Request: PvE Scrap TW/FA With Fly

Problem: I know squat all about builds and always end up confused and frustrated.

Solution: Ask nicely for some help in the Build Workshop forums to see if some build experts can lend me a hand.

I'm a Scrapper that's looking for a good PvE build that uses Titan and Fire Aura. Right now my level of killing power is next to nothing, and I'm sure it's because I haven't IOed yet (or really know how to play period x_x) Problem is, I also have no idea what I'm doing in Mids and always come up with odd builds. I was hoping I could get some help (I know how to import into mids properly). The only thing I can honestly say is that I want to be able to PvE very well, and I would like to have Fly (preferably Afterburner). Oh and I have no luck so I'm not likely to be able to afford purples. I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

I'll share my build, but only because I already had it.

Defense is up to 34% to S/L/E/N. No Afterburner, but it has Fly. Hover is just there as a LotG mule. I also plan to use Enhancement Boosters to maximize what it can do. If you can't afford/get them then it'll still work, but with a bit more end drain.

Okay, way, way, WAY too many -KB IOs. 12 points (3 -KB IOs) is more than enough.

You have almost NO defense built in. You can't rely on Barrier Destiny under level 45 if you decide to Exemplar. Resistance alone will not do the job. You need to get, at the very minimum, your S/L defense to 32.5% or one small purple insperation from softcap.

Defensive Sweep is a good place for a LotG proc, which is on all the time, but no a Kismet Proc, which will only turn on when you land a hit with it. Move the Kismet elsewhere and slot it with a damage set. Slotting it for defense does nothing for you; you lack Lethal defense, melee does nothing agianst ranged or AoE. You run into Council at range and you will drop, fast.

All your toggles also need to be better slotted. Your restitances are laughable, you've got almost no endurance reduction on... If you turn Blazing Aura on you will go though end like crazy, with a primary that's an end hog.

Consume has no accuracy slotted in. You don't even have Combat Jumping turned on, so it's Immobilzation Protection doesn't help you any.

I'm not trying to be rude but... This is not a good build. It's really, really not good.

When your using Mids you should keep in mind what your character is going to do. If your going to be a Blaster that fights at range load up on Ranged Defense, get a little AoE defense on the side and load up on recharge. Support and mezzers can forgo defense, so long as they have enough control and go for full on recharge.

But a melee toon needs to build for survivabilty first and foremost. You will be in the front line, drawing your share of aggro and will GETTING as much as you give. And even if you use your Barrier Destiny it won't help you forever. It wears off over time, and in the last 30 seconds before it recharges is plenty of time for an angry mob to wipe the floor with your butt.

I'm not trying to be rude or condensending, but I will understand if I come off like that. I'm just being honest, if brutally so.

That's exactly why, in my first post, I said I had no idea what I'm doing. To be honest I was just posting that as a way of showing I really have no idea what I'm doing.

Also if it would be better to swap defensive with a damage set, then maybe I should consider not getting it and picking up another power from the pools?

I've also considered just rolling Willpower, if Fire's going to end up useless.

Look around at other builds first. Get a feel for what works and what doesn't. I wasn't that good with Mids to start with either.

Defensive Sweep is skippable with sets like Super Reflexes, Willpower and Invulnerability, but they're useful on things without defense, like Fire, Elec and Dark. You SHOULD slot it for damage, but it's still a good spot for the LotG Proc.

Willpower syncs with TW better, but FA is still good. HOWEVER it's a late blooming set that requires IOing to be good. Once you get it up to speed, however, it's a wrecking ball.

Don't give up, don't be afraid to ask for advise and never be too proud to accept help.

I built for melee defense, instead of S/L, to stack with Defensive Sweep better, and this build would be able to softcap with only one application. Crushing Blow is unnecessary - six attacks is plenty, and CB isn't an exceptional attack anyway, so I skipped it and put in Hasten. I shuffled the order of some powers around, most of them not terribly important, although I would definitely recommend taking CJ at a low level since Burn is your only other immobilize protection, and doesn't come until 28. This is definitely not a masterpiece of a build, and improvements could probably be made if I spent more than five minutes planning it, but hopefully it gives you some ideas or a starting point.

Is this for a character that is already level 50, or are you leveling up?
At the risk of sounding nitpicky the build's Ranged and AoE defense is very poor. When facing down anything that only/mostly uses melee attacks it'll work great, but if they use alot of Ranged or AoE your in trouble.

I will say, however, this would be a GREAT farming build. Since most farm toons only use one, maybe two, ranged or AoE attacks it'll probabbly do well in AE farms. General content, not so much, but farming very much so.

Okay, that's better, much better. A few things to address...

Always keep a damage aura, like Blazing Aura, on. You need to account for the end drain and it won't whittle down baddies while off.

Obliteration is a good set, but your TW attacks are HUGE drains on endurance. It takes 19 end to USE Arc of Destruction unenhanced. With Oblit? 16. Still heavy.

Also the Kinetic Knockdown Procs are okay to use, BUT if you use them in powers that already have Knockdown (IE Follow Through) it'll turn into KnockBACK, which you don't want. Knockback is bad for melee toons.

Also while it's nice you toned down the -KB IOs, 8 points will still see you knocked down on your butt now and agian. To get comparable protection to other sets you need 12 points, or 3 -KB IOs.

Also if you should have, at a fairly low level (10-18) Combat Jumping. Firey Aura's Immobilization protection is in Burn, and it comes in late. Combat Jumping has enough protection to take care of that, in addition to bumping your defense up, and is good for a LotG proc. It's a cheap toggle to run as well, so you don't need to invest slots into it.

It's a much improved build. I tweaked it a bit for your viewing.
