Are /FA Brutes Good at Anything Else?
Mine is softcapped to s/l. It is a very sturdy toon. I have been the only brute or tank on sucsessful baf runs. One of my favorite tions. Also tanked stf lady grey and itf with it.
A well built and properly played /FA brute can be both sturdy and deadly. What would make you think otherwise? On SOs, sure, you probably will not be tanking RSFs or anything else unless you have some pretty heavy support. But there are too many ways to increase survivability to think that it can't be done.
My main is a fm/fa with about 46.7% s/l defense, and let me tell you... you have not experienced /fa until you have played a softcapped build. Contrary to what some may tell you, you can have your cake and eat it too with a defense capped, high recharge build. My build sacrifices nothing, but it just wasn't cheap.
So I guess the moral of the story is that a /fa toon can be great if it is well played and well built. It may cost a lot to get to the point of tanking sf content, but it can be done. You might just not be a /fa player at heart if the drawbacks are too heavy. No, you are not as sturdy as some other options out there. That's what healing flames are for!
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.
"You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off. Definitely not worth it."

My SS/FA tanks Incarnate Trials... so yes.
My Dark/FA Brute has been my main since CoV started, it's my main badger sitting just below 1300 and has every single MO, the only time he has been in AE was to get the badges and hasn't been in there ever since, I've had no complaints with the way he functions and am often invited regularly from all over the place, So yep I would say it was good for something else.
Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.
Slazenger, Area51, Area53, Area54, Erruption, Mind Plague, Thresher, Sheath, Broadside, Debt
FA is the Glass Cannon of armour sets when compared to Elec and Dark, but don't forget you bring a LOT more damage to the table then either of those two. With S/L defense at 45% your much better off. If you think you'll sacrifice too much for that, aim for 32.5% or a small purple from soft.
My current TW/FA build is aiming for 32.5% S/L/E/N.
Someone has soloed a MoITF in his SS/FA before incarnates iirc, it's in his sig.
I have a farmer SS/FA slotted only for recharge and he tanks +2 LGTFs okay (only did speed itfs with him so it was no issue). And 'okay' because I have to use some insps for defense since he only has fire def (he's just a farmer), but otoh one of the reasons he can do it is that SS/FAs do so much damage the mobs are dead stupidly fast.
But if I hadn't done it I'd maybe have the same question, since when I started playing Ii9/i10) I saw so many Fire *Tankers* dying more than crazy blasters that I had the impression they were very fragile.
Yep, mine is hovering around 32% defense vs all positions, with FS, Burn, and Fireball at 6s, 6s, and 10s recharges respectively. His self heal is at 11s recharge for 60% heal. His Consume is at 55s, but I find that I never need it now that I've got the Ageless Barrier. His hasten is over perma (read: it recharges before it can even be used, since it doesn't stack).
Since people almost always die before me, I usually softcap my defense v all by using vengeance, but I carry a full tray of tier one defense inspies just in case (popping one puts me at around softcap, slightly above or below depending on what's going on with buffs/debuffs etc), but for on-level teaming this is usually unnecessary.
I've simultaneously solod Romulus and Requiem in roughly five minutes on ITF. I spawn all the ambushes at once and kill them all simultaneously in the second stage of the ITF, and I do the same for the first stage. I've never attempted a solo ITF (all the aforementioned stuff is just in SG teams, where we like to go nuts and do all sorts of insane things), but I know it can be done.
I almost never die unless something went really, really wrong. So, yeah, we're good at more than just farming. A properly built /FA has extremely high defense, moderate resistances, great self heals and +end. Coupling it with something that supercharges its damage and offers KD *cough* SS *cough* makes it beastly.
It's a very good set.

My TW/FA build is, currently, fragile but it has only Combat Jumping for defense. If it ever gets a defense shield from someone, survivability doubles, easily.
And now that I've added Burn to my attack pool it's a real AoE wrecking ball. While it won't be built with an Epic/Patron Power Pool due to space/slot restrictions it will have a ton of AoE anyway, more so once it gets a Judgement.
Maybe I should give her an alternate farming build?
Can /FA brutes do much more than farm AE and newspaper missions?
I don't see them tanking strike forces or anything else...
