  1. Actually, it's easier to say which servers I don't play on. I have at lease one toon on each of the English-language serves save for Pinnacle and Protector.

I agree with you, those types of players, both in arena and PvP areas, can leave a bad taste in one's mouth for PvP. I think one of the worst was when I was in RV trying to do a few things, and I had one villian toon actually camping at the mouth of the hero's entrance to the zone. He seemed to relish being a turd that night.

That's not to say I hate RV, as I've had fun with a full team once, taking care of all the signature villians for fun and badges.

And nowadays, when I go looking for badges in the PvP zones, I usually in early in the morning, when no one else should be around, and usually at the maximum level or more.
  2. Okay, I haven't seen this other question I have clarified, so I'll ask it. Regarding the 400 Paragon Points (PP) we current subscribers get each billing period after July 1st. It says 'every full billing period after July 1st'. My billing cycle is set for the 30th of each month. So what happenes, do I get 400 PP for the July cycle, awarded on July 30th, or do I not get any until August 30th? Am I going to have to let my account lapse for 24 hours - something I'd prefer NOT to do - in order to start gaining those 400 PP right off the bat?
  3. You're right Braije, those other MMOs handle PvP radically differently. I may have misread what you and others wanted - that is, open-world PvP instead of confinement to certain areas.

Now, I have had to deal with PvP in here, and was not impressed with the people I encountered, and this was before the 'big nerf' that many PvPers were complaining about. Why didn't I give it another try after that 'big nerf'? Ever heard the expression "One bitten, twice Shy."? I decided to try PvP one evening, and got offered a spot in a 2-on-2 event. When we zoned in, my partner suddenly went AFK and the other team double-teamed me again and again. When we left, I got another tell from my 'partner', asking if I wanted to go again. I told him that I felt I had been set up and that wasn't nice - and not only that, if it had been a new player, it might have caused him or her to decide to leave the game. (Please note that I wasn't rude, rather curt but polite, in my response to him.)

He laughed at me and said that my strategy sucked, which is why I was killed over and over again. Quite frankly, that left a sour taste in my mouth as far as hard-core PvPers in this game.

The other scenario you mentioned, regarding badgers, I've also experienced. I took my first toon, Grey Whisper, into Siren's Call in order to try and obtain the 4 exploration badges there. Now, I was red-side (I bought COV on sale) so a couple of those badges were well into enemy territory for me - especially the Crooked Politician badge. Using Vidiot Maps and Paragonwiki, I went around and collected the other three badges, but that one was giving me trouble. I jumped in to the spot where it was, hoping to just pick it up and then get out of there, but found a number of hero toons droppping attacks on me, even though I was asking for a little help just getting the badge. Upon waking up at the hospital, one player teamed up with me and stood right at the spot of the badge, telling me to open up the minimap to see where he was and to zone in on him. Even with that, as I jumped in again, I was once again bombarded with attacks, but was able to land on the badge marker just as I died.

I woke up in the hospital to see my teammate chew out those other players in Broadcast with "I was just trying to help her get the badge. I hope she got it." (All but one of my toons is female.) I contacted him, thanked him for helping me get that last badge, and then headed out of the zone. After that, the only time I've spent in a PvP zone has been to gain the time-spent-in-zone or day-job badges - oh, and to launch the Warburg rocket to to see it done once.

Also, I never intended to claim that your (PvP gamer) subscription was any less than another (non-PvP gamer) subscription. I'm sorry if I gave that impression.
  4. I would assume that any of those extra slot tokens already used to open up an extra character slot - for instance, I have 13 toons on Champion - would still be available to me after COH:Freedom goes live. Am I correct in that?
  5. Actually, I've always liked the vet badges, because it gave me a chance to see how long a player has been around. It also gives me a chance to see if the player I'm with is relatively new to the game, or has been around a long time and is either someone who never bothered to really understand the game or is acting like an imbacile ingame in order to grief others.

(Seriously, I have come across some 3-month vet players who are really on the ball when it comes to this game, and I have met 18-month vet players who don't have a single clue.)

So I'd like to keep the vet badges in some form or other.
  6. As someone who is very much against PvP, I'm worried about pumping new life into PvP just in time for Freedom and a horde of PvP griefers. I've heard horror stories from my RL friends about their experiences in other MMOs with such. However, as long as you do keep it to the arena then I'd be okay with that.

