Quote:Look around at other builds first. Get a feel for what works and what doesn't. I wasn't that good with Mids to start with either. That's exactly why, in my first post, I said I had no idea what I'm doing. To be honest I was just posting that as a way of showing I really have no idea what I'm doing.
Also if it would be better to swap defensive with a damage set, then maybe I should consider not getting it and picking up another power from the pools?
I've also considered just rolling Willpower, if Fire's going to end up useless.
Defensive Sweep is skippable with sets like Super Reflexes, Willpower and Invulnerability, but they're useful on things without defense, like Fire, Elec and Dark. You SHOULD slot it for damage, but it's still a good spot for the LotG Proc.
Willpower syncs with TW better, but FA is still good. HOWEVER it's a late blooming set that requires IOing to be good. Once you get it up to speed, however, it's a wrecking ball.
Don't give up, don't be afraid to ask for advise and never be too proud to accept help. -
Okay, way, way, WAY too many -KB IOs. 12 points (3 -KB IOs) is more than enough.
You have almost NO defense built in. You can't rely on Barrier Destiny under level 45 if you decide to Exemplar. Resistance alone will not do the job. You need to get, at the very minimum, your S/L defense to 32.5% or one small purple insperation from softcap.
Defensive Sweep is a good place for a LotG proc, which is on all the time, but no a Kismet Proc, which will only turn on when you land a hit with it. Move the Kismet elsewhere and slot it with a damage set. Slotting it for defense does nothing for you; you lack Lethal defense, melee does nothing agianst ranged or AoE. You run into Council at range and you will drop, fast.
All your toggles also need to be better slotted. Your restitances are laughable, you've got almost no endurance reduction on... If you turn Blazing Aura on you will go though end like crazy, with a primary that's an end hog.
Consume has no accuracy slotted in. You don't even have Combat Jumping turned on, so it's Immobilzation Protection doesn't help you any.
I'm not trying to be rude but... This is not a good build. It's really, really not good.
When your using Mids you should keep in mind what your character is going to do. If your going to be a Blaster that fights at range load up on Ranged Defense, get a little AoE defense on the side and load up on recharge. Support and mezzers can forgo defense, so long as they have enough control and go for full on recharge.
But a melee toon needs to build for survivabilty first and foremost. You will be in the front line, drawing your share of aggro and will GETTING as much as you give. And even if you use your Barrier Destiny it won't help you forever. It wears off over time, and in the last 30 seconds before it recharges is plenty of time for an angry mob to wipe the floor with your butt.
I'm not trying to be rude or condensending, but I will understand if I come off like that. I'm just being honest, if brutally so. -
I'll share my build, but only because I already had it.
Defense is up to 34% to S/L/E/N. No Afterburner, but it has Fly. Hover is just there as a LotG mule. I also plan to use Enhancement Boosters to maximize what it can do. If you can't afford/get them then it'll still work, but with a bit more end drain.

Quote:I think I would have to agree.I love Dark Blast on Blaster but I don't like the synergy between Dark/Dark.
If you want a versatile dark/dark, go with Corruptor. Life Drain is 100% better now.
I doubt a Dark/Dark Corr will match a Dark/Dark blaster for damage, but you'll have more options to keep yourself alive in addition to being a useful addition to most any team. Sure, the Defender is a better teammate, but the Corr isn't a slouch in support by any means either. -
I have always said we needed new skins for the pets. While not nessesarly female skins, I do think new skins should be added. The can even be done via the power customization options, but instead of alternate animations they change the look of the toon and allow some colour customization.
Thugs: A mafia set is needed, and I can see a female thug set ala the Rocket Girls.
Mercs: I could see a KoA skin in there, along with a WW2 style of soldier.
Robots: I could see a fem bot option, yeah.
Zombies: I got nothing on this one, ATM.
Ninja: Female ninjas for the win.
Demons: I'd rather not see a female option for this one, personally. Instead I'd like to see another beastial skin. -
I've made a prototype farming build for my TW/FF that ditches the ST targets and grabs the two AoEs from Mu. I have no idea what sort of damage it would put out, but if you consider 3 cones, 2 PBAoEs, Two TAoEs plus a Judgement Pyro.... Plus a damage aura, Firey Embrace, Build Momentum...
I imagine it could do very well for itself.
Mind the normal build for most content is pure TW/FA with the ST attacks. Just tossing it out there. -
Generally speaking your getting them for the set bonuses. In terms of raw stats the 50s tend to be better.
If it bothers you then look into Enhancement Boosters, assuming you can get/afford them. A level 40 Enhancement boosted to +5 will be much more competitive. -
Quick question, for referance (didn't feel like making a new thread while an expert was in this on): Would 32.5.% to S/L/E/N be worth getting or just aim for 45% S/L?
-
Played around with it a little. Moved a slot from Elude to Hasten, making it near Perma. Also moved slots from Stamina, Weave and Manuvers to Tough, making up the AoE defense with Aegis and giving you MUCH better S/L Resistance to fall back on. Without Manuvers running you'll be at 48% Defense, well over softcap. And with Super Reflexes EXCELLENT Defense Debuff Resistance you won't go under 45%. WITH it on your just under 52% all around, good for iTrails and teams. Endurance drain is 1.09 per second, part in thanks to endurance reduction in Tough.
Have fun smashing and slashing.

