So, I need some advice.

So I am beginning to discover how important IOs are. The problem is, I don't have a clue how to go about getting influence.

I got an Elec/SD Scrapper to 50 yesterday, and got him some IOs. He can kinda sorta farm, but it goes quite slow, and I pop inspirations like a madman. Particularly when it comes to his Endurance.

So, I guess what I want to ask is, what's the best character to make that can farm quickly, preferrably with SOs?

You might want to post your build. Elec/Shield should be a pretty darn good farmer.

What are you farming? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression is that most of the time the term "Farming" is speaking to obtaining purples. Or maybe farming tickets...but in that case they usually say, "farming tickets."

The best character for farming quickly using only SOs depends primarily on what exactly it is that you are farming. However, generally speaking, a Fire/Kin/Fire is the "starter" farmer.

This is the build I've been following. I have no clue if it's good or not. I got it off the forums. I have some of the IOs, not all of them. I got the full sets for LR, SC, Stam, Charged Brawl, and Focused Accuracy.

And I've been trying to farm AE missions. Samurai, and things like them. I can kill them, and they have a tough time killing me, but it goes very very slowly. My LR and SC will usually be recharged by the time I've finished taking out the group.

Just some quick suggestions:

I'd kill the Medicine pool; between True Grit, Health, and Physical Perfection (coming to that), you should be fine, especially with how much more quickly you'll be melting spawns by switching the Med pool for...

Hasten. Really, no farming Elec/SD should be without it.

Then I'd use the other power choice from the Med pool on Physical Perfection.

Combat Jumping is severely overslotted; there's really no need for it to have that much Defense, as the base value is really low (1.75, if memory serves).

I'd swap Focused Accuracy for Conserve Power, and slot the Kismet +toHit in CJ.

Doing all that increases your speed and Endurance management, which were your two big concerns. Yep, you lose Aid Self but, if you're farming at speed, you honestly shouldn't have enough time to use it, and if you're already popping Blues, you can just start popping Greens instead; I'd wager that you'll find yourself popping far less of the latter than the former.

That's all I've got for a quick read.

So what should I do with the Gaussian stuff in Focused Accuracy at the moment?

Without your data chunk, I have to rely on a bit of speculation, and also try to apply advice to more general combat than just whatever it is you're farming (I'm not familiar with "Samurai" as an enemy group; might be an AE thing I don't know about).

You could increase your Ranged defense by moving the Fighting pool up in your build, and 6-slotting Weave with Red Fortune (+2.5 to Ranged), or you could get 3.13% more AoE defense by 5-slotting Tough with the Aegis set. You may also have some more slots floating around if you pulled some out of CJ.

Yeah, Samurai is an AE farm...from what I hear, the only one with the requirements to not get hosed by the Devs.

Here's my data chunk. Sorry, new to the whole exporting Mid's builds thing. lol

Cool, I'm at school right now, so don't have Mids, but I'm sure between now and the time I get home, some other folks will come by and help you out (and potentially offer advice that runs counter to mine, which is fine and dandy; that'd help me out with my Elec/SD, too).

EDIT: Oh, one other; I don't do it on my Scrapper, because I always try to make just one build that's capable of AoE/farming/teaming and "big game" hunting, but I know that a lot of AoE-centric Elec/SD folks choose Havoc Punch over Charged Brawl.

Alright. I'll try out the changes you suggested and see if it works out any better.

I guess this is what I get for making my first 50 on both Hero and Villain side crappy farming characters (FS Emp Defender and horribly built MM). :P

Alright I've been fooling around with Mids and this is what I have now.

The Gaussian's set can go in Build Up if you can find the slots for it.

And Honestly I'd sloty Physical Perfection with a little bit of heal enhancement too.

I didn't see anybody else mention this -- why do you have the Knockback Protection IOs slotted? Active Defense provides you all the KB protection and resistance you'll ever need. You can get an extra 2 slots from that. And why the HamiOs in Active Defense? Two generic Recharge IOs would work just as well (better, in fact) and would run a lot cheaper.

I don't know. I just took what the other person put in. :P

I assumed it was because the set bonus was the most desirable option.

3 slotting BotZ's in 2 travel powers gets you an extra 6.26% AoE defense, so there's that. HamiOs in Active Defense increase both the recharge speed and the Defense Debuff Resistance of that power; but you might want to hold off on that on a new build. Word is that's going to get "fixed" soon(tm).

