Quote:What if, even in the failed runs, I actually found the new content fun? If you don't think they're fun, don't do them. If you immediately go into these raids with the mentality of "I NEED NEW GEAR NOW!" they are not going to be fun and they're going to be grindy.Repeat because it's fun, repeating on an "as I feel like it" basis? Great.
Repeat to get gear to repeat and do better to get required gear to repeat to do better? Not fun.
I remember plenty of discussion about how difficult the ITF was when it first appeared. It's become routine to the point that a failure during the ITF is a rarity.
If people don't find two pieces of content fun, there's 99% of the game still available to them, and two swanky new TFs for mid-level characters to try out. -
Quote:It's still a feat to get that edited together just right, though. I mean, they frequently have overlapping conversations and dialogue and it still manages to come out funny and doesn't sound force or convoluted.Separately, it would seem. (There's a behind-the-scenes clip on Amber Nash, the voice of the redoubtable Pam, on Hulu.com that features the recording booth.)

Quote:FYI...Shards can be converted to threads, and shards can now be gained even when you exemplar down.I am quite unhappy that threads and progress on the new slots is only limited to two pieces of content, but I'm still curious to see how they work.
You'll still need the appropriate Incarnate XP to get the slots open, but technically you are able to move forward after that without touching the two new pieces of content. Of course, it's not as easy to do so, but it is possible. -
Quote:You're stunned? I was expecting this...I have to say. I have been around since just before i5 and I'm absolutely stunned that somebody would start a thread the day an issue hits complaining how the devs have wrecked the game. Stunned I tell you. I swear it's like it's never happened before. Oh wait...
Oh, wait, sarcasm detector going crazy!
Lastly...
DOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM! -
Quote:Except that end game content has essentially been non-existent for 7 years. Maybe it's about time that part of the game actually got some attention. And now that it FINALLY is, people are having hissy fits (yes, hissy fits) about it.I remember issues that were well rounded content wise for a variety of players, with some issues being the exceptions of course.
But this is a trend of more to come, not the exception IMVHO.
There is more than enough content available for characters to level from 1-50 without overlapping too much in content currently. AND, they did just add two new TFs in the 20 - 40 range. If you're already saying there isn't enough stuff for lower levels, you're probably just bored with the game in general. -

Quote:I was going to mention that I really like how Cheryl keeps changing her name. Judy Greer was awesome on "Arrested Development" in the few episodes she was on.Between this and Bob's Burgers, I am overloaded with H. Jon Awesomeness. Been a fan of his since Dr. Katz.
Of course, the rest of the voice cast is as awesome. Jessica Walter and Judy Greer in particular.
I'd also really like to know if they're recording the dialogue together or separately. The timing and overlap on many of the conversations seems incredibly too perfect. If they are all in the recording booth together, I'm even more impressed, because the timing of the cast to work with each other like that is amazing. -
Quote:Yeah, so sorry you didn't get the difficult end game rewards on the first day it was out.Perhaps your right, I should give it more time, but honestly, I have played this as many times as I could squeeze in since the servers came up without a SINGLE success. Judgement was the shiny for me, and I am feeling sincerely let down that the design policy of CoH, respect that we are dealing with Super Heroes, is out now. We're getting pwned... and not in a fun, this is a game kind of way. We are getting ONE SHOTTED .25 seconds to death, no saving the TANK from death when you have an Empath Defender on the team.
::sighs:: but your right, balance will come in time.
I didn't either, but at least I'm willing to keep trying.
And, yes, those Siege robots are difficult. Merely being soft capped for defense is no longer good enough. You'll need buffs on top of all that to succeed, and I saw the usually unkillable stone tankers in their cool rock armor getting dropped in seconds. For the record, my electric brute loaded up on purple inspirations at the combat medic, popped 10 of them before charging in, and managed to last on my own until they dropped. Then I got dropped.
Even the failed runs were fun for me. -
I didn't have too much time last night, so got in one Lambda and one BAF. Succeeded at neither, but had a blast trying. And LEARNED a lot about how they work so I'll be ready for my next attempts tonight.