I think Spinning Strike is Targeted because you smash the guy you hit into everyone else.
...
Beyond that, it would make more sense to be a cone, really. -
After Hindenburg's advice, some observation and a few tweaks I have what i think will be the final build. Superior Conditioning was taken out and replace with Hover. I won't use Hover, however, it's just there as a LotG mule, pulling Global Recharge up to 52.5%. S/L/E/N will be just over 34%. The Crushing Impacts Acc/Dam were replaced with Mako's Bite Acc/End/Rech. Once the Kinect Combats are boosted with Enhancers they'll have enough damage.
The Oblit in Whirling Smash was moved to Titan Sweep and the Eradication/Scirocco's Dervish slotting moved to Whirling Smash and adapted (Along with the slotting in Arc of Destruction) for more Endurance Reduction. Over all I'm even more pleased with this build.
And also, agian, thanks to Hindenburg for the Rise of the Phoenix slotting idea.

1) 32.5% to S/L alone would be good enough. S/L/E/N just makes it all that much better, particularly in iTrials where a LOT of pure energy attacks are flying about.
2) Hasten, in my opinion, is over rated, but still a very, very good power pick that I would recommend if you have a power slot to spare. If not, don't fuss too much.
3) The Mez aura is part of your mitigation. It will hold down minions quite well as Death Shroud pecks at them. I would advise taking Cloak of Fear only because, along side Dark Melee's Touch of Fear, you be able to hold LTs and the odd boss for a short time. Every second those minions are cowering is a second they're not attacking you. -
I would drop Foucused Accuracy; unless you PvP alot you won't need it. Instead slip in Focus Chi; it can use the same set and it'll buff your attack, and be MUCH easier on your blue bar.

