My buddy and I usually run as a duo and he is going to make a spines scrapper, he is thinking to go either dark or elec armor. I'm trying to decide what type of defender to make to help him (and me) level the fastest. I suppose it doesn't have to be a defender, a corr, troller or even dom would work depending on what you think.
Thanks in advance for any help/ideas. -
No, his secondary is ice, but my brute does so much damage it doesn't really matter what what he does. I will say his holds do come in handy for runners or managing a few mobs that I don't taunt. But really in the end its build up, thunder strike, Shield charge, lightning rod, thunder strike before cleaning up anything left over and moving to the next mob. He knows his role is to turn my into a killing machine with his buffs and heals, and my role is to keep mobs off of him so he can do his job.

So my friend and I were playing last night and trying to decide on our next duo. We're currently running an empathy defender with my elec/shield brute. We are currently lvl 43 and all but unstoppable. Just a great team overall.
That said, I think we're going to switch roles where he will become the melee character and I take up the support. He would really like to try a tank, but we're not sure what AT would dish out enough damage for a duo AND have enough defense to be viable in a duo. He isn't opposed to going brute either.
As for support, I was looking at maybe going something like Rad for its debuffs or Kin for its speed buffs. But I'm pretty open to any ideas.
Also, would going Thermal with its shields make a scrapper more in line with a brute in defense?
Thanks a ton for any advice/guidance I can get. -
The one big surprise that I've seen is a Warshade. I never considered it even for a teaming AT since I've read/heard about how tough they are to level period. Sounds like I might have to give them a shot.
I'm really enjoying hearing everyone's opinion. However I have to disagree with people say that pretty much every AT in the game can solo well. There are some pure support primaries and secondaries that just don't lend themselves to playing solo. Empathy comes to mind, the best powers in that set are for others, not you. -
I've run several characters to 50, some solo, others on teams. My solo characters tend to be scrappers or brutes so I got to wondering what other ATs are effective solo'ers.
After talking with some friends we came up with a few like a fire/kin (or rad) troller, dark/dark defenders came up as well. But I'm sure there are others out there so I'm wondering what everyone else thinks.
If you could, would you please explain why you pick the AT you do.
Thanks in advance! -
Quote:There is no panic as of yet Star, so no need to cool down. I was just wondering what I was missing and if I was doing something wrong, which I found I was in fact doing something VERY wrong. Since switching I've found the set to be better. I understand that at lvl 12 I can't judge the set, but other scrappers and brutes I've played were dishing out far more damage at a similar level and given that I haven't seen a ton of complaints about this set, I knew it must be me, not the power set.Aside from missing the best powers in the set, you're level 12. Complaining at level 12 is like saying the movie sucks while the previews are playing. Calm down, take a breath, and enjoy a set that kicks some serious ***.
Someone earlier said something about the set having a "heavy hitter" but when I check future powers there isn't anything that does extreme damage. is this due to PS making it extreme damage? -
I'll get out of RT and into Power Siphon and see how it works out.
Thanks for the heads up -
I rolled my first KM scrapper (actually only my 2nd scrapper in almost 5 years so I'm by no means an expert) and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong with this set so far. The reason I think this is because of my total lack luster damage, which becomes very evident when I play with other scrappers. Does the KM set blossom later and start to shine, or is it always a mid level damage character?
I'm on my mac at work so I can't post my build, but here is a quick run down of my powers at lvl 12:
Quick strike (3 slotted)
Body blow (3 slotted)
Smashing Blow (3 slotted)
Repulsing Torrent (Just got it, and very unimpressed thus far)
WP powers:
High Pain Tolerance (2 slotted)
Mind Over Body (2 slotted)
Fast Healing (2 slotted)
Fitness:

One of my favorite characters was a fire/fire tanker. It was just flat out fun to play, but from a tanker point of view, it was pretty squishy. Given that a tanker with this build is squishy, I'm wondering if that would make a scrapper even more so.

