Profane Language

So I have a mission I made ages ago and was ok when I published it now complains that it has profane or copyrighted text in it, but gives almost no clue where to find the objectionable words, or what words they are.

Any ideas on how to find out?

Click the error box in the upper right, it should highlight the field where the word occurs.

Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)

The Mission Architect's word filter is pretty unforgiving, unfortunately. Last time I checked I was unable to reference the Cabal (an actual in-game enemy group) by name. I can only assume it's also the name of an obscure DC or Marvel group that ended up on their filter (which also excludes "gambit", among other nouns).

There is no error box. The error only pops up when I try to publish it, and at that point, there's nothing to click.

Okay, it says field "inactivespeech". This would be under any Boss, Escort, or Ally. It's what they say before they see you. I know you have 4 missions so it might take a while to hunt those down, but it's a start.

Found it.

The word 'naked' is profane. Sigh. Thanks though, guys!

Except evading a restriction, no matter how eccentric, is against the EULA. The GMs could easily ban the arc until it's fixed, and/or suspend, even ban, the player who made the arc, depending on the severity and frequency of the offense(s). While it may not make sense to us why these words are banned, the fact of the matter is that they are, whether we understand or not. Trying to "sneak around" them is strictly against the rules.

I don't think the GMs patrol the arcs looking for any word that looks like a filter evasion. (This would require them to know every single word on the list!) An arc has to be reported for any action to happen at all, and even if someone happens to report this arc for attempting to use a word that has several different meanings besides the supposedly "vulgar" one, the GM would probably let it slide since its context is (presumably) not a violation of the rules.

Yeah, that's an annoying error message, since you have to backtrack it through every mission and every possible location. It gets even more annoying if you can't think of even a potential word you used that would be blocked only to realize it was a "fast typing" typo that moved the space one spot to the left in "about it" or something similar.

The program may seem ludicrous, but I'm sure their lawyers thought it a sound move.

And yet it does nothing to prevent blatant trademark and copyright infringement.

Block words that are obviously profane, block trademarked names as NPC names, and stop the insanity.

I'm surprised the AE browser allows you to use Furry in such a negative context.

>_>

<_<

What?!? Someone had to say it!

Also . . .

This game doesn't have an EULA. (semantics I know)

I one time sent a petition in asking why I couldn't name one of my Robot MM's pets Prometheus. I was told it was because it has the word "meth" in it.

This is completely ridiculous. I could understand perhaps the whole keeping alone words out, but saying that combinations of letters can't be included opens up a ridiculous can of worms that preposterously hampers text in your arcs. You aren't allowed to put Damn or Hell in your MA arcs but you're perfectly entitled to post them here and in your characters' names. The most *facepalm* filter I've come across is for the word 'facial'. It's ****ing ridiculous.

And now I find I can't write an arc about a hero who was once a crystal-meth addict. I never intended to, but I want the option to do so.

Bad Voodoo by @Beyond Reach. Arc ID #373659. Level 20-24. Mr. Bocor has fallen victim to a group of hooded vigilantes who have been plaguing Port Oakes, interfering with illegal operations and pacifying villain's powers. He demands that revenge is taken on these miscreants and his powers are returned! You look like just the villain for the job. Challenging.
