Best secondary for demons?

Okay, so, a concept has struck me, and I think I'll give it a run.

Demon summoning MM, with the entire point being to become a hero. Why? Because he's an evangelical moral relativist, whose goal is to dispel the ludicrous notion that things can be objectively good or evil. He goes around saving innocents BECAUSE IT IS FUN TO HIM. That is all. Not because it's "right" or "wrong". Also, I expect he'll be a complete pacifist, who doesn't even use his origin attack power. (You claim it's "inconsistent" for him to be willing to summon demons but not willing to punch people? THAT IS THE POINT!!! He is persuasive, no?)

But for this to work, I need to make a demons/* MM. I've been loving bots/traps, and I could always do traps again, but I sorta want something thematically suited; something that just SCREAMS overt evil. So nothing wussy like force fields; I'm thinking poison or pain, probably.

Mostly concerned with soloing, but I'd like to be at least not a total embarassment to a team.

Currently leaning towards /dark.

Okay, what does "Hell on Earth" actually DO? It looks like it fills the slot that "Repair" does on bots/, so it's some sort of a minion buff? Good power, bad power? (I know people tend to regard repair as pretty skippable.)

I'd consider it one of the best level 18 powers among the MM primaries. It gives a handy buff to the selected minion and starts summoning lots and lots of little... closest analogue is fire imps.

I also makes a fantastic mule for the pet resistance/def IO's

I call them "demonettes."

Best secondary for anything is Thermal. AoE heal and shields means nothing's killing your pets, and debuffs later on help you kill the tough guys you'll fight then. It's probably too good.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

I've heard people complain about spending too much time buffing on thermal. Or worse, forgetting to buff...

The notion of using Dark appeals to me, just because I've had so much fun with a dark/dark defender.

Dark is great since, with some clever command work, hold a boss in one shot once you get Dark's single target hold. After 32, tell your Prince to attack a boss, watch his attack and then hit your hold.

Tar patch also mitigates some of the low damage that demons puts out with a good AE -res on mobs, even with the exotic damage that demons do.

If you hate buffing but still want some resist shields consider using pain; the number is lower, but you'll hit all of your demons with on cast of the shield.

The best all around secondary is probably dark, though. It basically works super well with every mastermind set.

Active (Freedom): Setna (Ice/Psi Dom), Arram (WP/KM Tank), Tesmiel (Elec/SS Tank), Astredax (Robot/Dark Mastermind), Operative Vidali (melee fortunata)

Retired (Virtue): Gaav (Inv/EM Tank), Baqra (Fire/SS Tank)

Went demons/dark, made it to 6th level thus far, having a blast. It really is very familiar to me to have the same basic dark abilities as my dark/dark defender.

What I've figured out so far:

* Unlike my bots/traps, I will actually need the Fitness pool for stamina.
* I think I may go with teleport, rather than fly, as a travel power, because teleport-foe plus a swarm of angry demons sounds hilarious.
* Remember that stamina thing? Especially if I want leadership pool stuff, which I'm betting I do, because those powers are amazing for masterminds.

Yep, every single one of my horde of MMs have the same build setup:

1/2 Summon pet/compulsory secondary
6. Pet buff
8. Hasten
10. Air superiority
12. Tier 2 pet
14. Fly
16. Swift
18. Health
20. Stamina

It limits me to very few secondary power picks on the road to 22, but I have realised that laying this foundation makes the road from 22 on with all the yummy secondaries soooo much easier as everything recharges quickly and I seldom run out of endurance. In any other powerset, this would lead to insane boredom but MMs make up for it when your pets change and get additions as you level at 6 and 18.

I tried a Demons/Dark in Beta and loved it. I just rolled my first on a regular server the other day. So far so good. For your concept I think /dark was the way to go.

I can’t say X is BEST or Y is BEST. It’s all about play style and preference. I can say that you will find Dark to be a great choice though.

Twilight Grasp is the best heal that you wont have to do frequently due to recharge , but its also a big heal. On top of that Tar Patch is the next best thing in the lineup at lower levels. I also like my Dark Servant as an added back up pet when the next pull looks tough for teams. He snares , he heals, and looks cool.

The other choice I would suggest is Pain. I have just now been testing it on a MM. She is only 21 but the Pain has some things to bring to team. A more frequent aoe heal, Share Pain a fat single target heal, and this Aoe bubble of rapid regen for those who sit in the bubble. That is what I have so far. On teams its pretty good ….minus over Share Paining people leaving me vulnerable to death. The share pain is a big heal but leaves you screwed to getting a heal for a few seconds… pros and cons of pain …argh.

I have not gotten it to higher level like dark so no clue how well it works at high levels.

Yeah, good point -- preference makes up for a lot.

So, I'm doing demons/dark. I'm pretty unsure about the build. I know I need stamina, and I want a travel power (thinking tp, probably tp foe/teleport), and I want leadership... leaving me with Not Many Options. It was easier for bots/traps, where I could skip stamina.

I am really growing to hate the Stamina Tax -- with rare exceptions, three powers in every build must be the fitness pool, and you have to aim for stamina at 20 or die trying.

Im a ninja run sprint travel guy so I did a respec.....but I took Fly with Hover ...i can hang out of melee range and heal my team ...at the same time it does add some defense...only reason i took it.

Plus I have everything I want so all the other powers I have been grabbing now are just fluff.

I quit this game at 40 ...just returned so not 50 yet... Hit 41 then GR launched...now im stuck making tons of alts =p

Stamina does suck as you level up so having to slot more end reduction as you grow up is necessary with the Twilight...I spam that on teams .. As for demons running out of stamina I have not reached the point where they do yet...so they are slotted for accuracy and some dmg for now...secondary pets def, accuracy ..still waiting to see when the end eating hits my pets.

Demon Summoning/Pain is pretty awesome. I got a level 50 DS/Pain and the synergy between the Two IMHO is neat. You have nice heals to keep your pets alive, you can buff their defences, damage, ect, and your hard as hell to kill to boot.In pvp your a beast due to all the damage your minions shell out, while being hard to take down due to heals, and on a team with Painbringer ect along with heals ect people love you. Just my 2 cents worth.

i am leaning to demons and pain, with the right IOs, the some of the pets get basically brute resistance (then add in body guard mode to divide the damage....) should be tough as nails. Sounds great to me.

I was just sorely disappointed in app from beta. So my MM is on hold.

I haven't played a mm in forever, but got a question, does your IO defense pertain to pets as well?
