Quote:For the first paragraph, if it's useful or not is subjective. And someone would still buy them even if they were $200 each, so I don't think "people are buying them" is ever a valid excuse. The actual questions they should be asking are A) how many people are buying them at the current prices, and B) would more people buy them if the were cheaper (and how many), and C) would that equal greater profit.Feedback does help improve the game. It's questionable whether "Costume slots are way too expensive" constitutes useful feedback, especially when anecdotal (forum) evidence exists that people are buying them at the current prices.
As for the number of characters/account, you're probably both right and wrong. In absolute terms the number of characters/account is probably quite low. However, if you look at the population of people that are willing to subscribe and pay over and above the subscription, then the character density is probably quite high.
(Oh, and how come your OCD hasn't made you max out your character slots?)
The cheaper things are in a microtransaction system, the less people think about buying them. Interesting economic studies on things like that; you can give one person a $50 bill and another person 50 $1 bills, and the one with the 1s is far more inclined to spend the money. That can lead to a larger profit for the company if they capitalize on it. CoH's microtransaction system is actually somewhat strange to me. Usually games will have tons of super cheap things that are a few cents to a dollar so people don't think twice about tossing a few quarters a day at things, until they don't realize they've spent $50. I don't know of any other games that mostly focus on big-ticket items that are generally $10+ each, with no real "candy" items that people blow loads of cash on without realizing it.
And for the last paragraph, I sort and organize my characters and their costumes in various ways. I sort and organize the powers on my tray and the inspirations I use. OCD rarely conforms to the expectations of onlookers. The order and what needs to do what rarely makes sense to anyone but the person doing it. -
Quote:If I wasn't used to it I wouldn't be around. I always have something to complain about. And I don't always get my way. But feedback is what helps improve the game. <If that's the case, then you're an extreme outlier and you should get used to things not being the way you'd like...
>
Also I seriously doubt 48 characters is anywhere near the average. Even for the types of people who would be buying costume slots. I'm one of those people (I have a character with more than 40 costumes), and I only have 20 characters. I imagine the average number of characters per account is a lot closer to a single digit. -
Quote:I do have to buy all five at once. Because I'm OCD. Even if I wasn't, $7.50 per slot is overpriced. If it's overpriced for all, it's overpriced for one. I'm not looking at "What can I get for $x?" I'm looking at "What's the value of these items?" The value is too low. I'm not looking to see how many slots I can get for $x. I'm looking to see how much they're asking per slot. Which is still too much. There's nothing keeping you (or anyone) from buying one extra costume slot, and $7.50 is well within 'impulse buy' range for a lot of players. Pretending that you have to buy all five at once is just silly.
In other words, I would happily spend $12.50 and get all five slots. I might consider buying all five slots for $25.00. Otherwise I'll be buying zero slots. -

Street Justice I'm getting immediately. Rerolling a level 34 character for it.
Costume slots are still not worth it even at 25% off. If you guys still think I'm going to spend that much money on extra costume slots, you're totally loony. I'm not going to pay $37.50 for more costumes. I might buy them if they were 75% off. Otherwise I'm spending exactly $0 on this. -
Apparently, we're given paragon points on the first Tuesday or Thursday after the full moon that falls on or after the equinox. Unless your billing cycle date is the 1st through the 10th in which case you add 14 days to the date and begin from there. If the total goes over 31 days you set the date to the 17th. In months with less than 31 days you do the entire calculation backward assuming your billing cycle date lies on the 28th through the 30th. For months beginning with a vowel, it's the last Sunday of the month, provided there was no Friday the 13th.

