Quote:I saw some differences in how Emp worked over pain...since I have not tried Emp I am just going by the description of the skills I read.Controllers have pain already. It is called Empathy. Pain Dom was created to give villains access to empathy. And Empathy might actually work insanely good. Elec/Rad is tons of fun. The only reason I didn't make a Elec/Kin, which I did in beta, cause I found that Electric Control recharges fairly fast already almost all kins recharge bonus goes to waste not saying Kin is only good for that but it makes long recharge sets shine.
My main turn off was the beneficial aura Regen seemed to not be a skill that you can toggle on....like pains version which is always on.
here is Empathy Regen description for those who don't know:
The Regeneration Aura dramatically increases the healing rate of all nearby heroes for a limited time. -
Quote:Does she play to? Tonight I am making my own teams I think. I'll be in GR with my Brute to ding 20..... But if you roll a new GR toon I can join you and make our own teams if you like.Hello, hello
Thought I introduce myself as well - be all friendly like.
I'm a returning, mature player (have a wife and 2 cats). Back on the hero side with a cool DP blaster. Looking for groups, TFs and a supergroup with like-minded individuals.
Always friendly and willing to lend a hand.
Enjoy,
me,
Ashtanium
(current toon - lvl 23 blaster)
That goes for anyone returning or is brand spanking new. Just hit me up in game tonight. I will be running teams more than likely. -
Quote:That's what I was afraid of... I finally rolled an electric/Kin ...now i didn't go Rad because I already made a Earth/Rad....now I am beginning to think just stick with rad if I want to heal and help end.Wow, might be intervention time...
I'm playing an Elec/Cold Dom at the mo, and I actually like the rhythm to it. I'm not normally a fan of the buff/rebuff/rebuff/ad nausiem pattern, but the nice thing about ice is you tend to all your secondary work between battles. That leaves your attention free to rock the primary during battle.
I've never had much affection for playing Kins, in trollers or doms, because the set has too much you can do in mid-battle. Heals, siphons, more heals, refresh speedboost, ugh. It's just too distracting for me.
I am really disappointed a Controller cant use Pain. I mean come on... We get the choice between Kin,Rad,Thermal for healer support....Rad so far seems superior over all. Kin seemed nice but like you just pointed out the more I mull over it...i see its a lot of tedious work with the skills in the line up.
Thanks...I am going to delete and reroll this new controller for Electric/Rad ....Would love Electric/Pain so much more but oh well. -
Since it will be easy to get teams. roll a Controller with a support with heals... you will find many teams that will cruise a long. Rarely I had a poorly built team that even my controls and heals didnt pull us through.
So far the fastest to 20 I have ever had was my controller. Second is making a true tank.. Tanker with like elec armor...slot up defense asap...slot up taunts in aura dot... so without taunt skill itself yet. you still can herd for the team... the +to energy defenses will go a long way to in GR.
just my thoughts ..this way you can unlock your Epic AT for heroes and fly a long in teams. -
I have found that the freezing bullets are good solo also. Keeps the mobs snared some to kite them. Also I believe for Corrs it does slow attack rate does it not?
I am mostly on teams... I swap between with what I think team needs the most of. Usually the toxic for debuffs. Your tanks or brutes will love you. Lethal is pain for some teams if you have a good tank.. nothing sucks more than your herd being spread out on you. -
I certainly can say... Just the fact you can heal is good enough..anything more is gravy.
-
I think the squishy drones are typical for most MM's at lower level. Some may have a bit better melee combat defenses due to being more melee leaning types.
I have not played thugs and mercs in years.... But i have played them.
It's been a very long time leveling my MM robotics...but I recall that they were not very good on hit taking till I got my bubble from protector bots...
Things will change when you get the upgrade. To me the Demonic pets are most effective at mid range to close range...while bots are long range on most of the attacks. I survived cause I had miasma going...fat heals and tar patch to let my pets workem with ranged.
I took on Leadership for the def buffs and accuracy buffs...that would help in the long term.
You may want to look into this thing people refer to as Tankermind... from what i barely read I believe the MM gets provoke and pulls mobs on him then lets the pets have at it and peal them off...I would investigate the builds on the guide some.
Do you solo a lot or team? You may consider just teaming your way to make life easy. -
Quote:I also think pre GR: brute was expected to take the alphas and semi tank while killing asap. With Kinetic Melee/Willpower, the Scrapper will do more damage; the Brute will be more survivable. That's the difference.
Since I only played Red side.... I have no clue about scrappers ...I just made two and one is 20 now.
The only difference in how i play as a scrapper is I am not trying to take the alphas...ill let the brute do that =)... I zero in on the most annoying mobs asap for team.. Suits, Seers, Bigdogs, and other pain in the rear mobs for teams. -
Quote:Im a ninja run sprint travel guy so I did a respec.....but I took Fly with Hover ...i can hang out of melee range and heal my team ...at the same time it does add some defense...only reason i took it.Yeah, good point -- preference makes up for a lot.