I agree with Claws, you could probably swap out one or two of the End Mod pieces in PP for a Health IO or two.

The Gaussain set's primary benefit is 6-slotting it to get the +2.5 Def to all; if you don't go that route, all the other pieces kind of fall apart (yeah, there are some other bonuses in there, but I think it's a net loss). Again, if it were me--and it ain't, so feel free to disregard--I'd just leave Build Up with two Rech IOs (no real need for the +toHit to be enhanced in there), and use at least one of the free slots for the Kismet +toHit; that's a really key IO. ToHit works differently than Accuracy, so while an extra 6% doesn't look like much, it's actually fairly substantial.

Another fun IO piece for this build is the Force Feedback +Recharge proc; Thunderstrike is a great place for this, even though I hate hate hate the tiny (7 whole feet) radius of Thunderstrike. If you're running at /x6 or higher, you should be able to get that thing to fire off at least every other spawn, and it's a pretty big boost; anything that lets you get Lightning Rod and Shield Charge up faster is a Good Thing.

Just some minor tweaks, which again, you can absolutely feel free to reject; except for those few small things, it looks pretty similar to what I've got in Mids.

It also looks to be kind of a pricey build; all those LotG 7.5s, particularly, push this build into "wow, this is expensive" territory. But if you're flush with Inf/Merits/Tickets, you're golden.

Trying to softcap defense, from the looks of it. To be honest, I've looked at the build and can't think of where else I would put those extra 2 slots, but it still feels like an enormous waste to me, especially since you're fine without those set bonuses. And the HamiOs...I can't even imagine why those are there.

I'm about as poor as poor comes. Any tips to lessen the cost while still being an efficient farmer? ;o

Oh, that changes things considerably. The unique pieces (Miracle and Numina) and the LotGs alone push this build up over the half billion Inf mark. My personal method for generating Inf is really weird*, so you definitely want to listen to someone else, there. I don't do market PvP, simply because just selling things at Wentworths tends to log me out about 4/5 of the time I try it. There's some great info on "getting rich quick" over in the market forum.

*I'll include it for giggles; once I get to a decent level of survivability/speed on a character, I'll start doing Oro flashback arcs for merits. It's time consuming as all get out, but you earn experience, Inf, drops, and merits, so it's not a total waste of time.

While endurance is nice, and physical perfection is great, blaze mastery is more helpful for farming, because you want kill speed - namely FIREBALL.

Capping AoE defense typically is not necessay either, since so few attacks are AoE in game. This is a high-end elec-shield, but perhaps you can modify it to suit your tastes.

Remember, soloing, inspirations drop like candy. They will help your endurance issues.

One last thing: Get your 4 accolades for +HP and +End. Once you get those, things will be noticeably easier.

*blank look on face* Which Accolades are those again?

To this 4/4 beat, I'm in time with you. To this 4/4 beat, I would die for you. Your lovesick melody is going to get the best of me tonight, but you won't get to me 'cause I won't sing.

Those links will let you know how to get them.

As for an affordable build, there are some routes to go:

6-slotted red-fortune over 4-slotted LOTG will give you a 2.5% range def bonus and 5% rech bonus. It's not as nice, but it's a LOT cheaper and gets you on the way toward your range defense.

I remember Touch of Death being fairly cheap on the market last I was on. It's been a while since I checked. Placing that in your single target attacks will help.

Grab the steadfast 3% def IO and slot it somewhere.

Those are the cheapest for the positionals. Skipping the zephyr KB protection will also help. You can fill in your AoE defense by 5-slotting Scirrocco in Lightning Rod and Shield Charge and using the 6th slot as a generic recharge IO.

I took the build you posted an tweaked it a bit, Tonality. Mainly to make it less expensive, and to utilize IOs I already have (Such as Crushing Impact).

So, I guess what I want to ask is, what's the best character to make that can farm quickly, preferrably with SOs?
IOs are important? And here I thought they were optional.

The build you posted will cost you, at least, One Billion Influence (barring drops/AE tickets/Merit rolls).

Each LotG 7.5 Recharge IO will run you about 150M Inf, minimum.

The Numina's, Miracle, and Regenerative Tissue Uniques will run about 300M Inf combined.

This is not to dissuade you from your planned final build in any way, it's just to alert you that in no way, shape, or form is that anything less than an expensive build. It's for reasons like these that I use "finished my build" as the new "made it to 50".
