two just adds an unnecessary level of complication to the game. -

Cage says "Suposably" in that preview.
I realize he's supposed to be a "street" guy, but even most guys on the street know the word is "supposedly".
Not cute, Bendis.
Edit:
Damn Wolverine for interrupting what could have been a shower scene with Spider-Woman and Black Widow! hehe.

Everything I need to know about this company and how they feel about their fans/customers is summed up by this announcement and thread. That is, they were open and honest and explained what was going on, and then they actually are on the boards late at night answering what they knew would be a #$%*storm of pessimism from some people. Imagine how many companies would have made a change like this quietly, behind the scenes, with only rumors trickling out to the players. I think NCSoft is pretty awesome.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good point. I was thinking the same thing earlier tonight when I first started reading the zillions of posts on the buyout. The community folks are really handling this well.
From my experience, a lot of companies would have let players read about the buyout on a gaming news site and only stepped in to do damage control once customers went nuts on the forums.
Great job, Lighthouse and Ex! -

And what does Garriot have to do with COH? Nothing, so... shrug on that one.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oddly enough back in alpha Garriot was the NCSoft manager overseeing the City of Heroes development by Cryptic. Then he went off to develop TR.
[/ QUOTE ]
Interesting. I don't remember him being involved. I do remember Gaffer from the CoH beta boards. He was the NCSoft producer during beta. -

I'm grumpy but loveable?

Originally, he said you were "fast, good or cheap. Pick two." -
I'm shocked by this development, but it seems like it'll be good for CoH/CoV and I truly hope it is.
I see there's already talk of expansions, which the game desperately needs. Despite the ease of a downloadable trial and then purchasing a game online, it takes new boxes to get media write-ups about your game. Getting shelf space in stores also helps keep it in people's minds and I suspect new boxes get more space than old ones. Overall, expansions will be good for the game and should help expand the playerbase.
Here's to many more years in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles! -

Wow!
Issue 11 looks amazing.
I'm even excited about dual blades now! -
Merging the forums is good news.
I think it's overdue. -
Those are great pics!
Looks like it was a good time. -

Dude try actually using a CURRENT picture of him. An old avengers comic is your proof that he uses a shield? Your joking right? You even read the comics with him in them recently? NO SHIELD. Nuff said. So just stop. Its sad.

Other than that it's a wash. When in melee most heroes punch and kick, or use a bladed weapon. I suppose the tanker melee weapons (mace, axe) could be ported to other ATs, but what else is there?
[/ QUOTE ]
The vast majority simply punch and kick. I realize there is a list in this thread of comic heroes who use blades, including claws of some kind, but compared to the total number of comic book superheroes, very, very, very few use blades.
You are absolutely right about scrappers have more than enough weapon sets. Personally, I like playing scrappers and I don't really like concepts with blades. That's why I haven't been happy about dual blades. -

Yeah the more I think about it.....
Isolation zones in Steel Skyway and all of Talos? Huh?
Thats not right.
Well we know Recluse has dabbled in time travel and the "resets" on the anchors in RV.... what if someone tweeks the resets a little too far backwards....
Anyone remember the Story arc with the time traveler from the 5th Column circa 1940. Of cource it still leaves the question of Nemesis involvement as well... this scenario seems to remove him from the game.
They've been talking about a shake up, but this would be mind blowing.
One more thing... 4 years? Correct me if Im wrong, but wasn't 4 years ago the beginning of the CoH testing (Alpha or closed Beta)? I dont think open/public Beta testing started until Feb, but 4 years is an important clue.... (And arent all the fallen contacts that were introduced after the initial rollout)
[/ QUOTE ]
You're right! Taking these clues in conjunction with the wallpaper, it means, they're rolling back to I1 and starting over. Remember, positron promised something we've been asking for since the beginning...we're going back to the beginning....

Can you say "flashback"? -
Thanks for all the hard work you've put into CoH and CoV, Jesse.
Good luck with the new writing gig and the great white north.
Canada's a pretty cool place, eh? Hope you enjoy it. -
Issue 9 was a very good issue, but not great. I gave it four stars. To get five stars, in my opinion, would require a new zone (like the remade faultline) or new powersets in addition to what we already got. Yes, I'm a very demanding customer.
I like the invention system, the auction houses and salvage. I was quite skeptical before trying it on test and was surprised to find myself liking it (once IO recipes were but back in the universities). As for the new hamidon, I haven't done it yet, despite attending raids nearly once a week under the old hami system. I also have not yet tried Statesman's task force, even though my sg has done it quite a bit.
I do think that with the invention system providing a reason to earn and spend influence, sg mode's prestige system needs to go away. Anyone in an sg should generate prestige without affecting the individual's influence gain.
I'm looking forward to issue 10 and the new co-op zone. I'm hoping it will be even better than the rebuilt faultline from issue 8. I have high expectations and I know you guys can meet them. You've done it before. -
Nice! I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about this plan, but now that I see it it's pretty cool.
You guys did a good job! -

Quick and Dirty Solution to Power Customization:
In new CoX box sets, include squares of tinted polypropelene (cut to fit, square, 22" on diagonal) and scotch tape.
Pick the shade you wish, and tape it to your monitor. Voila!! Instant power color customization!!
They even have printed polypropelene for patterned effects.
[/ QUOTE ]
How about just putting out a new box for retail with the game disk and crayons? -
[ QUOTE ]
I think that it is such a desired feature than an issue with just power customization (like I9 was almost just the Invention system) would be pretty well received...
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, but no way. I would actually be upset if the devs gave us an issue with nothing but the ability to change the colors of our powers. I can think of nearly a dozen things I would rather see added to the game.
1) endgame content (for level 50s)
2) new powersets
3) epic ATs
4) new zones
5) new emotes
6) new salvage and recipes
7) new task forces
8) new trials
9) new enemy groups
10) new costume parts
The game really, really, really needs new content for level 50s. Changing the colors of powers should be very low on the list of priorities. -

They sure do. My first experience with them was on the pre-beta SWG boards. They were annoying then too. -

Certainly MMOs which can be "the next WoW" will be few and far between.
Still, there are companies with the pedigree and the funds to do it, and at the top of the A list is Bioware.

And, as you probably know, they are making one. Should be interesting to see what they come up with.
