Yes, I love the sound my Swirling Mass of Sand, Blood, and Blades makes as he tears things to pieces. Spin has such the satisfying crunch.

It's even better when Winamp is playing Dream Theater, though.
  2. I would prefer immersive RP, pretty much in character all the time. I have characters that I've put a lot of thought and story into, and it's fun to see how they would interact with other characters. It's not easy to stay in character when not everyone else does. Or someone cracks a great IC joke and I have an OOC reaction. Or I hop between other channels. So I settle for Action RP and Light RP or whatever RP I can get.

But I've always had a lot of trouble with RP, and I'm starting to realize why. I have two kinds of characters. The first kind is my namesake and also my tank/brute pair. They are characters with a well developed back story and they're very static. The way I see it, they've done their maturing and they are who they are. I have a story to tell if someone were to ask, but mostly they sit back and react to the things around them. I get to be a part of your story, but most times I feel like an extra or just the audience. It starts to feel a lot less fulfilling, and I have this desire to share my own story. But I know my story has no room for interaction, as it's just a history I've already written. I don't want to put someone through what I feel as the audience.

I have another character who is completely open ended. I love the character; I love how he interacts with others. But I'm afraid he's too demanding. He's an attention hog, and the story is all about him dealing with his demons, so I actually end up feeling guilty when I try to get people involved.

I'm sitting at two extremes, and I'm not sure what to do.

    ...

I also don't know where this came from or why this topic triggered my wall of text. But I typed it up, so damned if I'm not going to hit the Post Quick Reply now.
  3. Just throwing this out there, if you really hate yourself, you'll try a human form Peacebringer and a stalker.

A bad team with a defender isn't a bad team unless the defender sucks. A bad team with a blaster is still a bad team because the blaster has little potential to force multiply. None of this is groundbreaking. Again, buffs and debuffs are game changers. This doesn't mean blasters are bad, it means buffs and debuffs can effect up to 8 people on a team. We're back to the old "City of Buffs/Debuffs, everything else can sit on the sidelines."

Brutes, tanks, scrappers, EATs, dominators, blasters... whatever. If it's not a rad, kin, or cold, we don't want it.

If that's really your argument, the only way to "fix" it is to have the devs lock out every AT except corruptors, defenders, controllers, or masterminds. And that's not a game I want to play.

The rewards are tied to repeating the same content over and over again.
There are three separate trials, right now. Each of these trials can be run in different ways, for different badges, each with different strategies.

Keep in mind that you can do regular TFs, especially the weekly TF, to progress in these "exclusive rewards."

If that's not enough for you, the devs are adding at least one trial with each new issue. It's simply a matter of development resources right now. You'll have more options in time.

  8. I'm also going to throw out there that Bane Spiders are likely to have tohit buffs, which result in the large chances to hit that the OP mentions.

Then it's not just blasters. This game should be City of Defenders/Corruptors. Everything else is a "wasted" spot on the team.

In truth, though, the more buffs and debuffs you add, the more the blaster's value gets multiplied.
  10. Another update today, which features a new section on "The Unconventional Tank" for all you tanking Blasters/Dominators/Controllers/Whatevers.
  11. The guide has been updated again. There were some minor changes throughout, plus the added section for "The Unconventional Tank."

Fair enough, but keep in mind we are about 300 replies away from the New Tank Powersets of the OP. I don't think the thread can be salvaged.

Large/Oversized enemies, ranged mobs that don't enter melee, Friendly Fire KB, and stuff simply being dead before you can use more than one AoE are all factors that make spin not nearly as effective as it would be in the AE or even in a solo mission.

Spin is amazing, but you rarely get the chance on a fast moving team to just stand there saturated in mobs and Spin > Spin > Spin.
These are mostly reasons why I have Shockwave. I can put the enemies where I want them.

Stuff being dead before I can use one AoE is fine, because Spin recharges fast enough that it's ready for the next spawn. Fire Sword Circle, on my tank for example, is not always so.

On a fast moving team, I just have to be faster, or chose my own path. In my experience, the fastest teams are eight people soloing together. Raids as well seem to go quicker and easier when people split into small teams of 4-6. Occasionally I get a really good duo partner.

Also, Aett hasn't even brought Defiance into the equation either. Pretty sure that's a significant damage buff, considering the blaster's high base damage.

Or as mentioned above, a teleporting foe could be teleported right back, unless he had the forethought to pop a sturdy inspiration.
This is what I've been talking about, the PvP metagame. One thing gets popular because it works, but then a counter is found and that becomes the popular thing until people stop doing the first thing. Or find a new way to do the first thing that's not countered by the second thing. Third and fourth and fifth things come into play, even if the game itself isn't changing, the tactics still do. That's what makes it fun.

    So show me proof.
Anyone claiming how amazing Claws is on a brute is saying that because of how stupid good Spin is.

Spin isn't going to help on a Pylon time.
  19. Ok, but what effect does that have on a character you want to respec now?

Ok, now you're even misquoting. We were talking about base HP, for one, and further, a Kheldian that "keeps its HP there as long as it wants" is not a damage dealer.

You don't count High Pain Tolerance when comparing Scrappers to Tanks, unless you're only talking about Willpower versions of each. Base HP to base HP, Blasters are not the worst of damage dealing ATs. It's that simple.

And of course a Corruptor's primary purpose on a team is to deal damage. It's primary powers are damage and it's inherent is a way to deal more damage.

You're really starting to fall all over yourself, here. It's just making things worse.

Fair enough. How about some anecdotal, personal experience.

I want a game with PvP. It's one of the things that makes a game challenging, because let's face it, the AI is only difficult for so long. Lambda was impossible, then a breeze two weeks later. Keyes was the same. PvP is always new, always changing and always challenging, because players adapt.

It's gone so far that I need a new game. I've tried a pretty popular F2P one that didn't turn out so good. Now I'm on to a new one (I'll be detailing that experience in my blog). This time it's a subscription game, and I've only got room in the budget for one at a time. I'm paid up here till November, and the same with my new game. Come December, I'm leaving one of the two games.

If PvP were better here, this wouldn't even be a question as I wouldn't have had to look outside the City.
  24. 1. lolpvp.

    2. Suggestion forums thataway.

    3. lolpvp.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to PvP were the system not broken as all hell. I just don't see any changes coming. Ever.