So, I'm doing demons/dark. I'm pretty unsure about the build. I know I need stamina, and I want a travel power (thinking tp, probably tp foe/teleport), and I want leadership... leaving me with Not Many Options. It was easier for bots/traps, where I could skip stamina.
I am really growing to hate the Stamina Tax -- with rare exceptions, three powers in every build must be the fitness pool, and you have to aim for stamina at 20 or die trying.
Plus I have everything I want so all the other powers I have been grabbing now are just fluff.
I quit this game at 40 ...just returned so not 50 yet... Hit 41 then GR launched...now im stuck making tons of alts =p
Stamina does suck as you level up so having to slot more end reduction as you grow up is necessary with the Twilight...I spam that on teams .. As for demons running out of stamina I have not reached the point where they do yet...so they are slotted for accuracy and some dmg for now...secondary pets def, accuracy ..still waiting to see when the end eating hits my pets. -
Quote:I'll add you when I get on..just saw the post. I've already moved out though on my Scrap,Tank, and Controller already.Sounds cool I have been running around Praetoria on a scrapper named Last Factor. He is 16 now i believe. Maybe i ran into you on a pug who knows. I just transferred over One of my 50s from Justice over to Freedom today who needs an active SG. Anyone wishing to team add my global @Imbalmer and send me a tell.
You should be 20 soon ..so if you go Villain I have several new lvl 20 alts to run with in Sharkhead Isle. -
there are some good tips ..some advanced... in here.
Boiled down.. Pet Control....determines if the MM is worth it in party. I can not count how many times in GR I wanted to choke some of them.
I pay close attention to pet control..I have one primary weapon move that is it...So my total focus is pet control/secondary power pool use.
I can say from experience that pet control is key. Example Robotics/Dark MM I have;
I dont get in front of my groups.... ever... I let them pass through choke points first if I have a choice.
If you notice your pets are blocking your team, GOTO is your friend to reposition them.
In combat I let the team engage...once the brute gets situated...I then Assist on him and focus fire...when the mobs die ...or close to it "Passive mode " is clicked.
Basically Focus fire, click Passive in between...this way you control your pets more and they focus there fire. Also at the same time you ensure you get in the habit of keeping them on passive.
Thus keeping your pets in check = lowers chances of one of your tard drones running off and pulling another group before your team can recoup.
I juggle my pets with Goto, All attack, and Passive. Those are my three main buttons on my mouse controls for my pets. If im not healing, I am managing pets. Either way im multi tasking =) -
Those fury chases get halted when the team is recovering and the brute runs off to die =).
-
Change up what you slot is my suggestion. I have a Spine/Electric which is solid on the defense. Though not high level yet I too noticed end eating. So I made sure to have end red in asap on every skill. It's worked out for the better.
As for KM ...I have Regen on my first try with Scrapper. End is not an issue...nor is getting health back. Surely not the scrapper that should be taking alphas and getting too much agro.
The trade off for being able to constantly pummel things I guess.
I am no scrap expert...I just think if you want more Def...take that Electric for GR. Lots of energy damage resistance. You will just need to slot some end reduction more is all.
You want to not worry about end and stay in the fight...regen is working out well for me..But i have to be more careful is all. You sacrifice taking a hit vs electric for the ability to wreck some faces constantly. -
I cant say X is BEST or Y is BEST. Its all about play style and preference. I can say that you will find Dark to be a great choice though.
Twilight Grasp is the best heal that you wont have to do frequently due to recharge , but its also a big heal. On top of that Tar Patch is the next best thing in the lineup at lower levels. I also like my Dark Servant as an added back up pet when the next pull looks tough for teams. He snares , he heals, and looks cool.
The other choice I would suggest is Pain. I have just now been testing it on a MM. She is only 21 but the Pain has some things to bring to team. A more frequent aoe heal, Share Pain a fat single target heal, and this Aoe bubble of rapid regen for those who sit in the bubble. That is what I have so far. On teams its pretty good .minus over Share Paining people leaving me vulnerable to death. The share pain is a big heal but leaves you screwed to getting a heal for a few seconds pros and cons of pain argh.
I have not gotten it to higher level like dark so no clue how well it works at high levels. -
well i recognize some of the names you are listing...you could have tapped out in NP.
Have you gone over to Imperial City ?
I have crossed over 4 guys now and working on another. I have not had one contact dry spell yet. Most of my quests contacts after NP have been through my base for my faction. From there they send me to other contacts top side. -
NAY ...its Ryu from Street Fighters Hadoken!