Quote:Pretty much.Yep, mine is hovering around 32% defense vs all positions, with FS, Burn, and Fireball at 6s, 6s, and 10s recharges respectively. His self heal is at 11s recharge for 60% heal. His Consume is at 55s, but I find that I never need it now that I've got the Ageless Barrier. His hasten is over perma (read: it recharges before it can even be used, since it doesn't stack).
Since people almost always die before me, I usually softcap my defense v all by using vengeance, but I carry a full tray of tier one defense inspies just in case (popping one puts me at around softcap, slightly above or below depending on what's going on with buffs/debuffs etc), but for on-level teaming this is usually unnecessary.
I've simultaneously solod Romulus and Requiem in roughly five minutes on ITF. I spawn all the ambushes at once and kill them all simultaneously in the second stage of the ITF, and I do the same for the first stage. I've never attempted a solo ITF (all the aforementioned stuff is just in SG teams, where we like to go nuts and do all sorts of insane things), but I know it can be done.
I almost never die unless something went really, really wrong. So, yeah, we're good at more than just farming. A properly built /FA has extremely high defense, moderate resistances, great self heals and +end. Coupling it with something that supercharges its damage and offers KD *cough* SS *cough* makes it beastly.
It's a very good set.
My TW/FA build is, currently, fragile but it has only Combat Jumping for defense. If it ever gets a defense shield from someone, survivability doubles, easily.
And now that I've added Burn to my attack pool it's a real AoE wrecking ball. While it won't be built with an Epic/Patron Power Pool due to space/slot restrictions it will have a ton of AoE anyway, more so once it gets a Judgement.
Maybe I should give her an alternate farming build? -
I am a owner of a Dark/Dark/Soul Defender. While she's NOT a damage dealer she is a GREAT support character. No shortage of debuffs, two holds (Soul Storm is an awesome hold), Immobilize, a decent heal that debuffs your foe, a rez that ALSO debuffs your foe... With Darkest Night locked on to a target you can softcap your defenses via To Hit Debuffs. You can debuff To Hit with other powers, but also Resitance. You aslo get a pet.
Overall a Dark/Dark/Soul combines debuffs and control in a nice package. Not heavy on the damage though so if you solo a lot it will be a slow grind. -
You could also go for an always welcome Kin and use Barrier Destiny to shield your allies.
-
FA is the Glass Cannon of armour sets when compared to Elec and Dark, but don't forget you bring a LOT more damage to the table then either of those two. With S/L defense at 45% your much better off. If you think you'll sacrifice too much for that, aim for 32.5% or a small purple from soft.
My current TW/FA build is aiming for 32.5% S/L/E/N. -
Not enough real experience to say for 100% certain, but I'd say fire. Remember, fire's 'extra effect' is damage over time, meaning your getting extra bang for your buck.
Dark, on the other hand, does -To Hit which means your less liable to BE hit. In addition it has a Self Heal and a way to restore Endurance.
I'd say Fire wins on damage, Dark on survivability.
Again, not enough experance with those sets to say so 100%. I'm sure someone who does have that will either confirm or refute me. -
Also, if you can get it, I'd suggest giving Caltrops the Ragnarok KD proc. Lots fun! (And extra mitigation)
-
Been trying to make a controller for awhile now, but none has held my interest for long. This one might, but I'm in L-O-V-E with a TW/FA Brute I made at the moment.
Doesn't mean I can't make a build for it though. Massive recharge (Higher if I slotted full Purples), Proc Happy, Hasten just 7.5 seconds shy of Perma, Muscular Core for more damage (And Longer Immob), Reactive Radial Interface for more damage (And some -Res) Ion Core, Ageless Core, Cimeroran Core...
I opted out of Epics to devote more slots to the plant and storm powers, picking up a few Proc mules (SS, Hover and Afterburner) and an Ã’h Nuts`button (Burnout). A stealth proc in Combat Jumping because I am horrible at positioning with Super Speed. Combat Jumping and Steamy Mists will be left on, Hurricane if I need to play baddie pinball OR anything is about to get close. Snow Storm would be dropped on EBs/AVs.
Mind I'm not that experienced on Controllers, so there you go.

Quote:Moving the slots to Burn and Whirling Smash puts my S/L at 37.8%... Which is 7.2% shy of softcap.the Pounding Slugfest's are giving 1.25% defense.
those same slots could give 7.5% melee and 3.76% s/l defense if you grabbed the 6th slot on Burn and Whirling Smash.
that would put you 6% over the softcap for s/l. so basically you could drop a set of Kin Combat's (save money and gain 3 slots).
You could put Eradications in Rise of the Phoenix to regain some energy def.
Moving them to Rise of the Phoenix, however, bumps up E/N a little more and adds 1.8% Max End. That, I concede, is a good idea. Thank you. -
It was kinda late when I was tweaking, LOL. Although swapping the LotG in Phalanx Fighting with a Kismet +6 Acc would have solved that.
Your rebuild looks pretty good as well. Kudos.
As for Grant Cover, it's still useful for solo if your fighting anything that loves to debuff your defense (Cimeoreans for example) but if your not running into Defense Debuffs and your not on a team you can just leave it off. -
I also think it's a soild build, for a Shield Newbie. Shield is a good set; even when I didn't quite get the difference between defense and resistance it stood up to alot with bad slotting. I redid the build a bit, keeping in mind your high budget.
I dumped Spring Attack for Grant Cover. You have enough AoE. Spring attack is just a watered down Shield Charge and is best on sets LACKING AoE like Super Strength. The AoE Res Proc was moved to Crowd Control (With Scirocco's Dervish) which is up more often anyway giving you more chances to nail the proc. The Obliteration set was moved to Shatter.
Grant Cover was set in it's place. It's home to alot of Defense Debuff Resistance, plus it gives your allies (Not you though) a defense boost, making you a better teammate.
Six slotted Deflection and added a Resistance set for the HP Bonus and the extra Resiatance.
Also moved the Regeneritive Tissue Proc to health. It'll be more useful there if you exemplar down. Likewise with moving the Shield Wall Proc to Battle Agility.
Have a look for yourself.

I decided to toy around with the build. Moved the slots from health to your heal, where they'd be more useful, took out PP for Smoke Flash (Extra Placate = Extra AS). Replaced the five slotted Mako's Bite for a five slotted Crushing Impact (More recharge) and a few other things.