Quite frankly, if you want new life in PvP, then other aspects of this game, which only a portion of the player base utilizes (like bases) should also be looked at. The new coming model is meant for everyone, not just some of us.

Also, vindizzLe, Braije, I have to say that your combined comments here are really not helping the 'PvP love plz' cause.
  7. Also, it was mentioned on the ustream chat yesterday that there would be a discount if you took the entire pack then just ala cart.
  8. Dyne_, maybe you can have her go villain or rouge, saying that she's NOT happy with what was done to her park. (Love the toon and concept.)
  9. With the steampunk booster, as well as the tonnes of new costume pieces over the past couple of years, having only 5 costume slots seems like a rather low number. I know, I know, not everyone will want or even need more then 5 costume slots. But what about those of us who do want extra outfit options for our toons - i.e. 'formal' (think Wolverine and his white dinner jacket ensamble), 'street', 'clubbing', 'secret ID', etc.

Just an idea from an altaholic who was sold on the game on the costume creator alone - and this was five years ago, when there were a lot less options and a lot less customization available.
  10. Actually, Bad Influence, I've had problems in the warehouse... and I am a tank! The problem is similar to the problem I have in the Circle of Thorns temple with those stupid wall torches that can stop you in your tracks. In the warehouse there are too many crates, weapon racks, etc. that are solid polygons that can block your way as you try to run quickly through the hallways. (And what's worse, unlike in the old warehouse maps, there are similar 'polygon traps' in the ceiling when you jump up to try and escape those traps, unlike the old warehouse maps with plenty of room to jump.)
  11. I was in the middle of a similar discussion on the Liberty Badges channel the other night. One person was trying to claim that purples dropped easily, that he'd get 3-4 a month or so, while another contended that they dropped very infrequently. I stepped in and pointed out how I have been playing this game for nearly 5 years, and only saw my first purple recipe drop for me about a couple months back - which I immediately crafted and sold on the market for nearly 125M inf.

I've gotten quite a few threads tables the past few days. I've also gotten quite a few of the common and uncommon tables, but very rarely did I get the rare or very rare table. All-American Teen is a pure melee tanker, with only three range powers available to her in these trials. The problem for melee types, and not just in these trials, is that if we can't get close enough to the target, then we can't do anything. And when you have too many toons surrounding a target, eventually someone get's shut out from the close range.

I think that there are enough people (both here on the forums and in the game) making noise about this that gives me the impression that there is something wrong with it.
  12. Another reason I think it'll never happen is that I feel some devs are still dreaming of giant 'capture the flag' base raids that they'd still love to see one day. If you make bases co-op zones, you destroy that dream. (The other reason I believe nothing is being done on bases is because many SGs/VGs arn't gearing up for base raids the way the devs wanted. Because of that, the thinking is "Why bother.")

    Ancient Japan!

Too late, I already have one ninja lady running around (Okay, she's not based on feudal or even mystical Japan, but on the Japan/China mashup Rokugan from the RPG L5R.)
  14. I entered the PCGamer one. The only problem is that they didn't say what exact information they needed. My only worry is that I'm in Canada, and most contests that operate outside of Canada disqualify Canadians from entering. (Canadian contests require a skill-testing question, even if the contest is from another country. It's a decade-old rule that I don't even know why it was put into place. I've always asked why this happens, and one of the few replies I got back was that there were too many regulations thrown up against these contest organizers, so it was easier to just exclude Canadians.)

Also, I know that at first I was one of those people who were against basic items, saying that I wanted to play The Sims I'd go play The Sims. However, I do want to see at least some basic stuff that we can use to make our bases look a little more than some mad scientist lab or a mideavel dungeon playpen.

Thanks for the encouragement there guys. Thing is, I'm a casual player with 70 toons total. And I have to sheepishly admit that after thinking it trough, I don't have the patience needed to be stacking and placing every single piece needed to build these masterpieces or anything reletively close.

And no offense to those of you who have built these visions of beauty the hard way, but I still think that if we had better basic building blocks we'd have a lot more people who'd be willing to take a swing at base building.

I guess in the end I don't like the idea of immense frustration in a game I play to relax from my crummy RL.