Also not surprised to see the usual whiners complaining about these. If you don't want to run them, don't. It's pretty simple. -
I was on two failed trials last night, which was okay as they were fun.
A couple of key things I learned:
1) Make sure everybody can see and communicate in league chat. On one trial, there were too many people heading in the wrong direction despite the leader telling them to go the other direction. It just leads to confusion and failure.
2) Teams need to stick together on most parts of the trial, except when you need to separate before your showdown with Marauder.
3) Be willing to join a Trial in progress. They are starting with the minimum number of people needed, and more people inside means a better chance of success. Also, it will probably reduce your wait time to enter.
4) Speed is of the essence on the AVs. If you take too long to go after them, the reinforcements pile in quickly. This probably won't be as much of a problem when people start getting their Judgement slots filled, but it was certainly a problem to see Marauder surrounded by about 100 MOBs.
As others have said, even a failure gains you XP and Threads, so it isn't a total loss. Also, people will learn how to run these better and be more efficient. -
A couple of basic points I'd like to make based on two failed incarnate trials last night:
1) Make sure you can see and communicate in the League Chat. I saw too many people who weren't doing this, didn't quite catch on to the new interface, and they stood around doing nothing in the wrong place.
2) Be willing to join an in-progress trial. These things start when the minimum number of people needed are ready to go. This typically isn't enough people so more are always welcome. It will also cut down on your wait time.
And, yes, both of these trials are hard. They're meant to be. I welcome this. And it will get easier once we start getting some more Incarnate slots opened up and slotted. -
I didn't catch onto this show until recently. The second season has been awesome. Snagged the first season on DVD and am almost through all of that.
Great show. The whole cast is remarkable, not just Benjamin.
I loved the close of last week's:
Pam (after stripping off her shirt and revealing some pretty frightening tattoos and about to deliver a beating to Malory): DOES ANYBODY WANT A PIECE OF THIS?
Shot of the rest of the cast...long pause...
Lana: Noooope! -
Quote:1 is typically enough to prevent 95% of the KB in the game, actually.Yeah I'd recommend 2 Steadfast KB protection IO's if you can fit them in, 2 is enough to cover pretty much anything except being hit by a Fake Nemesis's force bolt.
The Kinetic Crash set only has a -3 KB protect, which isn't enough on its own.
With the Steadfast slotted, the only things that manage to knock me down:
1) Fake Nemesis force bolt
2) Summoned Phantasm energy torrent (hate those things)
3) Occasional AV with super KB powers.
I can't remember if those Longbow EBs can do it or not (it's been awhile).
The best bet for a non-melee character, though, is probably the Karma -KB IO. It can be put in powers like Hover and Combat Jumping, which you can get early on, and they're also fairly cheap (relatively) to obtain, especially if you can wait to slot a level 30 version at level 27, and their isn't a tremendous amount of knockback until you get past level 30, so the journey shouldn't be too unbearable.
If you're one of those melee types without KB protection with damage resist powers, spend that extra slot on a low level power and slot a steadfast. BotZ probably isn't worth it, all things considered. -

If you're talking about AFTER they became big stars, Humphrey Bogart, though he made "The Return of Doctor X" early in his career. This was more akin to Jennifer Anniston getting her start in "Leprechaun," though. And I certainly wouldn't refer to either of those movies as some big budget regurgitated CGI spectacle (or the equivalent of what was made during those respective eras).
I would definitely put Katherine Hepburn in the category you're looking for, though. -
RISE, MY ZOMBIE BRETHREN! SEEK OUT FOR BRAINS!
/just looked at the date...wow, this one is old -
You sound like a jerk of a team leader, actually.
How would I deal with a jerk team leader? I'd quit the team after letting you get defeated a couple of times. -
Quote:And the irony with Hammer is that she's done wonders for the USA Network. Their line up of original shows is rather strong. On one hand I want to hate her for what she did to the SciFi Network, and for losing great shows like Farscape and MST3K (the latter was sadly on its last legs, though), but then she's also fostered an environment that's given us "Burn Notice."Bonnie Hammer (formerly of MINITRUTH) was very open about her low opinion of the Sci-Fi channel and it's programming (She didn't like the genre because she "didn't get it.") when she took it over in 2001. She began her program of systematic destruc... err... "Mainstream Accessibility" with the cancellation of much of the bulk of it's then classic programing and a increasing succession of new project financing/purchasing cuts.
