I thought if you changed back to hero you could still keep your Patron powers as long as you didn't respec.

Keep in mind that the -17% tohit debuff can be resisted by higher level enemies, and particularly AVs.

Against an even con AV, it works out to just over -2% tohit.

    SD/ELEC tank?

SD/elec is pretty common for a tank.

Right now, I still charge 800 million inf per build I make for people.

Of course, if you post your own build, I'll help optimize it at no charge.

Can we make shield charge so it becomes a PBAoE ally recharge buff? No. Cottage rule.

Other T9 abilities make defeat less likely. Mine make defeat irrelevant.
  8. I'd like to think it's a balancing point in the set. The bonuses for having four of the set are ridiculously good, so to compensate the power itself has to be underslotted.

An easy fix is adding one more slot to your power and putting in a Crushing Impact Acc/Dmg/End.
  9. Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm happy to hear the guide was entertaining as well as informative.

    - Winter's Gift slow resist. For what I'd hope would be obvious reasons, though you may want this elsewhere. (And obviously - wait, ski, get it free over the holidays instead of at market prices.)
    - Build up proc. Why not. *shrug* Of course, we're khelds, a "slot I'm not doing anything better with" is a luxury.

When looking for cheap sets, don't forget that pretty much every... single... attack has a slow component. And go name one expensive Slow set. Now, honestly, you'll end up grabbing the Acc/End most likely, or possibly a triple (which will have a touch of slow,) but in another "if you have the slots" (and if you want something to go along with neg. damage,) don't forget the Chance for Smashing proc. (Which, frankly, *is* probably the most expensive of any Slow set piece.)

Last bit, I always try to add some range to the Nova cone in either a PB or WS nova, just so its range is closer to that of the other attacks. I don't *want* to duck in and out for one attack.
These are all very good points. Do you guys mind if I add this stuff into the guide with my own wording?

  10. Don't forget about all the colors you could do. With blue hues you could be Misty or Steamy Ion. With tan colors it could be Sandy Ion. Green turns you into a Toxic Ion.

But that's just keeping with your Ion theme. Basically, don't limit yourself to Darkity darkness.

Except that tohit and defense are bounded by a concrete formula. You can only reduce the incoming damage to 10% with any combination of defense and tohit.

-Damage, however, can reduce incoming damage past what is reduced by your resistances.

The only time this will matter, though, is when you already have 90% resistance to something and layer the -DMG on top.
  12. Like Local Man, I am a reasonably casual gamer who is plagued by the need to work a full time job and support a family. I have two decently IO'd characters, the first being my Dark Armor tank, which was done mostly on blood, sweat, and merits. Lots of merits. Then there's my 'shade. He has what I consider a decent set of IOs, but clearly not purpled. His IOing was made possible because someone paid for a mids build (I'm not kidding here, I got a ridiculous sum of infamy just to make a bots/FF build, of all things). I lost a bit to transfer it blueside, and I was surprised to find out how few LotG's it took to consume my entire budget.

I spend all my time in SG mode to earn as much prestige as possible for the RPSG I'm involved in. I have a bit of alt-itis and run a subgroup of the SG Wednesday nights. These things make it very hard to actually earn influence, but I'm happy knowing the SG is better for it.

So with that, allow me to introduce Defying the Curse.

So... the beginning. Yes, it starts about a month ago. I'm not exactly sure which day it was, but I know it was a Thursday. I used to shoot pool or play a few rounds of poker with my friends every Thursday after work. I say "used to" because as it turns out, those friends moonlighted as demonic cultists. On that particular Thursday, they informed me of their involvement with the Circle of Thorns and invited me to join. I turned it down and joked "If nothing else, this explains your frequent "I have to be at church that night" excuses."

Perhaps that was not the wisest move on my part. Or perhaps the invitation was only a formality. Or maybe still, they should have mentioned that "Now that you know about us, we can't let you live if you're not going to join." I heard one of them babbling something just before my head started to hurt like I had a train running through it. I slipped in and out of consciousness for a while. Partial memories of conversation in languages I didn't understand. I was in a van, then in a park, and then finally tied down to a stone altar in a cave.

If you want the whole story, go here. Basically, the Thorns try possessing a human with both a demon and a Nictus in the hopes of being able to have a Nictus warrior under their control. Poor Tevan somehow regains control of his body, but is haunted by "the Voice" in his head telling him to fight and to drain essence. He has chosen the high road, to not give in to the madness... to Defy the Curse.

I do have another costume for him, which he wears when trying to fit in with the mystic crowd. As you can see, he needs more purple.

I can't seem to find it mentioned on the wiki, but I have every confidence that the "one-shot" code does in fact prevent any single hit from killing your character if he is at full HP, even one with separate ticks. The only exception is powers that apply a DoT component, of which the Rikti towers are.

Unless you have combat logs to prove you were at full hitpoints when the Rikti sword "one-shotted" you, then I believe you are either mistaken or lying.