    Conference Room

Those are both great examples of what can be done to make a spectacular room. But I also have to say that I look at both of these and cry. Why? Because I know that I'll never be able to build anything near that. Not because I'm not patient or creative enough. No, because I know I'll nver generate enough prestige in order to be able to purchase everything needed to build any of this - especially in a casual SG that effectively consists of my 12 alts, and not much else.

I'm wondering if the devs are refusing to make things easier for us basebuilders not because it's more complex when writing the code, but because they would then have to admit that they were wrong on what they thought bases would be used for.
  18. Shoot, I hope I can get home in time that night. (I'm going to be out late, heading up by the airport to pick up my pre-reg pack for the convention I'm at that weekend - which is why I won't be able to be with you guys on Freedom Friday night. )

I concur. Memorial Day Weekend is our local anime convention, Anime North. There are quite a few of these collectors who come to the convention with their dolls - many in costume, with their doll in an identical costume. It is to the point that there is a mini-convention within the convention called 'Doll North', complete with miniature versions of the weekend badge for the dolls.

(I wish I was making this up, but I couldn't if I tried.)

I got the okay directly to say this, by the way....I was talking to Beastyle post-Coffee Chat yesterday morning/afternoon and I asked him pretty much point-blank about this very issue. Now, he is bound as is TheNet from saying anything about bases, but please be assured they are reading the threads here a lot and Beastyle himself has made some overtures to speak on your behalf. Don't ask me how this played out, because that's all the detail I got.

But they are listening, even if they can't answer you. I wouldn't even post this if it wasn't true, and several people, including Arbiter Fabulous were there to see the exchange with me asking about this. I did ask also about using existing art assets to include into the base system, and I was told this was noted down and would be enquired about.

I know this isn't a lot for you, but they haven't abandoned you, I swear. They've even been going to bases on tours and seeing your work.

    Don't give up hope, guys.

    S.
Actually, I was glad to talk with a couple of players in chat right after the coffee chat yesterday, and even more glad that we seemed to be on the same wavelength regarding bases.

Now, as to base tours, that's great, but what about those of us, like me, who have given up on ever finishing their bases? The biggest issue is the base item crash limit. When you want to make a simple kitchenette for your base (let's face it, that tea you see everyone holding has to come from somewhere ) it takes about 5-6 items to make the fridge, another half-dozen to make a range, and then another few items...well, you get the picture. (The worst thing to deal with is needing 32 desks/counters per room square per floor if you want multiple floors. Yes, you could use the linolium floor, but it's transparent from below - not something I'd want in my SG's sorority house.)

The other problem is that everything costs a lot of prestige, which is doled out by the thimble-full - which doesn't hurt large SGs with lots of active players, but it's the kiss of death to the design ideas of small SGs - especially those made by a single player, like myself, for 12 of their alts.

I really would like to see some help and love here. My worry for years has been that this is yet another part of the game that the devs had an idea of how it should work, saw that it was being used differently, tried to fix/change it, and then eventually gave up and are only giving lip service to it every once in a while.
  21. I have to concur. Mind you, after we finished up in St. Martel, the league pretty much broke up. So I took my (now) level 12 alt back to Port Oakes, leveled her up, kitted her out, and then went to Pocket D to have some fun.

Friday night will be the best fun for me, as my 50 is on Liberty.

Oh, and I have to say, the lag-fest wasn't as bad on Justice as on Virtue the night before - but that may be because I was doing this one redside.
  22. Well, I have to say, because of the lag, last night was the first time I had seen one of the trams standing still EVER! Also, at one point I just had to chuckle seeing my toon, after hitting the hospital, sliding along the floor like she was still dead. Oh, one thing I wasn't really happy about was having to wait upwards of a full minute everytime I headed to the hospital before I could leave the rez tube.

I'll pop in to see how things are on Justice tonight in about 20 minutes. But I'm really waiting for Friday night so I can get Teen in on the fun.

    Union Costumes!

Some really cool costumes. Kid Snowflake looks like something straight out of a manga or anime - so kawaii.

I might roll up a toon on Union, but she'd be toon no. 69 for me. (This merger isn't going to be good for us altaholics. )
  24. Okay, thanks for the reply. I'll see if I can get in for a couple of hours at least inbetween laundry and such.