I'm so conflicted. -
Quote:But that's how the business tends to work. Hey, we need an alien design and make up that can be done cheaply and quickly, but it has to look good, and we need it now. He knew his strengths and used them properly instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. He was technically the best but he usually constrained his designs to what he knew what he could to in the time allotted so his designs weren't way out there.
You can apply the same philosophy to just about any business, actually. -

Quote:I've found it to be rare that you can get all those secondary effects to line up properly with a lot of builds. Look at it this way: the biggest boost are going to be to the primary effect (Accuracy, Damage, Recharge, END Reduction) and anything else you can gain is just gravy.I just don't like the idea of part of the Tier 3 being wasted, since the character has nothing that the Disorient bonus would fit into.
My scrapper went with musculature but gained a boost to Defense Debuff. BONUS! This might be something that helps shape my decisions as other slots open up. -
I wonder if we'll ever learn if Moppett Kevin actually does have secret door-opening powers.
-
Quote:I went with Accuracy on my Bubble Defender. Accuracy is not a problem for any of my characters, but this at least provided a small boost to my +Defense efficiency.
Accuracy and Damage I'm not real fond of. There are so many other options and boosts for both that I've not seen a ton of reason to use them. Maybe if I get around to my MMs, I'll dip into the damage one. I've only used Accuracy/Defense for my Cold Defender, but he'd probably do just as well with any of them.
That's my take.
I've gone with Musculature on my scrapper and blasters primarily because:
1) My attack chains already recharge quickly (I think Autofire on my Assault Rifle blaster is down to under 30 seconds).
2) END is not any sort of problem on those builds.
That said, the damage boost is nice, but since blasters and scrappers are primarily slotted for damage, I don't think those characters are getting the most out of the alpha slots.
My MM went with Recharge mostly because all the secondary effects are something I can benefit from (+Heal, Slow, etc.) My pets are already heavily slotted for damage so I just can't see the Musculature set giving all that much out of it. The level shift is far more important. -
I think it depends on what you're looking for and what your secondary is. I would probably eliminate Musculature as a choice for controllers (I think the secondary effects are Defense Debuff and END Mod).
With Grav/FF, I couldn't argue against the Nerve boosts.
Do you have one of those builds constantly low on END? It's something that doesn't happen frequently at level 50 as most IO sets have pretty good END reduction and a number of them boost +REC.
Recharge can frequently help a controller build, though. A lot of their big hard-control AOE powers take forever to recharge, so this certainly can't hurt. -
Quote:I think if you put GOOD science fiction out there, people will go see it. For example, "Inception" made quite a bit of money last summer. Keep in mind that I hold to the axiom that "90% of everything is crap." I would actually bump that up further. There was awful sci-fi in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and I'm sure the 10s won't be any different. The difference is that, largely, enough time has passed that only the good stuff has pretty much survived from those older decades.Sucker Punch's weekend box office didn't even crack $20M, which on an $82M budget is a bad sign, and it lost the #1 slot, by a wide margin, in a surprise upset to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid sequel. At this rate, Mr. Snyder's latest looks like it will join the ranks of geek-centric movies that have wowed the crowds at Comicon and the posters on Aintitcool but have notably failed to achieve mainstream success. At this rate, we should ask ourselves the hard question of whether sci-fi is on an irreversible downward curve toward a trough like there was in the 60s, where good big-budget science fiction films were few and far between (e.g. Fantastic Voyage, 2001).
I have not seen "Sucker Punch" as of yet, and after reading through this thread I'm pretty sure I won't until it hits home video. It seems there are a lot of similar comments that this thread could almost replace "Sucker Punch" with "Transformers 2," the latter of which was garbage and I remember that discussion pretty clearly. I see a lot of the same comments along the lines of "good action scenes, so good story isn't needed," and the like. I beg to differ. Of course, there wasn't as much scrutiny regarding the hypersexualization of transforming robots, but I digress.