Quote:To be honest, I'm right handed too and I can play CoH entirely with my left hand. And quite often do.The right arm, and he was right-handed. He has been in PT for two years now, so he has done pretty well at retraining his left hand - he has sloppy handwriting, but he can use it pretty well.
I keep my left hand on homerow, which means on ASDF. I can reach 1-6 easily, 7-0 with a little moving. With the addition of alt and ctrl I can get 12-18 power clicks within easy reach. Being on homerow also means I can move my character around easily, and jump. I do however use ESDF instead of WASD (that's the same thing, just shifted one key over so my index finger rests on the home keys). I normally don't have to move around much mid combat. Ranged characters handle this easier, but even on melees I just tab through targets and use a follow key (bound to G). I also have V bound to "target nearest." All of this is done with just one hand, without much movement from the home keys. With a little bit more movement you can hit the F keys for inspirations.
The only time I'd ever need to use my right hand would be to click on something. Normally my right hand is just resting on a mouse. I might be fiddling with the zoom or volume or something. Sometimes when my other computer is up I may be typing on it. Yes, I can type with one hand. Anyway, my right hand isn't necessary for play. 99% of the game including combat and just getting around can be done with one single hand on homerow. He might have to move his hand to click on NPCs and glowies but that's about it. And this is just a setup with a regular keyboard with no special binds.
Hope your friend finds a configuration that works out for him. -
Darn, I thought this was going to be about powerset suggestions. I was going to say StJ/Willpower. Your primary is Saint Justice, and you're fueled by the power of will and faith. You prefer peaceful resolutions to conflicts, but if that fails, you turn the other cheek and then kick them in the face when you come back around. You kick *** for the Lord!
-
Powerset's the same all around for the most part. There are no pet-based powers like Elec that make it lean toward Scrapper, and no AT-variant powers like Kin. I guess it's worth noting that crits aren't changed by your combo level so if that bothers you, you may want to stick to Brute. You can play it on whoever you like though.
Stalkers are as always the major difference. They lose out on the -RES power. They have BU instead of the BU variant that adds 3 to combat level. And their AS adds 2 to combat level. They retain all the AoEs though. So, if that's more your cup of tea go for it.
(I know you didn't ask for personal preference, but I'm going to do a Scrapper because I prefer consistency after a bunch of Brute alts and dealing with Fury) -
Quote:I'm not sure which Shadow Meld you're using, but the one my Scrapper has lasts 15 seconds (not 8), gives 32% DEF if slotted (not 14), recharges in 90 seconds (not 3 minutes), doesn't anchor you in place, can't be interrupted, and is only 5 endurance (not 30).Did you just say Shadow Meld?
As inthe level 44 patron power from Ghost widow Shadow meld?
The power that lasts less then 8 seconds for 14% defense...that shadow Meld?
The power that takes 3 minutes to recharge...Shadow Meld?
The one that anchors you in place to activate and actualy can be interupted and thus wasted....the same power that uses 30 energy to start it.
You do know an Inspiration lasts 1 minutes and provides 25% defense?
And you can stack those and use them as you like.
I am just making sure.....on which power you are talking about.....because i am thinking you might be refering to something else.
Why you... -
Quote:More like:Freemiums can participate in the Seed of Hamidon event in First Ward, but not the arcs unless purchased a la mode.
I would think that for those not too interested in reading mission info that the normal path would be:
- Death From Below
- At level 8 go to Kings Row for Radio Mission and the Safeguard for the Fly Pack.
- More Death From Below until 14, then Posi I and II
- At level 18, Faultline for the two 15-29 arcs.
- At 20, a lot of options open up
- Death From Below
- At level 22, buy SOs
-
-
So basically you get all your rewards on totally different days.

I would buy that just for the bow if it's a head detail and doesn't lock me into a specific hairstyle to use it.

Now I feel compelled to stand in Virtue and try and confuse every single person who says sewer trial in broadcast.