Something that I've wondered for a little while now but have never found an answer is about setting up the challenges before each Ouro mission arch. When you set the challenges before you start does that have any affect on how much xp/inf or reward merits you get for completing it?
If it does, how so?
Thanks in advance. -
Thanks Psy, so do you skip a travel power because you have Ninja Run? If so, how is that compared to SS?
Thanks a lot, this build helps me a ton to see where things fit. -
If possible could someone post a build for this. I've searched but have yet to find an actual build. I've never played a Storm so I'm not sure what powers are worth taking or how they're slotted. Also, as an MM I've usually ventured away from taking attacks as I don't want to attract aggro so I'm not sure what attacks to take from the primary.
Thanks in advance for any advice. -
So if I'm understanding this, everyone is saying that primary is up to me, everything rocks, but WP seems to be the most newbie (survivable) secondary?
Kinda thinking about a MA or Katana. Does one of these do significantly more damage than the other? -
Quote:Wow, that sounds pretty crazy for Storms! Not to mention fun. At this point, I'm torn between dark and storm. Pain is in the running but I can't seem to decideStorm is excellent, but it uses a lot of knockback in its powers. So don't be the guy who spams Gale to send things flying into another spawn while your minions chase after it and thus aggro the second spawn, learn to use Hurricane to edge-herd enemies into a kill zone (generally where Freezing Rain is doing its thing) rather than running blindly into the middle of the spawn and sending them flying and know when and where to drop Tornado so it works as a Stun and damage power without scattering things to the 4 winds (in small confined spaces it is gold).
Things like hovering above enemies and using Gale from straight above to turn the knockback into knockdown, using Hurricane & TP to TP behind a spawn (without aggroing a second spawn) and pushing them back towards your demons and the Freezing Rain kill zone, using O2 Boost on any alpha takers who are getting hit by Sapping attacks and combining the -knockback from Electric Fences with Tornado are all excellent ways to leverage Storms strengths without too much scatter or driving the meleers insane. This kinda stinks.
Thanks again for the help/advice. -
Thanks for the great info, you've given me a lot to think about today while I'm at work when I'm supposed to be working
.
One thing about Storm, people keep saying that you need to learn how to us it to be good with it. What do they mean by this? Nobody has been specific (at least what I've seen). -
Kinda sounds like Dark is a good all around secondary for Demons. I think I would rather be debuffing for my minions, it at least feels like I'm actually attacking.
-
I'm not quite sure what goes well with the demons so if anyone that has played with this primary can help me, I would appreciate it. Most of my time will be spent solo, or with my friend (occasionally on bigger team, but rare). Was looking at Thermal, but FF also seemed interesting. Any help would be fantastic.
Thanks in advance. -
But I can't seem to decided on what type to be. I haven't played a scrapper since I4 or so. Its been a VERY long time and I just feel the urge to go back, but I'd rather not build a lemon. I've read quite a few posts here but I'm still not quite sure what would be the most survivable solo scrapper. If I could get some advice I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance. -
So I'm trying to respec my character and I keep getting a failed message. I searched the forums and found nothing. Has anyone else encountered this or know why it happens? Its really getting irritating. I'm respecing at Studio 55 in Imperial City.
Thanks -
I'm having a hard time defending Scrappers to my Brute friend and was hoping people here could help me out. I struggle because many of his arguments are pretty valid. The first thing is defense. From what I've read (and what he tells me) a Brute ends up with higher resistance than Scrappers. This makes Brutes far more durable than a Scrapper.
The next area is in damage. My friend argues that while Scrappers at early levels do out damage Brutes because of the need to rest health and stamina, at later levels when everyone has fitness and other stamina boosting powers, downtime is greatly reduced thus making fury loss more minimal. Yes Scrappers do get Crits, but they're inconsistent and unreliable, where as Fury, once it is at X% you know your damage.
So can someone help me to argue against this.
Thanks in advance. -
This was exactly what I was looking for. Reading and looking through things, it really seems to me that Brutes are better than Scrappers. They get better defense, which is huge, and if the numbers stated in this thread are correct (and I assume they are because I've seen them other places) its almost 25% better.
Next up would be damage. Sure Scrappers get crits, but they're inconsistent. Start an attack and you MIGHT get a crit. A brute needs to build up fury, but it really doesn't take much especially at later levels when mobs get bigger. Scrappers may have the potential to dish out high damage, but fury makes sure a brute dishes out high damage. And as someone stated, if you get a kin (or even an empath) on your team, damage output is just silly.
I've got a soft spot for scrappers (I'm a beta tester that has played scrappers for a long time) but I just can't see where scrappers are better than brutes. -
Quote:OP here, thanks for the advice.
I'm having a blast One problem I've had with the game so far is that early levels are really boring, with combat mostly spent waiting for your most powerful attack to slowly recharge while pinging away at the enemy with a rather weak second attack and brawl.
That is a problem that many of us had early on, but have now gotten past thanks to Vet rewards. I know that doesn't help you, but trust me when I tell you, we have all ben through that and yes, it can be a little slow. But the great thing about CoH is the fact that you level rather quickly and gain new powers quickly as well. You'll be cycling an attack chain before you know it and really be rockin and rollin. -
No I don't much if any PvP so the +perception doesn't really do much for me. What does the Gaussian set give you that makes it worth taking?
-
I'm trying to decide if this is a power worth taking given the +acc Archers already get. Right now I'm lvl 18 and with 1 acc DO I rarely miss. So I'm trying to decide if this is a power worth taking or if I should just skip it and spend the power selection on something else.