If you got hit by even a rikti monkey's swipe just after or even any time before the sword does its damage, the one shot code will not save you.

    Psssh.

I jumped into the bowl and grabbed U'kon's aggro before the raid leader said it was time to go after him. The Raid Leader yell at me for jumping the gun and I had to hold his aggro for a long damn time, while arguing in global that the Raidwipe couldn't be my fault because the GM was still trying to hit me and only me.

Somebody just didn't call out a bomb. That's not my fault.

I have to warn you, however, that I've never been particularly good with brutes (or scrappers for that matter). Regardless, I will do my best to optimize the build. Would you say that you're dead set on keeping the S/L softcap? Just so I have an idea how far to go with it.

Actually, how about we take it to PMs to avoid further threadjack. I'll send you my revisions (if I have any) when I get some time tomorrow.

Warshades are mislabeled "epic" in City of Heroes. Epic, here, does not mean "better than everything else." It means "tied into lore." Also, the one shotting never happens. The void attacks are resistable and don't even hurt that much to begin with anymore.

Aside from that, yes, they are worth it. My warshade was the most fun character I've ever played.

Please, give my Tri-Form Warshade guide a read. It'll certainly help out if you decide to roll one.

My warshade has such a recharge intensive build that Eye of the Magus is up every 8 minutes. It is way too convenient.

I'm glad this is what you got out of it. The warshade is a beast of inertia. Once moving at full speed, it takes one hell of a wall to stop it. It'll take a while to build back up, but there is always the restart button found in Stygian Return.

You did just remind me of a post I made a while ago, describing what I called "mirelock." It's applicable, so I'll quote it here.

    Quote:
Originally Posted by Dechs Kaison View Post
In my absolutely non-professional medical opinion, "scrapperlock" can be viewed as an illness. It is dangerous and highly contagious. The most noticeable symptom is of course the behavioral trend to attack the largest group of anything that poses a threat. Other common symptoms include impatience, hyperactivity, and disregard for self as well as teammates. In the most extreme cases, those with scrapperlock can go deaf and mute. All of these symptoms stem from the same root cause, which is the delusions of immortality that scrapperlock creates.

Even though a player is diagnosed with chronic scrapperlock, he is often able to function normally within a team. The player will always experience frequent minor flare ups, and may notice in time to return to his group. Commonly, however, full scrapperlock will take hold, and the player will be lost to the illness until such time as the armies of darkness have been vanquished in their entirety.

Scrapperlock, however, is a lesser affliction of the rare "mirelock." The added danger of mirelock is the rapid pace at which it advances to the chronic stage. This is often too soon for the illness to be diagnosed and treated properly. Further, once mirelock has developed, there is very little that can be done to cure it. This is because mirelock is more than a simple illness. It is an addiction. Mirelock causes the delusions of immortality, but is fed by the presence of foes. The more foes present, the greater these delusions become. The greater these delusions become, the stronger the illness and thus an increased number of foes, et cetera, ad infinitum.

A typical case of mirelock exhibits all the symptoms of scrapperlock, but each of these symptoms is exaggerated. Where a scrapperlocking player may find himself ahead of the team, the mirelocking player needs to be ahead of the team. A mirelocking player will find his power directly proportional to the number of foes around him, so where a scrapperlocking player will finish a group off before moving on, a mirelocking player will race ahead and let the stragglers catch up to him. Impatience and hyperactivity are worse in the mirelock case because of powers operating on a timer. The deaf/mute symptom is also more common with mirelock for this reason as well. The disregard for self is further inflamed because of the presence of an offensive self reviving ability. A mirelocking individual must be deep within enemy ranks so that in the event of a defeat, fuel will exist for the fire.

In conclusion, this is a very serious illness with potential ramifications on an extremely large scale. If a cure exists, it has been elusive. I urge this community to help me find a cure for mirelock. If we are to find a cure, we must know more about the disease. This will require research, and countless volunteers to experiment. Please, for the sake of the community, roll a warshade. Learn about mirelock.
  20. You could always make use of the dual builds feature and see which one plays better. It's a lot more expensive because you'd essentially have to build him again from scratch, but the option is there.

Those were all examples of things that I've done. Considering the vast number of Master TF's (multiple instances of all four available to heroes, mind you), all of which were PuGs, I've successfully lead with my tank, I'd say I know what I'm talking about when it comes to "skilled" tanking.

Super Strength has Hand Clap, KO Blow, and Footstomp to control with reliably. The other attacks in this set have less reliable knockdown.

Electric Melee and War Mace have disorient and knockdown in AoE varieties.

Ice Melee has -recharge, AoE knockdown, AoE sleep, and a hold.

Axe has knockdown and knockup in quantity.

Energy melee has stackable stuns and some AoE stun.

Dual Blades has AoE knockdown as well as tohit debuffs.

Energy Mastery has the cone knockdown.

Ice Mastery has -recharge in heaps.

Fire melee and Pyre mastery are the only sets without extra mitigation, which is part of their design.