I have to agree the KB thing is a bit much.... I made a scrapper for the first time with KM/REgen... My issue was how well the KB landed ... though the move in question "Hadoken!"
is cool ....the KB is landing too often... making a Herding Tank annoyed.
I try my best to get mobs on outskirts and KB them into the herd...or bounce mobs off objects so they stay together still.
the largest drawback is the KB on that =\ at least it does crit. -
Its Queue! /scrams for exit before getting punched

Quote:OK switching sides or going neutral so to speak is for those already Villain and Hero.....multi step thing with tips...there is a guide here for it somewhere ..If my character is only on teams doing Resistance mishes then at lvl 20 will I get the choice to side switch if we do the Morality mission?
As for Praetorians ..... at 20 ..you will level at a trainer 19>20. Then a new contact will appear to call. This contact will give you a mission to go to the underground of Neutrosomething...(final GR map).
Once inside the underground (I suggest entrance C) you will see the mission marker. From there a chain of events happens inside ... then you are given a choice to choose which Primal Earth area to go to...be it Hero or Villain. -

Quote:Well because I didnt read the class info yet..(sorry was in GR leveling my tank).Immediately delete it and roll a corruptor or controller. They do everything Defenders do and then some.
If you want a less 'doomy' approach then i'd suggest staying away from Kinetics. There are plenty of kinetics in the world. You'd be chugging along and then join a group conssiting of 2 more kinetics. Making you feel redundant. Pick Radiation or something like that. Defenders play extremely different based on what primary you choose. Tell us more about what you'd like to do as a Defender. Do you wanna Debuff? Heal? Buff? Just general support? There are many flavors...
except rocky road... we're fresh out of rocky road.
I wanted a hero class that can heal well ..as for dps...not important.
So I am wondering does hero have a healer/mezzer thing going... I see suggestions for Controller to here.
I already have made many Corr's being a Villain... I was hoping to make something from hero line (since I dont play coh)...and bring it to red to have something different.
Basically who has the better heals and maybe some skills I know nothing of by the way that may compliment them... like Scourge for my Corr with his DP= sweet. Anything on Heroes that compliments a Def or Cor in the heals ? -
KM is the Hado ...any street figher follower would be able to agree ... pulling in the energy of the world around you and unleashing it!
Ok I kid...but I started saying "HADOKEN!" with my KM street fighter Ryu attack.
Now if they only added a Dragon Upper cut and whirling kick! wooot. -
So far no bad cases since I rolled a Tanker Tank. I have a thread in Tanker section just happy with it being my First and going Villain with it.
I have had many smash brutes in my parties in Praetoria...and I think once the group realized...Whoa this tanker actually herds and holds agro...nice... the brutes follow me around and just go nuts =).
I think that the more people get used to having a Tanker in the group and see how well a offensive built Brute compliments a Tanker...its going to be some great steam rolling going.
I certainly prefer a Brute by my side as I run in... one he can take a hit even if offensive focused...and he really can tear down the strongest mobs sooner as I hold agro..at the same time they can OFF tank the mobs I could not taunt or in range of my electric dmg aura with taunt slots.
The thing is it's pretty darn nice to see the mix...as it becomes more common to see a Villain tanker and or Brute Hero.. I think teams will want both in the party when they realize how well they work together. -
IN terms of "tanking" ...go for it. I really liked the electric defense line. very well done in comparison to my old shield and or miasma brutes I have used this far.
I think Brutes are great...just being that the only class that could really "tank" on Villains ..I felt too compelled to lean to more defense. Not making the brute I wanted. Sure later on at higher levels the Brutes can have their cake and eat it to ..defense with offense... the leveling up phases though it didn't feel optimal or best for my teams.
So if you are mulling over tank or brute...if your intent is to be a herding hit taking mad man.. tank so far is it. By the time I was 14 I was holding large clusters for 8 man teams in Praetoria. Though I couldn't kill a mouse with my punch...I could hold the mobs... which made my team roll well. Felt good to. that I could play my part and make my teams better with my job.
As for Brutes I have now taken the route I intended with my Brute...Offensive...non tank no taunt. Though I may take the single taunt to save the healer guy. That is all. So far so good... in a way a Scrapper with more defense. I certainly like it the more I level it.
This is great to. I have a team that is struggling due to me on a Offensive Brute... I can just say BRB ill grab my tanker fellow Villains ... =) -
Quote:No to stupid parsers that don't count vampire orb and temp pets..(ahem necro cough cough)
I'll take it I don't have to worry about parsers being run! Woot! But I am a min/max guy at heart. (And I count achievements in that min/max category)
Just Labs? :P
As for the achievements addictions.. its Badge Addiction here. Same thing when it comes to our achievements. And a whole lot of them.
This is a grouping centered game with solo ability. And like I said earlier. You will find that you will be in more groups than not.
