  1. And here I thought it was just my dad's laptop rendering things in an odd way (no, I don't know how that would have worked). Glad I'm not the only one seeing this, I thought I was losing it.
  2. 35 months + the original box + CoV + new video card a couple years back + extra gig of memory + extra $5 from associated "upgrade" packages that include a free month (Valkyrie pack, etc) ~= $775. (This doesn't include GR which I'm not preordering but will get, and I may upgrade my card again for Ultra Mode.)

Ouch. That's about 15-16 normal games. But I've gotten more playtime out of this one. Assume 40 hours per game, that's 600 hours of gameplay from 15 standard games. I think I spent more than that leveling my first character, and that's not even taking alts into account.

So how much have you sunk?
  3. Does this mean that Lord Recluse is our savior?
  4. Only if it happens frequently enough that it brings the average run time down that the devs determine through data mining. So what I'm saying is yes, you have a point, but you're not necessarily right.

No answer for this? At this point it seems to be happening randomly when I start up the game (the problem is visible at the login screen and on all text thereafter). Is this a sign of impending graphics card failure or what?

Perhaps some kind of reward...like, I don't know, I'm just brainstorming here, an opportunity to respec your character upon completion. Or maybe a badge and some merits. At least so we have some reason to actually do a respec.
  8. Willpower, maybe? Mind Over Body + Indomitable Will approximately reproduces Wolf Spider Armor (albeit with a little extra protection). Drop IW if you don't want mez protection for an Lt.
  9. It would be nice to have an animation expressing actual rage to go with Rage, as opposed to the "repress your anger until you start yelling at your children in 15 years" animation we have now.

Retracting my previous post. Starting up the game again I am faced with the same problem. Restarting the game (this time without verifying) fixes it, but my framerate is suffering. Still haven't changed any graphical settings. What's going on here?

    Smeared Text

I just had this happen now. Looked familiar so I went looking on the forum and remembered this thread. Everything was fine as recently as last night, and I haven't changed anything with my graphics card or monitor in that period of time. Verifying my game files seems to have fixed the problem.
  12. Trying to softcap defense, from the looks of it. To be honest, I've looked at the build and can't think of where else I would put those extra 2 slots, but it still feels like an enormous waste to me, especially since you're fine without those set bonuses. And the HamiOs...I can't even imagine why those are there.
  13. I didn't see anybody else mention this -- why do you have the Knockback Protection IOs slotted? Active Defense provides you all the KB protection and resistance you'll ever need. You can get an extra 2 slots from that. And why the HamiOs in Active Defense? Two generic Recharge IOs would work just as well (better, in fact) and would run a lot cheaper.
  14. All of the above, and be liberal in your use of inspirations. It sounds obvious but a lot of people forget they're even there. I developed a set of macros for my tray that allows me to automate conversion of other inspirations to blues. I mainly use them on endurance-heavy toons (my War Mace/Shield Brute was what drove me to create it), but they can also be handy in the earlier levels when you don't have quite as much endurance reduction and recovery available to you.