Quote:It's not our fault the devs decided to call it Street Justice instead of Street Fighting. Even after at least one of the devs commented on an article about how devs should be more mindful of the inevitable abbreviations of things they create, and how they made a mistake with allowing three different zones to be abbreviated SC. Yet somehow they decided to have the set be SJ (and confusable with Super Jump) instead of allowing it a non-confusing acronym of SF.Are we seriously going to keep calling this StJ so it's harder to type? Are we worried about that SJ might be confusing with Super Jump? Because that didn't stop the Architect being called MA and being horribly confusing with Martial Arts.
Or can we instead just cry for justice? -
Quote:I actually like Thunder Strike and was glad to see more sets getting melee TAoE attacks. With my Elec/Invuln Brute I prefer Thunder Strike's mechanics because I can toss an AoE where I want instead of it always being centrally focused. I can always put the AoE where it will do the most damage, instead of just hoping there are an even number of guys on all sides of me.People dont seem to understand how spinning strike (is that what its called?) works.
It's actually pretty crappy. It'ss like thnunder strike, both of which can be summed up as "Super cones" which are better than cones (kind of) but not as good at a PBAoE. Both are medicore at best, and lets not forget that you will need to build up a combo level of 3 to get that nice dmg. So SJ wont come anywhere never SS/.
SJ has really good STdps though, its AoE is just lacking. Of course, it looks WAY cool and it really really fun XD
I wouldn't call it crappy. Yeah it's not Foot Stomp, but nothing is. Foot Stomp has a 15 foot radius. Most PBAoEs are 8. I also don't think building a combo level is going to be a problem. All it requires is for you to use some ST attacks inbetween the AoE. Unless you normally just put your AoE on auto and don't attack inbetween uses, it's going to be about the same.
The combos also have incremental bonuses for different combo levels. If your recharge is high enough you can spam AoEs it's quite possible you'd get more DPS out of doing level 2 combos repeatedly. Unlike DB it's not a "3 or bust" system. -
Quote:Purple sets excel at neither of the things you just mentioned. They excel mostly at recharge and accuracy. Unless your friend is packing heavy recharge to bring up powers that give him more damage or defense, it wasn't the purples making him do that.I've been playing for around 2-3 (yrs casually gaming) and I've always used regular IOs for my heroes. Recently, a friend made a build for me using mostly purple enh. and I was blown away at the damage being dealt and less dmg. taken.
Purples are good at recharge, which can be a useful thing for some builds. My Dominator has a couple purple sets because she has a lot of long animation times and click powers. My best character however, my Widow, has plenty of room for purples but I don't use them (except one set in her ranged AoE because there's nothing better for ranged AoEs). Instead I use Makos and Obliterations to get +DMG. She has +30% DMG through set bonuses; something purples can't really do (one set does +4% DMG but that's it).
If you want defense, you should look at Thunderstrike, Kinetic Combat, Mako, BotZ, and things like that. Purples don't really add any defense. My Blaster is outfitted with a bunch of Thunderstrike and Mako. She has like 35% ranged DEF. None of that is due to purples.
Don't fall into the newbie mistake of thinking that purples are the answer to your build, or that purple = best. Depending on what you want you may be more inclined to totally avoid purples, or just use a few here and there. If you only care about recharge, purples are good. If you want accuracy, you can generally get enough without resorting to purples. If you want damage, HP, DEF, or a variety of other bonuses, you'll find them in much cheaper sets. -

The pack has 12 costume parts right?
400 points = $5.00
5.00 / 12 = $0.42/ea
This is higher than the current average for costume parts (which I think is closer to 38 but I don't remember offhand), but it's still much better than the totally absurd $1.00 per part of the backpack and volcanic aura. I personally don't intend to spend more than 50 cents for any one costume part (or collectively as a pack). But I'd still like to see the numbers closer to 30 than 50.
300-350 points for this pack would've been a much more fair value. Try to consider how many parts are in the pack in the future, devs. Don't just slap 400 on all of them regardless. -

Quote:Also you get a respec for running a patron arc (which requires you to be redside for a bit but you can come back if you want).Absolutely correct. And that's why we have
Veteran Respecs
Issue freespecs (nearly every issue)
Respec Recipes (While rare, certainly obtainable.)
And now,
Enhancement Unslotters.
(and I may have missed something in there.)
edit: Oh yeah, 3 respec trials, which ain't that hard.
Arcanaville's statement regarding GW is very on-point. -
Quote:They did update the animal pack with a few additions. Maybe they'll do the same for this one.Pretty much. Seems like, in this game, once something like this comes out, it's not going to get revisited, except maybe to fix minor bugs. I can't ever think of a time where content like this ever changed because of feedback, no matter how much of it they received.