Put this in a text file called end.txt in your root CoH folder:
    Code:
    $$macro T1 "insp_combine "Insight" "Catch a Breath"$$insp_combine "Enrage" "Catch a Breath"$$insp_combine "Luck" "Catch a Breath"$$insp_combine "Respite" "Catch a Breath"$$insp_combine "Sturdy" "Catch a Breath""
    $$macro T2 "insp_combine "Keen Insight" "Take a Breather"$$insp_combine "Focused Rage" "Take a Breather"$$insp_combine "Good Luck" "Take a Breather"$$insp_combine "Dramatic Improvement" "Take a Breather"$$insp_combine "Rugged" "Take a Breather""
$$macro T3 "insp_combine "Uncanny Insight" "Second Wind"$$insp_combine "Righteous Rage" "Second Wind"$$insp_combine "Phenomenal Luck" "Second Wind"$$insp_combine "Resurgence" "Second Wind"$$insp_combine "Robust" "Second Wind""
    $$macro END "insp_exec_name "Catch a Breath"$$insp_exec_name "Take a Breather"$$insp_exec_name "Second Wind""
Ingame, type (where PATH_TO_COH_FOLDER is the path to your CoH folder; may vary):
    Code:
    \bindloadfilesilent "PATH_TO_COH_FOLDER/end.txt"
T1 converts tier 1 inspirations to Catch a Breath, T2 works on tier 2, T3 on tier 3. END uses the largest available blue inspiration (if you want it to use the smallest first, switch "Catch a Breath" and "Second Wind" on the last line of the bind file). Caveat: these don't work on Awakens and Break Frees; including them made the macros too long (they stop working under such circumstances) and those particular inspirations don't drop very often anyway (and you might want to keep them handy).
  15. Screw that noise. I want a travel power where my pets carry me around everywhere!
  16. I have only one question after reading your post.

    .....Onion Arms???
  17. Coming in the next free update to the game (Issue 17 in April) will be a feature that makes glowies easier to find if they're the last objective in your mission, so don't despair if you have difficulty with these (finding the last glowie is a classic frustration).

Expanding on this: at level 5 go to Kings Row and talk to your assigned Detective there (they'll be added to your list of contacts automatically). He'll give you access to the Police Scanner, which is a renewable source of missions. Complete 3 radio missions and you'll be sent to an instance of Atlas Park for a Safeguard Mission where you can stop a bank robbery. Upon completing the Atlas Safeguard you'll be awarded the Raptor Pack temporary power (lasts for 2 hours). This will not only give you a travel power much earlier, it also allows you to put off the level you take Fly at if you'd rather take another power from your primary or secondary at 14 (the minimum level for Fly is 14 but you can take it any time after that).

Safeguards award a different temporary power for each first time you complete it based on what zone it takes place in. Aside from halting the bank robbery there's a number of side missions you can also do (you can read more about these on the wiki). It's a pretty fun deviation from the standard "go to an office and beat up guys" mission. The villain-side version of these is Mayhem Missions.

Yes, that argument is going to convince all the min/maxers who play this game not to worry about spending an extra $5.

Hmm...I can still get an extra 0.19 endurance reduction if I drop another 200 million on this purple IO...
  20. Can't imagine not having Stamina on my Thugs/Pain. Start with the toggles (Soothing Aura + Leadership + Patron shield), then add in all the healing I have to do on that [redacted] Arsonist.

I also took Stamina on my Bots/Dark. There's a chance I could get by without it if I took extra care in slotting, but I'm not really sure what I would take in its place.

My Necro/Thermal is languishing at level 19 where he will probably remain (I do miss my flamming zumbeez though ), but I know I was hurting for extra endurance during those first 19 levels with all the buffing and healing I was doing.
  21. Are you not aware of the myriad recovery set bonuses? You can actually buff your recovery by quite a bit with set bonuses (not even taking the procs into account), which is functionally equivalent to endurance reduction. Also, please be so kind as to cite your sources for your crazy conspiracy theories.

    Thanks in advance,
    DarkGob

Ah well... turns out the heroes who end up killing them win.
Actually they both have too much regen to kill one another. I don't know if this was still the case, but a while ago if the two had been battling for long enough it would actually be impossible for any team to do enough damage to get the badge upon defeat, since your team had to dish out at least 25% of the total damage inflicted upon the GM (and the other GM would do much more than a team of 8 player characters).

That's funny about the Redcap jumping onto Eochai's back though, I've never seen that happen before.

    Profane Language

I don't think the GMs patrol the arcs looking for any word that looks like a filter evasion. (This would require them to know every single word on the list!) An arc has to be reported for any action to happen at all, and even if someone happens to report this arc for attempting to use a word that has several different meanings besides the supposedly "vulgar" one, the GM would probably let it slide since its context is (presumably) not a violation of the rules.
